Keeping track of multiple projects

I have an 84min movie I made years ago and want to edit a 3min trailer and a longer 12min trailer from footage I captured via the original VHS 4:3 transfer to mini-DV. I want to maintain the original 4:3 transfer but add 16:9 mattes to the two trailers.
My concern is how to keep track of the various versions I want to make. I have already created a New Project for the full 84 min 4:3 and created a 2nd New Project that I put a 16:9 matte over. Framing is quite good too.
I plan to make new projects for each version unless there's an easier way to keep track of everything. Nesting is also a consideration but I've never really done that before.
Any comments, suggestions, warnings, etc. greatly appreciated.

Not sure I understand what's wrong with the way you are doing it now.... creating new projects for each change? Or you could have one project with different sequences for each change.... Should be simple to keep track of things as long as you come up with a naming convention that works for you and then stick to it.

  • Keeping track of multiple tables

I'm creating multiple tables by resuing the same JTable object and merely changing and the tablemodel associated with it. The number of tables I have are based on the number of data tables I have.
Right now I have an Mouselistener attached to my tables to register which rows and columns have been clicked on. My question is, how do I keep track of which table the row and column come from? Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I won't do a lecture on Java object and reference here.
If a single JTable keeps changing its model or model data, it's simply no problem.
Are you going to do that?
    However,
    JTable t0, t1, t2, t3, ... ;
    t0 = new JTable(model0);
    t1 = t2 = t3 = ... = t0;
    /* and, somewhere else ... */
    t1.setModel(model1);
    /* again elsewhere */
    t2.setModel(model2);
    .....This is certainly a disaster.
how do I keep track of which table the row and column come from?Define a custom class for object for managing table meta data. And use a Collection or a Map
for storing them. Or, simple set of meta data can be stored in your table model object that
extends DefaultTableModel. Don't extend AbstractTableModel -- that is often unnecessary
and often can be a futile, bogging and nightmarish effort. Keep yourself away from it.

  • What does DIAdem do to keep track of multiple versions of itself?

I am using an automation reference to open up DIAdem. I have 8.1 and 9.0 installed. If I run DIAdem 8.1 and close it, then the reference gives me 8.1. If then I run DIAdem 9.0, the reference gives me 9.0. So the computer must be keeping track of the program that was run most recently. How does it do this?

I don't have two versions on this computer so I can't play with it to find the exact key, it's probably going to be under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\ somewhere, but it'll be under the Class ID rather than the name.

  • Keeping Track of multiple servers getting security updates

I have over 1000 servers that I schedule security update deployments monthly. I have servers in the Americas, Europe and Asia.  There are several different schedules during a deployment cycle to accommodate the geographical location of each
server. I've been keeping track, using a spreadsheet if the servers were patched successfully with SCCM or not. If they weren't, I would troubleshoot to see if there is an SCCM client issue, not enough space on the drive, the server in a hung state, etc.
I check the reports as well, but if there is an SCCM client issue, that machine may not show up on the report. My point is I'm keeping track of the patching by using a spreadsheet. With all this information on mind, does someone have a better method of
keeping track of a high multitude of servers when they have successfully patched?

I'm using a dashboard for my patching process. Take a look at this post, I'm using something similar: http://blogs.technet.com/b/gary_simmons_mcs/archive/2014/09/16/system-center-2012-r2-configuration-manager-software-update-compliance-dashboard-part-1.aspx
Gives me the right summary, and a better view of things with quick access to the underlying reports.

  • How to keep track of changes in PHP project?

I am doing a large project with PHP language. I would like to use some tool to keep track of each change I make. It would be very nice to go back to different phases and situations before changes. It seems hard to keep track of everything by hand.
What web-based or other tools could I use that would keep track of changes?

There are numerous version control systems including google:CVS, google:SVN and google:mercurial to name but a few - give SVN a try.
Unless you run it locally the best way to get access to a SVN repo is to get yourself a project on somewhere like google:gna or google:berlios - I'm sure they'd be happy to support you

  • CS5 keeping track of time spent with a project

I am not sure, if this would qualify as a feature request, or if there is a feture i have just not found yet.
Also i am not sure, if this is or is not a technical question.
Often i would like to know, how many hours i have already spent with one project. So is there any possibility in Premiere / and or After Effects, to see that sort of stats?
Maybe i should find the consistency to keep a book, a pen and a watch on my desk, but i find that hard at times...

Yeah, Bill that sounds interesting, a third party tool that keeps track, when a file (in this case pproj) is open / being used.
    (so much for on topic...)
    Rod:
Too bad, megaplayground has no homepage up (but who am i to judge, i am not a webdesigner, so it takes me quite a while to get my portfolio reworked and by the time it is finally finished, i don't like it anymore, then i start again and the dog bites it's own tail.)
I am sorry, but i'm not sure, what exactly you want to know from me there.
I suppose, you ask about stuff that interests you...
Are they working on AVID, FCP, Pr, Media100 ?
I am quite familiar with AVID in larger companies, have only very basic knowledge of FCP, learned the job on Media100, but that was a couple of years ago and i would say my experiences with Pr are somewhere in the middle.
So i don't feel like i could tell you any smart questions to ask...
Make sure to ask them, if they need someone for editing and Motion Graphics, i would love a trip to nyc for a few months
If you're just getting into this stuff, why don't you just enjoy the tour, chat up the hot girl at the front desk (don't know why, but they always seem to be singles) and check out the coffe?
and there are no dumb questions within or beyond the basics, dumb questions don't exist, the term "dumb question" is only used by people that are not willing or unable to help but at the same time want to make sure, they're seen as a smarter guy than the inquirer...
So happy that's something that is not happening inside this forum as far as i have experienced... there are others, and that's also why i am here.
(was all of that english? it's way past beer fourtyfive and i'm not a native speaker)
aaanyway, have a fun tour and if they run avid, ask them, why their unity writes much bigger files and needs huge raids in comparison to single workstation setups
i think, i am overdoing it a bit with the winking smileys, i hate them and am thinking of a splatter movie involving some guys with faces like these...
What was the OPs topic again? [no, i will not use this smileyfunction now! i am strong, i can resist this childish urge! they will not have my soul! damn.]

  • Consolidate tracks from multiple .Band projects onto one .band project

    The subject says it all:
how do I Consolidate tracks from multiple .Band projects onto one .band project?? I've got 4-5 tracks which are each seperate podcasts on one .band file. I need to add a few tracks from a different .band file (because they're podcasts that are part of the same podcast series project). How do I consolidate them? Tried copy/paste the track, didn't work. Thanks a TON!!!!!!!!

you can copy and paste, it just take a little more effort to do what you want. read the tute on rescuing files and you'll see how to move one project into another:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Tutorials.html#allaboutrescuingfiles
then create the needed tracks for the next project and move them into the right positions, etc.

  • Keeping track of the time i work on a project

Is there a program that will keep track of the time i work on a project?

    Three really good ones.
A clock, a piece of paper and a pencil.
    Or a clock and EXCEL.
OR...you can get one of those time clocks that they have on those REALLY strict jobs, like at McDonalds. The stuff you see the Flintstones using...minus the dinosaur.
Sorry...I don't know of anything...just lightening the mood.

  • How does DIAdem keep track of which version is active when multiple versions are installed?

I need a way to find out which version of DIAdem is active, without creating an automation reference. How does DIAdem keep track of this? I don't think it's through the registry as far as I can tell. Thanks.

    Hi,
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "version of DIAdem is active". If you are trying to reference DIAdem from an external program, you will need to use an automation reference. Besides this case, I am not sure what you are referring to.
Perhaps a short description of your application or intended use will help me point you in the right direction.

  • Keeping track of stock footage usage

    Hello all,
Does anyone know of a way where by I can keep track of stock clips used in multiple projects? Basically we have a stock library which contains some clips which are the property of a cameraman we regularly use. Each time we use some of his footage we have to keep track of the duration used so we can reconcile at the end of each series produced. Is there any way of "flagging" his clips so that we can easily do a search and come up with the clips and durations used throughout an entire series or even for each episode? There must be some kind of database software that does this mustn't there?
    Thanks.

Put the tape name, or his name, in the title of the clip. Then you can search for it in the Timeline by pressing APPLE-F and typing in that name. This will go to each clip in the timeline in turn, so then you can determine the duration.
Or export an EDL and search that with Apple-F...

  • How can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans?

I'm sure this simple and a pretty common operation but how can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans? Right now I keep cut, coping and pasting the same source file between multiple projects to re-use the same code. But I could I make this source file a library file or something like that so that I could access it from any project. I assume this would be a generic operation but I mentioned NetBeans for clarity. Thanks.

    Create a class library.
Write your code, compile it to .class files, put those class files in a .jar file and include the jar file in the classpath whenever you want to compile a project against it.

  • Copy tracks from one project to another

(Hopefully, I'm just missing something obvious. Programs like Final Cut Pro and PhotoShop make it very easy to have multiple projects open and copy and paste between them.)
I frequently copy tracks I like from one project to another. Although it's possible to do, it seems a given that Logic doesn't not like to have more than one project open at a time. This complicates it a bit, but I just copy the track I want, close the current project and open the new one.
I wish in the edit menu or in the track drop-down menu there was a straight forward "Copy Track" option. Since there isn't, I just select the whole track (which is essentially all the regions) and copy and then paste into new project. The problem is that it brings the content over fine, but not the track info (name, etc.)
Is there some better way to accomplish this? I don't want to export MIDI tracks as audio, so the Export option doesn't work.
    Thanks,
    Dave

I looked at the video again and unless they did some editing in FCP (which would have to be the case), the following frame after selecting the regions shows both gone simultaneously.
It is quite possible of some FCP editing but as I said first you can do that very fast using two neighbor keys so it can look as one magic shot. The screen capture tools use low FPS settings for media capturing about 15 fps for example.
I tend to occasionally put a blank track between other tracks as a separator (been doing this since the Master Tracks Pro days).
I think you can try a little trick for doing that. You can create a "Dummy" empty region inside a folder track for example, and use the folder track(s) as separator(s). I have not tried that yet, cause I'm away of my Logic but it must work this way.

  • Best way to keep track of family members, etc

    Hi-
I am a hobby photographer, and have been playing around with the trial version Aperture to replace iPhoto, and I have some questions.
    1. What is the best way to keep track of family members? For example, I like to basically keep track by setting keywords, adding a keyword for each family member & dog. Is this still the way to do it in aperture, or is there a different solution?
    2. If keywords are still the way, what is the fastest way to do this (in particular for multiple files at a time)? The various keyword buttons & shortcuts seem to only apply to one image at a time, whereas the batchchange option seems to only rely on freeform text-- which makes it likely that somewhere along the line I will get a typo.
    Thanks,
    -jamie

You can apply a keyword to multiple images by selecting a group of images and dropping a keyword from the keyword HUD onto one of the selected images.
I created keywords in the keyword HUD for family members, events (Christmas, Birthday, Vacation etc.), and some other things. Keywords you have already typed into an image will be in the keyword HUD already. I created a hierarchy of keywords such as:
    People
    -Family
    --(names)
    -Friends
    --(names)
    Events
    -Holidays
    --Christmas
    --Halloween
Sorry for the dashes to show the indentations. I tried spaces but they didn't work for some reason.

  • Topics in multiple projects in RoboHelp 8 are getting crossed over

I have multiple projects I imported/upgraded into RoboHelp 8.  Initially when in each project, all topics are correct.  But after importing second and subsequent projects, when I go back to the first project, it shows the topics from the last project??  What's going on?  I've tried searching to see if this has happened to others, but do not see anything of the like... Any help would be appreciated...

    Hi all
Perhaps it will help if we take a moment to understand a bit of the evolution of RoboHelp.
Pull your chairs a bit closer and I'll tell you a story. In earlier years RoboHelp projects were managed by the .MPJ file. Because the MPJ file kept track of all project aspects, it was possible to store as many different projects as you like in the same main folder. This was nice from the aspect of sharing content. You could set things up so that you had common topics and images across multiple projects. If any of them changed, you changed them in any project and they changed for ALL projects using them. Of course this meant you had to recompile or re-generate each project if they changed, but the change actually only occurred once.
Now along comes X5 with a new file structure. XML format. This meant some changes. Unfortunately some changes that effectively blew this manner of working totally out of the water. You may wonder why. Well, it's because while each project is mostly unique, some of the underlying files are rather generically named. For example, you have the ProjectName.XPJ, which is specific to each project, but that XPJ references generic files with APJ (Anaheim ProJect) file extensions. Files such as rhskins.apj, rjsnippet.apj and so on.
My guess as to what has happened here is that with only one instance of these files able to be in a single folder, whoever saved last wins.
What you have ahead of you is the following task.
You need to split the projects into separate folders so that each project is in its own folder.
    THEN you upgrade each project.
You should probably begin by restoring from the backup you made prior to attempting the upgrade.
You, ummm, DID make one, didn't you?
    Cheers all... Rick

  • Is multiple project export possible ?

it would be nice to be able to set multiple projects up for Media Browser Export !
perhaps an apple script or an automator script .
i have a couple projects ready to render in Large and Medium size !
but its time consuming and it is a waist of time to do them at one time.. i set one up it takes about an hour.
i would love to be able to set up let say 4 projects to export in medium and large size overnight so when i get up i have them all ready for iDVD instead i have to spend more time during a day to export them one at the time ( i'm not in front of my computer all the time )
anybody has some hints or could build a nice Automator for it ?

    Hi f
    Just as Karsten writes.
    a. You need an external hard disk:
    • HAS TO BE - formatted as Mac OS Extended - NOT AS - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange
    • Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly
    b. You keep Your program on Your internal (start-up) hard disk and store Your
movie project (icon with a Star on it) on the external one.
    c. less than 10Gb free space on the internal (start-up) hard disk often gives
problems of many kinds. I try to free up 25Gb to be able to work confortably.
    Yours Bengt W
