Keeping up to date with updates

how many people constantly update their apple software because i have been delaying any updates for a while now because they take up so much space
how important is it
thanks

> when you say i.e. Quicktime do you also mean iTunes, iMovie, GarageBand etc...
No, QuickTime is a component part of the Operating System and used by many applications, updates to that should be installed when available. iTunes and other applications are your call but don't reject them due to space considerations, an up-to-date Mac is more efficient and hassle free

  • How to keep up to date with Sun Application Server 9.1

Hi All: I'm just starting out deciding between Tomcat and Sun Application Server 9.1. Is there a patch number on SunSolve so I can keep the product up to date with any fixes?
Any comments on which way to go for this for .war applications that do not have EJBs?
    Thanks,
    Rich

    Hello,
recently I upgraded from Sun AppServer 9.1 U1 to U2. I downloaded Glassfish V2 U2, what is equivalent to AppServer 9.1 U2. Installing this download there is an option to upgrade the domain of an existing installation of the AppServer.
    This worked pretty well.

  • How to Keep Content Types Current with Updated Data

Let’s say that I have four content types—content type 1, content type 2, content type 3, and content type 4—all based on the same list, say list A.
Each content type has its own workflow.
When the workflow for content type 1 is completed, the data is saved to an individual item, say item Z, in a separate list, list B.
When the workflow for content type 2 is completed, the data is saved to the same item (item Z) in list B. The reason that there are two lists is that the creation of content types causes new items to be created, but the each
new item must reference data from the previous item. That means that data has to be copied from the first item to the second item. But what happens to the data in the second item when data from the first item is changed? The solution is to have a single item
in another list to which all content types write their data.
What I need to know is how can all the content types retrieve data from list B when those content types are based on list A? For example, let's say that content type 3 uses data originally input through content type 1. As the
user inputs and saves data through content type 3 he sees data that had been originally input through content type 1. Another user then accesses content type 1 to update and save data through it. When content type 3 is opened again that user will not see the
updated data entered through content type 1 because it is tied to a different item. The solution seems to be for all content types to save their data to the same item in another list. But then how can those content types be designed so that when they open
they show updated data from List B when those content types are based on List A?
Other applications have the notion of a folder containing all the up-to-date data fields. Another way to look at this problem is to state what SharePoint 2007 does to mimic the notion of a folder.

Thanks for responding, but I don't think that the solution provided solves my problem. What you described will keep the item in List B in sync with the changes made to List A. However, the content types from List A will not be in sync when they are opened
from List A. Say content type 1 makes changes to various fields. When content type 3 opens it displays some of the fields that content type 1 changed; however, content type 3 and content type 1 by definition display different items--and those items are not
in sync. Either I have to copy the updated item from List B back to the related items in List A or there has to be another solution.
Is it possible to have a workflow update all the items in a list based on a key field whenever changes are made to that item. Say content types 1, 2, 3, and 4 already exist and each refers to a different item in List A, but they are "tied" together
by a key field. When content type 1 is reopened and changes are made, is it possible to iterate over the items in a list to find other items whose key field matches the key field from content type 1? If so, then when matching items are found the fields in
them can be updated by the same changes made to content type 1.
If this latter scenario is possible, how is that iteration set up in a SharePoint 2007 workflow? Thanks again.

  • Keeping up to date with Creative Cloud - Photoshop/Illustrator

I have recently updated Photoshop and Illustrator to the lastest versions, and have run into two issues thus far.
    1. Illustrator will not open a client supplied eps file - saying it was created in a 'newer' version.
    2. Photoshop will not open previously created files - it asks to "import' the files and will not recognize the layers.
    HELP!

    Hi dezzzignr2140,
The following applications support the ability to export to the CS6 version of the application:
    Photoshop
    InDesign®
    Illustrator
    Flash® Professional
    Dreamweaver®
    After Effects®
Applications not listed here may not support exporting to Creative Suite 6, and may not do so in future releases.
New features added to the above list after Creative Suite 6 may not be supported in the exported file, or by the Creative Suite 6 application.

I have the IPhone 4s and it is up-to-date with all upgrades.  Just recently I changed my YAHOO! password however each time I go into settings to update the password I keep getting "YAHOO! A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.
    https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2659/configure-imap-for-iphone-or-ipad.aspx
    https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html
    On the iPhone, tap Settings.
    Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.
    Tap Add Account.
    Tap Other.
    Tap Add Mail Account.
Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.
    Click Next.
    Ensure IMAP is selected.
Enter the following incoming mail server information:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Hostname is mail.yahoo.com.
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail.
Enter the following outgoing mail server information:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires SSL
    Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Username is your full email address
Password is the same password used to access webmail. It may have been entered for you.
    Tap Next.
The iPhone will establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers.
    That’s all!

My iPad keeps telling me that I am up to date with iOS 5.1.1.  What do I need to do to download and install iOS 6?

You appear to have a first generation iPad, which isn't capable of running iOS 6. To tell for certain, append the last three characters of its serial number to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= and load the page.

  • Keeping your servers up-to-date with patches

    Hello All,
Please note that this is NOT a WSUS question. I have that installed in our environment and I know how to use it, or at least I like to think I do. I am a System Admin of a completely virtualized environment. As our company grows, more and more servers have
been built and keeping up with the latest patches has become a challenge. So I am looking for some advice from users who have more experience here than I do.
Up to this point, we have been updating the virtual machines as we do the ESX(i) hosts. This was okay when there were fewer machines. Now, if there are 20 or more VMs on a single host, it is just too time consuming. Also, as we add more hosts, we fall behind
with the updates. So, I am thinking we can keep on top of it better if I can separate the ESX(i) updates from the Windows Updates. So perhaps I can update a different group of VMs each day. Production VMs will need to wait until the weekend of course. I am
thinking I will create a new group in WSUS that has all of the latest updates approved and then move the VMs into that group as I am ready to do each machine. I manually approve the updates but I can probably auto-approve critical updates.
Anyway, for those of you who who work in larger environments and keep on top of Windows updates for servers, how do you do it? What are your best practices? All of our desktop computers automatically install updates in the late-night hours but we obviously
cannot do that with servers. Let me know if you have any questions or need more information. Thanks for the help.
    -Adam

Yeah it's a tricky balance. Well you could always choose option 2 to simply notify that there are updates awaiting installation, so they don't get downloaded until you tell a machine to update. Obviously the downside to that is having to wait while a potentially
large download happens (though if it's over the local network it shouldn't take too long). So you centrally control what is deployed to the servers, and get all the servers retrieving the data over the local network rather than having to download the updates
over the internet, but keep the actual download and install part as a manual process.
For desktop machines I tend to allow auto-approval and installation since the risk of a user doing something bad with an unpatched machine is higher than the risk of the update having issues. For servers though I never auto-approve, and prefer to manually
go through approving the latest updates for the servers once I've had a chance to confirm there are no reports of issues with the updates. Even then I tend to stagger rolling out the updates minimise any issues, and where possible test them first on staging
servers or servers which aren't as critical. I tend to look at it in terms of the two risks. The risk of the vulnerability being exploited vs the risk to the server if something went wrong. For a public facing / user facing server then the risk tends to sway
towards installing earlier, where as backend servers that are never directly connected to are less at risk. Additionally, things like IE updates while critical on a desktop really aren't important on a server, so can safely wait for a while. Any sysadmin that
goes surfing from a server shouldn't be in the job.
Thank you again. But a similar problem remains with the second option of the notification without the download. A user will still be notified that updates are ready to be downloaded and then choose to do so. So at that point it's probably better to have
the updates downloaded and ready to install. All of our servers report to WSUS so none of them hit the internet which makes sense considering most of the workstations are on the same LAN as the WSUS server so it's pretty quick.
As of run now, I don't schedule the synchronizations continually. I manually run them, update each group of computers in WSUS until all are green, and then run the synchronization again and repeat. An obvious disadvantage to this is that we won't have the
latest updates available until I get through all of the groups and run the synchronization again! So that leaves us vulnerable. I also manually approve each update. People sometimes call me crazy but I have seen WSUS auto-approve updates in the past which
I did not want pushed out, so I play it safe.
Thank you for all of the help!

My phone wont let me download anything even free stuff or update.it keep saying something wrong with my billing info so i fix it but still cant download.I signed out sign back in still nothing please help i'm getting angry

If it says your billing info is wrong that means that your credit card issuer is refusing to approve your account. You will have to solve the problem with your bank or credit card company.

  • HT4623 I just bought an ipad form a friend. It says its up to date with iOS 5.1.1, but when I try to download apps it tells me I need to update to iOS 6.0 or newer but it wont let me

My friend just sold me her ipad she got Jan 2013. The software says its up to date with iOS5.1.1, but when i try to download certain app it tells me I need to update to iOS6.0 or later but when i go to the setting there are no updates. so how do I add these apps? The person i bought it from doesnt know what generation becuase it was a present to her.

The way you download older apps for the older, original iPad 1, as I understand it, is if you have iTunes installed on a computer, you purchase / download the new, current app, in the iOS App Store in iTunes on your computer. Then, go back to your iPad and go to the App Store app on your iPad and find the same app there and download it.
When You select app to update/download, a message pop-up window appears asking if you want to download the last compatible version for your device (if one still exists ) tap OK and that should be it.

    Dear Experts,
I am facing a Problem in query data updation.    Data has been daily updating in infoprovider successfully ,But when user run query through Bex he is always shown old data.  Then I go to RSRT and generate the query and data got updated.
Every Time for new data updation I need to Generate the query.
What could be reason for this.  Is this related to cache data ?
    Any Advise .
    Thanks in Advance.

    Dear Michael,
This problem is coming only for one Multiprovider.   Running this program would affect all other queries also . This will Delay the reporting.
Any other reason why query is reflected with old data Though infoprovide is loaded with new data.

  • When I try to open a Pages document from iCloud, created on my iPad, I get message stating I need a newer version of Pages.  When I go to app store all I get is "installed" when looking at pages app. my Macbook pro is up to date with all updates.

When I try to open a Pages document from iCloud, created on my iPad, I get message stating I need a newer version of Pages.  When I go to app store all I get is "installed" when looking at pages app. my Macbook pro is up to date with all updates. Any ideas?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=3527487677f0c 6fa05b6297cd00f8eb9&mforum=iworktipsntrick
Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

I have Microsoft Office 2004 on my MacBook (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).  It is currently up to date with Microsoft updates.  I am running Mac OS 10.6.8.  I just updated my Mac software with "Security Update 2012-001".  I am now unable to print (Epson NX510 printer) from Excel or Word.  When I click on the Print menu item in Excel, there is a flash in the background like it is trying to open the print window, but nothing else.  I am able to print from other programs like TextEdit, Mail or KakeidaGraph.  As far as I know I have the latest Epson print driver.
Also, I am also unable to open an existing Excel or Word file from the open menu - both programs lock up and do not respond.  I have to force quit.  After I restart Excel or Word I can open an existing file by double clicking on the file, but if I again try to open another file from the open menu, Excel or Word lock up.
    Any similar problems?

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.
