Keep macbook on when cover is closed

hey there, i was just wondering if there is anyway for the computer to stay on when i close the macbook? thnx

Supposedly it will run closed if you have an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Face time will not ring on the iPad when the cover is closed.
There is no notification of a missed call.
Face time works normally when the cover is open.

The reed switch is the likely culprit. It's in the right side of the display bezel, and is activated by a magnet in the right lower edge of the iBook. Unless you are rolling in dough, it's likely not to be worth the cost of repair. Probably money would be better spent toward a new MacBook if you can't tolerate the situation as it now exists.
Sometimes the reed switch sticks in the off position. At least, you can consider yourself lucky that the one in your iBook has stuck in the on position, so it's on all the time instead of off.
You can set the Energy Saver preferences to have it sleep quickly or simply remember to put it to sleep manually before closing the iBook if you decide to live with it, as-is.

  • IBook won't sleep when cover is closed

When I close the cover it will not sleep. Only after a time it will sleep per settings in the energy saver. When I open the cover, it will not automatically awaken. Have to hit apple key a few times to awaken? Not the end of the world but would like to know why.

  • Computer shuts off when cover is closed

My MacBook will not come back up after closing the cover.   I must turn computer off ( manually) and back on to get it to come on.

We have three ports and I think another one too but I haven't tried it because my cable works on the other ones so why would hers work on the other port but not the one mine works on? if you know what i mean...and yes i used my cable for my mom's iPod and it works so I know it's just the cable, so what should I do like should I call to get a new one or something because think if I didn't have my cable, my mom wouldn't be able to do anything on her iPod yet! thanks for the help guys:)

  • Nice Small App To Keep MacBook Pro Running With Lid Closed

Found a nice little app, NoSleep that keeps the MacBook Pro running even when the lid is shut, so I use it alone with Caffeine and MacLock. I had found that my system was crashing on a continuing basis and with No Sleep it hasn't.

Take a look at this link, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1776

Is there any way for me to stay connected to the internet while closing the display all the way in order to prevent any damage to the screen? Everytime that I close the display, the computer kicks me off the internet. Is it unhealthy to stay connected?

  • Preventing MacBook Pro from sleepting when the cover is closed

I'd like to prevent the system from sleeping when the cover is closed, at least when it is on the power supply.
Right now, it sleeps whenever the cover is closed. As a result, my nightly backup (ordinarily scheduled for the wee hours) doesn't run.
Also, I want to use the laptop at home with an external screen, keyboard and mouse, and it would be convenient to fold it up to get it out of the way when doing so.
    Thanks,
    -W.

' Overheating in clamshell mode is rearely an issue if you're running on the 9400M and the system- / resource-demands aren't particularly hectic. It is something one should always just keep an eye on though anyways - just to be safe, no?
' Otherwise - there is a pay-for (shareware) program you can download and install that will give you the facility you're looking for... I'm afraid I can't remember it's name right now though... Alternatively - and the solution I myself use - try downloading and using a mini-app called "InsomniaX" - for which I can't provide a link I'm afraid, but a Net-search will quickly turn up! It's freeware (donations possible but not required) and works great - a number of options available to tune it somewhat to your needs!
    ' This should help ya!

  • Can I use Front Row on external monitor with MacBook Pro's cover closed?

I've seen that you can use the remote to control Front Row even when the lapatop's cover is closed (on a MacBook Air). Is it possible with a first generation MB Pro? Are there special settings?
    Thx

You can use a MacBook Pro in "clamshell" mode if you have the AC adapter plugged in for power, an external display attached and an external keyboard and mouse (USB or Bluetooth) to wake the computer after it's been closed. This is the official word from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
However, even if you don't have a keyboard and mouse, you should still be able to wake the MacBook Pro using the Apple remote by pressing the "menu" button. (You do still need to have the power plugged in and the display plugged in.)

I just recently reinstalled everything new to a new ssd drive but the same problem keeps recurring.

You do realise that wiping the disk means that everything on the disk is erased. Everything. Photos, music, emails, ...
So the first piece of advice is to make sure you have a back up of everything.
You need the OS disk to reintsall the operating system. You will use that disk first to erase the drive, then to reinstall the OS.
Here's the link for the US.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
As for MS Office, you will need the original disk that it came on to reinstall it.

  • Audio jack not working when cover closed and hdmi connected

    Pavillion Sleekbook 14 (14-b017cl)
    Windows 8
I have an external monitor connected via the hdmi port.  My external monitor does not have built in speakers.  I connect an external speaker via the headphone jack.  I can play audio fine if the notebook cover is open.  As soon as I close the notebook cover, the audio stops.  How can I get the audio to still be sent to my external speakers with the cover closed?
I have my power settings set to "Do Nothing" when lid is closed.  I don't know what else to try?
    Thanks for your help.

What is the status of the TV when the lid is closed? Does the image remain as it should?
Try installing this audio driver as it was released after the launch of Windows 8.
What program is playing the audio? For example, a music player or movie program? Is there no audio in any program when this happens?

  • Can iPad Air sleep when cover closed be disabled?

An advertised feature of the function of the iPad Air is to automatically enter sleep when the Smart Cover is closed. My wife tends to start listening to a YouTube movie in bed and then closes the cover of her original iPad so that the display goes out and continues to listen to the audio. I'm considering getting her a new iPad Air, but wonder if the auto-sleep feature will interfere with how she is used to doing things. Can the auto-sleep feature be disabled? Can it be made to only affect the display and still allow audio streaming to continue? Apologies if I am just behind the times -- we currently have no iOS7-capable devices.

The Auto Lock can be turned off, but it will not put the screen to sleep. You can cover the iPad and the video will continue to play, but the screen will not turn black and go into sleep mode. You will simply be covering the screen.
When you put the iPad to sleep, YouTube Videos will quit playing. You can no longer play YouTube Videos in the background in iOS 7.
