Keeping a personal diary/journal

I'm working on an exciting project and I want to document what happens every day. Is iCal the best format? If so, is there a special software for journal/diary writing? Thanks.

ark - 1,
I would recommend something like MacJournal : Mac journaling & Mac blog software., instead of iCal.

There is no need for seperate Apple IDs.
Connect the device to the computer.
Select what is desired to sync.

  • What is the best way to keep my personal files stored in iCloud separate from my work-related files?

What is the best way to keep my personal files stored in iCloud separate from my work-related files? It seems that I'm not allowed to link my iPad mini and my work iMac using two different accounts, so I'm wondering how to make my single personal account work for both, while keeping personal vs work files reasonably separated.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Is it possible for you to upgrade your account to iCloud Drive? That would mean, all Macs upgraded to Yosemite, and all mobile devices to iOS8?
See:  iCloud Drive FAQ and iCloud: About using iWork for iOS and iCloud
In iCloud Drive you could create two separate custom folders, one for work documents and one for private documents and organize your documents there.  Don't use the app specific folders (Keynote, Pages, Numbers, ...) , because you can only create one level of folders inside these folders.

  • How to keep my personal hotspot on always with no changes to off?

HI,i have two devices and i want to keep the personal hotspot on all the time. How do I have to keep the personal hotspot on all the time and not to be changed In case I want to track it? Thank you

If you are using the Music App, it should continue to play the songs while playing solitaire, unless the game app settings prevent it, which I really doubt.
Quit both apps - Music and Solitaire and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Try again and see if it works properly.

  • I need to work out how to put all my work contacts on iCloud but keep my personal contacts on my phone, any ideas?

Hi fellow apple munchers, I need to keep my personal contacts off iCloud and separated from my work ones which I'd like to share on iCloud with workmates but I can't find an option to do that, please help!

    Hello App Muncher,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. This can be done by having the contacts imported into iCloud that you want, the following up with a sync with iTunes for the personal contacts. You can import the contacts directly into the iCloud website. The first article will go over importing the contacts into iCloud.com.

These articles will go over the contact sync with iTunes depending on your Operating System.

  • 'My Personal Diary' App

    Hi
I had recently installed the app 'My Personal Diary' in my BlackBerry Bold 9780. I had found the product very good, user friendly and convenient. Since I liked it quite a lot, I started using it extensively and a lot of my data was entered into it. So far so good.
Recently I had to reload the OS 6 on my BB 9780 and prior to that I had backed up EVERYTHING through the BB Desktop software on my PC. After reloading the OS 6, I restored all that I'd backed up. But now I find that though the app 'My Personal Diary' has been restored, all the data which was inside it has vanished! Where has it gone? Can I restore only that in some way? Please help.
    Regards,
    Machax

Is "My Personal Diary" app saving data on your phone, SD card or through the web via the vendor's server?

  • IDCS3 DIary/Journal - Adding dates

I've hunted and hunted and now I've come to asking help, I have already a small calendar and calendar based pages from Exchange but I'm struggling to find anything to help me, I want to create a diary/journal but I don't know how to add all dates for a year on each page, can this be done in ID?

Actually, your best bet is probably to get an InDesign Calender Script. There's quite a few good ones out there.
Most of these scripts will automatically generate a calender grid, a page for each month, and automatically input the correct day number on the correct day of the week.

  • Diary / journal app

I'm looking for an droid app similar to the Iphones MOMENTO - its a journal diary app that connects my journal entries w/ my photos, my facebook profiles, it has tagging capability, rate moments, backup and export.  Any suggestions welcomed.

Someone will eventually mention Evernote, might as well be me. Evernote is a pretty universal note-taking app, works across pretty much all platforms including Mac, iOS, and has a web interface as well. You can get plugins for specific tasks, not sure if a diary plugin is out there. You can include photos, pdf's, webpages pretty much whatever external content you would like.
I use Evernote for everything from storing important files to keeping my daily journals.
Yes, it is free in the basic version which should handle your journalling needs, you can buy an upgraded version with more storage and bandwidth if you got to that point.

  • My employer is issuing an iPad 4 to me, but has informed me that I "...can expect no privacey" of any personal information that may be put on the iPad. This is not acceptable to me. How can I use iTunes to keep my personal information off the iPad?

My employer is issuing an iPad 4 to me, but has informed me that "...I can expect no privacy" with regard to any information on it. What has me concerned is that my employer has also requested that I use my Persoanl iTunes account to syc and update the iPad.  I am concerend with my personal privacey, as I have two other iPads that use this account regualary.
My question is: How can I use iTunes to update etc. the company iPad using iTunes without compromising my personal information?
What I have done is to set up a different sign in (is that called an Apple ID?) within iTunes (I now have two different names I can use to sign in to iTunes). They both still use the same iTunes and my personal apps and information appear to be available to my second sign in name (the second sign in name is what I intend to use for the company iPad). When I sync the company iPad how do/can I keep my persoanl information from being syc'd automatically to the comapany iPad?

    Hi herbie13!
It sounds like you will still want to link your iPad and computer, but you want to prevent the iPad from syncing information from your computer to your iPad. I have an article here for you that can help tell you how to set this up:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
You will want to follow the steps here to set up the iPad for syncing, but when it comes time to sync, you'll just want to make sure that the boxes for syncing the multitude of items that you can sync remain unchecked so that none of that information gets synced into the iPad.
Another note: your second Apple ID will not be able to access the apps, music, movies, tv shows, etc., that you have purchased under your primary Apple ID. Even though it seems that the secondary Apple ID still has access to those items, that is just because you are viewing your second Apple ID through the iTunes Store section on your computer and you have those items saved locally on your computer. You will need to repurchase and download all of the content that you wish to use again on your second Apple ID, if that is what you wish to solely use on this iPad.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • How do I reinstall Yosemite while keeping my personal files & settings?

    Hi,
I am running Yosemite (10.10.2) on my 2013 Macbook Air and its in need of some love. Most notably, my Notes app has broken (it crashes on every attempt to open it) and my bluetooth has gone haywire (device detection and personal hotspot works when they feel like it), my display will randomly go black and is becoming an increasingly mysterious and lengthy process to get it back (normally just mashing keys and opening and closing the lid several times over). Thats just the half of it.
I want to say the mass majority of these issues began after signing myself up to receive all these alpha, beta, omega, apple tree pre-seed, under-cooked releases or whatever apple pushes down the pipeline. Needless to say, I feel its time to reinstall my OS though I am quickly discovering that this whole process was significantly easier in a Windows environment which seems really counter-intuitive considering well, this is Apple and things are just supposed to work like magical butter.
So I ended up reinstalling Yosemite through the Recovery Utility (CMD+R). It downloaded from the internet and installed. My personal files were kept intact but it didn't fix my Notes app as it still kept quitting unexpectedly when trying to launch it. So I opted to perform a clean install. I quickly realized this was a TERRIBLE idea as I was unable to recover important settings like my keychain passwords, my email accounts and so forth. Thankfully I made a time machine backup before attempting any of this so I am right back where I started (sort of).
    I need some help please.
My goal is to perform a clean install of Yosemite to rid myself of these OS oddities meanwhile keeping everything important. This includes, most notably:
my personal document, photo and music files
    my iTunes library
my iPhoto library (and more importantly, the settings, albums tags, image edits etc etc) that I've made over the years
    my keychain passwords
my email accounts (it took me almost an hour to setup and properly configure all 9 of my email accounts and i don't want to go through that again)
my calendar and events within it
Other settings I would like to keep, but am willing to sacrifice are:
    my iMessage history
    my applications
my user experience settings; things like the dock size and behaviour, track pad scroll speed etc etc etc. I'm on the fence with this one since I've plugged in so much sudo code into terminal trying to accomplish things in the past, that I fear theres some settings that shouldn't be restored.
So Apple community, what say thee; what is my best course of action?
    Thank you,
    -Brendon

Oh boy... throughout all of this i think I've really done a number. In trying to execute the instructions in the link you provided, I receive this error while trying to access my internet accounts panel under system preferences:
    "Preferences Error
Could not load Internet Accounts preference pane."
    What have I done lol...

  • 5 ways to keep your personal data safe on your smartphone

Keeping your smartphone safe can mean more than just ensuring it doesn’t fall into a toilet or hard concrete and meet an untimely death. It also means taking proper steps to protect the data—your personal data—stored on that phone to keep the wrong people away from it. If smartphone security is a concern of yours, then you may want to consider these methods for ramping your privacy and protecting what’s yours.

ICE contacts are a wonderful thing....provided you don't password lock your device. If your phone is locked, someone finding your phone won't be able to see your contacts, let alone find your ICE one(s). Fortunately for me (and the few remaining BlackBerry users out there) I can put a message on my lock screen, which I have used to put the emergency contact numbers for my wife.  JB

  • Personal iPads in the enterprise - keeping work/personal apps separate

    Hi All,
I work in IT for a school district.  Recently, we got a grant for iPad training.  As part of that training, every teacher that attended the classes was given an iPad.  The problem is, that because of the way the grant was structured, the iPads ended up belonging to the teachers personally instead of belonging to the school district.  Since all these teachers now own their own iPads, we do not want to spend the money to buy them a second "work" iPad.
I am trying to come up with a solution that allows those teachers to use their own iPads in our school environment.  Specifically, I am looking for a way to be able to purchase needed iPad apps with school funds, install them on the users' personal ipads, but prevent the user from backing up/syncing those apps with their home Mac/PC.
The best idea we have come up with so far is to create a generic Apple ID for each teacher, such as "schoolname-01", "schoolname-02", etc.  The school's IT department would then be the only ones who would have the passwords for those accounts.  The IT department would then download and install the school owned apps on the teachers' personal iPads using one of the generic "schoolname-xx" accounts.  The theory is that the iPad registers and stores the Apple ID used to purchase each app, so we will be able to tell what apps are bought with school money and what apps are bought by the teacher for personal use.
Obviously, this is not an ideal solution, but we haven't been able to come up with a better one.  The biggest question we have is this:  each of these personal iPads is going to be sync'd with the teacher's home Mac/PC.  Since the home Mac/PC will not be authorized for the generic "schoolnamexx" Apple ID that was used to install the school apps,  will that mean that only the teacher's personal apps will be backed up when they sync with iTunes, or will iTunes back up every app, regaurdless of what Apple ID was used to purchase it?
Also, since an iPad can only sync with one Mac/PC, how can we back up the apps purchased with school funds?  Theoretically, we can re-download them from the app store, but only so long as they are still available for sale.
I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has had success integrating personal iPads into a work environment.

    Hi gyrhead,
Thanks for the information.  I understand that the teachers will not be able to transfer app purchases from the school Apple ID to their personal Apple ID.  The concern we have is this:  what do we do when a teacher with a personal iPad with school software on it leaves the district?  I know we can re-download the software purchased with the school Apple ID onto a new iPad, but how do we get the school software off the teachers iPad?
If a teacher leaves under bad circumstances, there is not much hope that we will be able to remove the software from their iPad.  If their is a solution to remotely wipe apps installed under a specific Apple ID I would love to know about it.
However, if a teacher leaves and it is an amicable parting, we are hoping that the teacher will allow us to remove the school software from their iPad.  However, even if we remove the software from the iPad, couldn't the teacher just restore it from their home Mac/PC?  If the teacher syncs his/her iPad to their home computer, will it back up just the apps purchased under their personal Apple ID or will it also back up the apps purchased under the school Apple ID as well?  If it is the latter, then I don't see how we could prevent the teacher from reinstalling the school apps, even after we remove them from the iPad.
As long as the school can still install the apps it purchased on a new iPad, that last issue is not a huge concern for me.  However, the upper management/legal guys want to know the answer to this one.

  • I can't get my contacts from email, I keep getting Personas Plus popup. What do I do?

Shortly after I last updated firefox, I noticed several things that were different. One, my tabs are now above the URL line. I want them under all the rows on top. I also get alerts that I can't see because when I run over it with the mouse it come down and as soon as I try to click on it it recedes. Lastly, the thing that bothers me most is when I go to forward an email, I get the contact list for a split second and then an add for Personas Plus pops up; sometimes with one or two other adds of things I checked out recently. And I can't reach my contacts. I tried to install Personan Plus but I don't think I did. and now it pops up that I need to register every time I am trying to get a different thing to pop up. Worse, the URL says that I'm where I should be; in contacts or whatever, but that's not whats on the screen. And when I close out the window, it tells me I have several tabs open. I can't work with it this way. I tried to delete cookies and history and everything else I could think of to get rid of it. It won't go away. My work depends on my laptop working as it should. Diane

Same exact thing and I'm glad its not just me (but sorry for all who are experiencing it).  Maybe their mail system is down.  It'd be great if they would give us some sort of heads up.

  • [xfce4]howto keep the personalized theme ?

I've got Arch Linux installed on 6 PCs for an association.
We customized xfce4 the best we could, then everything is gone as soon as it gets upgraded (yesterday to 4.2.3-1).
The way we changed the splash screen is dirty, as for now we simply edited /opt/xfce4/share/themes/ArchLinux/balou/themerr and created an image to replace original
I've had no time enough to go deep into xfce4 documentation, but basically, what are the best way to keep our xfce4's customization when updating :
    - Create a custom theme (splash, xfwm4), then manually configuring the PCs one by one ?
    - Create a xfce4 package with special theme files ?
    - Some other way ?
    Thank you for your advice

that's what god (tm) invenetd the ~/.themes folder for
    copy your theme to:
    ~/.themes/<themename>/balou/
under this folder should be the png and the themerc file
