Keep losing mapped drives

Hey everyone...
Few weeks ago I got a shiny new 21" iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo, upgraded to 8 gigs RAM) and have been running into intermittent connectivity issues that are driving me crazy....
After much searching around, I found a "how to" helping me with an Automater script to mount and map some drives that are on another server here on my home network upon starting up.... Among other things storage-related, all my iTunes stuff is on this other server and I have my library set to use this mapped folder
On a pretty consistent basis, the iMac forgets these mapped drives in Finder...
This is causing issues when even trying to open iTunes as the assigned location cannot be found... or i'd be playing some music or podcast and BAM, iTunes coughs up a hairball because the computer lost/forgot the mounted drive locations.....
Any tips on what I can run/look-into? This happens both wired (DHCP addressed) to the network or connected by WiFi (Netgear N-router)... though it happens much more frequently when connected via wire.....
Only other helpful piece of information I could provide is that I did download and buy "Little Snitch", not sure if that could cause any issues or what not.....
Thanks in advance
- Stephen

What will that do?
UPDATE: Even more confused now. Now, the iMac sees my PC desktop and some other device (the name is a seemingly random string of numbers???) which shows nothing if I select it. However, the network drive does not show up under devices. BUT, even more weird is that in iTunes, the network drive does show up in Shared (I think). And even more weird than that, my AppleTV shows up now even when it's turned off. Used to be it only showed when it was powered on.
Needless to say, I am struggling to understand what appears to be random connection of devices on the LAN.

  • Losing Mapped Drives

I recently purchased and setup my linksys WRT54GR router. I am having a problem with the mapped drives on my computer dropping their link and not being able to be reconnected.
The primary part of the network consists of a server running Windows 2003 SBS and a computer running Windows XP Pro SP2. Both computers are connected to the router via ethernet cables.
The server network card is set with an IP address of 192.168.1.2 with the Linksys router having an IP address of 192.168.1.1. The Linksys IP address is defined as the gateway for the server. The cable modem is connected to the router.
When I first start up the XP computer everything is fine. After some period of time, my mapped drives become inaccessible. The internet still works from my XP computer but if I try to access any of the mapped drives (which are pointing to the server) I can not open them. My computer can no longer "see" the server.
If I logoff and login again I can use the mapped drives again without problem. The dropping seems to happen after 10 to 12 hours of the computer being on and logged in. I never had this problem with my old router so suspect it is a setting, but I have no idea where to look
    Please help!!!!
    Caren

It's not tied to the lease time, but thanks for the idea.
I think my system is setup with my Windows 2003 server acting as the DHCP server, and that may be the problem since my old router used different IP addresses. I made a few changes to my setup, based on some articles I found and I am waiting to see if that helps.

  • KT4V keeps losing lan driver after shutdown

    Hi All
Was wondering if anyone came across this problem... just bought a kt4v when i upgraded my wifes pc the lan controller says it is via vt6103 lan controller but there are no drivers on supplied cd also when the pc is shutdown it loses the network adapter drivers so everytime it boots up from being shutdown i am having to install the drivers again. If anyone has had similar problem please let me know.
    Thanks in Advance
    John

Definitely go with the driver Bas suggested.  Since you  didn't really say where you got your original driver from (I am willing to bet anything the driver is on the CD but hidden really well), I would warn against using drivers that Via might supply.  In my experience, I've come across problems using those drivers for such devices (modems have been the worst for me   ).  I like to stick with the drivers provided by whoever makes the motherboard, add-in card, etc.  Though, I will say that Via 4in1's and nVidia Detonators have been pretty good, usually because video card and motherboard manufacturers, like MSI, don't make unique drivers necessary to the best of my knowledge (they just post the same ones about a month later   ).  Anyways, I have that board, and I haven't had a problem with it.

  • Citrix mapped drives and crystals merged files

Has anybody come across an issue with Citrix mapped drives and crystals merged files.
I have updated the crystal DLL's my application uses to 11.5 and created a new setup kit to distribute my app including these new DLLu2019s along with a merged file call crstalreports11_5_net_2005.msm the Visual Studio setup app added. The installation runs fine on the Citrix server and application runs as well.  When I come to run any report on the Citrix server I get an error u201Cprocedure call or argument is not validu201D.  If I remove the mapping to the drives the reports run without any errors.
I need to keep the mapped drives on Citrix so removing the mappings is not really a solution to my problem (which is a shame really)
I am using Visual Studio 2005, Crystal Report XI and Citrix 4.5
Any help would be gratefully received

See if Process Monitor will help you trace down to where this is happening. Process Monitor can be downloaded from here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
Make sure you filter for your process name as Proc Mon creates rather large log files. Once you have a log, search for errors such as Access Denied, etc.

  • I have a late 2012 iMac running osx 10.8.5.  I keep losing access to my internal hard drive.  I can reboot and regain access and it will last for a few minutes or hours.  Disk utility does not seems to help.

I have a late 2012 iMac with an I5 precessor running OSX 10.8.5 and a 1tb internal hard drive.  I keep losing access to the internal hard drive/startup disk.
I can reboot and everything operates as normal for a few minutes or hours but then I lose all access again to anything on the hard drive.  The computer is still up and running but no files can be accessed and certain websites cannot be acessed even though internet access appears to be normal.  Disk utility can only find permission errors related to iTunes which can be repaired only to come back at the next scan (I would not think permission errors would have anything to do with the hard drive crashing).  It does not seem to matter what program I am using at the time access is lost and it can lose access sometimes right after reboot when no program is running.

You will need to boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during restart and select it) to run Disk Utility/Disk Repair.

  • External drive conntected to Time Capsule keeps losing connection

I've been having this problem since I bought my TC over one year ago. Other than this everything works fine (aside from the occasional need for a restart).
I have an external 500GB drive attached to my 500GB TC via usb. I use the TC strictly for backups and the other drive to host my media files. When I want to use those files I switch on the drive. Only about half of the time does that work. When it does work everything is fine. I see the drive in the finder as expected.
When it doesn't work, I can see the drive name in the finder. But if I click to go into the folder, I get an error saying that the connection cannot be found.
It shows up in the Airport Utility as normal.
Powering the drive off and on does not help.
Relaunching the finder doesn't help either.
The only way I can connect to the drive again is to either logoff and log back into my mac, or restart the TC.
It seems that my computer is remembering some kind of network disk mounting settings that don't get refreshed when I turn on the drive, but then do get refreshed when I logoff and back in. Does anyone know how I could force that refresh to happen? Has anyone had this problem before?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated
PS all my software and firmware are the latest.
    Thanks.

  • LaCie external hard drive keeps losing connection to Windows 8.1 computer

    Hello all,
My LaCie external hard drive (Rugged version) seems like it keeps losing connection to my brand new Windows 8.1 laptop. The laptop is an HP Pavillion 15-p 133cl TouchSmart Notebook which I just got today. Basically, every few minutes, or if I nudge the external
a bit, the computer will seem like it disconnected and reconnected to the external hard drive in a split second and bring it up in the Windows Explorer. This external hard drive doesn't show any problems connecting to any other computer, but it has occurred
with 2/3 ports on this computer so far. I'm a bit worried, because I definitely DO NOT want the files on this external to get corrupted in any way. What should I do? Thanks a bunch.

may I know your external HDD model, to check which USB version to isolate power and cable connection issue
if this is USB 3.0 try to attached at USB 3.0 at your laptop, your laptop has 2 USB 3.0 and 1 for 2.0, for external HDD with USB 2.0 sometimes need more power / more than 1 connection, sometimes the power will loose
but since the trigger it will disconnect if you nudge the HDD, I suggest back up data to your laptop first, try to change with other data or power cable, try also update your laptop chipset
try to check with other device to isolate port issue
may I know if you are using other PC, did your external HDD also will disconnect if you nudge it?
contact your external HDD manufactured to get some suggestion

  • Keep losing DWC130 external USB drive

I keep losing the connection to the DWC130 External USB drive on Windows 8.1. If I leave a Windows Explorer window open, after 10 minutes or so when I go to the external Toshiba drive its like it has lost its connection. The drive dissappears from the list of connected drives, and after a few seconds a new window opens with a refreshed connection to the drive. Why do I keep losing this live connection to the drive? How can I stablize this?

I read something about some of these external drives needing more power, even when plugged into the USB 3 port. The article suggested a "Y" connector to allow the one drive to plug into two USB 3 ports simultaneously. I guess that's possible, but before doing so I'm going to call my local computer center today where I purchased the hard drive to see if they know of this problem and how to resolve it.
Actually, that is NOT possible. The DWC130 external drive has a power adaptor and plugs into an outlet for its power source. So, something else is at play here.

  • Media shares auto mapping drive in Windows 8.1 Pro

What setting in Windows 8.1 is causing the automatic mapping of several shared folders named media?
I work in a university environment with staff, faculty, and students using wired and wireless networks.  I have a user with a Surface Pro 3 that has started to automatically map, what seems like random addresses on the wireless network, to file shares
named media.  When I setup these computers for the users I always have the media sharing turned off and I've never had cause to use it myself so I'm only a little familiar with what the settings do.  I've tried to change my own settings to reproduce
the problem but I can't seem to find the correct setting so that I can reverse it.  Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,

    Hi Pete de Pistola,
If your machine keeps reconnecting to a map drive, from driver path you should be able to track down which machine is shearing folder. Also since it is a Wifi network we wonder if users could use their own device which is not configured by administrator.
As I know to prevent file sharing, group policy might be the only option.
Enable or disable File Sharing with Group Policy

  • Report on remote users mapped drives

After a very thorough search, I can't find anyone else who has had this question answered.
I have a need to on-the-fly report on the mapped drives and their letters of users on remote computers. Running "Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_MappedLogicalDisk | select Name, ProviderName" only returns my drives under my credentials, not the remote user. Looking
at HKU:\sid\network apparently only reports persisent mapped drives or drives mapped by the customer and not drives mapped by logon script that are not persistent.
There doesn't seem to be a way to do this on-the-fly which is dissapointing, so I'm hoping you'll have a trick up your sleeve!
The only way I can figure to get the information, but not on the fly, is to have a logon script run as the user and grab the info and save it somewhere. I'm really hoping not to resort to that. All of that becomes historical info and won't reflect changes
that happen after logon, so it's not going to always be a true reflection of reality.
The key seems to be running a wmi query as someone else that you don't have credentials for. Is that possible? Or do you have another suggestion?
    Ian

I believe this post may already be closed.  I, however, would like to add my findings:  When I run this against different pc's with different users logged on:  Get-WmiObject
    -Class Win32_MappedLogicalDisk -ComputerName <remote computer> | select Name, ProviderName
(Keep in mind that I'm a local admin on my pc as well as the destination pc's
    as well.)
    1. The logged on user is non-admin on their pc.
    Mapped drives are not retrieved
    2. The logged on user is admin on their pc.
    Mapped drives are retrieved
    3. I'm logged on to the remote pc (local admin)
    Mapped drives are retrieved
Conclusion:  As long as the target pc logged on user is local admin on that pc then the
mapped network drives will be pulled by the previously mentioned command.  Otherwise, it will come back empty.
A question posted previously was:  "I'm
curious why you need to know mapped drives??" In my case, I am trying to back up mapped network drives for all domain users.  However, logon or logoff scripts are not
    an option.
The real question should be: Why is the previously mentioned command not pulling the mapped network drives when the logged on user is not a local admin on the target pc?
I believe the answer is that the drives are not mapped to the remote computer per se, but to the user's process on the remote computer. And while an admin on that computer has significant power over the hardware and operating system, it cannot take control
of the process, which is locked by the user's credentials.
Consider remote control. My regular account is logged onto another computer. I run mstsc to establish a remote control session on that remote system under the same credentials. The effect is to disconnect the other remote session and lock the system on its
console, and for the new session to inherit the original process, seeing the same desktop with the same apps open.
I then run mstsc to establish another remote control session, this time using an account that is an administrator on that system. It tells me my regular account is already logged on, and gives me two options, abort my new session, or log the user out. using
my admin credentials, I cannot take over the user's session and see what applications he has open or what drives he may have mapped.

  • AA3 keeps losing Audio Hardware Setup settings...

I work in a broadcast center with a number of AA3 machines that keep losing their Audio Hardware Setup settings. It keeps switching from the LynxONE drivers to Audition 3.0 Windows Sound. I can find no documentation on this.
I've found that the trigger is when AA3 has "release ASIO driver in background" NOT checked, and the user minimizes it and plays something from another audio program. Then they have to go in and set it back again before AA3 will pass audio again.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks.

In the Options menu. Device Properties. Then you have tabs for Wave In and Wave Out amongst others. Also you may need to also set Device Order from the same Options menu.

  • Satelite C660 keeps losing its wireless connection

    Hi
We have bought the above laptop for our son for christmas and it keeps losing its wireless connection, we also have a Satelite L450 which is running fine (not losing internet connection) we have been onto our broadband supplier they have told us that as the wireless connection on our other laptop is fine, it is something to do with the C660, one of the drivers needs an update, unfortuneately I have forgotten the driver name but it is something to do with the modem, Our son is desperate to use his laptop.
    Can anyone help?

Had the same problem but with a different Satellite model - the signal was fine on another laptop in the room - the problem was the power management option / power plan - the link below says it all but in short if it is on balanced the default option the default means that it tells the router to go into a power save mode that it might not support.

Have a read, hope it helps as it worked for me and is a very simple solution!

  • Reports server Cannot read files from mapped drive

    Hi,
Am trying to run a report from a network mapped drive under WinNT 4.0 through report server.
I get "REP-0110 Error opening or reading file" error message. After looking up the help on error, I find:
    1. The file being accessed does exist
    2. The login account has full privileges
    with the file/directory/drive in question.
If the report to be run is on a local drive,
    everything is fine.
    Can anyone help me asap.

    hello,
there are multiple things to keep in mind :
    1) if you are using a mapped drive :
mapped drives are on a per-user-basis. the reports-server-service is running as a system-service by default and will not have the same mapped drives as the logged on user. in fact it fill have NO drives mapped.
what you could do is to use the UNC-path like \\servername\share\filename to adress the file
    2) problems with UNC
there are some known problems using UNC to access files on remote machines in some versions of reports. pls check with oracle support services in case this causes problems.

  • Windows 7 network issues accessing shared/mapped drives.

I have three Thinkpads running on my home wireless network.  Two are running XP.  One - a new W520 is on Windows 7-64.  I have no issues with the XP machines.  The Win7 machine is having problems with the wireless network connection.  It's not that I lose the network - the status is connected with a good signal.  The problem is when retrieving or saving files from my server (running XP with shared/mapped drives) I get errors reading and writing files.  Just opening the shared drive in My Computer on occasion displays nothing, as if it knows the drive is there, but can't read it.  Sometimes it displays the folders but then will take an extremely long time if I try to open a folder.  Another issue is if I try to print, the job rarely completely sends to the printer.  If I plug in directly to the printer via USB, the file prints.
This has to be an issue with Windows 7 and something in the wireless setup, doesn't it?
I've searched for solutions all over the network.  It seems this is a common Win7 problem with no well defined solution.  I've had the issue since the very first day, but today, I'm just about ready to backrev to XP after losing 2 hours of work on a Photoshop file!
To date (over the last month) this is what I've done:
    Disabled the IP6 stack.
Turned off power management to shutdown the wireless card.
Updated to the latest Intel drivers for the Ultimate-N 6300 AGN adapter (direct from Intel.)
Today, I ran this, netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled but still have the network drive issue plus am having issues browsing web pages.  It's getting worse instead of better.
Anyone familiar with this issue on a Thinkpad with known solutions or recommendations?
    Thank you!
