Keeping iTunes synced to multiple PCs

I have a have a Windows laptop and iPhone and purchase content from iTunes on both. Syncing with the two devices is straighforward. I've just added a desktop component, as well as and AppleTV to my network.
Any suggestions on how I can keep iTunes on both PCs synced so regardless of whether i buy content on iPhone, AppleTV, laptop or desktop its all the same?
Thanks for any pointers...

There are a few utilities specifically designed to help you sync iTunes across different computers. You could begin your research by having a look at these for instance:

SuperSync

My situation - use home computer for music etc., boat computer for weather file downloads, officecomputer for email / pictures ...
    Thank you

There is an App called Weathertrack, which pulls from the web GRIB files (weather information), that I would like to download onto the laptop we have on the boat, that runs some routing software (SeaTrack), that in turn integrates weather, tide, GPS etc to help with vessel navigation.
I can obviously do this from my home computer (this is the one that has the 1-1 sync relationship), but I don't want to empty the IPhone content whilst on the boat ...
If you can think of a way of making this happen, I would be very appreciative. Both PCs are windows based, home is Vista, boat is XP.

  • ITunes sync with multiple computers

    Help for a newbie please!
I have a Windows 7 laptop running iTunes and syncing up with my iPhone beautifully.  My goal is to sync that library with another computer (Windows XP desktop) so that they're independent of one another.  However, I do need it ot keep track of play count, ratings, and playlists for my iPhone.  The other issue that complicates the matter is that my laptop has all my music local on C:\Users\%username%\Music (which I keep organized), but I want the library on the XP machine to be on a USB portable hard drive (so E:\%username%\Music)
    So here's my summary:
keep music library synced between 2 PCs (in my own folder structure)
allow my iPhone to sync up with them
preserve play count, ratings, and playlists
Any ideas?  Thank you all in advance!

  • HT1727 how can i see my itunes content on multiple pcs in different locations

how do I get my ITunes to view in multiple locations, so I can for example use it at work as well as home?

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

  • How can I get my iTunes synced between multiple computers?

I always have the most current version of iTunes and I also subscribe to iTunes Match. Is there anyway to get my computers (both Mac) to have the same iTunes library without deleting all of one library and importing the other to it? As a professional musician, I have way too many songs to constantly do this, and I refuse to believe that Apple hasn't came up with a better solution such as syncing. If anyoe can help me out, it would greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    No.
Iphone will sync with one and only one computer a a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.

  • Can I use the same iTunes folder on multiple pcs?

  • Migrating from Zune to iTunes (not happy)  - How do I sync multiple PCs & music purchases with single library?

    Apple community:
Have been fighting the change from Microsoft Zune to Apple iPod/iTunes for various reasons for a few years, but have no choice but to move now.
Under Zune I could have the Zune desktop software (similar to iTunes) installed on multiple computers (four to be exact). All four installations of the Zune software pointed to the SAME single media library (\\server\media\music), and all four computers had instant access to new media purchased across any of the four PCs.
In other words, if I purchased a song on my home office PC downstairs, if I went upstairs to my personal PC, the song I purchased on the office PC was immediately available on the other 3 PCs in the house. It was extremely convenient being able to access the same media library and purchased songs across any PC, and not have to worry about manually searching for new media and/or re-syncing, etc on every PC each time. Whatever I did in Zune on one PC was instantly replicated on the others. Very simple.
Apple iTunes on the other hand works completely different, so I'm trying to wrap my brain around how to achieve a similar solution with iTunes. I know that each iTunes installation uses a seperate library (file) for EACH PC (and then there are limits with how many computers can access a song at once, and other drawbacks).
My question is this - Is there ANY solution that allows me to have iTunes installed on multiple PCs, and be able to instatly replicate any changes to the other PCs? In other words, I would like to be able to purchase a song on one PC, and have that song immediately show up on the other PCs in the house.
The same goes for playlists. If I create a playlist on PC #1, can I edit the same playlist on PC #3, and then see those changes reflected on PC #1?
I hope that doesn't sound too confusing. Thanks in advance for help/tips.

  • ITunes 9.0.2.25 Library Issue with Multiple PCs

I have been using iTunes for years with minimal issues on multiple PCs on the same network. My iTunes library and all of my music resides on a network-attached drive mapped as drive "Z" on two PCs.
    - One PC is running XP Media Edition and is hard-wired to my Ethernet hub
    - The other PC is running Vista and is connected wirelessly to the network
Once in a while, when my versions of iTunes got out of sync, I'd get a message saying that the library was created with a different version of iTunes. I'd simply update the PC that had the older version and everything was fine.
Now, with a recent update to version 9.0.2.25, only the hard-wired PC (the XP machine) will read the library. Both machines have 9.0.2.25 installed, but when I try to use the laptop it says that it appears as if the library is corrupt, renames the library "(Damaged)" and creates a new, empty library. I was able to re-import nearly all of my music, though some purchases are gone.
Has Apple now somehow eliminated the ability for multiple PCs to access the same library? I find it suspicious that the only machine that can access the library is the one with which I imported the songs to begin with.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't try to open iTunes on both machines. If memory serves, I think that causes problems.
Last night I checked for updates and it offered a new version - 9.0.3. I upgraded the laptop (the one that I'm having problems with) and it fixed it. The other machine is still 9.0.2.25 but it doesn't seem to bother it.
    All fixed!
    Thanks!
    Jim

  • My old laptop crashed, and took my iTunes account with it.  I got a new laptop, and want to sync my iTouch to my new iTunes account.  It gives me an error message stating that I can't sync to multiple iTunes accounts, but I can't access my old one!  Help!

My old laptop crashed, and took my iTunes account with it.  I got a new laptop, and want to sync my iTouch to iTunes.  It gives me an error message stating that I can't sync to multiple iTunes accounts, but I can't access my old one!
How can I get my new iTunes account to allow me to Sync my iTouch?  The only option it gives me is to "transfer purchases" from my iTouch to iTunes, but that is only about 25% of my iTunes library-most of it is CDs I have uploaded.  How can I Sync without losing all my music from my iTouch???
Also, I have lectures and photos, etc. on my iTouch that I don't want to lose.
I've tried a few of the iPod copy programs-the free ones and the ones you have to pay for, but I can't find one that will work for ALL my content on an iTouch.
Right now, I can't get anything from my iTouch to iTunes, and I can't update my iTouch with my new iTunes purchases, so I'm stuck!  Help!

Also-I tried to use my backup hard drive, but I wasn't able to drag/transfer/send/move any of my muic files onto my iTouch when the iTouch was connected to my computer.  I can't figure out why it won't let me do that.
The only thing I can see when I open my iTouch on my computer is my file with photos.  I can't see videos, music, or anything else.  What's going on?

  • Possible bug in iTunes 10.6 - keeps re-syncing songs

I have several hundred MP3s of very old songs from the 1910s and 1920s which sync to my iPod without problems.  When I acquired an iPhone 3GS with more limited capacity, I set iTunes to "convert higher bitrate songs to 128Kbps AAC".  This worked fine under iTunes 10.5.  Now that I have "upgraded" to 10.6, iTunes keeps re-syncing and re-converting some -- but not all -- of the higher bitrate songs.  Apparently iTunes is flagging these songs for re-syncing, which takes  hours since they all must be converted to 128Kbps.
I tried to detemine whether the file type, ID3 tags, sample rate, LAME encoder version, etc., were to blame.  In all these cases the re-syncing occurred with some songs but not others.  I then began to notice that the re-synced songs are monaural, single channel, while stereo songs do not keep re-syncing.  As an experiment, I used the menu option "Convert to AAC" on one song.  That song synced and then did not re-sync.  Examining the original and converted files in Audacity showed that the conversion did not add a channel, but the bit depth changed from "32-bit float" to "16-bit PCM" and the bitrate went from 320 constant to 128 VBR.  The menu option "Convert to iPod or iPhone version" is grayed out, and in any event I don't know what it does.
At this point I'm frustrated.  I don't want to load up iTunes with duplicate songs, and I don't want to delete my higher bitrate files.  I have no idea why iTunes should favor one file format and reject another.
Audacity can convert individual songs to dual channel but does not have a setting to batch-convert channels.  I don't know of any other utility that will batch-convert single channel to dual channel; I tried Switch and Max, and while they have a setting to export stereo, they don't seem to convert mono to stereo (joint or otherwise).
Can anyone explain why this is occurring? Any suggestions for batch-convert utilities or other workarounds?

well, I couldn't wait till next week to sync the little ol' iPod again, so did it today today, and yes... the re-syncing problem is definitely caused by the monaural files. or rather, the fact that the syncing program in iTunes is configured in such a way that it keeps looking at these files as 'new' and in need of syncing, or something like that... so, if there's anybody out there who knows how to get this info to the right man at Apple, please don't keep us in the dark...
it probably is fixed easily, but before that happens it'll probably have to go through heaps of red tape... we'll sit it out 'till then, just sitting there, in our gloomy rooms, handling the mono to stereo thingies, doing our thing... sniff...lol

  • Can iTunes sync multiple songs with the same name?

My iTunes library has multiple songs with the same name (but they point to different files on the filesystem).
Curiously when iTunes syncs to my iPhone it will only ever sync two of the files, even if more exists. I suspect what is happening is described below, but I have no way of verifying it:
Let's assume I have 5 songs named IdenticalName, on the filesystem these are named IdenticalName.mp3, IdenticalName 1.mp3, IdenticalName 2.mp3, and so on.
I suspect iTunes is syncing the filename without a number postfix, and the file with the "1" postfix and not continuing with the rest of the files.
Has anyone seen similar behaviour? Did you find a workaround (other than renaming your tracks)?

can you manually discover the new instances on the new server?
Then just make sure the name that appears in Grid Control is different.
e.g. prod.world is on server A and B. When you discover in Grid control, you can make it prod_B and you will see the latter without any problem.

  • Is it possible to copy free apps that are not on the App Store anymore to multiple iPhones through iTunes sync?

I have an old app on my iPhone that is able to run on ios7 but has now been deleted from the app store. I was wondering if iTunes sync would allow me to put it onto multiple iPhones with no problems - The iPhones that I want to copy it to are all the same (iPhone 5s), the app is on an iPhone 5s 16GB and I want to put it on an iPhone 5s 32GB.
    Thanks Tyler.

Thank you.  Your reply is very helpful.
I've never chosen to delete unused apps in my library because I was worried that if, in the future, one was of interest, that I'd have to re-purchase... so this is not the case then, right?  (I'd felt secure knowing that an app was stored on my computer... More than once, I've had to revert to backups and was glad to have copies of my apps safely stored away.)
I've been slow to adopt anything "cloud" so am not well versed on the benefits of using it.  So, just to be clear, if I delete an unused app in my local iTunes library, it will forever remain available in the cloud linked to my account, right?

  • Is there a way to keep iTunes library on AppleTV after sync and then...

Is there a way to keep iTunes library on AppleTV after syncing with my iTunes library on my MacBookPro and then erasing library on the MBP so that I can save HD space?
Will they just auto sync and either erase library on AppleTV or copy complete library from AppleTV to MBP?
Thank you for any insight you can give.

Is there any change on this with Take 2? I was really hoping I would be able to specify which movies are on both ATV and my computer, and which are only on ATV. I don't have enough disk space on my MBP to store all the movies I want to have on my ATV!
