Keep the audio signal digital between two Macs?

I have a MacBook (2GHz, 2GB RAM) running Logic Pro 8 and an iMac G5 (2GHz, 2GB RAM) that I use for Guitar Rig. I have an MBox 2 Pro connected to the MacBook. My current solution is to use the audio outputs of the iMac as inputs to the MBox 2 Pro, introducing another stage of D/A -> A/D conversion. The iMac has optical outputs and the MBox 2 Pro has has S/PDIF connectors; is there a way to keep the signal from the iMac to the MacBook completely digital, preferably without buying another audio interface?

Hi Axel,
I just bought the CO2 as well... it does work well. Although I have been having some other issues not related to the CO2 but more the iMac and its digital ins and outs. I posted this in another:
I'm having a similar problem / issue with the digital outs...
I'm sending a digital signal via a mini-TOSlink adaptor to my MOTU 828mkII ADAT IN... first problem is that unless I set the MOTU's clock to ADAT IN... (and not use it's only internal clock) then I get digital noise when I playback anything on my iMac... since there is no way to set the iMac clock in Audio Midi Setup to External... it's greyed out.
The larger issue is that playback works fine as long as the Audio driver is being used... i.e. iTunes playiing something back. When I stop any audio playback... about 30 seconds later, the MOTU sync light starts flashing as it's NOT receiving a sync signal from the iMac anylonger. Then if I start playback again it takes about 2-3 seconds for the playback to sound. Totally unacceptable...
I noticed a few things... first off... I also send a signal from my MOTU BACK to my iMac through the iMac's digital IN. With the Digital Output on the iMac, plugging in the TOSLINK cable will automatically change the OUTPUT in Audio Midi Setup to Digital Out... when plugging in the 2nd cable to Digital In, Audio Midi Setup DOES NOT change to Digital In unless you start audio playback, and that's where the 2-3 seconds lag comes in. When you actually hear the playback, if Audio Midi Setup is open... you can see the INPUT switch from Line In to Digital In... and if you stop playback, you can see the Digital In go BACK to Line In about 30 secs later... which should NOT be happening... although technically the Digital in should have NO effect on the Digital Out here anyway... and in truth it doesn't... taking the Digital In out of the equation totally - I still see the same issues... just find it interesting that this is happening.
I was wondering if you had noticed anything similar. Could you try to replicate my issue?
Any help would be appreciated... I'm wondering if the iMac's sound card is bad. Thanks so much

can Lion server keep my photos in sync between two macs?  Where should I keep them, we have Aperture 3 and my wife still likes iphoto '11.  I've already tried plenty of 3rd party solutions with little success.  I simply want my MBP to "mirror" the imac with the exception of iMovie footage.  Is this what the server app can do?  I am bad enough with computers, but even thinking about a server gives me migraines!

  • Sharing the same Aperture Library between two Mac's?

gents does any of you manage to share the same Aperture Library between your iMAC and a MacBook?
How can I do it without risking to lose anything or to jeopardize the integrity of my library backup?
the idea is to work on Projects while I am on the move and placing them back into my Main Library sitting on my iMAC at home...
    Thx!
    P

For each project you want to work on, CTRL + Click the project and "Export -> Project as new library". These new temporary libraries can be moved to your MacBook for working on.
When you come back, import the libraries back to your main Aperture Library with "File -> Import -> Library" and choose to merge your changes. The changes you made will be added to your main library. The temporary libraries can then be deleted.
Deleting them avoids the temptation of working on them later, possibly creating conflicts. It best to export new copies from your main library each time you work away so you know you have current up to date versions.

  • Sharing the iweb website creation between two macs in the same house?

I have an imac. Just purchased a macbook for the wife that arrives tomorrow. She wants to be able to update our website using her imac (a website I've started and maintained on the imac).
My question is...is it possible to "sync" the iweb application or to otherwise let her have access to the same info I see on the imac so she may update the site as well from her own mac?
We are connected in the house via a wireless network.
    Thanks.

just  the audio, eh?. If you were using DVI or DisplayPort that might be different, but for audio alone, it shouldn't be that hard.  Just grab a 3.5 mm stereo plug to 2 rca cables adapter. Plug the smaller end into the back of your Mac Pro (or the Front), where you see either the headphone or speaker icon). Alt-click on the speaker icon at the top of your screen to show all audio inputs and outputs. Make sure it's set to Line Out.  Plug the red and white end into the audio in jacks on the back of your tv and set it to the correct input. I don't know if your tv will allow just the audio to play. Usually one has to connect up something else, but hopefully I'm wrong.  If you were using DVI, or DisplayPort, you'd need an active DVI--HDMI adapter or a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but
    I don't know for sure

  • Sync folders between two Macs

    Howdy,
I want Mail on two of my Macs to be in sync. I have a lot of rules set up and once the rules are applied the mail is sorted in local folders so it disappears from the inbox. This of course causes it to no longer be available on the other Mac.
Looking for an application that can sync files I select between two Macs whenever a change is detected on either of them, in this case my Mail folder and peferences. This can go directly or through an OS X server that's running 24/7. I don't want to move my folders to the mailserver but keep them local.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I've had a Macbook Pro for about a year and a half and love it so much that this Christmas I decided to buy myself a second Mac. I got a refurbished 24 inch iMac and just set it up last night. During the setup it occurred to me that there are certain folders on both computers (documents, pictures, audio, downloads, etc) that I would like to have available and synchronized between both computers. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to do this. Does this functionality exist in Snow Leopard?
no. not unless you want to use a command line tool like rsync.
If not, are there any 3rd party apps that will solve my problem?
you can use Chronosync or ForkLift. also, you can sync not directly between computers but via a cloud. there are many services that do that. there is apple's own mobileme. another very popular one is DropBox.

  • How do I share files between two Macs on my wireless network?

I have an iMac G4 and an ibook G3 on a wireless network. I have "file sharing" activated on both computers. (Also Appletalk, which may or may not be a misguided move, but I got the idea from OSX "Help.")
When I try to get from either computer onto the other, my computer is recognized by name (another alternative is to log on as a "guest"). I'm prompted for a password. None of the passwords I use works. I've tried the administrative passwords for both computers.
How do I get beyond this hurdle to share files? I've posted elsewhere to no avail. This must be an easy one. How do you share files between two macs on one network?

Do your accounts on the machines have the same short name? It's an issue I've seen a few names.. one machine with bsmith, the other with bobsmith, but the long names for both being "Bob Smith". The login windows would confuse users because it showed their names, but because the short names didn't match, it wouldn't work.
The password you should use is the administrative one, so I don't know why you're not having luck.

  • How can I delete the video and keep the Audio  in a few frames using Imovie 11

How can I delete the video and keep the Audio  in a few frames using Imovie 11?

I've met the problem too before. but i solved it with  Audio Converter Mac instead of iMovie. If you have similar situation that just want to keep audio but not video, and if your file format is not workable in iMovie, you can use the Audio Converter for help too. it can easily help to extract audio soundtrack from any video format. Or if you need to convert one audio format to another, it is a good choice too, because it supports many common audio output formats.

  • How to sync two iTunes libraries between two Macs?

I have two macs (Mavericks) plus the latest version of iTunes. What I want to do is to mirror any change I do on one library to the other iTunes library using Google Drive (iTunes Library Mac 1 to iTunes Library Mac 2 and vice versa).
I installed Google Drive on both of my Macs. It works pretty well at mirroring changes in .mp3 files names changes I do (i.e. My_Song.mp3 to MY_SONG.mp3), new files I add or files I delete...
But there are two things I can't sync right now. Playlists and files info attributes (i.e. when I change the soundtrack Genre of one of my soundtrack it doesn't sync with the same soundtrack on my other mac).
I know I can export+import playlist but I don't know how to actually sync playlists using Google Drive. iTunes has a special way of "storing" playlists. What I want is, for example, I create/modify a playlist on my Mac1 and it sync to Mac2 via Google sync.
So, how can I make my playlists + any changes I make on my soundtracks (not the mp3 files) sync between my Macs using Google Drive?
    Thank you.

All that information is in the library files.

Apple's attempt at doing this is Home Sharing but that's more of a track by track basis, not the whole library.  The only way you will get it to automatically "sync" is to share a common set of library files with both computers (note, only one computer can open a library file at a time).

  • Transferring applications between two Macs in different locations?

What is the easiest way to copy an application between two Macs? I originally installed a graphics program on my old eMac G4, then used the Migration Assistant to transfer it to my new iMac G5. I then reinitialized the old G4 and didn't bother to reinstall the graphics program, but now I would like to have it on this machine as well and I can't find the original install disk for this application. Complicating matters is that the machines are now in two different places, one at home, one at work. This is an expensive program, so I would hate to have to buy another copy and am kicking myself for not being able to find it. Thanks for any help...

If you can't find the original install disk for the program, contact the program vendor. Some may offer you a replacement disk for a nominal fee. And be sure to follow whatever license agreement you have for the purchase of that software. If it can't be installed at both home and at work, and you can't afford another copy of that program, you may want to seek a cheaper alternative.

  • How to calculate the no. of weekdays between two active dates

    Hi all,
I need to calculate the no. of weekdays between two days.
    For Example:
If i want to know the number of weekdays between 17-NOV-2008 to 7-DEC-2008 its 10 excluding sat and sun.
how to do that if the period is more?
    like 1-JAN-2006 to 12-APR-2007
    Thanks in advance..
    Regards,
    Manoj

    NEXT_DAY(start_date - 1,'SUNDAY') is first sunday >= start_date. NEXT_DAY(end_date - 7,'SUNDAY') is last Sunday <= end_date. Therefore:
    (NEXT_DAY(end_date - 7,'SUNDAY') - NEXT_DAY(start_date - 1,'SUNDAY')) / 7 + 1 is number of Sunday's between start_date and end_date. Same way:
    (NEXT_DAY(end_date - 7,'SATURDAY') - NEXT_DAY(start_date - 1,'SATURDAY')) / 7 + 1 As a result, number of weekdays between start_date and end_date is:
    business_day_count := end_date - start_date + 1 -((NEXT_DAY(end_date - 7,'SUNDAY') - NEXT_DAY(start_date - 1,'SUNDAY')) / 7 + 1 + (NEXT_DAY(end_date - 7,'SATURDAY') - NEXT_DAY(start_date - 1,'SATURDAY')) / 7 + 1) or
    business_day_count := end_date - start_date - 1 -(NEXT_DAY(end_date - 7,'SUNDAY') - NEXT_DAY(start_date - 1,'SUNDAY')) / 7 - (NEXT_DAY(end_date - 7,'SATURDAY') - NEXT_DAY(start_date - 1,'SATURDAY')) / 7 or:
    SELECT end_date - start_date - 1 -(NEXT_DAY(end_date - 7,'SUNDAY') - NEXT_DAY(start_date - 1,'SUNDAY')) / 7 - (NEXT_DAY(end_date - 7,'SATURDAY') - NEXT_DAY(start_date - 1,'SATURDAY')) / 7 FROM DUAL; The above code assumes business day count between two dates includes both start and end dates. Keep in mind, the above code is NLS dependent.
