Keep stroke weight for EPS when scale it in InDesign

hi all,
Is it possible to have an object (in an EPS-file which generated by AI) with a stroke width that stays the same, when you scale the EPS in InDesign? if so, how?
thanks
AC
system: windows 7
InDesign CS6

Everything in the EPS file will change size when you scale it, either scaling it up or scaling it down.
A way to do it and it's not very neat is to copy and paste it from Illustrator into inDesign and scale it that way.
The better option would be to scale it in Illustrator to the size you want and the stroke weights you want and import that into InDesign.

  • Set Stroke weight for a frame not working in CS4.

    Hi All,
How to set Stroke weight for a frame.
I tried using CreateStrokeWeightCommand of IGraphicAttributeUtils, but its not working in CS4.

    Hi All,
CreateStrokeWeightCommand of IGraphicAttributeUtils works only when if the frame has some stroke weight already applied to it.
So do i need to set something else before using CreateStrokeWeightCommand to make it work programatically on a frame with no stroke weight.

  • Keep stroke weight when zooming into a comp

    Hello
I am building an animation which depicts the building of an element in Photoshop using grid, guides, and bezier paths. I need to represent these items graphically, and not using a screen grab animation.
I need to zoom into a comp up to 800% and show how paths and grid are manipulated in pixel-perfect work. When zooming in, the paths that show the grid and the bezier paths must stay at 1px in width at all zoom levels.
I'll be creating "bezier" strokes using the path tool in AE. I'll be applying a line weight to it in order to show the strokes. When I zoom in, the strokes need to stay the same weight.
What's the easiest way to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    ------------S

You would link the stroke width of e.g. a shape layer to the zoom/ scale with a linear() expression.
    linear(zoom,startzoom,endzoom,startwidth,endwidth)
Fill in values as needed. The actual zoom varable could be linked to a slider ir the scale of the pre- comped main animation in the parent comp...

  • How do you keep strokes, etc, from changing when copying & pasting?

I am sure there is a simple solution to this problem, but I cannot figure it out and could use some help.  I have a graphic in one InDesign document (ID CS4 - using Windows XP Pro) and when I try to copy and paste it into another ID doc, it completely changes the strokes and fills.  It usually does the opposite of what is in the graphic (this happens with every graphic I try this with).  So if I have a circle that is stroke only, when I copy and paste it, it comes in with no stroke and a fill.  I have to use these graphics between documents frequently and some of them are complicated, making it difficult to spend the time correcting this problem.  When I tried adding the graphic to a library, it did the same thing.  It also changed it when I moved one page to another document.  Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening and how to make it stop?
    Thanks,
    GS

Thanks for the reply.  While it wasn't the preferences, I did find a link on the link you included in your answer that led me to the solution.
The problem was conflicting object styles.  The solution was to load the object style from the doc that included the graphic into the doc that I wanted to place the graphic in.  Then when I copy & paste, the graphic comes in perfectly.  The only problem is if there are other graphics in that doc, but now that I know there is an issue with object styles, I can pay attention to it as I design.
I can always count on the forum for great answers!

  • Certain LinkedIn functions are not working. Browser keeps on looping, for instance when using the search function

I go to LinkedIn and type in a name in the search box, for instance "Peter" and hit enter.
Normally, this will return with a list of people with the first name "Peter", listed according to degrees connectivity.
Instead the web site never loads the next page. It appears that it keeps loading the page over and over again, but with no result.
In the end I have to press back or use another browser (Safari) to load the page and use the search function.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    1. Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Command+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server. Any difference? If not...
    2. Clear Firefox's Cache Completely
    Edit > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    3. If needed, remove your linkedin.com cookies
While viewing a page on the site:
Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Remove each cookie then try reloading the page. You probably will need to log in again. Does that help?

  • Printing to a Windows shared printer, keep getting "Hold for Authentication" when I'm on the Windows shared network and can browse the computers.

I have had two MacBook Pros now, and this has been an issue in Mountain Lion and Mavericks. I've got a shared printer on the local Windows network (it's a USB printer shared via the network and the computer), and the other Windows computers in the house can print to it no problem. The Mac sees it no problem, yet whenever I try to print to it, I just get "Hold for Authentication."
Like I said, persists over Mountain Lion and Mavericks. No other computer in the house has any issues printing to it. I've installed the drivers for the printer as well (Brother HL-2240).
I've tried to follow the instructions here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23268762#23268762 but the printer isn't listed in Keychain Access.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

Well, that isn't too useful. Try this instead: Adding a printer shared by a Windows computer via SMB/CIFS.
You may find more by selecting Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and searching for articles by keyword.

  • What typfaces are there that I can use varied weights for East Asian Characters?

I am at a dead end trying to find a typeface which is not a script, which offers me more than one stroke weight for Traditional Chinese and South Korean characters. I need a typeface which will compliment Helvetica.
    Please help!
    Thank you

I can't help you with Korean.  As for Chinese, the system fonts for Windows and the Chinese fonts bundled with some Adobe products come in a single weight, as you already know.  However, some of the Japanese fonts bundled with InDesign come in multiple weights: various weights of Kozuka Pro _might_ work for traditional Chinese, though some forms occur only in Japanese.
Character set is a big deal, and Chinese fonts vary significantly in the number of characters they contain.  Typically, you get more characters in standard weights (i.e.,  "regular" or "light").  Note, too, that authors frequently use Windows system fonts for Chinese (MingLiU or PMingLiU). These happen to have very large character sets, meaning they contain many variant forms that are not available in most fonts; inevitably, authors use some of these variants and they show up missing in the weight you need.
Dynafont and Arphic packages are pretty well regarded, and included a variety of weights in some styles -- but watch out for character-set issues.  I can't recommend a source since the one I used disappeared.
    Good luck!

  • Adjust stroke weight when scaling problem

    Hello,
I am having trouble with the stroke on an object changing when I scale that object.  I have already read to uncheck "Adjust Stroke Weight when Scaling" but my problem is that option is grayed out in my "Transform" panel.  When I go into edit>menus, there is an "eye" graphic next to it so it should be showing.  I am trying to figure out how to make that show up so that I can then uncheck it, resize a photo and keep the same stroke weight at all times.
    Thanks
    Pat

    Peter,
Thank you for your response, that was what I needed to fix the problem!

  • How to stop changing stroke weights when changing the size of an object in CS5 on Windows 7?

I'm not sure what I did to make this happen or how to change it back, but for some reason when I change the size of an object/line it changes the stroke weight as well. (For example, if I drew an ellipse with stroke weight 2 pt, and then increased the size the stroke weight would be 2.856 pt or some such number instead of 2 pt.) Does anyone know how to change this back?
    Thanks!

Take a look at the Scale Strokes and effects preference either in the general programme preferences or in the flyout menu of the Transform palette.

  • Maintaining stroke weight proportionally in scales

when i give a path a stroke weight and then scale and then scale it down, the stroke weight remains in the same. how can i get the stroke weight to scale proportionally too.
example: when I make a logo, I assign a stroke of 2 pts to the graphic. then I scale it down to a business card size and the stroke weight remains 2 pts which is too much for a tiny graphic. also when I scale it up, the stroke weight proportionally appears to be too thin... please help

You can also make that change in the flyout menu in the Transform Panel.

  • Line shifts when I increase stroke weight

    Hi,
I'm using strokes in a document. I have a series of lines that are centered on grid lines; however, when I increase the stroke weight, the line moves as if the top edge of the stroke is anchored and not the center of the line.
I am unable to find any setting to change this, but it is really making my work difficult. Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks!

    gleake,
In cases like this, the first guess is Align to Pixel Grid.
You may select everything and then untick Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform palette, and also untick Align New Objects to Pixel Grid in the flyout options.
You may avoid document types with that as default (RGB for web and the like) or change the default for such documents.

  • Maintaining Stroke Weight when changing path to brush stroke

Is there a way or an option I am missing to convert my regular paths to a path stroked with a brush profile, while maintining the proper stroke width?
For instance, I have a regular line with a stroke of 5 and then add a brush profile, which then converts the original stroke to whatever the brush was made at.
Can I change this? I am hoping I am missing something with an option or how I make brushes
    Thanks!

    dasikins,
When you apply a Brush to a path, the resulting width of the brush will be the basic brush width multiplied by the path Stroke Weight in points.
Presuming you wish to have a final brush width of 5pt and the basic width is 2.5pt, you will need a path with a Stroke Weght of 2pt because 2*2.5 = 5.
I wonder whether this is relevant or nonsense.
