Keeping Satellite C55-B901 plugged in even when battery is 100%

Hi,
I just bought a Toshiba Satellite c55-b901, and i was wondering whether it is fine to keep the laptop plugged in even after the battery is fully charged or not. Would that affect the battery's life or is it okay.
I also have a cooling pad that keeps the laptop cool.
Would you recommend i keep it plugged in, keep using it when it is 100% and only recharge when 10% and stop when 100%, or use it both ways as i like?
Thanks in advance!

Do you know the software called Battery Manager?
As far as I know its part of the Toshiba power saver and it should be preinstalled on the Toshiba notebooks. This tools helps you to handle the battery properly and to increase the battery life time.
Nevertheless, the battery should be calibrated from time to time to keep a good battery performance as well as to increase the battery life time.
To calibrate the battery, you should run the notebook at battery power until the battery would be fully empty. Then connect the AC adaptor and charge it until the battery indicator would switch to green (or blue depending on the notebook model).

no it will not, your battery stops charging when it reaches 100%.  you can verify this if you'd like to through system report - power.
once in a while however, it's best to use it under it's own power and charge it back up once it's down to 75% to keep the battery in optimal condition.

Please help me!! (The same thing happened on this device and when I reset it, it worked....why isn't my iPad 3rd gen. Working...?)

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

Try inserting and removing headphones in succession 6-7 times.
If this does not work, take it to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider and have them evaluate it.

  • Macbook only on when AC is plugged in, even though battery 100%

    Hello,
I have had my Mac since december 2006 and it has worked perfectly, suddenly my laptop won't start up without A.C plugged in !
My battery is 100 % full, when i try to start up without AC i normally get the sound of the disks and fans spinning and a slight part of the welcome chime then it cuts dead. I see no screen either. With the AC it works fine. So it seems to me that the problem is not the battery but the laptop itself. I went into the 'System Profiler' to have a look at what it said, the only thing that i thought might be odd was that UPS was not installed (Uninterruptible Power Supply). Is This a problem ?
    Thanks T.Gibbs
P.S if i can't find the solution on here what do i do ? I live quite far from an apple store and so don't have a chance to go and speak to someone there, my 90 day phone support has run out. I don't know how to contact someone about this ?
    Macbook 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo - 2GB Ram - 120 GB Hard Drive   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

The MacBook does not have a UPS built in. That would be in something like a desk top.
You might try to reset the SMC and/or PRAM.

IPad 4 switches off when i am using it, even when battery is fully charged.  Restore function (holding down both buttons) often does not work.  Cannot power up iPad.  I have updated software, restarted computer, but no success.  I did restore the iPad about 8 times during the past 2 weeks.  Just completed another restore.  iTunes says the the iPad has been restored and will restart automatically and appear in iTunes when it is ready.  That was 30 minutes ago.  iPad still won't start.  I am looking down the barrel of yet another fruitless restore.  What a crap product.

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple logo.

  • Can I keep the power cord plugged in when battery reaches 100%l?

    Hello,
I'm assuming the battery stops recharging when it reaches 100%, right? In other words I can keep the power chord plugged in without any risk of "overcharging". Correct?
    Thanks.

Helpful, thanks. FYI, 2 Apple agents at Mac support have advised otherwise (said I have to remove the cord).
How bizarre....I have a 2.5 year old MacBook that gets great battery life (~4hrs) and begs to differ. Anyway, Thanks for the Star!

  • I keep getting "startup disk full" message even when I already moved all my files/documents to an external hard disk

    Dear all,
What should I do? I keep getting the "startup disk full" message even when I already moved all my files and documents to an external hard disk.
    Thanks a heap.

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning your files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Podcast keeps connecting to the mobile network even when I have set up Podcast to download only from Wifi

I hope someone can help me.
I am really tired, fed up, with this Podcast application's behaviour. I have set up, both from the Podcats Settings and Mobile Network Settings that Podcast should NEVER use Mobile Networks for any download, it should only use WiFi.
After doing that as soon as I open Podcast, if I check Mobile Networks configuration, or Podcast config, I see that again, by itself!!!, Mobile Networks for Podcast is ACTIVATED (even when the iPhone is connected to WiFi)
Apple people, this is costing me money!!! And this strange (silent and from the back) behaviour, against the user settings, looks more and more like fraud (as when I apply the settings I define clearly my intentions of not downloading from the network, but your Apple's Podcast Application keep changing it against my will)
I wish someone can help me to stop this application to revel against the user's will.

It is not properly connected to the network.
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be on auto (settings - general - network)
    Try ethernet
Signal strength on device won't account for issues, you would need a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show accurate signal strength along with noise and nearby networks

  • Satellite C55-A doesn't work on battery power

    HI
    I HAVE AN TOSHIBA SATELLITE C55A (PSCG8E).
AFTER BATTERY FULLY CHARGED WHEN I UNPLUG THE AC ADAPTER THE COMPUTER SHUTDOWN.
I HAVE ALREADY CHANGED THE BATTERY AND NOW I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
ANY UPDATE OF THE BIOS FOR THIS PROBLEM ?

    Hi
It looks like the battery shows you that its fully charged but indeed its not.
Its looks strange to me that the same issue appears using new battery.
However, since the Satellite C55-A series is new on the market and warranty is valid, I recommend contacting the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country to check the battery and other notebook hardware.
I assume you will need another, new battery but this should be done free of charge
