Keeping data on graph once while loop exits

Hi, I have the attached vi where I am reading in Bluetooth data, plotting and saving the data. My inner while loop is the one performing the plotting, where I have the error out of the Bluetooth Read function wired to the boolean control of the loop. If for some reason the connection gets distrupted, the loop exits and the BT automatically reconnects.  The problem here is that one the inner loop stops, the graph plotting the data clears.  I am looking for a way to keep the data plotted on the graph, so once the connection is lost and reconneted again, the data continues plotting from where the connection was lost.  I cannot figure out how to do this, I tried to use local variables to plot the data outside the graph while the loop is running but that didn't work. Can somene provide me assistance?

  • Real time waveform graph in while loop

    Hi
I have a VI which includes a subVI that reads data from an oscilloscope and presents the output in the form of a cluster made up of the initial time t(0), a time interval delta t and an array of voltage readings.
This cluster can then be wired to a waveform graph in the usual way. All of this is situated within a while loop in my VI and on each iteration of the loop I obtain a waveform graph of the voltage readings starting at the same time t(0) and ending at the same time t. However I want my graph to begin at a time t(0) when I set my VI running and then continuously acquire and build up the data on each iteration of the while loop so after my VI has finished executing I have a complete graph of all the voltage readings acquired after the set number of iterations of the loop. I know on the Express X-Y Graph VI you can double-click the node and deselect the box that says 'clear data on each call' - if I could do this in my case that would be great but I can't use an x-y graph because I have an array of y-values to plot on each iteration.
If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated - I'm sure there must be an easy solution to this but I'm going out of my mind trying to find out what it is!
    Many thanks,
    Bex.

As usual, you have several options.
You can use an XY Graph by generating the X values yourself. This will ensure that you place the data exactly where you want it on the X axis. This is fast, but does involve a memory cost.
You can use a Waveform Graph with a waveform input instead of the cluster you are using. Use the Build Waveform primitive instead of the bundler to make your waveform. Set the t0 values to the appropriate values (negatives do work, as do small numbers - time is in seconds, use the To Time Stamp primitive to convert from DBL to timestamp). Finally, you need to set the Waveform Graph to use the t0 values. Pop up on the Waveform Graph and make sure Ignore Time Stamp is not checked. Depending on your version of LabVIEW, you may have to pop up on the graph or the axis. When you unselect Ignore Time Stamp, you will probably want to reformat the X-axis again. The Waveform Graph clears data at each iteration, so you will need to replot all your data each time. Just create an array of waveforms and keep adding to it. The t0s will put the waveforms in the right places. Yes, this may cause memory problems.
Finally, you can use the Waveform Chart, which does have memory. Create the waveforms like you did for the Waveform Graph and send them to the chart. It will remember what was sent to it from run to run. Make sure you set the Chart History Length (pop up on chart and select Chart History Length...) to long enough to hold your entire data. You can use a property node to get the data back at the end, if you need to.
    Good luck!

  • Plot XY graph from while loop

I am trying to make a curve tracer with a DC power supply, DAQ, and Labview 7.1. Everything is ok, until I want to plot an x-y plot from a while loop. I can do this function fine using a for loop and cluster cells, but I need the while loop for the interruption function. When I change to the while loop, it had data formating issues, but I believe I have it to something that should work. It seems like my xy plots want to graph (the auto scale moves the axis respectively) but I do not get a line. I'm not sure if Labview is seing this as just one point and not an array, or if there is a labview bug. Attached is my code with a few different trials to make an xy plot. If anyone can be of help I would be very thankful.

If it works in a FOR loop, but nor in a while loop, most likely your output tunnels are not autoindexing (FOR: on by default, WHILE: off by default). Right-click on the output tunnels and select "enable indexing".
If you want to watch your graph update during the while loop, you could accumulate your x and y data in a shift register and graph it. (See attached modification).

  • Question in ABAP syntax, read & insert data from internal table, while loop

    Hi, SDN Fellow.
I am from Java background and learnt ABAP, I don't usually write much ABAP code.
I am trying to implement the following logic in a RFC now.
I have one z-custom database table, the structure as the following:
It has two columns, with these sample data.
    Says datable table is ZEMPMGRTAB.
    EmployeeID,ManagerID
    user10,user1
    user9,user1
    user8,user1
    user7,user2
    user6,user2
    user5,user2
    user4,user2
    user2,user1
    The logic is this:
I have a input parameter, userid. I am using this parameter to have a select statement to query the record into export table,EXPTAB 'LIKE' table ZEMPMGRTAB.
    SELECT * FROM  ZEMPMGRTAB
      into table EXPTAB
       WHERE  EMPLOYEEID  = USERID.
Say, my parameter value, USERID ='USER4'.
Referring to the sample data above, I can get the record of this in my EXPTAB,
    EmployeeID,ManagerID
    user4,user2
Now, I want to iterately use the EXPTABLE-ManagerID
as the USERID input in SELECT statement, until it has no return result. Then, insert the new records in
    EXPTAB.
In above new loop case, we will get this table content in EXPTAB,
    EmployeeID,ManagerID
    user4,user2
    user2,user1
I kind of think of the pseudocode logic as below:
(These may not be a valid ABAP code, so I need help to convert/correct them)
    DATA:
    IWA TYEP ZZEMPMGRTAB,
    ITAB
    HASHED TABLE OF ZZEMPMGRTAB
    WITH UNIQUE KEY EMPLOYEEID.
    SELECT * FROM  ZEMPMGRTAB
      into table ITAB
       WHERE  EMPLOYEEID  = USERID.
*Question 1: I cannot insert a internal table to export table, it is *incompatible type, what is the alternative way fo this?
*Question 2: How can I access thedata of the internal table like this,ITAB-MANAGERID? As if I can, I would do this:
    * IWA-EMPLOYEEE = ITAB-EMPLOYEEID. IWA-MANAGERID = IWA-MANAGERID. INSERT IWA INTO TABLE EXPTAB.
    * Question 3: Is the 'NE NULL' - 'not equal to NULL' is right syntax?
    IF ITAB NE NULL.
    INSERT ITAB INTO EXPTAB.
    ENDIF
    * Question 4: Is my WHILE loop setup right here? And are the syntax right?
    WHILE ITAB NE NULL.
    SELECT * FROM  ZEMPMGRTAB
      into table ITAB
       WHERE  EMPLOYEEID  = ITAB-MANAGERID.
    IF ITAB NE NULL.
    INSERT ITAB INTO EXPTAB.
    ENDIF
    REFRESH ITAB.
    ENDWHILE.
Assume all the syntax and logic are right, I should get this result:
    EmployeeID,ManagerID
    user4,user2
    user2,user1
If I have a new entry in datable table,ZEMPMGRTAB like this:
    user1,user0
My pseudocode logic will get this result:
    EmployeeID,ManagerID
    user4,user2
    user2,user1
    user1,user0
I truly appreciate if you can help me to validate the above syntax and pseudocode logic.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Dynamically passing data into a running while loop from a DAQ assist. in an ouside while loop

Hello,  I'm currently a student working on a senior project and I'm trying to do a state machine that will turn off and turn on a compressor depending on time and coprocessor failure.
In the run state, wich is #1 on the case structure box I placed the DAQ assist.  Which takes in data from an accelerometer.  If the accelerometer's value is above the limit four times it will end the loop or if the time runs out it will end the loop.
The problem I am having is that i need to run four compressors.   I was thinking about having four case structures all within the outside loop, but I can only have the DAQ assist in one location.  This means that I now have to move the DAQ assist out of the run loop or run all four compressors in the one case structure.  If i remove the DAQ assist.  I can only get it take in data once when the loop starts and never again.  I understand why, but is there a way to dynamically pass data froma  DAQ assist.  into a running loop?
Also on a side note, i can't find a tutorial on how to really create a state machine using Enums.  Does any one know where to find this.
I have attached my curent program.
    Thank you for your help,

in labview choose file->new... then pick standard state machine and there are instructions.
you can create a custom control and either use an enum, text ring or menu ring.  Edit the values and then save the control and drop into your vi and you can wire this to your case structure

    Thank you  for guide me.
I made software program that scans atomic (scanning tunneling microscopy, STM). The image you display it. Is the signal driving the PZT. I have two signal generators to drive the PZT motion function in axis X and axis Y. By scanning in the program will require two signal generators to create a graph.By scanning in the program will require two signal generators to create a graph PZT driving signal is associated with both a scanner and scan back to the picture show
I asked what program I was doing. I suppose the signal is scanned by the sine generator to the signal as the tip of the PZT to create an image atoms. I want to set the peak of the sine signal to a pixel if I get to 256 cycle. How to create a graph time axis(X) on the graph shows the signal sine wave 256 cycle and the axis Amplitude(Y) was 256 cycle.

  • Can not pass data after while loop

    Hello.
I have created a VI for my experiment and am having problem passing data outside a while loop to save on an excel file. The VI needs to first move a probe radially, take data at 1mm increment, then move axially, take data radially at 1mm increment, then move to the next axial position and repeat. It would then export these data to an excel file. The VI is a little complicated but it's the only way I know how to make it for our experiment. I have tested it and all the motion works correctly, however I can not get it to pass the data after the last while loop on the far right of the VI where I have put the arrows (Please see the attached VI ). Is it because I'm using too many sequence, case, and while loops?  If so, what other ways can I use to make it export data to the excel file?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Max

Ummmm .... gee, I'm not even sure where to begin with this one. Your VI is well .... ummmm... You have straight wires! That's always nice to see. As for everything else. Well... Your fundamental problem is lack of understanding of dataflow programming. What you've created is a text program. It would look fantastic in C. In LabVIEW it makes my heart break. For a direct answer to your question: Data will not show up outside a while loop until the while loop has completed. This means your most likely problem is that the conditions to stop that specific loop are not being met. As for what the problem is, I don't even want to start debugging this code. Of course, one way to pass data outside of loops is with local variables, and hey, you seem to be having so much fun with those, what's one more?
This may sound harsh, and perhaps be somewhat insulting, but the brutal truth is that what I would personally do is to throw it out and to start using a good architecture like a state machine. This kind of framework is easy to code, easy to modify, and easy to debug. All qualities that your code seems to lack.

  • Writing a file for prescribed amount of time in a while loop after the triggering condition is met

    Hello Guys,
I am trying to program an application in which if the trigger condition is met it should start to write the file.
I was able to do that, but if I want it to be written for certain amount of time, and once the trigger condition is met, it should continue to write the files for prescribed amount of time. I was not able to do this. The file name should also be updated accordingly.
I tried to with some options by keeping the creation of the file outside of the loop, if I do that then if the trigger condition is not met it will stop writing and I dont want that, as once the trigger condition is met it should be true thereafter.
So I cant keep any thing outside the while loop, bcaz then it checks the condition of the shift register for the trigger and I have it as a false constant.
I am attaching my application which is kind of mess and I have written in the application where I am having problems. For every iteration of while loop it makes a new file, and i dont want that, I want to write specific amount of time data to the each file.
Please take a look at my code and help me in solving the problem. Any insights and examples on how to do this thing will be a relief to me.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Capturing of time taken by a while loop in bpm

    Hi ,
I have a busniess process ,and my receive step is defined in a while loop.
so it starts with a while loop.
I want to keep a condition on the while loop that it should receive the messages only for a period of 1 hour ,and if it exceeds this period it should end up the process triggeringa mail.
I mean to say if there are 12 records to be processed through the while loop ...and if I receive only 11 records ..it will be waiting for that final record in an infinite loop ..so I dont want that ...instead if the total no of records are reached then it should move forward ..If it is waiting for the missing records for an hour ..I should stop the process and trigger a mail to the queue monitor saying that record is missing...I have finished the process without this processing time condition successfully..
I am new to XI and I dont have any idea on how to capture this processing time of while loop.
can some one please help me out in this issue...
    Thank you in advance...

    Hi Latika,
Yeah I understand we can go with fork but why I am going with this is ,I have already designed a Payload dependent loop ,by using while loop.so it makes my job simple ...
Now I am converting it to time dependent loop,so only the final question I have is...In the time dependent loop documentation ..they have taken it as infinite loop and only kept the time limit in the deadline branch...so when the deadline reaches they trigger something.
If you go to the documentation of time dependent loop(http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005vp/helpdata/en/08/16163ff8519a06e10000000a114084/content.htm) ..they took the infinite loop...in this loop if I mention the counter ..and if this record count triggers before the time limit...it should come out of the block...would it work this way ?
    Thanks a lot...

  • How come my local variable is not updating it's value with respect to what's happening in the while loop?

    Hello,
I am trying to extract data out of a while loop as my declarations update with respect to the iteration number. I have attempted to use both local variables and shift registers, but with no luck.
I have also done the following example: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/7585/en and it works like a charm.

    OK, looking at the code...
Can you explain what it is supposed to do? What's the purpose of the value property node read which only seems to update an indicator.
The inner while loop should proably be a FOR loop, because the number of iterations is known before the loop starts.
Your use of formula nodes seems overly complicated.

  • While loop termination...

So I have this long sequence of frames and I have an while loop which runs outside of the sequence. I want to to terminate the while loop after the last frame of the sequence  has completed. I tried to wire a logic true constant from the last frame to the  while loop but it does not  work because the while loop seems to terminate prematurelly.  Could someone sugguest  a way of dealing with it? I can' figure out a solution for some reason.

Then the answer is, as with the other case, data dependency. If you wire a value out of your sequence frame into the while loop you've established a data dependency for the while loop since the while loop needs to know what the value of that wire is before it can execute, and the value is not set until the sequence frame ends.
Since your while loop houses an event structure, generate an event at the end of your sequence frame to stop this parallel loop. A crude solution: Wire a True value to the "Value (Signaling)" property of the "Stop" control, and change the event case from "Mouse Up" to "Value Change". You should make sure to initialize the "Stop" button to False at the start of your program, and to change the mechanical action to "Switch When Released":

  • Accessing Data within while loops

    I have LabView 6.0
I have a while loop for my GUI that accesses various sub VIs. One of the Sub VI is a LED on/off thing, which basically checks the communication with the PIC board that I have. For turning the LED on or off, I have to sent a unique command.
Since the Sub VI for the LED on/off is inside a while loop it continuously executes. I want the SubVI to execute only when the status of the boolean controlling the LED has changed from the previous value. I tried giving a feedback from the SubVI to indicate whether there is a change, but Labview will not allow such loops.
I then took the SubVI outside the while loop, keeping the boolean control (so that it continuously checks) inside the while loop. I would like the SubVI to execute depending on the boolean control change. I tried using occurances, but I think these execute only once. I tried accessing the boolean control through a local variable, but the value of the local variable would not change outside of the while loop. (even tried property indicators).
    Any solution would be appreciated.
I could post the VI, but there are too many sub VIs... Dunno if it would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

If you need to post a VI, it is best to strip out those parts which do not have any effect on the problem you are facing. With subVIs, do a Save with Options..>>Development Distribution. This will create an .llb file with your VI and subVIs.
Queues and global variables can transfer data between independent nodes. I am not sure when the datatypes of queues changed. In LV6 you may need to flatten your data to string typpe before passing it to a queue. The functional global or LV2 style global is a subVI consisting of a loop which executes only once and which contains the data in an uninitialized shift register. Many threads on this forum have discussed these options.

  • Getting data from a while loop while running.

    Hello,
I did a program that call a sub-VI which is doing experiment and have its own timer.
The sub-VI is a while loop and the stop condition of this loop is the elapsed time of my timer.
What I want to do is to be able to get the elapsed time in my main program during the execution of the sub-VI (every second of its execution).
First I assign the elapsed time in the sub-VI as an output of it. But of course the elapsed time is only updated in the main VI only when the while loop has finished. So I tried several solution: property nodes, local variable, global variable.
When I am using global variable, I can see the elapsed time being updated during the while loop when I open the global variable VI. But the result is always the same: in the main VI the elapsed time is only updated at the end of the while loop.
I think that is the global variable is updated every time, I could be able to get its data to my main VI?
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thank you,
    Meach

I tried using shared variable and reference without succes.
    I will keep searching.
I enclose my VI that I simplify the most but with still keeping the shape of my real program. If you can take a look I will really appreciate.
The goal is on the top-level VI to be able to see the updating data time in real time.
    Thanks,

  • Problem with DAQ in while loop and Graphs

    Hello,
I'm new here so I apologize if I posted this on the wrong board
    This is my "situation":
I need to make a simple PID controller which takes information (process variable) from an outside source (a NI's DAC connected through the USB port ) which is accomplished using NI-DAQ as an input, and the PID's output goes to the second NI-DAQ which is also connected using DAC to an actuator which in my case regulates the air pressure. (VI attached)
    My problem is the following.
Both of the NI-DAQ I placed using DAQ Assist, require to be in a while loop.
-If I place them in separate loops, I have the problem of passing information between the Input NI-DAQ and the PID, and also between the PID and the Output NI-DAQ.
-If I place them both in one big loop, an error occurs saying that the selected buffer size is too small (Error -200609).
The timing settings for the DAQ's N samples, 100 samples to read at the rate of 1k (I also tried with Continuous samples and many different combinations of Samples to Read an Rate but without success).
Should I wire them with the same dt(s)?
The other thing I need to do (I'm also writing it here in order not to open new topics) is show the following 3 signals on a Graph (process variable (dynamic data type)(range 4mA - 20mA), PID output (double)(range 4mA - 20mA), and the Set Point (double)(range 0 to inf))
Firstly, is it possible to show the first two on a scale from 0 to 100 without changing the PID's output which needs to be 4-20?
Secondly, which graph should I use if I have different data types? (I tried the Waveform Chart, and succeeded in showing the first two; the third just messes everything up)
I would also have to make a legend explaining which signal is which (I see that this is possible with the Mixed Signal Graph).
I know this is probably too much to ask, but I'd be grateful for any help
    Thank you in advance

My problem is the following. Both of the NI-DAQ I placed using DAQ Assist, require to be in a while loop.
    -If
I place them in separate loops, I have the problem of passing
information between the Input NI-DAQ and the PID, and also between the
    PID and the Output NI-DAQ.
This is the best option---Use QUEUE or Functional global or something else to tranfer the data to and fro
How  do I make that QUEUE or Functional global?
-If I place them both in one big loop, an error occurs saying that the selected buffer size is too small (Error -200609).
    Have
you tried increasing the buffer? Is the acquisition happening
parallelly (means to say the first DAQ not wired (error terminal) to
    second DAQ)
Well the buffer is, at least how I understood it, the option Number of Samples when in Continuous Samples mode. Concerning the parallel acquisition, do you mean I should wire the error ports of both of the DAQs?

  • How can I write waveform data from a while loop?

Alright, I have a NI-5122 high speed digitizer that I need to acquire 10,000 waveforms. I am currently using the NI example code "niScope EX Multi Record Fetch More Than Available Memory.vi" to do this and then onto that later. I set the Number of Records to 10,000, min record length to 8192, and the min sample rate to 100M (S/s). On the Fetch vi,  I set it to get a 1D Dbl array and then send it to the while loop edge for auto indexing. What I want is to take each waveform and write it to a file next to the previous waveform not append it to the bottom of the previous one. I can do 100 and sometimes 1000 waveforms with my current setup and then use "write measurement to file.vi" to save the data, but at 10,000 it says that the memory is full. I have 256 MB on the NI-5122 and 4G of memory on my host computer. My reasoning is that if the NI-5122 can hold all that data then why can't my host computer. I have tried to fetch using 2D Dbl and transpose that matrix and send the data to "write measurement to file.vi" inside the loop and append the data that way, but when I do this the card does not acquire any data. Which seems like a software problem. I know this is probabaly worded poorly, so just post a response if further explanation is needed.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
It sound like you might have received a LabVIEW: Memory is full message.  Are you also graphing this data as it is being acquired?  Are you building an array inside the loop?  At the 100 MS/s rate, you are using a lot of memory to acquire, graph, build and transpose array data, and then write to file.  If you are saving to file and do not necessary need to see the data, I would suggest taking the graphical indicator out of the code.  Please review some of the KnowledgeBases linked below about the LabVIEW: Memory is full.
