Keeping certain tracks together in Shuffle mode

I have some live music (would like to import it in AAF format) that is tracked but I want to keep certain tracks together as "one track" when in shuffle mode.  I don't mind if I need to make a new second track that is this one long connected track, but need an easy way to do it so that it sounds seamless.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this would be seamless enough for your needs, but try using Groups. You can assign tracks to a group be using the "Get Info" window (cmd+I) info tab to assign a grouping.
To choose whether iTunes shuffles by songs, albums, or groupings, choose Controls > Shuffle > [Option].
If you select “by Albums” or “by Groupings,” iTunes plays the songs in the order in which they appear on the album or in the grouping, and then chooses another album or grouping at random.

OK... I know the workaround of keeping tracks together when importing a CD, but how do I do this with songs downloaded from iTMS?
I'd like to create a shuffle list, but some tracks should always be intros to other tracks.

  • How to keep tracks together in shuffle mode?

When playing in shuffle mode you can't hear tracks in line together while they should be, e.g. in conceptalbums.
Is there a way to overcome this?
(You can do it with complete albums when downloading in the Library, but what can you do when the tracks are already in the Library?)

The second tab is calles 'Info' as well. Down under you have the possibilty to mark Part of a collection (Deel van verzameling). It should do the trick but it doesn't. I once tried, but I haven't found out what it does.
In English, that is named as "Part of a compilation" and Google Translates that as "Deel van een compilatie". As far as iTunes is concerned, this means that the album has songs by different artists, albums such as the "Now X" series. It is how iTunes keeps a Various Artists album together.

I want to shuffle works, not tracks..
Ah! I see what you want now!
Two possibilities that I can think of (number 2 is the better one):
Create a Playlist for each "work", by simply adding all the songs from one work to one Playlist and all songs from the next work to another Playlist and so on. Then, if you want to play one complete work, followed by another complete work, you could simply create a further Playlist and add each "work Playlist" you want to this new Playlist. To make the works random, all you could do is choose for yourself as you are adding them. You would need to play this new Playlist in order, not shuffle.
If you originally imported this music from a CD, you could import from the CD again. But this time, combine the tracks that make up one work, as one track. iTunes names this as "Join CD Tracks" (or CD-tracks samenvoegen in the Dutch iTunes).
In the screenshot above, I have selected tracks one, two and three and then used the options menu to find Join CD Tracks. This third option will not be visible until you select two or more adjacent tracks, as shown above.
In the screenshot below, I have joined tracks one, two and three as one "work". Then joined tracks four, five and six as a separate work. Finally, I've joined tracks seven through twelve as a third work.
Notice in the screenshot that the Options menu says "Unjoin CD Tracks". That is because the highlighted ones (7-12) are currently joined.
And here it is in Dutch:
With this second method, a work (of several tracks) will always be played as one track (or song). You can then simply add all the individual works to one Playlist, and play the Playlist in Shuffle Songs mode. That way, each work would be played in full, followed, at random, by another work.)
And if you really need to - import the CD this second time with a slightly different album name, so that you then have two copies. One, where each song (or track) is the individual song on the album and the second where each "song" is a work.
Now, lets hope I can get my iTunes back into "English" English, as my Dutch is not too good, even though I'm just the other side of the North Sea from you!

  • Keeping tracks together when shuffling

I want to keep certain tracks together when listening in shuffle mode (for example The Four Seasons). I thought this was what the groupings was for, but it doesn't seem to have that effect. Is there any way of doing this?

You would need to physically link the songs together to prevent them being separated during shuffle. You could rip the tracks over again from the original CD using "Join CD Tracks" from the Advanced menu when you are importing: Adding Content to iTunes
You can also have a look at Doug's iTunes scripts for this script which will join tracks after they've been imported Note: This script allows you to join any two (or more) MP3 tracks (it doesn't join other formats), provided that they are the same format and bit rate: Track Splicer
Doug also has this shareware program you might find useful (this will join AAC tracks as long as they are not ITunes Store copy protected versions): Join Together

  • Is it possible to keep certain emails together in a folder in mac mail

is it possible to keep certain emails together in a separate folder in mac mail?
I have a variety of e-mails pertaining to a particular subject that I would like to keep together.
    Thanks in advance

Yes.  Create a new mailbox folder for On My Mac via the Mailbox ➙ New Mailbox menu option.
Name it, select the emails you want to group and drag to the mailbox in the left hand pane of Mail.
In addition you can create a New Smart Mailbox Folder with as many conditions needed to gather the various emails into it.
You will have to move the emails out of the In box to full time storage mailbox created above.

  • Keping multi-part songs together in Shuffle mode

Songs consisting of more parts and therefore files are interrupted suddenly when you use the shuffle mode to play parts or all of your library/collection. Is there a way to solve this, e.g. in iTunes or bij melting the song parts together.
Or is there another program with which you can do this?
    laptop   Windows XP

it's possible to do, but it involves reimporting those songs as a single track, using "advanced > join CD tracks".

  • Random playing, but keeping certain songs together

Is it possible to have certain songs remain together (like Queen's "We Will Rock You" with "We Are The Champions") when playing in a random order?
iTunes plays songs with a cross fade, can the iPod play the songs the same way?

As Chris said, you can re-rip or join the tracks. You can also assign the same Group field to both tracks and select "Shuffle Groupings" in preferences, though I'm not sure this will carry over to the iPod.

  • Keeping album tracks together

This topic is a little hard for me to explain but I'll try my best.
I'm cleaning my library and found a couple of songs I wanted to put together in one album, three tracks from the Jet Set Radio game on Xbox. So I put them all in an album called Jet Set Radio. Trouble is when I view it in either Grid or Cover Flow mode, it separates one of the tracks out as an album called J.S.R, then the other two tracks together in a second album called J.S.R. The weird thing is, two of the tracks are by Artist A and one of them is Artist B. But it's taken one of the Artist A tracks and put it in the solo album, them lumped A and B together in the second. If that makes sense...
I've tried EVERYTHING to meld the three together. They're under the same folder in the library, they all have the same cover art, marking then a compilation, marking them a gapless album...they all have the same information in every field, expect for the track title and the artist fields.
    What have I done wrong?

Fixed it. Had to scrutinize every track listed + the info to find the little blip.

  • Can songs be made to play together in shuffle mode?

Some songs are intended to play together like "Golden Slumbers" and "Carry That Weight" or "Moving in Stereo" and "All Mixed Up" and it drives me bananas when you get the first but not the second!
Is there any way to make it so songs play back to back in shuffle like they do when you listen to the album in order?

  • Keeping certain tracks separate

How can I add a language-learning CD to my iTunes Library, sync it to my iPod as a separate album or playlist (i.e., not mixed in with all my music) and then delete it from my iTunes library on my laptop?  Tried it once, but the language lessons got alphabetically sorted in with my music and artists ... and came on when I put my music on Shuffle.
Also, slightly different point  -  how can I uncheck an entire list of songs (e.g., inn my Library, where they all appear checked) so that I can move selected ones to different playlists.  It takes forever to uncheck them all individually in order to select a few.

  • My Ipod Nano keeps repeating songs while in shuffle mode

As the thread title states. My settings are on for shuffle when I shake my ipod, but thre same song repeats itself unless I fast forward to the next song.Which then repeats itself.Any help would be very much appreciated..

Have you got the settings on iTunes to how you want? Often the iPod carries over these settings. If you are not aware of the second music menu when you are playing music, it has the shuffle icon, repeat icon and Genius icon. You have to tap whilst looking at an album cover, and then slide to the side to get to it. If that isnt the case, in settings, there is a section where it asks you what you would like to shuffle, songs, artists, albums or whatnot. You may want to switch that off.

  • Keeping certain songs from shuffling

Is there any way to keep certain tracks from being shuffled. For example: can i make it so only music gets shuffled, and comedy doesn't?
    Thanks.

Sorry...that one I don't know. I suggest you repost with a new topic. Maybe someone else will have the answer.

  • Keeping certain songs in order when shuffling a playlist

Is there a way to keep certain tracks in a playlist in order when shuffling the rest of the playlist?
For instance, Pure Prairie League -- "Falling in and out of love" & "Amie".
Or most of the end of The Beatles Abbey Road CD???

  • Sequential songs in Shuffle mode?

I have several songs with intros on another track, is there a way I can make them play in sequence as one track when in Shuffle mode?

Same problem here to an extent. Some info:
    First iteration iPod shuffle 3G
    iPod firmware 1.1
    iTunes 9.0.3 on Windows XP
I started out with one big playlist like I used to use on my previous shuffle, this played in order.
I loaded multiple (many, actually) playlists and also added music by artist, this seemed to negate the playlists that were on there. The playlist menu only says "All Songs" now. Songs don't play in order even with the switch in the "in order" position. Mayhem in other words.
So I removed everything that wasn't a playlist, and now I'm back to having playlists again and songs do play in order.
Logic seems to say that if you add music that isn't part of a playlist, it does 2 things:
    1. You can't scroll through playlists anymore because they don't show up in the menu (it just says "All Songs").
    2. Songs don't play in order.
Not a super duper good start with this one, maybe it will get fixed at some point though... Or maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Despite the name "shuffle", I do want to listen to songs in order as they show up on albums.
