Keep playing while transcribing an interview
I am trying to transcribe an interview with FCP playing as I type into Word. The problem is, when I switch to the Word window, FCP stops playing automatically. Is there a setting or option that would allow me to play an interview while simultaneously typing in Word?
I feel like I must be missing something simple, but can't seem to find it.

Perhaps this may be helpful, for it's really important to my daily workflow. I use a 17" macbook as my email, web, word processor, photoshop & light FCP.
When I sit at my Macpro workstation (2 monitors) I use my laptop in front of it, running a program called "Teleport". http://www.abyssoft.com/software/teleport/
It allows me to use my mouse and keyboard of my laptop to run not only it, but the Macpro as well. Really cool program. It also is ok with a plugin mouse and a wacom tablet.

Convert Music while Keeping Play Count, etc.
I've just come to the conclusion that AAC sounds significantly better than MP3 at the same bitrate. I've also noticed from using my own music that a song that's 128-kbps AAC sounds just as good as 160-kbps MP3.
When I first started using iTunes (back in my Windoze days), I imported the majority of my music as 160-kbps MP3 and continued doing so after I got my MBP.
Now since I realized that I could have the same quality of music take up much less space if I use 128-kbps AAC, I would like to convert my MP3s to AAC. However, when doing this in iTunes, it does not copy the play count, last played, etc. While it wouldn't be a big deal if I only had a few hundred songs, I have over 2500 that I would want to convert.
Does anyone know of a way (or another application) that can convert my MP3s to AAC and keep play counts and other tags?

Well, that's the problem. I've got everything figured out about how I'd convert my music and remove the originals. But my problem is I don't want to lose my play counts. If were just a couple songs, I could just run up the play count on my own, but I have way too many songs to do that to.
That's why I'm trying to find out if there's some way (a script or another application) to convert my files and keep all that information.
Sorry, but you cannot. Converting music formats creates a new separate file. It is supposed to work that way due to the differences in file qualities and other details. Playcount can only be manipulated by either playing the tracks through or editing the iTunes database (something I do not recommend) -
The latest version of itunes on my imac keeps quitting while playing through apple tv. Anyone having the same problem?
Are you downloading iTunes form an Apple website or somewhere else? If the answer is somewhere else, try downloading it from Apple. Click on iTunes in the black menu bar above and go from there.

Dvd player not working after Instaling OS X 10.8.4 Video freezes while audio keeps playing
After installing OS X 10.8.4 I tried to play a DVD and the video starts to freeze up while audio keeps playing. Video eventually stops completely while audio continues to play. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know how to fix this issue??
Try booting into the Safe Mode to see if the same problem occurs. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

The problem is the "screen saver". Normally after some time the backlight of your ipod is switched off automatically and a clock appears. This doesn't work properly and leads to resets.
The solution: You have to go in the main menu to "settings/backlight and activate "Always on". After that your ipod should work properly. To avoid a very low battery runtime now, you have to adjust the brighness settings to a low value.
This also solves problems like radomly skipping songs or stopping playback.
I really would like apple to solve this problem, but i doubt this will ever happen. -
Playing a clip in FCE while transcribing text in Word
or other word processing software. How do you accomplish that? When I click outside of FCE the playhead stops.

MacBook Air keeps playing the restart sound every few hours
So my Macbook Air keeps playing the restart sound every few hours. It's that "Dummmmmmmm" sound when you first boot up the computer. Things I noticed: when the sound played and I quickly went to open my laptop it was like nothing has happened - I had my Google Chrome window from the previous session open, everything was just normal as if I had just opened the laptop to resume using it. This has only happened when the Mac is folded up. Today it just happened at approximately 10:00 and here's the log:

Audio from inserted video keeps playing on next slide
Hello,
I'm experimenting with Adobe Presenter 6. I have inserted a
video clip into a slide. There is a stop action on frame1 with a
button that advances to frame2. The video has audio, which
unfortunately keeps playing if I advance to the next slide. If I go
once slide further ahead, the audio from the video stops. Has
anyone else encountered this problem? It's driving me crazy!

I actually ran into the same situation...not with a video
clip, but with a basic flash animation that had audio in it. I'm
not suggesting that the following will definitely work for you, but
it might be worth taking a look at:
Any audio that's set to "Event" while editing in Flash will
continue to "stream" , even while navigating between slides. In
most cases that I've seen (from my experience), audio will stop if
the offending slide is placed immediately before a question slide.
I realize that might not be practical in every case, so....
1. Make sure that audio sync settings in flash are set to
"Stream". What this does is effectively kill off any audio once you
navigate away from the slide that has the embedded flash on it.
2. you can always add a stopAllSounds(); method in flash, but
that's not highly recommended
UNLESS your content slide (with the offending flash object )
comes immediately before, or within a range of question slides.
Again, this too might not be entirely practical based on what
you're trying to do.
I realize that might not help, but as I said, it might be
worth taking a look at how you're incorporating your video.

Video inserted into AP Element - Audio keeps playing on rollout
Hi,
I have created an AP Element that on rollover a thumbnail video plays of the full video.
This works fine.
However on rollout, the video does disappear, but the Video Audio keeps playing.
How do I stop the Audio playing when the user rolls out of the link?It keep playing because your rollout action doesn't specifically turn off the audio (it only makes the video invisible). It probably doesn't stop the downloading of the video either. So while the video isn't displaying, it continues to download the entire file..... not a good idea!
Depending on how you are playing the video, you'll have to devise a means of controlling the video (NOT just making it invisible).
For example:
If the player is a Flash player using NetStream, a simple ns.close(); button would work.
If a JWPlayer, you can use javascript to stop the player, something like this:
<a onclick="jwplayer().stop();"...........
I know that's an onclick event, but you should get the idea.
You'll have to adapt the principle to match your specific vid player.
To eliminate this very common video player issue, you MUST stop the video (and audio) as the very first action, BEFORE you make the video player disappear.

the new U2 album that I never asked for keep playing on my Ipad, how do I get rid of it ? seems to come from the iCloud....
when it show a cloud to the right then it's not on your device
it mean that it's tied to y our iCloud account and can be redownloaded should you wish to
if you buy other music from iTunes and don't want it on the iOS device anymore because you transferred to your computer
and wish to add other music then that too will show with the cloud it mean that should you wish you can get it downloaded again free
it's pretty much the same deal in app store app where you can click on purchases and access all apps tied to your appleID

Premiere Pro CC freezes on a frame during playback, but audio keeps playing?
Hi,
First time poster, long time visitor to the boards. Running a new Mac "Pony Keg" (I think calling it a "trash can" invites bad performance ) with OSX 10.9.5. Here's a recurring issue: I am playing back a sequence and then it will freeze on a frame (different everytime) and the audio keeps playing. I can stop the playback and it will continue to play, but the frame is locked in. Next, I'll quit out of the app, and try to reopen, but nothing happens because Premiere never actually quit. I'll pull up Force Quit window and it reads as "not responding." I'll Force Quit, relaunch the project and things will work again for a while, and then I need to do a whole reboot. Any thoughts on what might be causing this freeze frame issue or why Premiere won't actually quit? I've seen these posts in some various threads, but not these two issues in the same thread. Thanks in advance for any help and insights offered!

I would suggest these things:
Do this first: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
If that doesn't help, Change the Video Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine software only under File > Project settings > General. Delete previews after clicking on OK.
If nothing helps, try this:
Go to the following locations:
Location 1: When in Finder, click on Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Location 2: Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe
Location 3: Documents > Adobe
In all the locations, rename the 'Adobe' folders to 'OldAdobe'
Launch Premiere, accept the License Agreement and see if it works.
Note: You will lose your customized workspaces, keyboard shortcuts and media cache.

HTML5 videos freeze after loaded, audio keeps playing
This started happening some months ago in my old laptop and it also occurs now in the new one. A lot of times, when I play an HTML5 video (not just in YouTube, it also happens in Streamcloud for example), after it's fully loaded and I start playing it, it will stop (on YouTube the "loading" animation appears), and the audio will keep playing. The only thing I can do is mute it and reload the page. Whenever it happens, it usually happens again after a while, and it's really frustrating to have to reload a few times after it's loaded to be able to watch a 1 hour video.
My laptop has two video cards, an Intel HD integrated one and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce. It doesn't matter which one I use or if I turn hardware acceleration on or off, the issue persists.
What can I do?Check that all of your software is up to date.

PPro14CC - Playback freeze, audio keeps playing (OS X, iMac)
I think this is might be a similar issue to what others are experiencing, but the symptoms are unique so I'm hoping someone has found a possible solution by now?
One of our editors has been working on a large project (10 HD promo spots, at least 100GB of raw footage from Canon C300) and experiencing at least 4 crashes per day. And by "crash" I mean that CC14 stops playback -- the Program monitor freezes -- while the audio keeps playing. In some cases he can switch out to the Finder and then back to CC14 to stop the playback, and while he is able to hit "Save" and "Quit" the Program monitor never unfreezes. Some times though he gets the Beachball of Death and has to force quit everything, and curiously the timeline audio still plays out of the speakers after CC14 has quit and the machine is waiting to restart. On at least one occasion he got a major error and PPro created a new project file after closing down. VERY frustrating.
From what he's told me (I haven't been working alongside him that closely), the freeze ONLY happens when the playhead hits a clip that has filters or effects applied. Right now he's mostly doing a picture-in-picture effect with a beveled edge filter applied to the smaller window, and 3-way color correction on other clips.
For troubleshooting I focused on the graphics card first. The iMac has a Geforce 780 and was originally running with OpenCL so I downloaded the latest CUDA driver and switched to that but it made no difference. Turning OFF the hardware acceleration just made everything sluggish. I also repaired permissions on the drive. I'm hesitant to do anything too major while he's still working so please let me know if trashing prefs and/or reinstalling will wreck anything in the project or if you would recommend importing everything into a new one.
Brand new 27" iMac (non-Retina), 32GB ram, latest Yosemite (10.10) and CC14 versions, no plugins installed, no fancy system extensions or antivirus software. OWC Thunderbay RAID, M-Audio speakers, 2nd monitor is 42" Plasma TV via mini-Displayport-to-HMDI adapter in 2nd Thunderbolt port.

We switched the Sequence Settings Preview to Quicktime>ProRes from I-frame MPEG, and it seems to be running better. Will update again if it fails to produce consistent results. Hope this helps somebody else!

Youtube keeps playing the same video in chrome
Hi,
When i hit backspace or go to the main page in youtube while watching a video, it just keeps playing it. It only occurs in chrome and i've disabled flash so it's not that. did anyone experience something like this?I confirm your observation that iRadio plays the same tracks far too often and when it plays songs from my Library, one is blessed to hear commercials as a bonus. Thus far, my expectations of iRadio has not been met, having to go back to Pandora which has their act together. Nothing ventured, nothing lost. Pandora app for iPad and iPhone also works well with Airport Express and Ford Sync.

Capture stops recording but tape keeps playing
Have run into something very odd. I installed adobe CS5.5 Master Collection on my brand new computer and when I am capturing video in Premiere, it periodically will stop capturing the video and the tape will keep playing but noticed the recording has stopped. This is happening to me consistenly. I have purchased a brand new Dell XPS 9100 I-7 Extreme Processor, 12 Gig Memory 2tb 7200 RPM Hard Drive EVGA GEForce GTX 460 SE 1GB GDDR5 PCI- Express 2.0 Graphics Card, and the only programs that are installed on the machine are Roxio Media Creator 2011 and MCaffee Virus Protector and Windows 7 64 Bit. Other than that there is the generalized programs that Dell puts on and I have the Adobe Master Collection 5.5 installed.
I am not sure why the recording part of the capture stops recording but it is getting very frustrating. I know it's not the camera because I uploaded video with no problem via Firewire on my other computer that has adobe premiere CS4 and had no problems.
I really hope someone has a fix for this or can explain to me why this is happening but it is very frustrating.

Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing

A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used this eSata Dock... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers
