Keeping ur libary sraight...

Has anyone else had problems with itunes seperating your CD's that u import into 2 or more different albums with the same album i.e all same artist same album title. Songs 1-8 under 1 album artwork then song 9 on different album but same album artwork, then songs 10-13 in a different album, but with the same album cover. I have made sure that everything matches, but it still does this

Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base - in particular the Albums in which all songs don't have the same Album Artist information section - and let us know if it brings you any combination of joy and/or satisfaction.

  • Large Aperture Library 250GB

    Afternoon App,
I have a large 250GB Library for Aperture - which is currently backed up on my External hard drive via Time Machine.
Im looking to update my laptop Mac Pro 2012 to Mac Pro 2013 Retina  - but as these come with SSD im never going to fit it all in with my current setup (Used 550GB) this runs off a Hybrid SSD and Normal Disc drive.
Question - I dont think you can upgrade the retina drive to a normal drive ? - if you can then this wouldnt be a problem as I would swop the two drives over.
Question 2 - If you cant and have to use SSD - then what is the best way for me to keep my libary in tact - ie one folder structure - but off load the orginal images onto a drive ?  Im guessing this would be the way todo it' ?
If someone could help I would be really greatful ?
    Mick

    Hi Mick,
Swapping out an unused CD-ROM for a useful HDD is a good exchange.  OWC can likely help you determine what you can do and what parts you need.
I run a mixed Library on my personal machine (rMBP w. 500 GB SSD, no second drive bay).  People generally think that it's the Library that is either referenced or managed, but it is more properly each Image's Original that is referenced or managed.  I keep my Library on my laptop's SSD, import all new files into it with managed Originals, and once every month or so relocate the Originals of any Images that are older then 45 days.  So my Library functions as a kind of processing tube: files come in, they are indexed, they are adjusted to my needs, and then the files are moved to an external HD.  The index, and the Previews, stay with the Library, which stays on my laptop.  With some tweaking for portfolio Images and incomplete projects, this system works well for me.
Note, though, that bus speeds for external drives are no longer the bottleneck they used to be.  IME, you lose nothing perceptible if you put your entire Library on an external drive connected via USB-3 (or, I assume, Thunderbolt).
Having your system files on a large SSD, and your Library on a second internal drive, is almost ideal for a laptop.
In all cases I recommend leaving 100 GB unused on your SSD.  OS X and Aperture are good at using this "scratch" space.

  • Bug? Cannot export shared variable, if it's in a virtual folder within an .lvlib

    Hello,
I was trying to keep my libary of shared variables organized by categorizing the variables into different virtual folders. However, it turns out that variables in virtual folders are excluded from exports, even though they (and their folders) are visible in the Multiple Variable Editor.
Is this by design (in LabVIEW 2012)? If so, what's the rationale?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
When there are variables inside nested virtual folders within a Library, the multiple variable editor does not work. If you select several variables in a virtual folder and right-click and select Multiple variable editor, the editor opens but you cannot change anything.
Workaround: Convert folders to libraries or move variables under a single folder.

  • Useing laptop to work on files

    Please help
I store my libary and vault on seperate external drives in case of failure.
I also use laptop and workstation. Is there a way I can keep a libary on my laptop in a cut down form so to show and work on pics without all the details to keep workspace to a minimum. I plan to travel soon nad have a 160g lacie ext drive, but with raw this seems to fill up so quickly. the laptop has 54g left so not a lot of room. Should I be looking at referenced files, not to sure how this works.
    Many thanks

It might help to divide this into two goals:
    1. how to travel with a "cut down" version of the home library.
    2. how to import and backup new files while travelling.
    2. is easier to achieve - Aperture on the laptop, import new files into that 54g of int. HD space, and use your firewire external as a travelling vault. Always carry the vault in your pocket.
    1. If you want to display photos from your home library with onscreen slide shows (to share them while travelling), you could export jpegs of those images from your home library and make a separate Aperture library from those. That jpeg library should be small enough to keep in your laptop internal drive. But it seems like you would lose some organization from your home library - projects and albums and maybe metadata if you are not careful. You could export using this plugin:
    http://www.lightboxsoftware.com/aperture/
which allows you to export xmp information beyond what Aperture alone allows. Might help preserve the metadata.
I don't know how to work on those jpeg images while travelling and transfer that work back to your home library. But you would probably be working on your newer images anyway. That work you can save. Any new images you shoot on the road should be imported into their own separate project. Then when home after travelling, transfer that project to your home machine and import it into your home library.

  • 2 ipods, 2 laptops, 1 family

    Hi all.
Me and my partner both have a ipod classic 80g, and our own laptops. Tonight, i gave her all the music (as her ipod is new) from my laptop. Next, she installed itunes and keeping my libary on her ipod, she would delete what she didnt want, then additionaly add more of her own cd's to her ipod.
    But this wont work...
I can put my music on her ipod, but she when she plugs it into her laptop and itunes to add her own music, it wont let her..
How can we get round this?
    Cheers

*I can put my music on her ipod, but she when she plugs it into her laptop and itunes to add her own music, it wont let her..*
Is she getting a message that the iPod is linked to a different library and asking if she wants to link to this one and replace all her songs etc? If that's the case then the iPod is set to sync and load songs automatically from iTunes. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Stop iCal for good

iCal keeps reminding me of events from the past. I click them away each time but the reminders reappear every time i start my iMac. Since i do not want to manage my calendar on my iMac, that's what i have my iPhone for, i threw iCal to the Wastebin. It does not show in the dock now, ther is a question sign where it used to be, but the reiminders keep appearing. It relly unnerves me and all i want is KILL iCal for oence and all. How can i achieve that?
    Any advice is really appreciated

    Hi there
I think that i have had the same problem as i was using ical (i prefer it to outlook for mac) and after i started playing around with an active directory my ical event reminders wouldnt stop reminding me even after dismissing them, anyway
The way that i found to get rid oth this problem is first quit ical, then make sure that ur calander is fully synced with some serveice (for example icloud) then go into ur libary folder (normaly hidden so you'll have open terminal and copy this line in:
    sudo chflags nohidden ~/Library/
(it will ask you for a password (i think this has to be done on an administrators account, not sure as i do not have any non admin accounts on my computer))
then ull be able to see it in ur home folder)
Then go into it and you should see a folder called calanders, go into that and move all of the contents into a new folder and move that new folder to your desktop (or anywhere else you want, this is a back up of what was there before) (once you do this there should be nothing left in the calander folder in your libary folder), start ical and it should the pull down all of your calander events from the service you are using,
Then once you are all done and are happy with it use this command to hide your libary folder:
    sudo chflags hidden ~/Library
(you will have to put in your password again as you did before)
(this step is optional as if you want to keep your libary folder un hidden just dont put in this command into terminal, as some people like to have it unhidden like me)
If this does not work and you want to go back to what you had before just go back into that libary folder and remove any new folders and put the old folders back (make sure ical is quit before hand as this may mess things up)
I HIGHLY RECOMEND BACKING UP FIRST, and I TAKE NO REPONSABILITY FOR ANY DATA LOSScaused, DO AT YOUR OWN RISK, as i said earlyer i am only letting you know what i did to fix it and so far i have found nothing that has messed up.
    Hope this has helped

  • I have over 5000 songs on my ipod and can not see a way of keeping them if I want to set up a new itunes libary. I want to add my tunes from my ipod to a new itunes libary without it saying it will wipe what I already have. please help

    Hi everyone.
I had an itunes account for my classic and a few months ago wanted to add my daughters ipod to it. it told me when i pluged hers in 2 ipods could not use the same account and asked me if i wanted it to link her ipod and delete the current libary. like a fool i said yes. now i have a party comming up and cant plug my classic in without it saying if i sync it will wipe my 6000 songs and leave me with the new blank itunes that i have just set up.
what i want to do is add my 6000 songs to a new apple id libary/itunes without it wiping all my songs. does anyone know how to do this.
    help thanks

Since all of your music came from your computer in the first place, then it should still be there and should be included in your backup copy of your computer.
" it told me when i pluged hers in 2 ipods could not use the same account"
This is not true.  You have misunderstood.
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one one library.

  • Had to reboot computer.  how do i keep the music that i already have on my i pod? can i just reset my old libary?

had to reboot. how do i get my music i have on ipod back to ipod library?

What do yo mean by reboot your computer?  When I reboot my computer nothing gets lost/deleted.
What do you mean by "reset my old library".

  • New computer, can i keep my old libary and add new music?

My old computer in inop right now, anyways i just bought some new music on itunes and want to add it to my ipod without losing all my old music, it says the only way i can sync is to erase all my old music, is there a way around this?

  • How can I access my old iphoto libary on my newer laptop? I have a new iphoto folder on my laptop so I don't want to lose my current photos. I just want to add more.

How can I access my old iphoto libary on my newer laptop?
I have a new iphoto folder on my laptop so I don't want to lose my current photos. I just want to add more.

    Do the following:
rename the old library to something other that iPhoto Library.
copy the library to the Pictures folder on your new laptop.
launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select the old library to open it and convert it to the newer version.
Note:  if the older version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on it before opening with iPhoto on your new laptop.
If you want to merge the two libraries into one library and keep the edited versions, keywords, titles, etc. you'll need to use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to do the merging.

    Hi!
I am kinda new to Flash and i have a queston.I made a
movieclip that i keep in the libary. I have a button that i want to
load the movieclip on the screen while pressing it. Queston is: how
or what kind of code do i put for the button to load the movieclip
wich is in my libary? As i see there is no simple soulution for
this with the script assistent? I got the option load movie but it
only loads external files or i get error messages when trying to
    load my movie.
    Please help me with this.
    /Tobias

there are a few things you'll need to do in order to achieve
this, but it's not to complicated. First right-click the MC in the
Library and select 'properties', then in the 'Linkage' section
select the check box 'Export for ActionScript' and the type a name
in the 'Identifier' field, hit OK. now you can access the MC by the
    linkage ID.
the next thing you will need to know is 'where' you want to
place the MC, figure out the x,y position. then on the main
timeline, handle the 'button' code and we'll use 'attachMovie' to
bring the MC to the Stage. within the attachMovie method we'll also
pass the position you've decided upon. so it would look something
    like this:

  • Need to get all the files, well music and video, from my ipod touch 5th gen to my itunes libary.

Need to get all the files, (well music and video), from my ipod touch 5th gen to my itunes libary. (So basically sync the other way to normal)
Laptop hard drive broke so had to buy a new one and obviously now need to sort out my itunes.
Did try downloading all my purchased stuff onto itunes but it has missed some things off, and there are some files I did not purchase from itunes so need a way of getting them back on there.
Sure this question has been asked a million times but can't find anything to help me on here so thought I'd ask.
-Did have a look at going onto the start menu and opening the hidden items thing but couldn't see any reference to ipod or device on it so wasn't sure how to do it that way.
-On itunes under my device when its connected, the section about manually restoring and backing up, would that help me? Because that says it will manually back up my ipod to my computer then could restore that back up, obviously I don't want to accidnetally get rid of everything on my ipod so didn't want to try that just in case without checking.
(And yes I have disabled auto sync to device when conncected!)
Can anyone help me please? Sorry if i've overcomplicated this!
    Thanks:)
    Chris

Backing up an iOS device will copy some data to a backup file within iTunes, but this excludes all media.  You can also transfer iTunes Store purchases from the iDevice to iTunes but, without using a third-party tool, nothing else.  As long as you do not sync the iPod with your new library, the media that's on it will remain ... for as long as it keeps functioning, is not lost, stolen, eaten by the dog, ...
You may also have an option to recover your previous library from your old laptop; as long as its hard drive isn't fried, a computer repair store or technician may be able to extract the drive, mount it in an external enclosure, and copy your data to another PC.  Whatever you choose, there is no real alternative to having all your media on your computer, managed by iTunes, and regularly backed up to another device/location.

  • Itunes libary cannot be read. It was created by a newer version.

I cannot read my song list or get my Ipod to comunicate with the pc. When I click on Itunes it boots up the lic. I agree to the lic. then it tells me my libary was created by a new version and will not let me in. Very frustrating. I have gone to the update site and updated the PC and the Ipod. Still same problem. In windows explorer I can see my songs but cannot play or get to them. Help!

    Hello
What I was attempting to commuicate is that I went to the apple downloads section above on this screen, and then to the Ipod downloads for my machine (the 20 gig color screen Ipod) I then went to the downlaod section that showed ipod updater 2006.03.23. It looked to me as the most current one. Is that correct? I then choose the ipod software 1.2.1, which is listed as the one for my machine. That was not successfull in solving my problem. Still the same error message about my files were created by a newer version of the Ipod software. I read your suggestion after doing the above stuff. I noticed that the version you are suggesting is differant than what I downloaded off the offical Apple Ipod site.
So my question was about the differance in the versions. I was concerned because I did not see the one you suggested on the apple site the first time. I am attempting not to mess everything up so that I end up in reformat land. Uggggh! The thought of loading all the music again. But at least I have my cds so in theory I can get there. But currently, as I mentioned these files are still in my computer, but the error message says they were created with a later version of the software. That is puzzeling. One other factor my be that I needed to reinstall my files using an external back up hard drive after a reformating of the computer hard drive. I had backed up the computer using Windows live one care. The Live one care is the new MS service. It is pay for play to keep your computer protected. If you are old enough to remeber the TV show "outer limits", it is like the man said..."we control your screen".
I do have the Ipod files now loaded back into my machine. The originals are still on my Ipod and it plays just fine. I do not have a clue what version of the apple software created them. All I did was use my apple Ipod factory software. Do you know how to find ou what apple version these files are in windows? I am clue less.
I will attempt your path and look for and download the other apple software if you think that will work.
    Resectfully Apple Mike

  • TS2972 Have to keep restarting iTunes for homeshare

I replaced my two Apple TV 2s with Apple TV3s, and now I have to keep restarting iTunes on my iMac to see my libary.
It was flawless before.  I very rarely had to restart iTunes.
I have an iMac (2011, i7), hardwired to an airport extreme, and then the two Apple TVs are hard wired as well.
I'd blame the ATV3s, but I also can't see the library on my iOS devices unless I restart iTunes on the iMac regularly.
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Same issue here :-/
One Apple TV2, one Apple TV3.  Both hard wired into AEBS which in turn is hard wired to a Mac Mini running iTunes.  The library itself is on a HDD attached to the AEBS via USB.  Also two airport express units.
Once/twice a day the remote app on my iPad/iPhone loses sight of iTunes, as do the Apple TVs.  Quick restart of iTunes and we're back in business.  iTunes on the Mac is fully functional in these periods of downtime so it's not like it cannot talk to the hard drive where the library is or anything.  It is EXTREMELY annoying and got worse recently so some update has done something bad.  Everything is running latest versions of software/firmware.
I set something up on my iPhone/iPad so I can restart iTunes remotely which helps A LOT but it's still far from ideal and not very 'Apple'.
