Keep Mac Mail from Deleting Emails On Server

I have 2 Yahoo! acc'ts linked to Mac Mail.
On the first acc't, after all my emails downloaded, I then deleted all the emails in Mac Mail (didn't need them). When I logged back into my acc't in Yahoo! (on browser), I saw that, there too, all my emails had been deleted.
I need to keep this from happening in my 2nd acc't. How can I delete the emails within Mac Mail, WITHOUT deleting the emails from the server?
I'm using Mac Yosemite 10.10.1.

Hi
You will have to look at a POP3 account that leaves the mail on the server.
I have not seen a setting in active sync that stop mail from being deleted. If you make a change on your phone it will update the mailbox.
Mails will be in the deleted items. How are users "accidently" deleting mail when you actually have to press the delete/trash button?

When I delete mail from my iphone when using apple mail, the e-mail deletes on my phone but remains on my computer.  When my co-worker deletes mail from her iphone it is getting deleted from her work computer (and the server).  I have compared settings on our phone and everything appears the same.  How do we stop mail from deleting from the server when she deletes mail from her phone?
    Thanks!

    POP or IMAP?
With POP, this is the conventional way to use it. You download messages and doing so deletes them. Alternatively you can arrange to leave copies on the server for other email clients to be able to see them. The setting to do this can be found under '''Tools|Account Settings|{select account}|Server Settings'''.
With IMAP, you're supposed to store messages on the server. If you want to remove them from the server, move them to the Local Folders account in Thunderbird.

Then you are both talking rubbish. IMAP is designed for multiple client access to the same inbox, and requires either POP3 collection, or explicit deletion from the server, to remove an email.
IMAP deletion should NEVER delete from the server, if you choose not to do so. I have a netbook and a desktop PC using the same inbox. The Netbook uses IMAP, the desktop PC uses POP3. I can delete a message from the Netbook, and it leaves the email on the server, for the desktop PC to collect via POP3.
From Wikipedia "E-mail clients using IMAP generally leave messages on the server until the user explicitly deletes them."
The way the iPad is handling it, is wrong... but then again, this is Apple we're talking about. They will no doubt patent this incorrect behaviour, and market it as a "new invention".

I have my iPod set to delete on iPod only. Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendar> my POP account or IMAP> Out going Mail Server, Advanced> Mailbox Behaviors, Deleted Mailbox> and I have selected the setting: On My iPod.
I've been trying to find a way to change this behaiveour with out any luck. I have some friends with the same problem.

A POP account does not syncronize the account among messages.
Could it be that your are deleting the messages from the server when you get the mail on your iPo
in Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendar> my POP account or IMAP> Out going Mail Server, Advanced> Mailbox Behaviors, Deleted Mailbox> set it to nerver remove messages from the server.

  • How do I stop ActiveSync from deleting emails on server

    Hi,
We came across a problem where users are deleting emails from their activesync devices accidentally. We need to stop it besides providing them activesync facility.

    Server --> Device Sync Enable

    Hi Pierrot10,
Insert your backup disc (or plug your external hd), then open Mail.
In the File menu, click *Import Mailboxes* and follow the steps for a *Mail for Mac OS X* transfer.
Navigate to your CD/DVD's or external HD's backup and hit "OK".
This should create a new "Imported" folder in Mail with all your old messages in it, that you can then rearrange as you wish, creating new mailboxes etc.

  • Trying for months: Issues accessing .Mac mail from desktop Mail app

    I have a few Macs (eMac, iMac G5, 2-iMac G3s...). User since 85.
I signed up for .Mac family pack. Gave email accounts to my family members. .Mac mail can only be retrieved from ONE (iMac G3) of the Macs. The others register that there are X number of .Mac emails in the inbox, but when one clicks on the box, the pane that should display the list of emails is blank. Every few minutes, the chime shows the same X number of emails has arrived in the inbox, starting the cycle all over again.
I have check, double and triple checked the Mail configuration for each of these Macs and see no difference. In fact, when you login to .Mac it appears to configure the Mail account automatically.
The router settings for these Macs (like port forwarding, etc.) is identical, too.
    Thanks for your help

    From Mail Help:
    "Setting up your email accounts
The first time you open Mail, it automatically sets up email accounts for you using the information from the .Mac pane of System Preferences and the Mail Setup Assistant. If no information is found, Mail guides you through the process of setting up a new account. You can create additional accounts at any time.
If you switch to Mail from another email application, you need to enter the account information from the other application in Mail. Before you begin, view the information in the other application, and write down the names of the incoming and outgoing mail servers, your account name and password, and whether it is a POP or IMAP account. If you have multiple accounts, get the information for each account.
    To add an account:
    Choose File > Add Account.
Choose your account type, such as POP or IMAP, from the Account Type pop-up menu and enter the information, based on your account type. If you aren't sure about some of the fields, check with your Internet service provider (ISP) or mail account provider.
General information: Enter a description of the account. The description is shown in the mailbox list. If you have multiple accounts, enter something that will help you distinguish this account from others, such as "Tom's work email." You must also specify the full name to be displayed in outgoing mail, such as Tom Clark, and the email address to use in the From field when you send messages. For a .Mac account, you must enter your .Mac user name and password.
Incoming Mail Server: Enter the server (typically a POP or IMAP server) where your email waits for you to retrieve it. For example, mail.example.com. Enter your user name and password for this mail server. If you specified an Exchange account, you must specify the Outlook Web Access Server.
Outgoing Mail Server: Enter the server (also known as an SMTP server) that sends your email to its destination. For example, smtp.example.com or relay.example.com. To see the server in use by each mail account, choose Edit Server List from the Outgoing Mail Server pop-up menu.
Further define the new account you have just created. Choose Mail > Preferences, click Accounts, and select the new account in the list.
In the Mailbox Behaviors pane, select options for storing and deleting drafts, sent mail, junk mail, and trash. The options are different for the different kinds of accounts.
In the Advanced pane, select options to enable the account, include the account when checking for new mail, to manage offline viewing, and other options.
A .Mac account is an IMAP account provided as part of Apple's .Mac services. To sign up for a .Mac account, open the .Mac pane of System Preferences and click Sign Up. You can also use a web browser to send and receive email with a .Mac account.
An Exchange account allows you to connect to your Exchange server via IMAP, and if you enter text in the Outlook Web Access Server field, Mail filters non-email related content from the server. (You can get the text you need to enter from your mail account provider.) For Exchange to work with Mail, Exchange administrators need to configure the Exchange server for IMAP access. Some system administrators may refer to an Outlook Web Access Server as an Internet Information Services (IIS) server.
For IMAP accounts, when you first connect to your mail server, all your mailboxes are automatically synchronized, so that the email messages on your computer are the same as those on the server.
To remove an account, select it in the account list and click the Delete button.

    OR:
"About synchronizing email accounts and settings
There are two ways you can synchronize your email accounts and settings:
If you are using an IMAP account, all your messages remain on the server, so you can access them from multiple computers. Mail periodically synchronizes your IMAP mailboxes with those on the server, ensuring that mailboxes on your computer reflect actions taken while viewing mail on the server, such as marking messages as read, deleting messages, or moving messages between mailboxes. If "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing" (in the Advanced pane of the Accounts pane in Mail Preferences) is set to one of the options that stores copies of messages, Mail also downloads messages (and attachments, if that option is selected) from the server to your computer. Before using an IMAP account offline, synchronize the account so you know you're working offline with up-to-date messages.
If you have a .Mac account, you can use .Mac Sync to synchronize your account settings and your rules, signatures, and Smart Mailboxes across all of your Mac OS X x10.4 computers. To become a .Mac member, open System Preferences, click .Mac, and click the Learn More button. For more information about .Mac, visit the .Mac website at www.apple.com/dotmac/.

  • I can't find older emails in my Yahoo account or iPhone app BUT I am able to see them on my Mac Mail version of email. sent emails are OK.

... for the past few months i have noticed that emails in my inbox Yahoo mail account older than a few weeks keep disappearing. i cannot find them in my Yahoo account or iPhone app BUT i can see them on my Mac Mail version of email. Emails that i have stored into folders in my yahoo account are still there... same with my sent emails... it's just the Inbox emails.. strange, very strange. I don't know how to 'move' the emails from my Mac Mail  back to my Yahoo account.

Please read and begin using Can receive email, but not send email. I had a similar issue with Comcast mail (could receive by not send) and found my answer in this letter. For me it took resetting the outgoing mail and telling the system to use a password when sending outgoing mail. If you need help with that please advise and I'll tell you where to look.

  • Suddenly can not access .mac mail from Apple Mail

Suddenly, I can not access .mac mail from Apple Mail (Version 2.1.1 (752.3)).
For quite a few years I have been using Apple Mail to access my .mac email. As of last Friday, Mail stopped working. Nothing has changed (accept for the installation of the latest OS X security upgrade - SecUpd2006-008Univ.pkg).
I can still access my .mac mail through the .mac web browser and I can still access it through SnapperMail on my Palm Treo 680. But, when I open Apple Mail on my MacBook, it does not do anything, just sits there. When I open the Activity Viewer window, 3 activities are going on:
    1. Opening Mailbox
    2. Synchronizing with Server (Connecting to...)
    3. Synchronizing with Server (Synchronizing with...)
After a few minutes, the error triangle appears next to the Inbox and .Mac logos on the left hand panel.
I have tried Apple Mail from several locations (different ISP / WiFi / LAN) over several days but get the same problem.
Does anyone have ideas for a solution?
    Regards
    Peter

Let’s first make sure that the update is installed properly, and post back with your observations when done.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the update that appears to not have been installed properly. You may also need to reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with your computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for PPC
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for Intel
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Problem with Mac Mail not Deleteing Mail

Mac Mail no longer deletes a message from the host server once it is downloaded even though the option to delete once the mail is downloaded is ticked in the account prefernce area.
Has anyone else come across this problem and have a solution?

Have changed the account preference in Mac mail to "delete message once it is removed from inbox" this deletes the message on the ISP's server.

I want to install XP Pro SP2 on a Mac Mini from a 2003 RIS server. Is this possiIble? How is it done?
The mac has 10.5 which has bootcamp to enable Windows install. I have created a partition but the bootcamp utility asks for a CD. I want to install a RIS build. How do I stop Mac Mail from sending an unauthorized "Out off Office" reply to several, not all, of my associates emails?  Only happens with me.com mailbox, not Earthlink.  Am not getting some important e-mail from brokerage and business associates.

If Earthlink is unaffected it is probably a settimg in me.com.  Log into me.com account in a browser such as Safari (will get icloud.com) and select the settings (gear) icon bottom left, and then click on the airplane icon. Make sure vacation setting is unchecked.

I would like to respond to some of my .Mac eMail from my iMac's Mail program. My ISP is sbc dsl and when I send an eMail from my .Mac mailbox, it shows my sbc email address as sender. I find it time consuming to have to sign on to .Mac to respond to an eMail. Is there any way that I can send my .Mac mail from my Mail program without losing the ability to send from my sbc address?

You can have both mail accounts online at the same time, and when you actually send an email, you only need to select the account from the new mail window.
When you select Menu Mailbox, Online Mail status, are both accounts ONline? Or, alternatively, when you open the Inbox through the little triangle in front of the inbox, the online accounts will appear in black, if off line it will be gray.
