Keeping all my apps regardless of where I purchase

I have a 3Gs phone, macbook and imac within my circle of use. I routinely find and purchase apps for my phone in each one of those locations. How do I get all my apps onto my phone instead of having them erase what ever might be different between my macbook and imac.
I should not have to repurchase the app on two machines just so I can have it in one spot.
I thought once I register the phone on each machine that it allows me to use what is on either one?
This seems to be a big fault, how can I fix/

You can do what you're trying to do if you're careful. You can right-click on your phone in iTunes to "Transfer Purchases" to that computer even if they weren't bought on that computer(iPhone or another computer). Then you can sync your iPhone with that computer with the "All Applications" option in Sync preferences to get any new ones you bought on that computer. When you go to your other computer, just make sure to "Transfer Purchases" there before you sync "All Applications" again.
The iPhone itself can only be "linked" to one computer's apps at a time, but as long as that computer is one of your 5 authorized machines, you should be able to transfer apps (and other purchases) to them before re-linking your iPhone to the new computer's apps.

I have just bought a mini ipad for my daughter and used my apple id to set it up for her so she can keep all her apps and downloads of my ipad that she was using, i was wondering how do i give her, her own apple id so that she can keep all her apps and then i can two seperate accounts ?

You cannot transfer the purchases to another account. What she has purchased with your account will always be tied to your ID. That's the way that it works. You can have her create her own Apple ID to use with Cloud account, FaceTime and Messages.
But if you create a new ID for her, she will have to flip flop between the two Apple ID's in order to update apps, and if she wants to make purchases with her own ID, you also have to consider the fact that she may run the risk of locking herself out of her own ID by downloading a past purchase using your ID, after she starts buying with her own ID.

    Hey linfrommi,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are having trouble locating some application after the update to iOS 7. To troubleshoot this issue, let’s reset the home screen layout of your iPhone, which should move all of your applications to the second “page”:

You cannot use someone else's apps without violating the license agreement. The apps are tied to the owner (via Apple ID). The right thing to do would be to update and start fresh.

  • I am a new user and my Iphone sound stopped. The Verizon store could not fix it so a new Iphone has arrived.  What do I do to keep all the apps I have on the phone? Can I transition them somehow to my new Iphone or do I start all over?

I am a new Iphone user so I am going to sound very dumb. The sound in my phone stopped working for some unknown reason about a month in. Verizon could not fix so a new phone was sent. I sit here with my current soundless Iphone and the new one. The guy at Verizon moved my contacts over but what can I do to get all the apps I downloaded to be on my new Iphone before I send the current one back? He said something about downloading something on the my PC (not a mac) and then restoring from the PC to the new phone.  Where do I start getting the stuff downloaded from my current soundless phone to the PC?

  • HT204053 Can create a new icloud account on my iphone and keep all my apps and data?

would like to create a new icloud account but keep all apps and data on my iphone from other account  has anybody done that?

You can not transfer apps (or any other item except data) from one account to another, you will need to use the old account in order to update anything bought or downloaded from it.
For the data just save it all back to your Mac and then migrate it to the new account.

    - You can always redownload apps amd some other iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - Try here to get the iPod working again.  The pocess may result in erasing the iPod. But you may have a hardware problem and may not get it working.

  • Can I keep all my apps on an external hard drive?

My MacBook Air has 64GB of flash storage and I recently purchased a 500GB G-Drive external hard drive.  I was hoping to free up the installed flash drive since I show about 19GB of Apps on it.  It won't go over and now Time Machine is not backing up all my photos and music to the external.  I figured I paid for them, I should be able to save them as I see fit and not have them stuck on my flash drive.  What gives?

Your problem(s) could be caused by a number of different issues. I suspect that the reason you can't copy the applications over to your external drive is a permission's problem. I selected my external drive and then chose File>Get Info from the menu. You should do the same.
The above is what I see after the GetInfo. I clicked on all the triangles to make the picture smaller because what I want to point out is at the bottom. In the bottom right hand corner is a lock. I clicked that and then typed in my password. Then in the bottom left is the Ignore ownership on this volume checkmark. I clicked on it so ownership is ignored. This lets me put files on the drive reguardless of who owns the files. I suspect your external drive doesn't have this option checkmarked.
Now, having fixed this problem (I hope) I urge you to be very careful about putting applications there. I have two hard fast rules: 1) never move any program when it comes with an installer and 2) never move any program I buy from the App Store. The reason is simple: when these programs receive updates the programs are expected to be where they were originally placed and the updater doesn't look for them. Consequently your programs aren't updated and sometimes odd 'gifts' are placed in your Applications folder.
However, many programs come in DMG packages and you drag them to your applications folder to install them. These can be safely moved anywhere you'd like to. Usually, but not always. Even with these programs, some have dumb updaters that won't work properly and some mysteriously stop working if you move them.
It is best to move data not applications. Movies (and other video), music, and photos are the best choices since they tend to be large files.
You also indicated that TimeMachine isn't backing up all your photos and music any longer. Are the files all in one place? In other words, is the music being backed up and the music not being backed up all on the same hard drive? I have a suspician they aren't but I want to confirm that first.

  • Reinsall fresh OSX keeping all files, apps and settings

I am getting ready to install a fresh copy of OSX 10.9 for a friend on her i mac.  She has 480gb of data mostly doc's and photos and apps.  The os has become very sluggish and is freezing when opening some apps and has become very slow.  I want to verify the correct way to reinstall the OS without losing any of her files.
Now first off as a precaution I have made a full Time Machine backup in-case something goes wrong.  To reinstall the OS I will boot into the recovery partition and just simply reinstall the OS and it will replace the entire OS files but not affect any personal files, apps settings .. Correct ?
Thanks for any help with this issue.

  • How do I keep all my documents in iBooks that were purchased from on line store not at the iTunes Store. (Ver 7 has screwed up iBooks and it no longer works)

I have hundreds of 3rd party purchased lists and legal documents I keep in Ibooks. Since upgrading to version
7 iBooks only opens for a few seconds then closes any open document and kicks me all the way out of iBooks
How do I keep these and reload ibooks ? I am 500 miles from my main PC and need thee forms now.

The iPad is not new. It is almost 2 yrs old. Many of the documents are legal documents, legal journals text books etc that have a 30 day limit on downloads and that time period has expired. Your post suggested closing all applications and forcing a power down. That I have done several times. I have not restored the software as that would require deleting the contents. Not all the files are backed up and the ones that are, reside on my personal laptop that is states away and will be for at least a week and I need the data now.

  • My Apple ID is my e-mail address.  If I have a new e-mail address and want to use this address instead will I loose all my apps that I have already purchased?

I want to change my e-mail address due to my having a new Internet provider.  I used my old e-mail address as my Apple ID to get on the App Store, iTunes Store and iCloud.  Will I still be able to download my old purchases if I lose them when I switch addresses?

go to id.apple.com, manage ur apple id, sign in, change primary email to the new one. this will change ur apple id to the new email address and ull get to keep ur purchases

  • Do you store all your apps in your library?

i have a rather large amount of apps in my library - around 230. some are a tad large in size, others not. i do sync quite a bit to my iPhone but of course not all. so, i have stored others in my library in case i want to sync them at a later time. so...
question: do you keep all your apps in your library? are we supposed to keep them all in our library or can we delete them and somehow retrieve them later on when we want to resync them to our iPhone?

You should always keep a copy locally. If you delete the app and the app is taken off by the developer then you can't re-download since it's no longer available. Another example is the app is updated and you are stuck with an older IOS and the older app version is gone.
