Keeping ITunes Separate on Separate computers

Been running iTunes for years on my Mac(s).
Got a used Lenovo to code VBA macros for work.
Added iTunes for podcasts I don't watch at my desk: Like TED.
With the last iTunes: suddenly my Mac Library & Playlist shows up on the Laptop.
Not the desired result.
I have 2 iPods [classics] and wish to sync one with the Lenovo and the other, as usual, with my Mac.
There is only one account. I have nothing on Cloud.
Where do I find out how to keep the Libraries Separate |
(Don't wish to delete all the unwanted podcasts (or library entries) from the laptop and then find out they are gone from my main Mac)
No way is there enough room on my Laptop for the iTunes Library that's on the Mac.
TIA

iTunes 11.1.0.126
Home Sharing is off. Seems to affect Podcast List & not music.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Not that I know of.
The download of my complete iPod subscription list occurred with the
11.1.0.126 on a PC & Same Latest for Mac
iCloud was down loaded as part of the PC Apple Update but I deleted the iCloud app on the PC after it was installed. This (duplicate podcast listings) could have happened before I deleted it. Sorry, not ready for cloud since I don't have any other apple products orther the the iPod & the Desktop Macs.
PC development items cannot go to the cloud..company policy for the type of work.
Never subscribed to iCloud.
So: if there is no iCloud link on my PC Laptop: is it safe to delete the unwanted Pod Cast Entries on the PC and not have them deleted from the Mac?
Looks like I need to do some homework on iTunes Match and iCloud ;-)

  • Keeping iTunes on a Separate Hard Drive, and Keeping it Safe.

    Apple Discussion
Hello everyone. Apologies if is this isn't quite the right place but I've searched around in various communities and had not found something similar to what I'm thinking about.
I have a OWC Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 4TB external drive enclosure (with four drives each 1TB in size) that stored my iTunes library, backed-up school work, old copies of Dropbox and had a partition for TimeMachine. Last night the drive had stopped working and I haven't been able to access any files. Now not all of the drives were the same make and model, and that was just one of several issues.
My problems aside, I am looking for something that I can replace my enclosure with. Ideally I would like to back up my entire iTunes library and that has forced me to think about RAID, which is a little over my head. Ignoring factors like money and memory size can someone talk me through what is the best configuration of RAID for large backups of this type? My iTunes consists more of TV shows and movies than it does of music, and I would love to have a partition for TimeMachine.

I keep all my photos on a separate hard disk.
Are you saying that you're running a "referenced" library? Look in iPhoto's Advanced preference pane and compare what you see to this screenshot:
    What is it?

  • HT5035 If i have 2 children on my apple account, can i set up sub accounts that will keep itune card balances separate?

I have 2 children on my itunes account. can you set up sub accounts so itunes cards blaances remain seperate.

    - You can't create subaccounts.
    - You can create new account(s). The media on the iPod is still usable. It does create more work when updating apps since yo have to sign into the account that purchased them to update them. If you have apps purchased from more than one account that need update you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased with one account.
    - To change accounts for purchasing go to Settings> Store (or Settings.iTunes and App store depending upon the iOS) and sign out and sign in with different account.

Copy the content from one computer to another and import the media into iTunes.
Any playlists, playcounts, etc on the computer the content is being moved from will be lost.

When I load one of my own cd's onto itunes, it creates separate albums for each unique pairing (ie: singer/composer or singer/orchestra). I end up with
the cuts scattered over several albums.  How do I keep all the cuts on an album together rather than divided between several albums? I'm brand new with this technology, so I need your information in simple terms.  Thank-you.

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
The site could do with updating as some options have changed with iTunes 11, but the principles are the same.

  • I have one itunes account, but several itouch apparatus that belong to kids, how do I keep their cloud stuff separate, or does it all go into one cloud?

I have one itunes account, but have several itouches that belong to the kids.  How do I keep the cloud's separate, or does it all go into one, because of the one acccount?

All devices under the same Apple ID will have one iCloud. If they are over 13, they can create their own Apple IDs, or you can just turn everything off under Settings > iCloud on the iPods.

  • I have two cell phone, different numbers.  Each has their own apple id.  How can i merge them so apps on one show on the other but keep their emails addresses separate on their own phone?

Have two cell phones, different numbers.  Each has their own apple id.  How can I merge them so apps purchased on one phone show on the other.  But.as each has their own email address, I want to keep these email addresses separate on their own phone?  Thanks.

We do this in my family now.  We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores).  Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud.  That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup.  That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice.  You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.
In answer to what iCloud does for you: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response.  What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures.  Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures.  1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

  • Multiple iTunes Installation in Separate XP Accounts

My wife and I have separate XP accounts (Home Edition) on the same computer. iTunes is available for use in both accounts. I've configured both our iTunes to point to a shared music folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Shared Music. Recently I loaded and purchased a whole bunch of music which I wanted her to have access to when she is logged in her account as well.
I logged in as here and from iTunes perform a File - Add Folder to Library. All went fine. I logged out of her account, logged into mine, launched iTunes and all of a sudden a bunch of my songs had "!" exclamation points in front of them? As I began selecting some of them, more exclamation points began to show up. What's going on?
Is it not possible to have 2 separate XP accounts each with iTunes and point both to a shared library of songs where she can see all the library items I see?
    Thanks.

Make sure that iTunes isn't moving any files around. Go to edit\prefs\advanced, and uncheck 'keep iTunes folder organized.' Do this on both accounts, and you should be all fixed up.

If have separate iCloud accounts and want to keep your all your iCloud data separate, you can create separate user accounts for each of you, then sign into your individual iCloud account within your user account.
If you want to just add both iCloud calendars on your Mac, you can sign into one iCloud account in System Preferences>iCloud, then add the second account in System Preferences>Internet Accounts>iCloud and only check Calendars with this second account.

  • How to listen to iTunes through two separate stereo systems simultaneouly?

I was thinking of buying two Airport Express units in order to run iTunes to two seperate stereo systems in two different rooms. Can this be done, or is there a better way to accomplish this?
    thanks for any help!

    iMac G4, 800 Mhz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Pjo,
Yes, you can listen to iTunes through two separate stereo systems simultaneously. The current version of iTunes allows you to stream your music to multiple Airport Express units. At the bottom of iTunes, where the different Airport Express units' names are listed, there is a "Multiple Speakers..." option; select this to choose from one or more of your units.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I use accounts in the Airport Utility to keep backup from multiple macs separate and separate?

Can I use accounts in the Airport Utility to keep backup from multiple macs separate and separate?

Backups from multiple Macs are always kept separate. Each Mac TM will create its own sparsebundle and will not interfere with others.
Using the accounts in AU will simply make each sparsebundle only accessible to that user.. ie it is a purely a security measure.. that is so weak as to be useless .. anyone can bypass it by pressing the reset for 1sec.
And what it will do is cut off everyone from their existing backups.. you will be warned when you set it up that what is about to happen may not be 100% goodness.. pay attention.. it is not.

  • I want to keep my email contacts separate from pho...

I have a Nokia N96. I recently set up email on it so that it sync's with my hotmail account
However when I set this up all the hotmail contacts (200-300) were merged with my phone numbers into an extremely long list
I want to keep my email contacts separate from phone numbers on N96
Is there a way to do this?
Also if I delete an email address on my phone will it also delete from my hotmail account?
    Thanks if you can help

They both should show up in the top inbox. On the left side of the inbox is a small triangle. Click it so it goes down and you should see your Verizon and Gmail as sub boxes.
