Keeping itunes minimized when playing

Can someone tell me how to keep Itunes minimized when opening a song from a folder on my desktop.I hate when choosing a song and then having to minimize Itunes everytime

When file types are associated with an application, this application will open.
There's no way known to me to prevent this.
Activating the Mini-player (green button in the iTunes window) will open iTunes, but it will only show the small Mini-player window.
Another way is to choose column view in a Finder window and navigate to the Desktop. Choose the file and listen to it using the preview.
Yet another way is to associate another application with the file type (QuickTime for example).
This will of course open QT, but only a small window will open.

Are any of the keys on the keyboard sticking at all? try disconnecting keyboard then minimizing iTunes see if it pops back up
Check for any programs that run after startup to see if they contain an option that auto launches when you minimize iTunes
If you have an iPod, iPod Touch, Shuffle, or iPhone connected or any other device that works with itunes connected. Disconnect it then try to minimize.

I'm pretty sure this is an Apple thing and you can't do anything about it. To get rid of the notification just do as it asks then try to forget about it.

MPEG stuttering when played in iTunes, normal when played directly in QT

I have an MPG which plays just fine in QT, but when I add it to iTunes and play it through there (it lands in the Movies section and I double-click it), it stutters (the audio), as if it has trouble keeping up with it. Any ideas? Can this be fixed, or should I not be using iTunes to manage my video content?

Keep iTunes info when identifying a new location for the media folder

I keep my iTunes media folder on an external hard drive which failed. I was able to transfer my media folder to another external drive. How to I let iTunes know where it is and keep my playlists and albums and other info intact in iTunes.

A "library" is everything in the iTunes folder. However, in some cases, such as yours, you have moved your media folder out of the iTunes folder which iTunes does not really like but can live with as long as nothing happens such as a drive failing. The whole organization is stored in a file called iTunes Library.itl. Right now your .itl tells iTunes that when you click on track xyz it needs to play the file xyz.mp3 in a certain folder on a drive named___
The two ways to get iTunes to work are, as I said, either fool it into thinking the drive is the same one, or to get it to try to fix all the broken links.
Now, I use an older (and IMHO a much better) OSX version. I don;'t know about your version (I guess they have not changed in this regard) I know I can simply click on an external drive and rename it just as I would a any other file or folder. Of course if you changed the folder organization too that will confuse iTunes, but I don't know exactly what you have done until you tell me.

ITunes freezes when playing video.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Let me start by saying I've seen many others complain about this with mostly no resolution.
To elaborate, when initiating any video in iTunes (be it a movie, TV show, music video, or iTunes Store preview), the application immediately hangs. No errors -- iTunes just stops responding and can only be closed by killing its process. I've tried all the solutions people hash out time and again to no avail. This has been happening since iTunes 10, and ever since I've been playing all its videos through QuickTime (which works perfectly).
In Safe Mode, however, a black box appears briefly (as if the video's about to play), before a Windows "iTunes has stopped responding" prompt comes up. Not only that, but I also get two error logs in Event Viewer:

I don't know how helpful these logs are, but I've never seen anyone post anything similar when reporting this issue. Microsoft's link in the second one's header tells you to install a "newer" version of iTunes 64-bit even if you have the newest one (and I've done it with no improvement). In one post, iTunes wouldn't play video for somebody until they were told to uninstall Klite Codec Pack. This was the only time I came across this suggestion, and, having Klite, did it too, but with no improvement. iTunes still hangs when trying to play video, it crashes "properly" with a Windows prompt when trying to play video in Safe Mode, and QuickTime works fine (which I guess is my only solution).
Some insight from Apple would be appreciated. This has been happening since iTunes 10, so I consider the problem to be on iTunes' end rather than my system's, which has by and large been a constant the whole time.

Codec packs are notorious for causing iTunes problems.
Try searching c:\windows\SysWOW64 for files with Quicktime in the name.
There should be just two:
Quicktime.qts
QuicktimeVR.qtx
If there are any other files or folders, try dragging them to the desktop ot any temporary folder.
Does that make any difference.
After doing that, do you have the latest Quicktime installed, if not update it.

Audio problem with iTunes feed when played on iPod

I'm writing to see if someone can help.
The audio on my podcast works fine at Libsyn (at http://epltalk.libsyn.com). However, the same version that's on iTunes has audio problems when played on an iPod (it plays fine when it's played from the iTunes program on my Mac). During the interview portion of the podcast on my iPod -- downloaded from iTunes (listed under 'EPL Talk')-- you can only hear the answers, but you can't hear the questions (my voice).
Does anyone have any suggestions of what could be wrong? All of my other podcasts I listen to on the same iPod play fine. Very strange.

Try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

Itunes freezes when playing a movie

Since the last update, whenever I play a movie rental, The picture will freeze but the sound continues. I have to completly restart itunes to fix it. Any suggestions on how to fix it so it doesnt happen again?

I think I solved the problem.....In Itunes, I had my iphone set up to update VIA wireless...Itunes scans and constantly searches..which was causing the video to freeze up...when I disabled or disconnected the iphone, I no longer have issues.
If anyone else is....Disable any devices (ipads, Iphones, ipods) that might be connected to itunes using the wireless method.

How to stop the iTunes launching when play/pause is pressed? PLEASE HELP

I have a macbook pro 13 inches. When I play computer game, during an intense battle, I always accidently press the play/pause button.
Immediately, the iTunes launch, which will make my game go frozen and I would always lose the battle. This make me extremely frustrated, I have lose so many battles cause of this problem. I know that I could turn the top row of my action keys to Fn keys. That would solve my problems, right? But no. Becuase I use those keys very often. It would be awful without them. For example, the screen brightness, the mission control, the keyboard back-lit light, the volume adjust. Without all these, my mac experience would be awful. Im just wondering if there are other solution beside for turning the Fn keys on.

I cant shuffle tracks in playlists like before on latest itunes and when playing ipod through car stereo it will only placks in the 'correct'order - even if i select shuffle on the ipod itself.

i mostly use my ipod in a car system through the oe radio (audi a4) - if you connect an ipod and play tracks, evene when setting songs to shuffle it stil plays in the correct order.
in the past i have made and shuffled playlists then they played fine. since 'upgrading' to the latest itunes it does not now let me do this. you can shuffle tracks but it does not physically re-list the tracks like it used to.
any help on this woulod be greatly appreciated!

ITunes error when playing HD video to monitor

I've got a few-months-old Mac mini hooked up to an older Apple Cinema display (model A1081). When I try to play a TV show purchased from iTunes that's in HD or HD-SD format, I get the following error (and no video):
This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).
Any way around this, or am I just stuck because this monitor is "old"?

Try this, it worked for me. After you've purchased HD content and downloaded it, navigate to the SD version in the iTunes store. It should show that you can download the SD version without paying again. Now your content is HD-SD (of course some of your content may already have both versions).
When you stream it to an Apple TV it will be HD, but if you want to play it on your older monitor, control-click the movie in your library, then navigate down to "version" and select SD. It will now play SD on that old monitor.

Itunes freezes when playing movies or tv, music ok

I downloaded a movie and it wouldn't play at all. The opening starts, but then when you go to select play movie, it freezes. Then all of itunes freezes and I have to close it with the task manager. No no video - tv shows, clips, other movies will play. Always crashes and I have to close with task manager. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, but still the same issue.

PS - Music plays just fine.

After experiencing this probelm for forever and a day with countless minutes of time wasted, I HAVE A SOLUTION! Albeit one I stumbled on by accident.
Before you rename a file, double click the movie to start playing it, then "X" (close) out of the window playing to stop it playing. Then rename the file and it will work instantly.
Don't ask me why this works, it just does....!

ITunes stutters when playing LOUD Music

I'm a mobile DJ, and I use my MacBook Pro SR 2.2 Ghz with 2GB Ram and Mac 10.5.3 with iTunes 7.6.2. When I DJ I use loud speakers and I believe it's causing the Sudden Motion Sensor in the Laptop to "brake" the hard drive, therefore stuttering the music. This is not acceptable. I have looked up online how to turn this off, and found a thread about opening the terminal and typing in a command line:
To disable SMS:
sudo pmset -a sms 0
To enable SMS:
sudo pmset -a sms 1
However, after I disabled the SMS and verifying it's turned off, it still stutters? It works fine when I'm playing at normal volume levels, but when I turn up the volume it's like it didn't turn off the SMS. I have an older Powerbook G4 (1.33 Ghz on Tiger) that doesn't have the Sudden Motion Sensor and it works great under any volume level. Does anyone know why it still stuttering even when I turn off the SMS?

I just paid $0.99 to download music from apple store. It shows up in my "Purchased" and "Library" but it just wont play altho all other music in my iTunes plays well.
Any suggestions?

Itunes stutters when playing music

When I'm playing music in itunes and go to open another program, the music skips and stutters.
I saw posts elsewhere to go to Quicktime preferences and "change the 'Sound Out' from DirectSound to something more reasonable, like 'Wave Out.'" I found nothing in preferences indicating "directsound" but checked a box marked, "Safe mode (waveOut only)" which did not fix my problem. The skipping/stuttering is still there.

I managed to fix a similar issue on Mac OS X:
"I am running 10.5.8 on an iMac 27 with a 2.66GHz i5 processor and got the same side-effects after I moved up to iTunes 10.5. Th e problem also continued when I downgraded to 10.4.1 as well, straight afterwards. However, I managed to resolve it fairly quickly in this way:
Opened the Activity Monitor, and looked at the processes taking most resources.
The one that leapt out at the top, if ordered by % CPU, was "ShockWave Flash (Chrome Plug-in Host)".
So, I closed down Chrome and noted that it was still there. Thus, I sent a force quit to it and waited for it to die. I then re-opened iTunes and the annoying stuttering had gone. I've now got Chrome and this plug-in open and it has not returned. I suspect the issue may frequently be caused by a plug-in like this causing resource contention, but I can't say for sure as I've only seen this once.
My advice would be to close down, one by one, as many apps as you can and constantly review activity ordered by CPU in Activity Monitor. If you think you can safely quit the process then do so and retry iTunes. If you're not sure, then gracefully shutdown and look again. Bear in mind, the problem may be launching at startup. Before shutting down, review your Login Items in System Prefs->Accounts->"My Account"->Login Items. Remove anything you can live without. You can always add them back in. If you manage to spot conflicting software then you can look for a patch or upgrade, but at least be aware that it does not play well with iTunes and thus quickly fix your issue."
May be you can follow a similar process on Windows? I would target your suspicions towards Adobe and Google components :-) !!!

ITunes freezes when playing any kind of video

Up until a little while ago I was able to use iTunes to stream movie trailers, watch video podcasts, and watch movies saved in my library. For some reason now I am unable to.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Quicktime and iTunes, and I have even tried using older versions of both of these.
I can play videos in Quicktime OK, but not in iTunes.
The moment I hit "play", iTunes freezes. This happens with ANY kind of video (ie. podcasts, streaming, trailers, local videos, etc.)
Videos I used to once be able to play I cannot.
I have synced some of the videos to my iphone and they play fine on it, so the format is correct.
Any help would be great.

I had this same problem s a lot of others after updating to the latest I Tunes version. I finally got a decent response back from Apple, which was hard to do. Here is what they told me. Maybe it will help you:
