Keep the same name while converting images to PDF

I am using Automator to convert images to PDF. The new images are in a different folder, but it is asking for an output file name. Can't I tell it to just keep the same name as the old file?

leaving the exact format, can you explain what does it mean by correctly formed Arabic fonts ?
What I did is created a text document in Arabic and converted it to PDF and the same file is converted back to word and the results were all junk..

  • Iphoto seems to be deleting old (several years old) images that hav the same name as new images being loaded. how can i fix this?

I was browsing some old photos in iPhoto11 and started getting 'image not found' errors. After much investigation, rebuilding thumbnails and extracting photos using fatface iphoto library manager it seems that newer photos with the same name as very old photos (Canon camera naming scheme IMG_nnnn.jpg) have caused the old photos to be deleted? I thought iphoto handled this situation but it seems not.
I never got any error or warning messages on importing the newer photos. Naturally the old ones have been in there for years and were originally imported using older versions of iphoto.
As it happens I do have all these old photos stored elsewhere so its not a case of panicking but I could do with a solution going forwards.
Has anyone else encountered this (and of course if so how did you resolve it?)
    TIA
    Paul

Every new import to iPhoto goes into a new folder on the HD, so no, iPhoto doesn't overwrite older images with the same filename.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

    Hi,
I'm trying to convert a Image format(JPEG,bmp, tiff) to PDF and then to PDF/A. I could able to convert Image to PDF successfully.
I'm getting the below error while converting the PDF(that was generated) to PDF/A.

Please give me the solution to convert PDF to PDF/A?

I've just read a footnote in the API documentation which indicates that the transformPDF function cannot be used for this purpose:
    "GS_Enterprise said on Nov 24, 2007 at 12:03 PM :
Please note that the parameter "inPdfDoc" for transformPDF assumes that the stream content is an XFA-based PDF, and that it's not an XFA-based PDF with a PDF background (also known as "XFA foreground"). In other words, this function does not convert any input PDF to PDF/A, but only those PDFs generated from an XFA template which does not include any static PDF content as a background."

  • How can I keep the same dimensions while cropping in Preview?

I know how to crop in Preview.  What I'm trying to do is crop a specific area of a picture while keeping the pictures original 8.5 x 11 aspect ratio.  Is there a way to automatically keep this aspect ratio instead of having to maually guess?  I always end up with a cropped picture that's slightly too tall or too wide.
    Thanks for your help.

Nor, surprisingly will iPhoto, unless the option has been added in '11.
Photoshop Elements will, so will Graphic Converter (with greater flexibility). You require the 'scale' function which may be a subset of 'resize'.

  • Multiple image files with the same name

I have about 150 images that have been imported into a single lightroom folder that have the same name. These images are from a single event, so Id like to keep them together. The source files are in two different folders on my drive, but they all exist in one folder on lightroom. (for instance, I have two different images, both named CR-0917, both with different retouching). Initially, Lightroom allowed me to do all of my editing on all of the files in one place, even though the names were the same. I have since moved the source folders and files to a different location on my hard drive, but I can't update the files within the folder in lightroom, because lightroom chooses one source, so it gets about half the images right, and half wrong. I spent a ton of time retouching these images and I dont want to have to go back and redo it.
Is there a way to manually update the source information for each image, without Lightroom automatically using all of the images from a single folder? Or does anyone have any other ideas of what I can do? Please help...

I am puzzled about how this problem initially arised, too.
For the issue with several cameras I recommend the following:
    1. If the camera lets you, specify a unique prefix so that each photo will have a unique name directly from camera.
E.g. Nikon lets you change their default prefix "DSC" to something else. As I even do not want to have recurring filenames after 10'000 shots I choose "yFL" as prefix, where y=number from 0..9, F=starting letter of ther first name of the camera owner, L=last name. Or other 2 digits that point to the camera model.
For current decade it is even nice to take y=1 for 2011 and so on. As I do roughly 10'000 shutters per year that fits about nicely. [Ok, as of 2020 I will use letters, too. 2046 I have to devise something else hoping that I will still be shooting photos with my same husband.]
    2. If the camera does not facilitate such, as Canon: rename upon LR-import by putting a short prefix in front of the originial filename, e.g. yS90_, yG12_
I only want from a filename that it be unique in my household and that I have a rough idea where in sequence of time it may belong.
So if I get pictures from friends I put a prefix for them, too, while importing. Leaving the rest of their original filename is good for further communication about the pic.
I think usually LR takes more properties into account than just filename when deciding about duplicate, such as camera serial no., capture time etc.
    Anybody who knows for sure?

  • Import ID Configuration Scenarios and keep the same Business System names

    Hi Guys,
Is it possible to transport ID Configuration Scenarios Objects between 2 XI systems and keep the same names for both sender and receiver Business Systems ? That is, to skip the SLD lookup for transport Source and Transport Targets systems ?
I tried to create the same Business Systems under the same name twice, but this was not possible. Any ideas ?
The reason is that I want to transport all the objects from one XI DEV server to another XI DEV server.
    Thank you,
    Best Regards,
    Evaggelos Gkatzios

    Hi,
We have done same but with bit of manual work (without Transport).
Create SLD object in target system with same name as in Souce XI system SLD.
IR & ID was exported using TPZ files from Source system & were imported in Target system.
It used same object names in both XI systems.

  • Upload new pdf file with the same name

We are trying to upload a pdf file with a specific name (i.e
file.pdf) that has links to it on many pages of a website. We need
the pdf file to keep the same name but when we try to upload it,
Contribute is being 'smart' and changing the name so as to not
overwrite the file on the server. But we WANT to overwrite the file
on the server. Any ideas on how we can achieve this in Contribute?
Thanks so much (in advance) for your help!

Actually, we have the same problem and I believe the answer
lies in the abilities that your role has assigned to it. The
solution that ThinkInk gave works *if you are allowed to delete
files*. If your role doesn't have that permission, then it will
just upload another copy of the file and rename it.
It's rather irritating that there isn't more control over
this...our server is littered with *thousands and thousands* of
duplicate files that originate from this situation.
If your administrator wants you to be able to delete files as
well, then you could get him/her to give you that permission, and I
believe this will allow you to overwrite the file by using the
"Publish file from my computer" option described above.

  • I'm a new customer and I've converted only 2 PDF documents, and neither document do the images show up, nor do they keep the same format.  If this is what I bought, then I want a refund too.

Is it possible to keep the same format with the images when converting.

    Hi,
May i know this is happening with these 2 files only or with every files?
Would it be possible for you to send me the document?
So that i can check what is the actual issue.

  • How to keep the same image quality after OCR ?

Hello, I have scanned a page of a book, it has mostly black text over white background. In order to keep a good visual quality and a low size for the file I chose the GIF format. The gif is 153.4KB, when I save it as PDF the file is 119KB  and after OCR it is 224.2KB (however the resulting rich text is only 3.6KB).
How come the PDF is smaller than the GIF ? Is the GIF converted into a JPEG ?
How come after OCR the PDF is twice bigger while the added text is only a few KB ? Is the image converted again ?
I only want to keep my GIF as it is and OCR it.
Is it possible ?  Even though in the "Convert to PDF" settings it says "There are no settings that can be edited in Conpuserve GIF"
If not, what other software could I use ? I have DEVONthink Pro but it also converts my GIF against my will.

Why are you talking about DPI ? the problem is not with acquisition but with convertion.
I don't want more detail I want to keep the same quality in the PDF that I had in the source file.
PjonesCET wrote: you can always use pdf Optimizer (in advanced menu) to reduce the size of the PDF without demishing the quality of  text.
Well I'd like to see that, because before optimizing a PDF you must save it and when you save it the image is converted.
Here is what I get with a 600DPI TIF converted to PDF. Notice the difference.
Because DPI (Dots per inch) density affects the quality of the OCR.   The higher the dpi, the better looking and more reliable the OCR. The less DPI is , the poorer the quality, and less relaible the scan is. There are different settings under the Create PDF Using Scanner Those setting affect the Quality of the OCR.
Once the Document has been OCR'ed have you tried to save as a Word Document or as an RTF Document? Then sleceted all the text and choosen a Font (Arial for example) save as a word document. Then created a new PDF. It might clean up the look at the text.
I will leave the answer at this and let someone else try. I don't wish to get anyone upset.

  • Replace a 2003 (not R2) File Server with a 2012R2 files server and preferably keep the same machine name and IP when finished

I am wanting to replace a 2003 (not R2) File Server with a 2012R2 file server and preferably keep the same machine name and IP when finished.  For the moment I just need some "high level" guidance, little details can be worked out once I know
which direction I will go.  I was considering that DFS might be a way to help get through the process although when finished the 2012R2 Files server will be by itself with no other file server planned at this time.  DFS can stay installed for maybe
future purposes but clearly I wouldn't need the DFS Replication with only one machine.
Here's a few details of the environment....
    1.  DC's are 2012R2 but it is still 2003 DFL because the old 2003 DCs are still present.  But likely they will be gone and the DFL elevated before I start on the File Server project
    2. Nearly all machines in the facility have a shortcut on the "All Users" Desktop that points to the existing old File Server.  Editing or replacing that shortcut would be a major pain,...hence why I want to keep the same machine name at least,
and maybe the same IP if not too much trouble.  This way the existing shortcut would continue to work with the new 2012R2 File Server.  The UNC path represented in that shortcut is also configured into one or more of our major business applications,
futher emphasizing the need to keep the UNC path the same throughout the process.
    3. The facility runs 24/7/365 but is "light" on weekends.  The political environment is such that there is little to no tolerance for any down time at all.
    4. Would DFS (based from the 2012R2 machine) be a good tool to get where I need to go?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi Sharon,
I've done some more reading and have a few new ideas to run past you....
Yes regular DFS wouldn't help and the Namespace would still be different than how it was with just the old server. However I was thinking DFS Replication could replace the purpose of RoboCopy and it would keep the two locations "in sync" until I was ready
to flip over to the new server.  DFS Rep can exist independently of a DFS Namespace, so a Namespace is not even needed. It needs a minimum of 2003R2 for the "later & better" DFS Rep but I believe 2003 can do an "in place" upgrade to 2003R2, so I would upgrade
the old server to 2003R2 first.  As long as the DFS Rep on 2012R2 and 2003R2 will properly interact I think that will work.
Thanks for the reg info on the Shares.  I'm debating if editing that would reg file would really be much better than manually creating the Shares on the new server while the DFS Replication was doing its job.  I'll probably export that Key as a
safety move whether I use it or not.
Once the DFS Rep is fully in sync and the Shares are in place on the new server, I figure I would then:
    1. Remove the DFS Replication Object (optionally remove DFS Services completely)
    2. Rename the old File Server to something else and set it to DHCP
    3. Rename the new File Server to the name I want to use and give it the IP the old server had.
    How does that sound?

  • How to import images that have the same name as images already imported

I am trying to import images into LR3.  I have a number of images with duplicate names.  Some of them are duplicate images that I simply have stored in different directories and some are images that are not duplicates but have the same name.  LR3 refuses to import any images that has the name of an image that has already been imported.  Is there anything I can do about this.  If not, it kind of makes the softwares useless to me.
    In hopes of a solution . . .

Thanks.  I'm sure making sure all file names are discrete makes sense.  I guess I need to find some kind of bulk re-name utility.
Additionally, I am dealing with a very large set of unorganized images and one of the uses I would like to put LR3 to is to organize the images into directories and get rid of duplicates while inspecting them to make sure that I don't trash differing images with the same names.  One of the challenges is identifying these images so I can re-name them.
I have been working with Apple's Aperture, which doesn't rely simply on the name to identify images since it uses a more complicated algorithm to differentiate images from each other.  It is one thing I really like about Aperture.  What I like about LR3 is that it lets me use actually file directories to store images rather than moving them into its own file system like Aperture does.  I don't like having files locked into a system that is software dependent.
Also, I finally found the checkbox that tells LR to import "duplicates."  I couldn't find it before.  I don't find LR3 as intuitive as I'd like.  I've always had to spend more time figuring out how Adobe software does things than I would like. I've had little luck with Adobe's support site, aside from this forum.
    Thanks for you helpful suggestions.

  • Trying to backup one of my iPhoto libraries I keep getting a error message that basically says that the file could not be backed up because there is another file on the external drive with the same name, etc. There is no other file.

While trying to copy one of my iPhoto libraries to an external hard drive I get the following error message "You can’t copy “iPhoto Library old” because it has the same name as another item on the destination volume, and that volume doesn’t distinguish between upper- and lowercase letters in filenames." There is no other file on the external drive with this name. I have asked this question before and was told that there are some duplicate photos (files) in my library and I needed to go to "show file contents" and look at certain files to find duplicates and delete the duplicates. I did all of this and the library will still not copy and always stops copying in the exact same place on each attempt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You've been deleting your actual Photos.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
Best way forward now is to recover the surviving Originals from this library and start over from scratch.

Is it possible for automator to convert all word documents in my dropbox folder to apple's "pages" on iCloud and keep the same folder organization?  I am a teacher and want to switch from using microsoft office on my macbook pro to using pages/number/keynote.  I am hoping to get an iPad next year and go "paperless" with lesson plans and gradebooks and I heard that pages/numbers/keynote are great on the ipad.  I'd like to write an automator script (workflow?) to convert all my documents in dropbox to pages and have them stored on iCloud, then be able to access the files on my macbook pro and ipad.  Thanks!

  • How to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

how to hide the file name (the bizarre number assigned by the camera) when exporting an image version in aperture from an album. Pl understand I want to keep the file name in the project library version.

Within Aperture you have Images, which are constructed on-the-fly from two files (the Master and the Version).  You get an image-format file _only_ when you export an Image.  You select the file name (usually a scheme) when you create an image-format file (that is, when you export).  Look under "Aperture→Presets→File Naming" for built-in Presets.  You can, of course, create your own or customize any provided.
The Preset is applied to only the file newly created by your "export" command.  It is not applied to the Image in Aperture (unless you rename your Versions or your Masters).
