Keeping backups of application data and migrations to new ipod?

I'm planning to share an iPod Touch with my younger brother since I so rarely use it so I'm barely familiar with basic usage. I want him to have his own account separate from mine, but I would like to be able to backup his data and restore my data when the time comes. The iPod should either only have his data or mine, but obviously not both. I might even buy myself a new ipod touch or migrate to an iPhone.
So the question is:
a) Does backups take backup of application data such as save games and application settings?
b) Can I restore all the applications, app data, game saves, music and video to another ipod touch/iphone in the future? i.e. migrate to another device?
c) How do I backup the backup? i.e. if I keep this backup on my PC (Windows) and need to wipe the computer clean and re-install Windows. How do I retain the iTunes backup data?
d) How do I perform the backup? Yeah, I literally used the iTunes application a dusin times at most, so have little clue how to operate it.
Please help, since I'm not familiar with my own iPod Touch!

Having arranged some scanned pictures in an album in I-Photo how can I keep them in the order I have chosen when I move the album. They all have the scan date and not the taken date and move to new positions if I move them from one album to another.
Is there any way to re-number them in the order I have chosen so that they can then be sorted by number? The scans are all from pre-digital images that I wish to move to a photobook and I don't want to have to organise them twice!
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I was a bit short, Chris, sorry. It is limited, what can be posted, when typing on an iPad.
Now I am back on my Mac. I meant the following:  Batch Change the date for a large range of photos, that should have a date stepped in increments.
Select all Photos at once and use the command "Photos > Batch Change".
Then set the date for the first photo and select an increment, e.g. one minute.
Now all photos will get a new date assigned, incremented by one minute, in the sequence you have selected. So you will be able to sort them by date.  This way it will be unnecessary to change the titles or filenames.

  • Interaction about applications data and notification timeout

    Hi Experts,
I have an issue about a workflow that the reminder notifications be sent every day, the workflow stage has a property "Days to Respond", the workflow can sent the reminder notifications by the value before, but it sent the reminder notifications every day now, regardless the property value.
The reminder notifications has timeout attribute "RESPONSE_TIMEOUT", the Note:1053545.1 output shows that the attribute value is 365, the due_date of wf_notifications shows that it equals the next day of begin_date.
I try to find the interaction of application data and the workflow Notification node timeout, but I didn't find any clue in the workflow developer guide, or the admin guide.
What's the mechanism of application data and workflow? ("Days to Respond" value with the Notification node timeout) Could anyone point the clue of the issue?
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Tsinhua.

The "Days to Respond" will be set to the workflow attribute "RESPONSE_TIMEOUT" if the attribute value is null, it be set by the post-function of a node.
As customer set the workflow attribute value "RESPONSE_TIMEOUT" as 365, so the "Days to Respond" value is discarded yet, the notification reminder must be timeoutted in one day.

I did a clear data and reset on my ipod touch and upon restart it is frozen. How do I fix it? I have already done the ten second hold restart with the top button and bottom button, but it still freezes. What should I do?

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Each time master data full load removes previous data and load with new ?

We load company code (0COMP_CODE) master data (full load).
1st day, we check company code master data, the record count is 150, 2nd day, the record count is 90.  It sounds like the master data full load each time would clean the previous data and load with new data, am I right?  If what I guess is right, then what setup is controlling this?
    Thanks

I dont think it does cleanup.
MD records in the new load simply overwrite the records already present in the master data.
I mean if same record comes again its overwritten. If new record it gets added.
I wouldnt expect number of records to reduce drastically from 150 to 90.
Maybe before MD activation records could be more(as there will be both M(modified) and A(active) records).
    cheers,

Is there any shop in texas ,austin where we can replace an old ipod touch 3G and get a new ipod touch 4G ??
    pls help mee

Sorry but I am pretty sure there isn't a shop which offers such a service.
Apple stores offer a 14 day remorse period where you can return a purchase for a full refund without having to give a reason however this has probably expired - unless you bought from a different store with a similar system which you still happen to be within the time limit for.
Your best bet would be to sell your iPod 3G and put the money towards a new one. If you are having trouble selling it an Apple store will take it and give you 10% off a new iPod.

  • My 2 TB Time Capsule's memory is full because it will not automatically delete old files as it is supposed to, so it is giving me zero backup of my two computers now.  How can this be fixed so my Time Capsule deletes the old data and saves the new?

My 2 TB Time Capsule’s memory is full because it will notautomatically delete old files as it is supposed to, so it is giving me zerobackup of my two computers now. How can this be fixed so my Time Capsule deletes the old data and savesthe new?
Neither my local computer consultant nor I have been ableto change any of the settings in Time Machine to correct this problem.  Working with the choices in the TimeMachine, there does not appear that there is any way to change the frequency ofthe backups either, so, after a year has elapsed, the time capsule is full, andmy only choice appears to be to erase all the current data on the Time Capsuleand start over, something that I do not want to at all let alone repeat on anannual basis.  My questions are:
What can be done to have my Time Capsule delete old filesas it is supposed to do, so it has memory available to allow my computers toback up?
Is this a software problem that can be fixed online or isdoes this require a mechanical fix of defective hardware?

How much data is being backed-up from each Mac?  (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room.  Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't.  Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).

  • How to back up saved application data when moving to new iPhone?

So I've done a fairly extensive search on google trying to figure out how to backup not just my apps, but the saved data within them as well. Most of the stuff I'm finding requires jailbreaking or many steps. I'm coming here to post to see if there is an 'easy' way to do this by now..
I mean you back up your old iPhone through iTunes but from what I'm hearing that does not save the application data? I don't understand how this was not put in, especially considering how the iPhone is made to look like such a great portable gaming device, in which many save your progress along the way..
For example, I have peggle on my iPhone 3G and have been playing it a little bit here and there for a little more than a year and have 100% completed on most levels. I don't want to lose all that, you know?
So anyways, is there any simple way to do this yet? If not, what's the simplest way to go about doing this?
    Thanks!

Thank you for responding... I wonder then why so many posts are regarding this online...
So all I need to do is back up my 3G iPhone in iTunes, and then just restore from backup with the iPhone 4 and all my saved data and stuff will remain? Cool!

  • Moving IPhoto 08 to internal hard drive - and migration to new?

We have 2 users on the Mac. What is the best way to move IPhoto to an internal hard disk? Don't want to have any permissions issues or create a 2nd copy of the application.
It was suggested to simply drag and drop from the applications to the 2nd hard-drive. Will both users be able to see it and/or is there an even better way?
Getting ready to migrate to our IMAC. I assume we need to partition the hard drive of the other MAC before we migrate so it will see the 2nd drive with IPHOTO?
    Please help and Thanks!

Actually, I was told that I should move IPhoto to an external disk for safekeeping and future growth.
An iPhoto installation has two parts. In your Applications folder there is iPhoto.app. This is the software. It doesn’t change size. It never needs to move from the Applications folder and can cause problems if you do.
The second part of an iPhoto installation is the +iPhoto Library+. This includes all your Photos, the various database and support files. This can grow as you add more and more photos to it.
It's the Library that you need to make a back up for. iTunes works in the same way.
By default, the iPhoto Library is in your Pictures Folder. The iTunes Library is in your Music Folder.
Am I correct in assuming it would be safer and wiser to use an external drive for IPhoto/ITunes?
It makes no difference. It certainly makes sense if the disk is filling up, but that's a disk space issue rather than an iPhoto/iTunes issue.
There is nothing to be gained from partitioning the new Machine. FIles on another partition are not a back up.
To move an iPhoto Library: Make sure the disk is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    To +migrate to a new Machine+
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
    Regards
    TD
