Keeping nav bars highlighted while using Pop-up menus

How do I get navigation bars to stay highlighted while the
mouse is over the pop-up menu in Dreamweaver 8 and Fireworks 8. I
found directions on the Adobe Website, but it only works for the MX
versions, as the codes are different. Navigation bars and pop-up
menus were created in Fireworks and exported to Dreamweaver.

Computer keeps going to sleep while using compressor

I have been using compressor for years to compress my video files. I edit the videos during the day and I let Compressor run all night long. Last night when I tried to run compressor over night something happened and I am hoping someone out there can help me out. What happened is that after a few minutes (probably 30 or less) my computer went to sleep. I have the computer settings set to never sleep, and it never does. Except now I find that when I run compressor, for some reason it goes to sleep. I can wake it up using the mouse, but that is not productive for overnight batch jobs. I even tried installing "jiggler" a program designed to move your mouse for you, but that didnt work. The computer still falls asleep. Does anyone know what is going on or how I might fix this problem?
I am using final cut Pro 5.0.4 and Compressor 2.0.1

I got this issue resolved. It turns out that the computer was overheating while using the processor intense compressor program. All I had to do was to open it up and clean the dust out and off of the heat sinks. Who knew that such a simple solution would stump so many people.

Keeping Keynote Full Screen while Using Other Apps

I searched around and wasn't able to find much of anything on this topic anywhere. I am looking to do Keynote presentations in full screen. While the presentation is in full screen I would like to use other applications on the display which I can see.
I activated the preference to allow other things like Expose control the screen, but when I switch applications it takes Keynote out of full screen mode. Anybody have any ideas as to how to keep it in full screen mode while in a different application? Thanks.

Depending on how you have your displays arranged, you might be able to use Dashboard on your presenter display while the presentation is running (you may need to use this technique to get that to work properly). However, as I understand it, applications do not come with the ability to float over Keynote by default, but must be explicitly written to do so. I therefore doubt that any off-the-shelf app will be useable directly in this way.

Why does my iPad 2 keep on automatically locking while using anything ?

While I'm using my iPad, it automatically locks for some reason. Even when I'm just playing apps or swiping the screen , I need help to fix it ?

1. Close all inactive apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo.

Basically the developer can fix this by digitally signing their apps. However you can exempt an app, in the article linked above look for the section titled "How to open an app from a unidentified developer and exempt it from Gatekeeper"

How can I keep windows in front while using other apps?

I want to keep a Preview window in front of all windows while I work in photoshop, how can I do that? I know it is possible, because I saw an artist do it on youtube. He had his references opened up in Preview, while working photohsop, and the Preview window some how stays above the Photoshop window. I know I can just have them side by side by using photoshop in window mode, and shtinking it into a half sized window, but I have porblem rotating the canvas and it is just to small to work when it is like that. He mangaed to use phoshop in full window mode (fills the whole screen) and still have his preview window stay in front. I asked him but I got no reply. So I was hoping some here would know.

Yeah, I was also using Afloat before updating to Lion, but now it seems it is not compatible anymore. Mac should have that function (keep a window on top) built in - such an easy thing and so helpful, much more than all claimed "productivity" apps etc. Linux has it since always...

Is keeping Bridge current necessary while using the Lightroom-CS6 Workflow

I totally get and daily use the LR4 to CS6 workflow, although I'd consider myself not much more than a beginner with PS. My question is - is there a need when adding photos to the LR database, to at the same time (or at some point), make sure that all the files are going to an accessible (can follow the path/find the photo) in BR? Or can I just forget about Br and just keep using a very understandible and efficient workflow? Further, if there is a reason to keep BR current, can it be automated to populate appropriate files so that if I add photos to LR, they will easily be found in BR, without me having to do any additional moving/importing of files to BR? Also, if I need to have BR current, how would I use it in a workflow that mainly incorporates LR and PS6? Lastly, if there is a way of getting photos to go to BR from LR(or accessed/seen by BR is probably more appropriate), if I have done the ratings and keywords in LR, will these be transferrable to BR somehow- again, preferrably using some type of action/automation in the background? Thanks very much in advance for your comments.

When you have Lr and Photoshop you don't need Bridge at all for your workflow.
When you work with Lr 4.3 and CS6 a Raw image that you intend to edit in CS6 will open as Raw in CS6 (bypassing Bridge) - but when you save a PSD (or TIFF) will be created.
And when you just <save> - versus <save as> - your image will automatically show up in Lr. Bridge doesn't even open during that "roundtrip" from Lr to CS and back to Lr.
As twenty-one has already said: Bridge is a file-browser type of program. That means it "sees" whatever is on the hard drive, no matter by which progam it has been put there.
Lr is not a file-browser based program. It "sees" images only when they have been imported in Lr. If they have not been importent they don't exist for Lr - even if they are on the hard drive.
So Bridge can be used as an auxiliary program to check out which images are actually on the hard drive. And that can be very useful - particularly when you are still learning to work with Lr.
Another advantage is that Bridge supports more file formats than Lr. Lr works only with Raw images, JPGs, TIFFs, PSDs. For instance, Lr doesn't work with PDFs and doesn't display them, whereas Bridge does.
Writing metadata to file (or synonym: write changes to xmp) in order that Bridge will display the Lr edits is quite straightforward in Lr. There is no need to "associate them with the appropriate raw file". Lr does that for you.
You can set Lr to <Automatically write changes to XMP>, or do it manually for a single or multiple images by pressing Ctr. / Cmd. + letter S on the keyboard. That's all.
Stars and keywords will be included in the metadata, and also titles, captions and all EXIF data. For color labels to transfer correctly between Lr and Bridge you need to describe the labels in exactly the same way (including hyphens, undersscores, etc) in both programs.
But there are features in Lr that are not saved to xmp, not saved to file. These are: that an image belongs to a collection, virtual copies, stacking.
They are not saved to xmp because Bridge doesn't have these features, and so could not display them even if they were saved.

Is it ok to keep Satellite U500 closed while using external monitor?

I have a Satellite U500.
When at home, I use an external monitor and a keyboard. So I would close the laptop while working at home.
Can I do this, or would it damage the screen, or otherwise hinder the laptop from correctly ventilating in any way ?

Of course you can close the lid when the notebook is connected to the external monitor.
I have a Satellite notebook as well and its connected to the external monitor.
I have also an USB keyboard.
I use external keyboard instead of internal notebook keyboard and lid is closed too
So dont worried its ok!

Do I need to keep my Mac running while using iTunes match on iOS devices?

I'm considering subscribing to iTunes Match. Currently all my music is stored on a Macbook. Suppose I upload/match this music with iTunes Match. Can I then listen to the music on my iPhone/iPad even while the Macbook is off or do I need to keep the Macbook running (and connected to the Internet) while I'm listening to music?

Yes once the music is on a device (iPad, Iphone, iPod) you don't need to have your Mac running to listen to music. This is true if you do Match or just sync with iTunes. Once the music is on the IOS device or on the iCloud (so it can be downloaded) you do not have to keep your MAC up and connected to the Internet.

Iphone 5S lightning to 30 pin adapter - too short to keep on the case while using it! :(

I just realized the adapter I need to connect the media station on my car (Audi A8) can only be used by taking the phone off from the case (Iphone 5S case blue color) : why the pin cannot be done a little longer, so to avoid taking the case off every time I need to recharge or to listen to my music ?
This make no sense...
The cable supplied by Apple is not suiting at its best when the cable from Belkin is pefectly working, I don't need to take the phone off from the case if I need to recharge!

How to total amounts from different categories using pop-up menus?

I am working on personal financing using Numbers for the first time. I have formated the "Category" cells in the "Transactions" table to be pop-up. Meaning ... I click on the cell and select the appropriate category (Bills, loans, grocery, eating out, etc.) How do I get the amount that I've entered for certain categories to populate into the "Acount Categories" table? Ex -- Moving $1.06 from the "Transactions" table to the "Account Categories" table. Eventually, there will be multiple entries for each category and I want a total to show up in the upper table which I have already formated to turn into a pie chart. Thanks.

The formula in cell B2 of Account categories was originally: =SUMIF(Transactions :: $D,A2,Transactions :: E)
You have apparently deleted column A of Transactions, so the formula needs revision to accomodate that change.
Account Categories::B2: =SUMIF(Transactions :: $C,A2,Transactions :: D)
Fill the formula down to B9.
Items in the list in column A of Account Categories must exactly match those in the list in the pop-up menu cells in column C of Transactions. Remember to include "Deposit" in the menus to mark an amount that will not be included in the Account Categories table. You can also include a menu item such as "Choose", "-" or " " (single space) to use as the default value for unused rows.

Using pop up menus

I'm kinda new to numbers on my iPad. I'm trying to change values in cells based upon the selection of a pop up menu. I'm sure this is simple, what am I missing?
I have about 50 items (prices, descriptions, etc) and would like to create a pop up on sheet1 that will bring forward the correct values in subsequent cells....

I can create the pop up list, but I want to figure out how to change the other cells based on the content of the pop up.
For instance, product xxx is selected from the pop up list in a1, I would want a2 to show the corresponding price (as listed on sheet2) and the correct manufacturer and description in a3 and a4. All of the info is in a table on sheet2 so the function on sheet1 would bring forward the correct row of information that corresponds to product xxx's row on sheet2.

Is it advisable to keep the mac connected to the plug as often as possible while using it? (to keep the battery at 100%)

Reading the advises on the battery (long) life it looks like the main parameter of interest for evaluating the battery performance are the cycle counts.
This also means there it is better to always keep the battery charged while using the mac in order to never let it discharge consuming cycles.
Is it really advisable? Aren't there some possible drawbacks in doing so?
(Risks due to higher temperature, risk of battery malfunctions..)

In the ~15 years I've been lurking here, there seems to be one recurring theme to posts about battery failure: the statement "I don't understand why my battery died! I never use the computer on battery power!"
As OGELTHORPE points out, use the battery every so often. I try to get 1-2 cycles on mine per month. How you do it depends on your usage pattern. I use mine at a museum where I volunteer one a week and the battery has more than enough capacity to power my MBP through my shift.
Think of your battery in term of human muscles: if we do not exercise a muscle, it will atrophy and become disabled. So it is with your MBP battery.

FWs Nav Bar - Make Hyperlinks

I am currently making a website and I have created a nav bar
in fireworks using slices and pop-up menus etc. Anyway I have
imported it to my website in Dreamweaver, but I cant figure out how
to make a hyperlink from the from down and nav bar buttons to the
corresponding page. Do I make the links in Fireworks? If so, how?
In Dreamweaver also how?

It would be easiest to add the hyperlinks in Fireworks, which
you can do in the pop-up menu editor (same place you entered the
text for the buttons).
If you wanted to add the links in Dreamweaver you'd have to
do it in source-code view. Search for the text that you entered for
the button name, and Fireworks should have entered a pound/hash
symbol (#) for your link (don't quote me on that though). Replace
that with your page link and you should be good to go.
Someone should be along shortly to tell you that the
Fireworks menus suck though, so stand by for that.
