Keeping Scanned Pictures Organized

I'm scanning in my Dad's slides - who was very bad on dating things. Thus I have, for example, 9 boxes of slides developed in July of 1966.
I would like to scan them in, give them a tentative date of July 1966, but also ensure that all the slides in box 1 stay together when displayed and in
the order they were taken. Is there an easy way to do this? And what happens if I figure out that slides 9,10, and 11 were taken 15 June 1966 - is there a way to ensure that slides 1-8 stay displayed before those and slides 12-24 stay displayed after them? I would rather not enter DDMMYY when the DD (and the MM) may be in question.

To answer some of the questions contained in the responses by MichelBParis and dj_paige.
1) Yes I'm using a scanner program and then adding the folder to PSE. I'm giving the files names in the format of YYYY_MM_BX#_SEQID. I was using a Directory structure of YYYY_MM.
2) Yes, I've been applying tags (names, places)
3) The reason for trying to keep "boxes" in the context was for two reasons 1) that if I later found a picture in my Mom's files (who did date everything) that matched one in my Dad's then I could better date the box and 2) my Dad was a procrastinator, I found a box of 24 xmas pictures developed in April - so I'm working with the assumption that the develop date may be within a year of the actual date taken.
4) I hadn't considered using the caption field for notes and photo description - I think I'll give that a try.
5) Creating Tags for boxes was something I had considered - and was trying to avoid becuase of the number of Tags I'd be creating - I may need to reconsider that.

I was a bit short, Chris, sorry. It is limited, what can be posted, when typing on an iPad.
Now I am back on my Mac. I meant the following: Batch Change the date for a large range of photos, that should have a date stepped in increments.
Select all Photos at once and use the command "Photos > Batch Change".
Then set the date for the first photo and select an increment, e.g. one minute.
Now all photos will get a new date assigned, incremented by one minute, in the sequence you have selected. So you will be able to sort them by date. This way it will be unnecessary to change the titles or filenames.

I want to burn a DVD and keep the pictures in the files

I am using iPhoto 8. I have 46 albums that I created for one vacation. I have organized all of the pictures from 5 cameras and want to burn a DVD keeping the pictures in those albums so others can create a slideshow from them. When I burned a DVD the files did not show up, so all of the work was for nothing. How can I burn the DVD and keep the files intact so other people do not need to do the same work that I have already completed?

As Terence mentioned for those with Macs and iPhoto select the albums you've created and use the Share ➙ Burn menu option. This will create a mini library on the disk that others can view in iPhoto and run slideshows from the photos in the album or copy those albums into their library for more control.

Scanning Pictures for HD Project I Need Advice

I am about to *Scan Pictures for HD Project* I Need Advice. The scanner is a HP Scanjet G4050 my questions are:
1: At what resolution do I scan these pictures _+(300 or highest dpi available)+_
2: What color choice is necessary *(RGB vs CMYK)*
3: Can you please suggest points for creating a backdrop for the pictures (various sizes) in the Timeline

Scan the picture like you normally would. If the vertical resolution is 1080, you are fine. Don't worry about the 1280 width as black will be in that area not taken up with the photo. That part won't matter if it isn't 1280 if it is a vertical picture. If you don't have at least 1080 high, you might want to re-scan at a higher resolution. If you have it say, 2000 pixels high really no big deal except you don't need it that high and all that extra size slows down your system. If you want it at a lower resolution after you scan go into Photoshop->Image->Image size. Be sure and check "Constrain Proportions" before you change the dimensions in the top box for the height (where you are best using the units as pixels) That way the picture will stay in proportion. Don't use this second method to 'add' more pixels as the quality suffers when you go up this way. Rescan if you want MORE pixels.
All the above is talking about vertical pictures. If you have a really wide photo that is not very tall, use the same principle but keep the width constant. For example let's say you have a 2x6 inch photo. Make sure the width is at least 1280 pixels. Don't worry that the height will be less than 1080 because black will take up that space.
If you are going to do any zoom in and/or panning across a picture, you'll need to make sure it has more than the minimum pixels. For me a little goes a long way, so I zoom in slowly maybe 10-15%.

HP 1410 all-in-one Scanned Pictures not Saved

Recently upgraded my pc to windows 8.1 but the HP 1410 all-in-one printer scanner will not save scanned pictures. I attempt to "scan to file" but when I click finish I receive the option to scan more pictures or end (done). W"done" when I click done the "solution center" app returns to its home screen.
All other scanning properties are functioning correctly.

Please first try running the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results. Please let me know the outcome!

Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

It's important that you have a steady WiFi connection, ZealousEdge. What phone do you have? Is your phone unable to connect to any WiFi network? If you can, please try deleting the saved WiFi network and re-adding it.

It's either in local folders, as it seem you had been doing, or in icloud. If you go into the mac's Pages and view the icloud files, you can drag on onto another to create a folder. But you can only have folder one level deep, so you can't organize your files/folders like you can on a mac, using nested folder several levels deep.

As what file type are those scanned pictures saved?
You should be able to open them in Firefox via File > Open File if it are JPG images.<br />
If the scanner saved them in a special proprietary format then you need to convert them to JPG with the scanner software.

Keeping a picture together with a certain paragraph of text

I think this is probably a very rookie question but I am having a problem keeping my pictures where I want them. I need them to stay together with a certain paragraphs of text.
A- "Lock position" doesn't work. I don't care where in the doc. they are as long as they stay with the right text.
B- Anchored objects don't seem to be the answer, I want to do text wraps around the picture.
All suggestions are appreciated.

No, that's not a problem, as long as the anchor is in the right place. Use a "custom" andchored object, rather than inline, and make sure the anchor is in a line ahead of the ones you want to wrap. A custom anchored object can be moved anywhere on the page and will continue to move with the anchor point.
The illustration below shows two anchored objects with text wrap applied. The anchors are the first characters in the Notes: paragraph, and the postions are set as part of an object style that includes the text wrap, font (for the caption) and position information. The anchored object options dialog dispalyed is for the caption.
In this case I didn't need to worry about wrapping the top, but pushing the image down on the page gives you this:

And today it won't even read my camera's sd card, and I try with 2 different ones. If I restart the computer, leaving the memory card in, then it reads it; but if I pull it out and push it back in it doesn't see it. Whath am I doing wrong, if anything?

Where/how are you trying to change the name? If it is in Finder (after you've downloaded the pics to your desktop), highlight the pic icon and press Return. the name field will change and you can type in your new name. Hit Return again. That should make it "stick". If you're trying to do it elsewhere, please post the steps that you've tried.
As for your card: do you eject it properly? Either drag icon to trash or hit the eject symbol in the sidebar?

I see you are experiencing scan issues. I would like to help!
I would recommend checking to ensure there is no past alignments sheets on the scan glass from the setup, and perform a power reset. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

You can't upload the PDF but you can link to a PDF. This blog post on How to upload a PDF file to Facebook explains an easy way to do this using either Acrobat or the free Reader.

Scanning and Copying result in all black and lines. (with link to the scanned picture)

Whatever I try to scan and copy, even blank, the result is the same all black and full of lines.

The printer hasn't been used in a while, I just used it recently and the ink even dried out. Bought ink and printer's working fine.
