Keep needing to reboot ADSL Router to open VPN Connection

I keep needing reboot our ADSL router (Netgear DG834N) in order to open a VPN connection to our server.
I'm pretty sure this has come about since upgrading to 10.5.2
Any ideas what the problem might be?

You don't say if it is PPTP or L2TP.
Depending on model and firmware DG834x has IPSec VPN server capability built-in. Can complicate thing for L2TP "passthrough" (forwarding). Sometimes routers/firewalls without VPN server built-in is
more suitable for L2TP forwarding.
Could be L2TP having problems with UPD port 500 get "stuck" in the modem/router if that is what you use. Otherwise see if there is a firmware revison/update that fix VPN passthrough issuses.
Also getting GRE prtocol through for PPTP forwarding can be tricky. A "VPN-pasthrough" setting, if available, could somtimes fix this.

  • Slow MacBook and keep needing to reboot Safari

    I have a Macbook, basic 13'', about two years now. It's charming and efficient, but I must say it's lost its original swiftness. My Safari is also not in top shape- it sometimes quits while I'm in the middle of working, or the cursor would show me the never-changing loading icon. I'm an avid customer on the iTunes store, which is probably why these issues arise. I also haven't been installing the weekly updates for a while now, neither have I downloaded a newer version of Safari. Or is it possible that there're more than just memory issues?
    Can anyone me some tips? I tried to back up files onto CD-Rs and it sort of helped, but not to a satisfying extent. I used to use an external drive to contain my bulky files back when I was using a PC, but cant seem to find one that's compatible and/or for Macs.
    Many thanks!

  • WRT610N keeps needing to be reset

    Hi,
    My WRT610N wireless router keeps needing to be reset to be able to connect to the internet. I updated the firmware about two weeks ago and things were going great again until a day or so ago, then it started cutting out multiple times a day. I checked and there doesnt seem to be any new firmware, so now I'm at a loss as to what I need to do to fix this.
    I have 3-4 computers connecting to it at a time (1 xp pc, 1 vista pc, 1-2 laptops with vista i think). Even when its just the two pcs using it, it stll disconnects.
    One thing to note that has happened multiple times: the two pc's both have everquest 2 running on them, and it seems when one is logged into the game, and the other starts to log in to them (it will almost be logged in, on a loading game resources screen) the wireless router will need to be reset. This has happened enough times to make me think theres something to it.
    Also, there have been a couple times when after resetting and getting it working, there will be a message that pops up about having conflicting ips, then that message goes away.

    I think it a problem with firmware of your Router, you need to upgrade the firmware of your Router..
    Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in search tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
    Firmware Upgrade/Reflash
    Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
    Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
    In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
    Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
    Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • 1841 ADSL Router - Forward GRE/PPTP query

    Hi,
    <br />
    <br />I have a customer that has an 1841 ADSL router as a backup to their main 10Mb ISP circuit. The customer has a windows server that they use for some remote access sessions with GRE/pptp. When the primary 10Mb link is in use, this works fine as the ASA on this link has a 1:1 NAT rule and allows port 1723 and protocol 47 through to this windows machine.
    <br />
    <br />When the 10Mb link is down, the customer would like to still be able to RAS into the windows machine but via the IP of the backup ADSL router (which is also connected to the ASA). Looking at various posts, I found that I need to have a static NAT for port 1723 on the inside to the dialer interface, which I have done - but I can't find how I would forward the protocol 47 traffic.
    <br />
    <br />I've attached a copy of the config from the ADSL router if anyone is interested.
    <br />
    <br />The IP of the windows RAS box is 192.168.247.113/24 on the DMZ of the ASA, which is translated as 81.X.X.X on the outside interface of the ASA.
    <br />
    <br />I hope that this makes sense - please let me know if you need any further information, and thanks in advance for any assistance.
    <br />
    <br />
    <br />1) XXX-XXX-ADSL-02-conf-03-02-09_netpro.txt
    <br />

    IP Protocol 47 which is GRE tunnel traffic. So there is VPN tunnel going through your device and all data going in that tunnel is translated as GRE traffic. You can only have one PPTP/L2TP connection through the PIX Security Appliance when you use PAT. This is because the necessary GRE connection is established over port 0 and the PIX Security Appliance only maps port 0 to one host.

    Air Play in my Apple TV disconnects from iPhone or Mac book after some time of playing. I need to restart the router in order to connect again. Apple tv is connected to wifi succesfully? Any suggestion?

    I tried something new yesterday after reading all these messages.  My ATV3 was situated on top of my satellite box and I noticed that it was quite warm.  The instruction manual suggests that the box not go over a certain temperature, so I moved the box to a location without the heat under it.  It now works without any problem at all...at least, so far.

  • Internet problems with an RV-082 Router and Swann DVR connected.

    I have a problem from the twilight zone.  When my Swann DVR (CONVR-B163MP) is NOT connected I can access the internet without any problems.  When the Swann DVR is connected, I lose access to Google and secure "Log-in" webpages.  It is as if there is a firewall blocking them.  I can access most normal websites without any problems.  Once the problem occurs, I need to reboot the router in order to gain clear access again.  Just unplugging the DVR will not fix it.
    I have a resolution by connecting an older router directly to the WAN, then linking that router to the Cisco RV-082.  I have access controlled by MAC codes and took off the DVR to prevent it from getting access to the Cisco RV-082.  The DVR is connected to  the older router to get to the internet.
    It is just a strange problem.
    The Swann DVR is working through the internet to provide a live video feed to my phone.
    If anyone knows an answer I would be glad to hear it.

  • Advice needed for VPN connections

    OK to first describe what I'm looking at .We have a bookmobile that goes to 13 different locations within our county. At each stop we are using the service provider's DSL modem to connect to their network, we have two different providers and staff changes the modem at each stop, and a Cisco831 router to make a VPN connection to our PIX. We are using the router to make the VPN connection so that we can have two staff computers use internal network resources i.e. Library database, network drives, e-mail. We tried using Cisco VPN client on the local machine but when we have two clients going on two machines at the same time neither would work. So we let the router make that connection.
    We are going to have two bookmobiles operating and I need to purchase another router to make the connection and I am wondering which router would be a better solution for us.
    So for me the question is
    1) should I keep things as they are and buy a 871 and have staff change modems as needed
    2) Should I get an 877, 878 router and make configuration changes daily as needed. Staff have not been able to do this in past. I've enough to do without this!
    3) Up for any suggestions Maybe SDM with a pretty GUI for staff to use. It seems Cisco's CLI was too much for them.
    Thanks to all for any help
    Systems A

    No Nat-traversal is enabled.
    When we tried multiple VPN connections it was through a DSL modem/router. This is why we went to a Cisco831 router and having it make the secure connection to our PIX.
    Thanks for you help

  • I do not see where to enter IP addresses in the Open VPN setup. Also, how can I set it up so that I can choose different servers in the same way as I can currently choose them with my VPN app but for PPTP?

    I think I have it working on my iPhone 5. But, I do not see how I can control the exit point that I would like for the VPN. Are all the exit points shown in the VPN setting now going to work with Open VPN, or do they remain PPTP? If I am reading correctly, they look like they remain PPTP. If I cannot control the exit point for open VPN, which exit point is the default in the profile you provided me?I note that Open VPN Connect does not work with any of the new 64 bit devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the new iPad MIni. Is there any chance that you guys will come up with an update for your app so that open VPN can be made to work on all iOS devices? That would be nice, particularly if the Open VPN Connect app does not give me a choice of exit points.Thanks,

    Just a quick note to tell you that Open VPN has updated their app so that it is compatible with 64 bit ARM devices like the iPhone 5S, the iPad Air, and the iPad Mini Retina.That does not resolve the problem of how to easily choose among the various possibilities for the exit server. We need to find an easy way to choose.

    Thank you for trying the new Firefox. I'm sorry that you’re unhappy with the new design.
    I understand your frustration and surprise at the removal of these features but I can't undo these changes. I'm just a support volunteer and I do not work for Mozilla. But you can send any feedback about these changes to http://input.mozilla.org/feedback. Firefox developers collect data submitted through there then present it at the weekly Firefox meeting
    I recommend you try to adjust to 29 and see if you can't make it work for you before you downgrade to a less secure and soon outdated version of Firefox.

  • Cisco 831 Router to Configure VPN Access

    Hello,
    I need assistance in configuring a VPN in a Cisco 831 Router. I do not have any experience in configuring routers and VPN's, and would appreciate if any one could help out.
    I would like to connect three Laptops to the Cisco 831 via Cisco VPN Client. Three laptops must have 10.42.6.x Address assigned by the router on the VPN Connection. They will also need access to the internal network which is 192.168.x.x private network. The Cisco has a Static IP on the Internal Interface and External Interface. I have tried several different ways of doing this, however I must be doing something wrong in my config.
    Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Robert
    You can refer the below link in finding out the exact config to start with.
    do make sure that your Cisco 831 box with the current IOS code installed in it supports the required feature to run the same..

  • Need to accept VPN connections from "Any"

    I had previously been using two WRV54G wireless routers to establish a site to site VPN connection between a branch office and our corporate Headquarters. Because of the limited DHCP scope configuration options, I decided to "upgrade" to the WRVS4400N devices. I have now been able to establish the VPN again between the two new boxes but I've now gotten to the point where I would like to add an additional remote site. In the WRV54G, it was easy to configure the one at HQ to accept connections from "any" but this new router does not seem to be as simple.
    Oh yeah, I am running firmware version 1.1.03 on both routers.
    Does anyone have any idea how I can set up the HQ router to accept VPN connections from "any"?
    Thanks! I appreciate the help.

  • What ports to open on ADSL router for ePrint

    My HP ePrint printer is behind an ADSL router with firewall/NAT functionality. The printer has an internal ip address.
    Incoming connections from the internet are by default denied unless I open specific ports and protocols on the firewall and do natting to the internal network. What do I need to to open to allow HP to send print jobs to my HP printer at home?

    This setup works for me on a port-based firewalled NAT router with all inbound/outbound TCP/UDP ports blocked from 1 to 65535 except those enabled out of necessity like DNS (UDP/TCP port 53). I added TCP port 5223 (XMPP over SSL) outbound only to the NAT firewall. TCP port 443 (HTTPS) outbound was already enabled. No UDP ports. No inbound. No need to do NAT port forwarding. Port 5222 (XMPP) also works for me but it's unencrypted, I believe.
    It takes several minutes for the ePrint service to get established but it does eventually work. I think the printer tries to connect to the ePrint service on port 5222 first and when that fails it tries 5223 so it takes a little more time to get connected. But, that's just a guess.
    See http://xmpp.org/rfcs/rfc3920.html if you care to know more about XMPP.

  • My Photosmart D100a wireless printer keeps changing IP Address when router reboots.

    My Photosmart D100a wireless printer keeps changing IP Address when router reboots.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
    - Click 'Apply'.
    Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
    After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
