Keeping keywords and rating 'stars' a permanent part of RAW files

I store RAW files on a portable HD.
I use it for both desktop and laptop.
Keywords and rating 'stars' entered on one machine do not appear when using the other.
How can i make the keywords and rating 'stars' transferrable from one machine to another?

I had a chance to talk to product managers from both Apple & Adobe about this at PhotoPlus Expo in NYC a couple years back. Both seemed receptive, but here we are - years later - no progress.
I think part of the problem is that there's a purist mentality about RAW files. One should always shoot them - and then keep them forever- after all- they're your negatives!
But what about event photography? Or weddings, as you pointed out? It makes no sense to burden your workflow & backup system with 4GB of RAW files of people grinning into the camera. Once the adjustments have been made, the RAW files are just a ball & chain on your data management. And let's not forget, once you really know what you're doing, your jpegs should be good most of the time anyway.
I want RAW files as a safety net for errors in exposure and white balance. Once I know I have good photos, I don't need the safety net anymore- at least not at the price of all that hard disk space and transfer time for online backup. Of course, for my fine art stuff and important documentary work, I'll always keep the RAWs permanently. But not for routine parties/events.
You put your finger on the problem with re-importing jpegs as a solution. You lose your metadata- rankings/album memberships, etc. This is no solution!
What I want is simple, and it would be immediately useful to countless photographers:
1) Let me batch-delete RAW files when the jpegs are ok.
2) Let me do adjustments on my RAW file, render out a high-quality jpeg, and make the jpeg my new master.
Whoever does this first - Aperture or Lightroom - that's the product I'll use.

this is what you need to do to exclude everything apart from desktop.
on time machine preferences, click on Options
click plus sign, on the new window, click macintosh HD
do a Control + A then deselect users then click okay
go to options again, plus sign, go to users, control +A then deselect your user account
go to options again, plus sign, go to your user account, control + A, deselect desktop
start the back up.

The Olympus Stylus 1 was first supported in Camera Raw 8.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and CC.
It is not compatible with CS5 or older and never will be.
If you do not want to upgrade to CS6 or CC then you can dwonload the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all Stylus 1 Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5.

FCE can use DV or AIC video formats natively. Any other format will need to be converted to one of those two if you want to avoid constant rendering. The clips you use must match the Sequence settings.

You should have Bridge CC installed for CC 2014.
In Windows, right-click on a raw file, and select "choose default program". Photoshop CC 2014 should be listed. Select it. "Always open this file with this program" should also be checkmarked.
If CC 2014 is not on the list, look for the Browse button at the bottom and go to Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CC2014 and click on the Photoshop CC 2014.exe to choose it and add to the list.
In Bridge CC Edit > Preferences > File Type Associations, look for your raw file type (CR2 or Nef) and select Photoshop CC 2014 deom the drop-down menu.

I do not use lightroom and I have a subscription so I can open all supported RAW formats. You will need DNG file for Your Camera's NEF files for use in Photoshop ACR version. You can open your NEF files in LR it seems so you could do all your raw conversion with Lightroom and save out Tiff files for processing in Photoshop. I do use lightroom for I do not need its library. Lightroom does not support layered files so lightroom is of no value to me. ACR UI is all I need having a second interface to Adobe Raw Conversion Engine would more annoyance than value to me.

I'd be careful here: LR references files. It can copy them, like from an SD card to your hard drive, but it doesn't necessarily make duplicates. So when you say you "transferred" those files "into" LR it just means you referenced existing files. And if you delete those they're gone, unless you've made copies. LR does not import files by copying them into a managed library like Aperture does.

How do I sort by Keywords and Rating at the same time?

Hi guys,
I know this is probably basic, but I have put keywords to a recent trip to Argentina and star rated the ones I enjoyed the most. Now I want to see pictures from Argentina (keyword), in the mountains (another keyword) and that are rated with 5 stars .
Could someone please give me a hand?

I'm in complete agreement with JoeyD. Hit counters add nothing special to a typical site. Since they don't tell you where your hits are coming from or whether or not these are unique hits, I see no point in them.
@ Shocker. Your argument doesn't hold water. A regular web site is NOT the same as a web forum or blog where user participation is part of the whole experience. It's like comparing oranges to ducks - totally different.
If you look closely at Adobe's main web site or any other commercial site like Apple or Dell you're not likely to see hit counters on them. Why? Because they're irrelevant. The only people who care about site traffic are site owners and developers.
