Keeping iPod in Source list

Hey all
I know there is an option to keep your iPod in the source list even when it is not actually connected to your Mac. However I'll be buggered if I can find it or remember where it is. Can anyone point me in the right direction because I have looked everywhere I can think of and can't find it! D'oh
Thanks in advance...

Unfortunately the "Keep This iPod in the Source List" function for the iPod shuffle that was in previous versions of iTunes isn't included in iTunes 7.
You can check out a workaround at this link which may help out for now: Create ready-to-sync playlists for Shuffles in iTunes 7

  • I'm not seeing my Options button for keeping iPod in Source list

I've recently bought an iPod Shuffle which is working fine. However I do have one problem - in the User Guide it states that iTunes can be set to keep iPod Shuffle in the Source list when it isn't connected. I want to do just that but can't!
Guide tells you to select iPod Shufle in the Source list and click the Options button. My problem is that I don't see an Options button when I click the iPod icon!
In the guide it looks like I should see a panel of 4 buttons - an iPod icon, a what looks like an equaliser icon, then what I can only describe as a flower icon and then the eject iPod icon. But I'm not seeing it!
I'm getting very frustrated now, I've downloaded the latest iTunes software and I've looked on the help pages but nothing has helped.
Please can some kind soul tell me how I can find this Options button. Many thanks! Ruth

  • Can't update/restore after intalling itunes 7.0  or see ipod in source list

I have a complicated issue. I just installed itunes 7.0 and my ipod won't show up in the source list (which had been a problem before with 6.0). Thinking this had to do with my Toshiba laptop, I disabled my high-speed usb port. But one of the later steps (to fix the toshiba problem) is to open the ipod updater and then restore the ipod. I can't do either of these because for some reason my updater is the 6.0 version still and gives me an error saying it's no longer supported and i have to use itunes to update (which I can't). I don't know what to do! I need help!

    Hey there
I had issues trying to update my ipod (60g) after upgrading to itunes 7. Finally figured it out!!! I had to disable my Norton internet security - firewall and everything worked fine!!! It took maybe 10-15 mins to update the ipod to version 1.2 - then another 30 minutes to upload all my podcasts. I have no idea why it uploaded each one. Almost like during the update to version 1.2 - my podcasts (only the podcasts) were deleted and then reloaded again. Weird!!!
SO... hopefully you have a firewall that you can disable for about maybe 30 mins - just enough time to let the ipod update then you should be good. took me 4 friggin days to figure this one out!!!!
    Hope this helps!!

  • IPod in source list

My iPod still appears in the source list even though it is disconnected.
    Thanks,
    Brian

This was an essential feature (continuing to list the ipod after ejection) especially for those that managed the contents of multiple ipods off of the same itunes account. I hope it was just an oversight and that the feature will be enabled again.
In my case, when I initially upgraded to iTunes 7 the unmounted devices were displayed only until I mounted them. After that, they would not display until they were remounted.

  • ITunes won't put Ipod in source list

The Ipod says 'Connected' when I plug it in
    It's fully charged
    I just loaded iTunes 9.0.2.25
There's no source list in iTunes, so no Ipod to select
Ipod does not show up on Windows Explorer
Ipod appears to be in disk mode - Settings -> About -> 3rd screen to right shows serial number
Ipod does show up in Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Disk Drives -> Apple iPod USB Device
Computer 'dings' when I plug the Ipod in, and I can 'eject' it from the eject devices safely icon on the toolbar. It shows up as Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device.
What do I need to do to get the iPod to show up in iTunes?

I like beating my head against a wall and so kept looking into this. Finally found a post on CNET, related to SP 2 - you can't have something mapped to the drive after your last hard wired drive. iTunes or the iPod has to use that drive location. I had a network directory mapped to my E: drive, right after the DVD/CD drive of my laptop at D:. I moved that network directory to the end of all my mapped network directory drives to free up E:, connected up my iPod and voila!, there's my iPod in iTunes. The iPod synced right up and came alive.
I started this Friday night - it's Sunday night now. Just like an emergency room - never have an accident on a weekend - you won't get any help other than that you can give yourself.

  • Keep iPod in itunes

Is there a way to keep my 2G shuffle iTunes even when it's not connected? I could do this with my 1G shuffle in iTunes 6 (i remember there was an option "keep this iPod in source list" or something like that). It would be useful so I can change my playlist when my shuffle isn't connected and then it will update automatically when i do connect it.

Nope, it does not stay put when ejected.

Thanks.... I did not think there was, unfortunately, but thought I'd ask in case I missed something.

  • Keeping Ipod Icon in iTunes source list when Ipod is disconnected

My shuffle icon used to stay in the iTunes source list even when it was disconnected, which was really nice to make changes and then connect the ipod to update all at once, but it has disappeared. I have done some searching and can't find the answer. Any help would be great, thanks!

    Anthony,
Only shuffles have this "feature"...since regular iPods can sync against any number of selected playlists, one really doesn't need this capability as it less powerful than what is provided.

  • Ipod icon in source list

Can I keep the ipod icon in the itunes source list - so that I can click on it and see details of my ipod library etc? when the ipod isn't connected to my computer? I could do this with my ipod shuffle, but with my nano it disappears when I disconnect.

The list of songs iTunes displays when you click on an iPod shuffle in the source list are those songs iTunes has decided to transfer to the shuffle; you can tell the shuffle's actual contents by ignoring any entries which have a gray dot. This display will be updated when the iPod shuffle is connected to that copy of iTunes, but iTunes won't update it if songs on the shuffle are erased in other ways, such as by restoring it on another computer. The list is drawn from the iTunes records and not from the iPod shuffle's contents.

When I plugged my ipod into my mac to sync it again, it wouldn't even appear in the source list. I can't even click on it to restore it. It's simply not there. • I have an older IPOD that I'm having trouble getting new purchases on to my IPOD. I use to have a source list on the left hand side of screen where I dragged my purchases to and they downloaded.  Can't find place to check manual vs. auto sync.

I have an older IPOD classic that I'm having trouble getting new purchases from library to IPOD. I use to have a IPOD icon in the source list on the left side of the screen. Now that is all gone. My purchases are coming up as recently purchased but can't figure out how to get them transferred to IPOD.  I also can't find how to confirm setting is for manual not auto sync as the first computer I had blew up and am now using a different one. I haven't had any of these problems prior to the updates.

As an avid flight simmer I bought a new soundcard my previous was

I am now going to do as you suggest and see what happens.
I shall return with the outcome of my dilemma.
