Keep Time Codes in Final Output?

For various reasons I won't bore you with here, I want to show the time codes in my final output. I have them (audio and video) on the canvas, and it's exactly what I need, but I can't seem to permanently keep them with my video. They disappear when I play or export the video. Does anyone know of a way to keep the time codes on the screen somehow for final output? I'm using FCP 6.02 and my video is HD1080i50 if that helps.

I keep getting a dialogue box asking for my iCloud ID number on my Mac. I have to put it in several times before it finally accepts it. However, mu iCloud is working anyway.

I have a MacBook Pro, using Mavericks. A couple of days ago, a box keeps popping up asking for my iCloud ID. I have to put it in several times before it finally accepts my ID. However, when I just get frustrated and cancel it, my iCloud still works anyway. Is anyone else having this same problem?

If the setting is greyed out perhaps you have restrictions enabled that would prevent someone from changing accounts. Settings>General>Restrictions>Allow Changes>Accounts.

How to output a file showing visible time code from the source tape

Can someone tell me which settings to use to output a file that has a visible time code readout from the source tape. I shot an interview and now I want to make a video file for a transcriber so they can include the time code reference numbers from the source video on the written transcript. Also, does the file need to be output from the timeline, or can this be done directly from a clip in the project.

Hi,
You could try maybe selecting all your clips on the timeline and drag the "timecode" video effect onto it ( type the word timecode at the top of effect panel on left to find it fast )...
Then you can change it from smpte if you want -----to source or media ...something like that...or to 'generate'...use what you like best..
you can also change the codes position in the clip...

Final Cut Express Time Code Breaks At Random Intervals

Ok, so i use final cut to edit my videos that i use a Samsung miniDV cam to film. When i hook it up(through firewire) and start capturing footage, final cut tends to create time code breaks randomly, usually while i am in the middle of talking, so after the time code break search finishes, i end up loosing a few seconds of footage. Is there a way to get around the time code breaks, or does anyone know why this happens and has a solution(preferably the later). Thank you in advance.

I think the problem may be with the Samsung sc-d382 camera during taping. I have the same Samsung and the same problem. I also have a Canon gl2. I tried putting the Samsung-recorded tape into the canon and loading the tape into FCX that way. It still had time code breaks about every two minutes, never breaking at exactly the same time or frame count. Forty minutes of recording becomes 24 different little films. This does not happen on tapes recorded in my Canon gl2. Only on tapes recorded in the Samsung. I don't know if this info will prove helpful. For me, it proves frustrating.

Note that this plugin has been developed using the fxscript engine of FCE3. This might differ from FCE2. I have no way of knowing until you try it out. In which case it'll need tweaking and you'll have to work with me on that.

Output visible timeline time code thru firewire?

I shot a corporate video on DV tape and made a time code burn-in DVD so the client can give me an edit decision list, but the client is too busy so he wants me to cut down the original footage with a preliminary edit and get another DVD with time code burn in.
I want to output visible time code of captured clips on my timeline thru firewire to a DVCAM deck in FCP 4.5. I can view the time code in the canvas ("show time code overlays"), but is there a way to output (burn-in) visible time code back to tape?

It's a filter Timecode Generator or Timecode Reader, you'll want the TCReader.

TCReader will reference the originally captured clip timecode
TCGenerator will reference the TC of individual clips in the timeline (from start of each clip to end of each clip...each starting at 00:00:00:00), so if you want to reference one long TC from the timeline, you'd have to nest it first.

Final Cut Pro 5 doesn't capture when there's a break in time code

Hi,
I'm trying to capture a mini DV tape using "Capture Now". When it encounters a break in time code, FCP stops the deck and the capture -- which is what I want it to do -- but I don't get a media file in my Browser window or in the Capture Scratch folder of the footage that should have been captured up until the break. What could the problem be & what is my fix-it?

Check the settings in User Preferences (General tab). The "On timecode break:" popup menu should be set to "Make New Clip" or "Warn After Capture". If its set to "Abort Capture" nothing will be saved.

Keeping the time code from the source material

Hi - I have a camera that generates TC. I have it set to free run and the clock so that it records the actual time of the event as it takes place (doing this because it's meetings and such).
Problem is, when I import this footage (camera is AG-HMC40P by Panasonic) I'm not sure how I can display the footage time code in Premiere. Premiere just shows the numbers at all 00's as the source code.
Can someone explain to me what I need to do in Premiere to display the footage with its time code?

Actually, I may have spoken too soon. Do you have any experience with this filter? I downloaded it and installed it. It works to provide a localized time code, but I still can't figure out how to see the time code from the clip/sequence from the capture file. For example, I have a tape that I play back on my TRV310 and it says September 7, 2009 and gives me the time at the bottom of the on-cam display. However the filter you suggest never seems to pick that up, even if I tell it to use "Source Time Code" as a value for the "Timecodes" property. Any idea how to get that time/date code embedded in the file?

My Final Cut X changed behaviour after conneting the external monitor via HDMI. Several times after restarting Final Cut X was very slow and it always kept repeating rendering on same three clips after every restart. Later the dual screen icon disapeared on the top of my screen and it stops rendering on every restart like before and the machine was normal and faster. Now Final Cut won't start anymore whenever I start it loads and crushes immediately on every restart.

Speedgrade CS6 won't apply my Look in the final output

So I have this problem where I try to output a quick color graded version of my source footage, but the final output shows no difference. In other words, I import DSLR footage, make all the necessary adjustments (in this case I just applied a look that I saved previously) in SG then render it out as a ProRes 422. The ProRes version looks the same as my source (DSLR) footage (minus a few megabytes) and doesn't look as if my saved look was ever applied.
My Output settings are as follows: (NOTE: I have changed all of my output settings trying to solve this problem and, no dice. So I can only assume that it's not a problem with my output settings)
Output:
Format & Options = Apple ProRes 422. Automatic color calibration = Unchecked. Write ALE file to output path = Unchecked. Render annotations = Checked
Use the same burn-in as playback, No calibration lookup table, Time code source = Source
Framing:
Full Image (No Proxy). 1:1 (square). 1080p
Render
Offline Quality (fast).
My system specs are:
Mac Pro OS X 10.10.1 (Late 2013)
3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC
AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB

With your theory in mind of it being a permissions problem, I went ahead and moved my Looks from an external drive to my computer. Still no dice. Although, do you believe that it might need to be in a particular place on my computer? Like say, a SpeedGrade folder inside and Adobe folder inside my library folder? I don't see why that would matter. I found a rather time consuming fix. If I open the Look in After Effects, I can apply it to the video clip but that's just a little convoluted.
I'll keep searching for a solution and post any updates. Thanks for your help thus far!

I want to keep the Group1 the rtf file but do want not want to display in the output file.
Is there any setting for the item where we can hide the item from the final output but the item will be present in the rtf file.

Implementing a package can be a traumatic affair for both the customer and the vendor.   Get it wrong and the vendor may get paid late or have to resort to lawyers to get paid and tarnish their reputation.   For the company the new package may not work the way they expected, be late or cost a more than budgeted for and take management will take their eye off running their business.
Recently a client asked me what I would consider to be the five most important things one should consider before embarking on an implementation.   This isn't a simple question, although there are many factors to think about after some consideration for me the top five are way ahead of the others.
My top five factors to consider would be:
1. Set up a Project Board,
2. Secure the resources,
3. Complete the GAP Analysis,
4. Have detailed Cut Over Plans,
5. Train the users.
Taking each one in turn:
The Project Board
The correct set up and operation of the Project Board in my view is major factor in the success failure of the project.   The Project Board will consist of the stakeholders, key users and the vendor.   The Project Board is part of the governance of the project.   The Project Board will meet regularly to ensure that the project plans are created and being executed as planned, moves from stage to stage with all the deliverables being signed off is resourced properly.
The Resources
Three types of resources are absolutely necessary -- end users, change team and technicians.
Early involvement by the end users is absolutely necessary, as they will be the ones living with the system for hopefully many years to come.   They will want to feel involved in its implementation.   Buy in from the end users of the system is absolutely essential if the system is to have a long and stable life in any organisation.
The Change Team will identify the gaps between the package and the business requirements, re-engineer some of the businesses process to cope with the package, train the users to ensure implementation is smooth as possible into the business.
The Technical Team will prepare the systems environment for the package, apply any software fixes from the vendor, implement the software in the best way possible for the organisation set up and tune the software for the particular technical environment.
GAP Analysis
A through gap analysis will identify the gaps between how the business operates ad its needs against what the package can can't do.   For each gap there will be one of three outcomes which must be recorded and actioned, GAP must be closed and customised software can be developed close the gap, GAP must be closed but software cannot be written therefore a workaround is required, GAP does not need to be closed.
In simple terms: Gap means small cracks. In SAP world. In information technology, gap analysis is the study of the differences between two different information systems or applications( ex; existing system or legacy system with Client and new is SAP), often for the purpose of determining how to get from one state to a new state. A gap is sometimes spoken of as "the space between where we are and where we want to be." Gap analysis is undertaken as a means of bridging that space.
Actual gap analysis is time consuming and it plays vital role in blue print stage.
Cut Over Plans
Detailed plans need to be developed for cutting over from the old system(s) to the new.   Parallel runs of what will happen over the conversion period using test data, convert and watch for a period after wards to ensure nothing unexpected happens.
Train Users
Well trained users will support and defend the system on site. Unsupportive users will continually undermine the system and eventually it will be replaced.   Therefore the more effort you put into helping the users master the system early the better.
Difference between the User Exit & Gap analysis.
Both are quiet a different and has a small relation.
User exits are standard gate ways provided by SAP to exit the standard code and we can write our own code with the help of ABAP workbench.   its not new functionality which we are trying to build in sap but its slight enhancement within the same code.
Gap analysis is start point of Realization and once blue print is finished we have to find the realization of sap system for client requirment and there will be certain gaps when compared to system fit. Those gaps can be closed either by re-engineering of business process to fit with SAP or we have to use USER exits in case of small deviations or complete enhancements with the help of ABAP to fit with the SAP system.   *-- V. Real-Time Capture in Final Cut Express

Hi All -
I own a music venue, and we're considering adding video recording services (current we just offer audio). To reduce labor, I'm planning on a fixed mounted camera (brand/model TBD) from one of our lighting trusses (on the ceiling). We'd like to stream the video footage into a PowerMac and/or PowerBook in real time (presumably via a long firewire cable), thus avoiding the use of tapes, etc... So two questions:
1- Can Final Cut Express handle direct capture of video in Real Time? If so, are there any constraints, such as 7200 RPM harddrive, no HD, etc..., that I need to be aware of?
2- We plan to capture audio separately so that we can mix it in 16-track format in our ProTools HD studio. Will FCE work with a time code (SMTPE, etc...), or are there other prefer methods of keeping the sources in synch?
Any other thoughts from concert film masters would be appreciated! We're a small venue (150 person capacity) and will be using this mostly for student recitals and local bands - thus we need to be frugal and minimize the number of people needed to run it.

1. There are limitations to the length of FireWire cable data can be streamed. You might want to check up on this. FCE captures DV in realtime. You'll need a fast drive either in the computer or an external FW drive at least 7200rpm with 8MB cache.
