Keeping iWeb album pages intact after transferring domains

My company needs to transfer iWeb sites to other computers so that multiple users can edit the sites. We know how to transfer the domains, but when the sites are opened on the other computers, the photo album pages are missing. This is obviously because those photos don't exist in the new computer's iPhoto.
My question is: Is there a way to save photo album pages to iWeb so that when the iWeb domains are transferred the photos stay intact? I don't want us to have to send photos all over the place where the new users must upload them into their own iPhoto, etc.

iWeb is a "single user" application and each user account has their own special folder and "package" file that is used by iWeb.
Multiple user accounts to one of these "packages" is very impractical.

  • IPhoto Album updating iWeb Album page

OK .. I'm lost! I created an iWeb Album page and a new matching iPhoto album to put the photos in. Now I've added new photos to the iPhoto album and they don't show up in iWeb. There is a lot of work on the iWeb page with a lot of descriptions etc and I don't want to have to delete the page and drag in the new updated album. What am I missing? How to I sync any newly added pictures in the iPhoto album with the iWeb album?
    Thanks...

The iWeb pages don't automatically update like iPhoto Web Galleries do. You will have to add the new photos to the iWeb photo page and republish that page.
If you were using a iPhoto Web Gallery in an iWeb page then all you would have to do is click on the publish button in iPhoto and the gallery would be updated when accessed via iWeb.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Web Galleries and new iWeb album pages

The new version of iWeb allows for "album" pages that serve as a collection of all the photo and mvies pages that are in a site. This is pretty slick, and allows one to re-order the photo pages exactly like one can re-order photos on one of the photo pages.
I am playing with web galleries, and notice that you can create a widget for a gallery for any iWeb page. When I do this on my album page, the widget shows up, but does not act like or interact with the other picture pages. It is simply a "widget" that sits on the page where it is placed. Has anyone figured out how to get a (link to a) gallery to act like one of the photo pages?
    -=[doug]=-

I'm searching the forum for a solution to this too; web galleries look cheap next to the albums, and there's no reason for it. Short of changing all of my albums to galleries, here's my temporary solution, but it's a half-measure:
    1) Drop a square on top of your .Mac Web Gallery widget that's just a bit larger than the widget.
    2) Select the square, and in the Inspector, go to the Graphic Inspector, and under Stroke, select Picture Frame.
    3) Select the frame that matches your album's format, then resize the square until it's just about the size of the widget, or provides the desired border width around the widget.
    4) Move the square backward, behind the widget.
    5) If desired, add a dummy album name beneath the gallery for visual continuity.
    See my example here: http://www.vehphoto.com/sandrift/Photos/Photos.html
This worked for me because I'm using a white background and white frames; your mileage may vary depending on what theme and picture frames you're using. (I can't recall if I enabled additional frames in the Inspector as described in the Keynote forums - if a matching frame appears to be missing in the Inspector, let me know and I'll double-check this.)
Still, it's a sub-optimal solution, because 1) the widget cannot be resized 2) the widget still contains the gallery name, and 3) widgets cannot be rearranged the way albums can - they probably have to be segregated from albums.
I'll be posting feedback on this at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html

  • My Iweb album page is missing 2 albums on Safari and one album on Fire fox

I have create a web site with some album pages. On One page that c0ontains 6 albums, 2 are missing when I use Safari but none are missing when I use Firefox. On a second page that contains 4 albums, 2 are missing when I use Safari and 1 is missing when I use Firefox. Cannot figure out why. The pages display properly when I publish local.
    Thanks for any possible help

I ran into this problem recently as well. In my case, the upload of the particular album glitched and did not upload properly. I simply re-uploaded the album.
It could be something as simple as an outdated cache, so another thing you should try if you haven't already is to clear the cache in each of your browsers. In Safari, choose Safari>Empty cache. In Firefox, select Firefox>Preferences and on the Privacy tab, select empty now.

  • Page names after the domain

When ever someone goes to my web site they arrive at the home (welcome) page, from there they click the relevant links to various pages. The address bar remains the same throughout, there is no /blah blah as there is on some other sites.
How do i create this scenario, so that with the right url someone could go straight to the intended page and not to the welcome page to start with.
    Thank you
    Mike

<snip> Are you forwarding a Domain name from a registrar to your .Mac url, using masked forwarding?
Thanks for that, but as a beginner that sort of stuff i am not familiar with.
What i can say is that i do not use my .mac (it expired) so as for masked forwarding i again do not know.
<snip> disable the masking and the specific page url should show in the browser with each page
From your final sentence I am pretty sure you get what i mean about the Specific page urls. (I just didn't quite know how to explain that in the first place)
If it is of any use my procedure would be:
    1. make a page in iWeb
    2. save that page to a folder on my mac
    3. Upload that folder via ftp (?) using Fetch to my webspace hosted by my ISP.
    from there it is sorted.
    Any more help please

  • Slideshows on Albums page

I am wondering if there is a way to get more options when creating a slideshow on the albums page when you put the curser on the box. I want to be able to manipulate the size of the slideshow box more than what I can now on the albums page. I also want to be able to adjust the speed of the transitions. I have done all I can do in the inspector and in the pop up menu when you select the album. Is there a way to further my options or possibly another way to add slideshows to my site other than using the iWeb template?

it can be done in iweb but you need to understand how iweb widgets work, here is my example of iweb albums page (auto start):

  • HP Color LaserJet CP3525n keeps printing blank pages without stopping

Hi, I'm having trouble with this printer, it keeps printing blank pages one after anotther as soon as it is turned on. Some pages are completely blank others have smiley faces and other characters on it. And it keeps doing this even after it has been restarted. Any idea how to fix this problem?

    1. take out all of the ink cartriges and look at the big black roller on the door for streaking, if streaking, clean with a lint free cloth dampened with windex (window cleaner) then close the door.
    2. let it run to initializing.
    3. open the door and look and the black roller on the door to see if you have streaking. If no streaking put one cartridge in and close the door and repeat the steps until you find what cartridge is causing the problem.
I did this and found that my cyan was creating the lines on my paper. I cleaned the cyan roller with a Qtip and some rubbing alcohol and it works fine now, no more lines on the paper.
    Cheers

  • I checked do not track but when I reboot it's unchecked. I can't keep the main page MSNBC when I reboot after making it my start page. I asked to clear history on exit but when I reboot it back at never delete.

When I reboot after checking the box NOT to track it is unchecked. After making MSNBC my starting page and I reboot it goes back to Mozilla Firefox and another tab comes up with it Mozilla Firefox Start Page, how do I get rid of the second tab and keep MSNBC? I also selected to NEVER keep history to delete it when I exit and after rebooting it has keep history.
    Thanks,
    DG

    Try the following:
    close iWeb.
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    reboot.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • IWeb 08 : Album pages and Text not showing up anymore

    Hey guys,
I work for a local television company and created a page for one of our shows. I have been publishing the website with no problems and then all of a sudden recently my albums pages are not showing the albums or pictures. Click here..
    http://www.askgodtv.com/AskGod_TV/Photos/Photos.html
The pictures are on that page when I am editing in iWeb, but not when I publish or a folder or upload it to my website. Does anyone know why this would be or are having similar problems?
Also, the text on one of my pages is all out of line when I publish, but perfectly correct on my page. This page is also not showing the album I have posted. Click here...
    http://www.askgodtv.com/AskGodTV/On_Set/OnSet.html
I switched in the middle of making this website from iWeb 06 to iWeb 08, but I didn't have these problems at first, so I don't think it was the upgrade.
I did do some things with the domain (copy, save to an outside hard drive, to try to transfer it to another computer) and the problems did start shortly after that. But I didn't really mess with the domain file on my computer, so it shouldn't have created a problem.
Please fill me in ASAP if you have any insight because my boss is just as frustrated as I am!
    Thanks
    Laura

    Hi Laura,
I get a "The page can not be found" message clicking on both links.
You might try to republish/re-upload the whole page
    A. If publishing to .mac go to File=>Publish All. Or try to publish to a folder and open it from there to see if it works.
    B. If publishing to a folder: do they work when opening from the folder? If so reupload everything.
    Regards,

  • How can I replace just the corrupt page(s) in the domain file of iWeb using Time Machine?

I back up with Time Machine and have an extensive elaborate website I created in iWeb '09 over a couple months and publish to a local folder and then upload to my server, but in the last few days I notice certain pages (that I haven't even worked on or touched) somehow become corrupted or "cross-contaminated" with elements and images from other pages.  Once I see they are corrupt I make sure not to publish them (if the current published versions are the correct, non-corrupt versions) or if they did get published I can use Time Machine to retrieve the .html file and page files folder for that specific page and replace it in my published folder/server so it shows correctly on the Web.  However, that does not replace the corrupted page(s) you see and work with when you launch iWeb and try to edit or continue working on that page.
I am confused as to how I go to the package contents of the domain file and replace just that page with a previous version from time machine.  I don't want to replace the entire domain file because I have new changes I made to other pages even in the past hours.  How can I keep the good pages and just get earlier, non-corrupted versions of the corrupt page(s)? I know it's not as easy as with the published site folder where you can just replace the page's .html file and folder, but I don't want to have to re-create the corrupted page(s) from scratch or have to replace it with the last non-corrupted domain file and then have to redo all my recent changes to new pages I made before discovering the corrupt page(s).  Thanks for your help as now I can't make changes to the page(s) within iWeb itself.

Thanks for the response, Wyodor.  I don't know what that is, but I'll have a look.  Is it an alternative to iWeb or a way to transfer pre-existing iWeb sites?  When you say merge domain files, is that like so multiple copies of the same site show up then you can pick and choose the non-corrupted pages and group them then delete the corrupted ones?  I am on Snow Leopard with no plans or need to upgrade anytime soon.
And yes, I will read your links but just wanted to ask those questions.  Maybe they'll answer my questions, maybe not.
I was able to discern that within the domain file is a domain folder with all the site folders, each with their own page ".gz" files which expand into ".xml" files.  I was trying to figure out if you could simply drag the corrupt pages out that way and replace them with backup copies that are still good.  I am having trouble discerning which pages are which as they all have random names like site-page-30F175E3-AE33-4F10-A490-1A096D9B185B.xml and although I expanded and opened each in Text Wrangler, I still couldn't discern which were which for sure, and trial and error proved cumbersome.  Also, I did notice some of the later corrupted domain files had one or two more pages than the site itself has, so not sure how they got added or duplicated or what.
Again, I'll look at your links, but do you know about swapping out individual page .xml files this way within the domain file?

  • Pictures in iWeb albums disappeared after change location of original files

I created many albums in iWeb by dragging albums from iPhoto. But then I noticed some pictures from my iWeb albums disappeared after the original pictures got removed to another location (or deleted). How can I tell iWeb to make a copy of the pictures in iWeb itself so my iWeb albums can stay the same even when i need to reorganize the original files on the hard drive?
Any suggestions on how to restoring my albums in iWeb? I am having a bit headache now. Thank you very much!

That is not normal behavior. The photos should stay in iWeb even if you delete them from iPhoto. Are you running a "referenced" library or a "managed" one?
Managed is the default option. If you're running a reference library that may be the reason. If so contact Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html and http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
Unless you have a backup of your domain file predating the loss of the photos I don't know how you will recover the photos.

  • Photo subpages disappearing from album page in iWeb 2009

One of the pages of my website is an album page. Theoretically, an album page should allow multiple photo subpages. Initially my album had two photo subpages. Now, however, I want to add additional subpages.
The problem I'm encountering is that these new subpages keep disappearing. Every time I quit and reopen iWeb, the original two subpages and any subpages created in the last session are present, but any subpages created in earlier sessions have disappeared. The disappeared subpages show up in the column of created pages on the left-hand side of iWeb, but they do not appear in the album page, and all photo content for the subpages has disappeared (although formatting and text boxes are unchanged).
I've tried multiple strategies to get around the disappearing page problem: duplicating existing album subpages, adding a new page within the album, adding a new page outside the album and then dragging it into the album, deleting the iWeb plist file and restarting the computer the page.
Any ideas how to fix this?

  • My Albums pages display incorrectly from personal domain URL

Pages on my iWeb website, created using the My Albums template, do not consistently display all the individual albums; one or more, or even all may be missing.
If I use the web.mac.com URL, e.g. http://web.mac.com/wpinnington/Photos/Holidays/Holidays.html the gallery pages always load properly; the problem only occurs when I use my personal domain URL, e.g. http://www.williampinnington.com/Photos/Holidays/Holidays.html.
I have discovered a work-around, which is to:
    1) Create a new My Album page;
    2) Move individual photo pages into the new My Album page;
    3) Save;
    4) Move the individual photo pages back to the original gallery page;
    5) Save; and
    6) Republish
I'd like to know what the problem is though, so I can avoid this tedious chore. The problem occurs in both Firefox and Safari, so is not browser related. Firefox Error Console says "Error: uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method XMLHttpRequest.open." Safari also reports "Error: Permission denied http://www.williampinnington.com/Photos/Scripts/iWebSite.js (line 504)". Line 504 reads "req.open('GET',url,true);req.setRequestHeader('X-Requested-With','XMLHttpReque st');if(req.overrideMimeType)"
Can anyone shed any light on the root-cause of the problem? I assume there is a problem with the error handling in the iWeb code which creates the iWebSite.js file.
    Kind regards,
    William
P.S. I will leave the example URL broken for 48 hours before I fix it, so you can see for yourself.

Because of security issues, XMLHttpRequest is not allowed cross domain request, this is to avoid cross domain scripting.
So as long as you mask your domain, XMLHttpRequest will fail.
