Keeping files safe

I cleaned still jpegs in adobe individuallyso that they were perfect. I came back to them almost five months later and found that they had been tampered with. And deliberatly marked...and what's worse my mate didnt even show me the finished version on the cloud.
How can I protect the creative integrity of my work when colleagues don't communicate with me and it seems more like a virus?

Create an encrypted disk image for the files.

  • How do I install Snow Leopard while keeping files, applications, and settings

I need to update my system, I realized that I need Snow Leopard (quiet late) before Maverick. My question is, how can I install it keeping files and all the data. I found this on Internet, does it work?
Install Snow Leopard while keeping files, applications, and settings
If you follow these steps, the installer will replace your operating system if one is already present, but will preserve your account information and personal files.  You may have to reinstall some applications, however.
Insert the install disc (or the first install disc if you have more than one) into your disc drive. Restart your computer while holding down the c key. This causes your computer to start up from the install disc rather than your hard drive. When you see the gray Apple insignia, release c .
The Mac OS X installer should open automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts to read and accept the license agreement and begin the installation. When prompted to choose a destination disk, select your preferred location and click Install.
When the Mac OS X installation finishes with the disc, restart your computer. After the installation completes, a configuration program may begin automatically if you are installing for the first time. You will need to supply basic setup information for your computer.
Update your system software to ensure that you have the most recent operating system components.  From the Apple menu, select Software Update... , and then follow the instructions on the screen. Often, you will have to restart your computer, and you may have to run Software Update multiple times before it can completely update your system.

That's why you need to back it up. You won't need to restore the backup immediately afterwards unless something goes wrong during the upgrade, but you'll need it later; the drive will eventually fail.

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:

  • How do I set  File Sharing  in iTunes to keep files up-to-date?

How do I set  File Sharing  in iTunes to keep files up-to-date?  i tried iTunes File Sharing, but the updates to the files never transferred across the USB during sync.  Tried to use Documents to Go, but the Apple behavior keeps them from syncing via USB, so when I am home and have no wifi/internet there is no way to transfer the files.  The other apps I have looked at also use wifi/internet to get around the problematic Apple behavior, so there is no way to connect via USB that I have found other than the iTunes.  Have not been able to locate any helpful information to configure the File Sharing to hotsync the files between pod and computer.

I am trying to USB sync Word, Excel, and PDF files between the ipod and the PC.
Pretty sure icloud has to have the internet to work, but I can try to see what USB options there are there when time permits.

  • Batch Rename with additional "."s, drops the file extension. Request for "Keep File Extension" option...

I NEVER name files with extra "." s in the name. I realize that all OS's (even Windows) will recognize it, but I haven't gotten out the old mindset of 8.3 filenaming... Although I do use longer names. So... I was surprised to see that when I was renaming files as per a clients naming preference to add a period within the name, the file extension is removed.
    For example:
original file -  2014_10_31_1643.CR2   when batch renaming to "2014.31" + sequence, drops the "CR2" extension.
but.... if I change it to "2014_31" + sequence, the ".CR2" remains
Since adding multiple "." is a legitimate naming convention, shouldn't the file extension remain?  Or, possibly this could be made more flexible by adding a check box "Keep file extension"
    just a thought.

    Refer to this stackexchange article:

The finder will only select the filename only for "known" file types.

Huh.. Interesting. I went back to check these proceedures and found there is a difference between using the return key or the space bar as the action command.
tabbing the blue ring moves the selection and then spacebar takes that action. The return key takes action of only the blue collored button.

  • How to safely delete movies if I originally clicked Keep File instead of Move to Trash?

    Hi,
100 GB of my 250GB hard drive is iTunes movies, and I'm about out of space on the drive. So I went through the process of deleting the movies from iTunes, making sure to leave the "Also delete this item from iCloud" unchecked on the prompt "Are you sure you want to delete this copy of the selected item?", but I incorrectly clicked Keep File instead of Move to Trash on the prompt "Do you want to move the selected item to the Trash, or keep it in the iTunes Media folder?"
So my hard drive is still full and I'm not able to get back to the offer to Move to Trash. When I went to the Media folder and moved a movie to the Trash myself, iTunes would no longer start, giving me error 13014. So I returned the movie to the media folder and iTunes was able to start again. When I try to delete the movie from within iTunes, it now only gives the option to hide the movie.
Is there a way to safely remove the files from my hard drive without breaking iTunes?
    Thanks,
    Phil

No easy push-button solution I can think of.
You could export the main itunes Music playlist into a spreadsheet and use that to compare what windows explorer has.
Right-click Music in the itunes source list, export it as XML, and import it into a spreadsheet program so you can arrange it by whatever seems esiet to search on.
Another thing you could do, is create a blank library, import all your existing music and see how many songs are in the new library vs. your old library. For god's sake make sure you have the itunes preferene to copy files turned off when you do this, so you don't gets a bunch of duplicated files on your hard drive.
Then you could switch back and forth between your libraries to check things out.
    How to use alternate libraries:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.1/en/15502.html
Just keep in mind, itunes always tries to use the last library it opened unless you do the shift-start.

  • Can anyone tell me how to delete previous "keep file" files? Im trying to free up some space on my mac.

You can upgrade to Mavericks free, just run the App Store program and search for Mavericks. But before you do upgrade I recommend the following:
    1) make sure you have a recent backup. TimeMachine is fine.
    2) Mavericks is somewhat more memory hungry than 10.7 was. You will need 4 GB of RAM and I strongly recommend 8 GB.
Go back to the Apple menu and select About this Mac - look under the OS info you just looked at. You'll see how much RAM your computer has now. Then click on the More Info button. There you will see your computer info listed as in: iMac, 21.5" mid 2010, for example. Return back with that information and we can tell you how far the computer can be upgraded.
If you decide to procede and you have enough RAM upgrading to Mavericks is quite simple. Click on the download button and let it do its job.

when using cloud, is it neccessary to keep files (i.e.: music, pics) on computer too?

I belong to iTunes in order to put music on my computer and sync to my iPod.  I don't know if I belong to iTunes Match??  I have noticed that the vast majority of my songs when not connected to the Internet  are grayed out and not playable..  Then again there is a minority that are playable. Why are the color album photos of my playlist on my iPad.music.  Does't that use up storage space? Is there a way to get rid of them?

  • How do I restore a file to iTunes after I deleted it using Keep File?

I wanted to shorten the list of visible files in my laptop's iTunes Music folder without losing the actual music.  So I selected Keep File.  Now I want to bring some of that music back.
How do I restore a file to iTunes after I deleted it using Keep File?

Assuming the track file is still there, either use the Add To Library command under the File menu in iTunes and select the tracks you wish to add back into the iTunes library, or find the track files on your hard drive and drag them into the iTunes window.
    Regards.

  • Best way to keep files on iMac and Powerbook in Sync

Best way to keep files on IMac and Macbook Pro in Sync

    Hi ...
Using the Migration Assistant would be tedious and time consuming.
You can setup an iCloud account and sync your Macs since you have Lion installed on both. If you have iCloud enabled, if for example you add a bookmark in Safari, that bookmark will sync via your Wi-Fi network to the other Mac automatically.

  • HT1660 when deleting music files from iTunes and you select Keep File, where is that file stored and how it is retireved?

when deleting music files from iTunes and you select Keep File, where is that file stored and how it is retrieved?

The file is just left where it was when it was connected to the library. Typically:
         <User>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/<Artist>/<Album>/## <Name>.<Ext>
If you want to add it back just drag it into iTunes. If you want to cull the files you kept previously add the entire iTunes Media folder back into iTunes (or use one of Doug's scripts that has the same effect), then delete (and don't keep) the recent additions.
Note that warning/prompt is only issued when the files you are removing are located inside the designated iTunes Media folder.

  • How to keep file sharing on while MacBook lid closed?

would like to keep file sharing on while lide closed on macbook...so i can access files with other device.

i really dont want to be needing to buy a extra screen just to get something working that i had going before...
i do have a bluetooth mouse attached and everytime i move it..the macBook seems to start up but then immediatly goes back to sleep..playing dead
all i want is that file sharing continues when i close the lid...
Do you think that it might be a hardware problem?
Or maybe software...because since I downloaded Lion...screensaver has been jumping in randomly too...I know it's nothing special since many people have encountered this issue and i just reinstalled lion and it seems to be fine so far....
anyhow... still hoping to find the right solution...
But thanks for the help..really appreciate it...

How is it best to keep files synced between iMac and Macbook?  I work from home on my iMac and then out in meetings on my Macbook and need to have access to the same files on both.  The folders are using Microsoft programmes as this is compatiable with 90% of my colleagues, therefore I can't use the Icloud service.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.
