Keeping track of image backups

Hi there,
Apple's Aperture has it, Adobe's Lightroom needs it: A function to keep track of where you have stored a backup of your image files!
When importing new pictures to Lightroom you can select an option which saves them to an additional harddrive for backup.
Why doesn't Lightroom save that place together with the image in the catalogue, so that when a harddrive of yours crashes, Lightroom tells you to not panic, because a backup of these files is stored on Drive XY?!
best whishes,
Christian

Interesting thought - it sounds like a good candidate for a feature request.
You can fill that out here:

In my experience, Adobe is fairly responsive (or at least as responsive as a large software company can be) to the requests of its user base.

  • Keep track of images and links in a datafile

    Hi,
I have set up replication between my source and destination server. How do images and contents linked in a webpage section replicate?
I think images and content reffred should be replicated seperately, as a datafile doesnot have a refrence telling images reffered should be moved.
Now the question is how to move Images and contents that are linked in the webpage along with datafiles.
One solution is to use SiteStudio section replication. If we use that how to make sure this goes through a work flow and then gets replicated?
    your inputs willl be usefull

This seems somewhat like an architecture question. Let's assume you have two servers (I'll call them staging and production). You have set the Site Studio Migration Utility to automatically replicate content associated with your site from staging to production. Now in our example, on staging there is a datafile with various images and links to native content that users regularly update. You have a workflow layer applied to all datafiles of your site so that content isn't migrated into production until it has been workflow approved. I'm assuming this is how you are set up (since this is a commonly recommended architecture).
Now back to the datafile. I'm assuming the images in the datafile (as well as any linked native content) have site specific metadata applied to them, so that the Site Studio Migration utility replicates them into production just like migrates other areas of your site. If that is the case, then it is the responsibility of the workflow approver to verify that all images (and document links) look right before approving the content for auto migration.
Unfortunately, you may run into a situation like the following... You have a page that lists sales figures every month, and uses an image to visualize those sales figures. You already have a datafile in production for February as well as the associated February graphic. You create an updated sales figure datafile for March, as well as an updated associated image for March. The image migrates into production automatically, before the updated datafile referencing the updated image clears workflow. Your February sales figure page could potentially have the March sales image inside of it. This is a potential problem since there is no concept of a "group approval" for all elements that make up the contents within a datafile. You could add a layer of workflow to all native content and images, but then you'd have to be fairly certain that you were synched up properly. You could also manually migrate, but I can see where this would not be ideal either. Unfortunately, there is no easy answer.

  • Importing Images as Referenced and Keeping track of Imported Folders.

I'm not sure how to even go about describing this issue other than to relate it to the way Lightroom handles the same situation. I'm trying to figure out how to keep track of the specific folders of images I Import in to Aperture to make sure that all have been imported properly. In Lightroom, in the left panel, you see an exact replica of the folders/images as they appear on the drives thay were Imported from. You then have the option of creating your own specific Gallery of Images, something similar to Projects,  that show up below the Imported folder tree.
In Aperture, there is no way to see the folder structure that the images came from that I know of. When importing thousands of images this can get very confusing and lead to missing groups of images. Images that nver get Imported. Does anyone know if we can set Aperture up in a similar fashion as Lightroom or does anyone know if a workaround that accomplishes a similar goal?

Lightroom can show you the exact structure of the files on disk.
Aperture has an abstraction layer between the files on disk and the files it manages.
This is both a blessing and a curse, depending on what you want.
In Aperture when you import you can select "Leave images in their current location."  That should work fine, and give you referenced images.  I personally have never seen this fail, but in the event that it did, and for example 102 of 106 images were imported, I don't really know of an easy way to show via Aperture what didn't get imported.

  • Keeping track of the image sets

Is there a way to keep track of which image sets have already been processed
(profiles generated) ?  I've been processing them in groups and would like to be
able to verify that a particular combination (focus distance/f stop/focal length) has indeed been added to the profile.
Also, is there a way to compare your own profiles to the available ones other than by comparing how they process images?

    >Is there a way to keep track of which image sets have already been processed
    (profiles generated) ?
Not currently. I think it is a good idea.
    >Also, is there a way to compare your own profiles to the available ones other than by comparing how they process images?
No. You can open up the result lcp file in a text editor to inspect yourself .

  • Looking for an application to keep track of things

Again, forgive me, for I am new to the BB world.
I have a Palm Zire that I use to keep track of, among other things, all the books I've read - nothing worse that buying a book for the second or third time!  I use the Palm desktop contacts list, filter by "Books", the by author keep track of the titles in the note field.
Can anyone recommend a BB application to keep track of this for me.  One of the reasons I got this phone was so I wouldn't to carry my PDA and phone with me when shopping.
    Thanks a million
    kznailz

    Hi there!
For me, I use contact items...I have a whole batch of them that start with "Note" and contain tons of things. One is my weekly shopping list. Another is a list of gift ideas for folks. And many many other things. I like using Contacts as I can not only search them, but they replicate to my desktop PIM (for me, via BES/Exchange) and I can even edit them in my PIM and they wind up on my BB. Handy, IMHO!
    Hope that helps!

  • How to track before image and after image of changes in retro changelog?

    Hi all,
I've enabled plug-in retro change log and accessed with JNDI successfully. However, the changes column keeps after change only. Is it possible to track before image through retro changelog plug-in?
    Cheers.

The retro-changelog contains the changes as received by the server.
There is no way to dump the content (or part of it) of the entry before the change was applied.
    Regards,
    Ludovic.

  • Where is the file that keeps track of which mail items were open?

Searching for the file that keeps track of which mail items were open- sometimes it suddenly is shorter, forgets some of the items of mail that was open, in my 'in box' as it were.
just happened to me- 15 emails I wanted to keep open till I answered them are now lost back in the mail stack
any idea where i can find that, retrieve from a backup done last week?
any trick to fixing this problem?
    hope so
i gotta track down some of those emails, will be a huge chore to do it one by one
    thanks

any idea where i can find that, retrieve from a backup done last week?
Good luck with that; it's not likely to happen.
any trick to fixing this problem?
You could just reply to the email right away, rather than putting it off until later, whenever "later" happens to be. Or, you could also put your emails that have not yet been replied to in a separate folder, and move them out into your Inbox when you have replied.

  • Can I keep track of the location of my lost iPhone using the lost mode in Find My iPhone even after the sim is removed?

My iPhone 5 is stolen, but luckily I had Find My iPhone enabled on iOS 7. The device is currently online(cellular is on) but location services are off. Is there any way to track its location.
Furthermore, if I turn on the lost mode and the thief turns off cellular data, would I be able to keep track its location?

Unless you enabled Find My iPad on it before it was stolen then there isn't any way to locate it. If you did enable it then you could try locating it either via http://icloud.com on a computer or Find My iPhone on another device - but that will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPad disabled on it.
If it was stolen then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.
If it was never registered to your account then it won't appear on your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
The only other ways to find it that I know of (apart from on the actual device) are via the packaging, the backup on a computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061

  • Best way to keep track of family members, etc

    Hi-
I am a hobby photographer, and have been playing around with the trial version Aperture to replace iPhoto, and I have some questions.
    1. What is the best way to keep track of family members? For example, I like to basically keep track by setting keywords, adding a keyword for each family member & dog. Is this still the way to do it in aperture, or is there a different solution?
    2. If keywords are still the way, what is the fastest way to do this (in particular for multiple files at a time)? The various keyword buttons & shortcuts seem to only apply to one image at a time, whereas the batchchange option seems to only rely on freeform text-- which makes it likely that somewhere along the line I will get a typo.
    Thanks,
    -jamie

You can apply a keyword to multiple images by selecting a group of images and dropping a keyword from the keyword HUD onto one of the selected images.
I created keywords in the keyword HUD for family members, events (Christmas, Birthday, Vacation etc.), and some other things. Keywords you have already typed into an image will be in the keyword HUD already. I created a hierarchy of keywords such as:
    People
    -Family
    --(names)
    -Friends
    --(names)
    Events
    -Holidays
    --Christmas
    --Halloween
Sorry for the dashes to show the indentations. I tried spaces but they didn't work for some reason.

  • LR workflow for keeping track of copyright submissions?

Instead of reinventing the wheel, I thought I'd ask here first.
I have around 8,000 images in a smart collection of photos taken between Jan 1, 2010 and March 31, 2010. I've added my copyright info into the metadata and am in the process of exporting a 700px image of each image to a 1st_qtr2010_copyright folder on my hard drive before submitting them.
I am considering adding these phrases to the Keywords into the original raw images: "copyrighted" and "submitted April 16, 2010". In the future, I should be able to search for all "copyrighted" images or a refinded search for any "submitted..." group. And when the certificate is returned for the images, I'd add one more keyword like "© completed July 20, 2010" and/or the copyright document number.
I guess the target is to figure out how to keep track of the images already submitted, the ones officially copyrighted, and any images still needing the copyright submissions.(images that do not contain "copyrighted")
If anyone here has a tried and tested method or workflow using Lightroom, I'd love to hear them before I go any further.
    Thanks in advance,
    M. Jackson

    Sean and Jao,
I found the tick box now.
I create a Keyword Set called something like "Private Keywords" and inclued the keyword "copyrighted" (with the boxes unchecked). I select one or more images, then click the copyrighted keyword in the list? I think I got it. I then add additional Private Keywords to my set and use them as needed. Right?
Going back to my original question, I am looking for help with a workflow suggestion to help keep track of submissions to the copyright office. I see the option in LR to assign either Unknown, Copyrighted, or Public Domain in the Metadata. So, I import them into LR as unknown until I prepare the jpgs for uploading, at which point, I change all of the original RAW images to Copyrighted. At the point of uploading and payment, the images are copyrighted for most purposes, but there is still the final step of getting the certificate from the copyright office a few months later. I'd like to find all the ones submitted in that group and assign a new Private Keyword that associates the registration number and maybe date with the photos in that group.
Unless I am missing more features in LR, assigning appropriate keywords would be necessary to keep track of the whole process. Keeping some of them private makes a lot of sense. If I were to run a copyright batch every few weeks, it would be easy to visualize eight or nine "in progress" copyright submission groups waiting for the final certificates.
Any additional advice would be appreciated.

  • How to keep track of all the classes/methods/properties created in a long script

    Hi,
I'm curious to know what method people use to keep track of all the classes, methods, and properties you've created when writing a longer script.
For quick scripts, this isn't a problem. But for long scripts it can get quite difficult to keep track of all the objects one has created, and all their methods and properties, and overloaded constructors, etc.
ESTK is great, and it's the IDE I use for InDesign scripting, if only because of it's powerful debugging options.
But it doesn't provide any way of keeping track of this stuff. No proper Intellisense as in Visual Studio.
I'd be interested to hear how people solve this issue.

    Hi Ariel,
Not sure it is relevant to your question but I have an old snippet that collects and displays ExtendScript references using $.list(). This may help to track some object relationships.
// WARNING: this is just a WIP -- Not tested in all platforms and versions

How do I Track my images Trace who has stolen my Images and
puts them on there web site and claims that they have done that
    work
I know how to watermark my images,

The only way I know is to use digital wartermarking and
    tracking
services like DigiMarc as suggested by Bregent in your
    previous thread.
It's kind of neat in that it places digital information in
    the images
as noise. In most cases it's quite unobtrusive, but only you
    can be the
    judge of that.
The information even survives through some minor editing of
    the files.
So if somebody crops your visible watermark or does some
    other minor
editing, the information is still in the file.
I'm only an amateur photographer and my free trial ran out
    years ago. I
did not get to see the tracking system in action with the
    trial
    version.

  • Missing partitions after running Recovery from previous System Image Backup in Windows 8.1

After running Recovery from a recent Sytem Image Backup the LRS_ESP partition is now missing and the Used space on the  PBR_DRV partition is reported as 95.20MB while it previously reported 9.52GB in use. The WINRE_DRV, SYSTEM_DRV, Windows8_OS and D:LENOVO partions appear to be OK.
I ran the Recover after replacing the original 500GB HDD with a 1TB. Any details/links/recommendations on recreating/correcting the LRS_ESP and PBR_DRV partitions? Thanks!

Here are the before and after partition details obtained through Partition Wizard:
