  • How to keep your old number with a new iPhone

    I find this confusing.
I have an iPhone 4 with an AT&T contract.
I am eligible for an upgrade and have ordered an iPhone 5 from Apple.
What steps do I have to take to keep my old telephone number on the new iPhone 5?
I believe this answer from AT&T is nonsense:
Upon reviewing your account I have found the following information. In
order for you to utilize the iPhone 5 on your current phone number, you
must return the iPhone 4 you recently purchased. You will be charged the
restocking fee for the return. You must return it with the original
packaging to the location from which the device was purchased. I show
that you purchased the device at an Apple store.
They can also assist you with preordering an iPhone 5. Once they have
processed your return of the iPhone 4, it should allow them to pre-order
    your iPhone 5.
Can anyone _please_ tell me how I go about keeping my old number when the new iPhone arrives?
    Many thanks.

you should never have to return the product once you bought and are under contract.  At no point can they make you return it.
As far as the iPhone 5 is concerned, just like Brad said, activate it through itunes and if a problem arises just call att.

  • Beware latest itunes update will not let you keep your old password.

updates are stupid. The letest apple itunes update will not let you keep your old password.
Probably pertains to those of us who have kept same password for apple id since inception. New rules make you do all sorts of stupid characters instead of keeping it simple.

sam it sounds like ur password has a low level of security and new update wants to to make it stronger
when it askes to to make ur password just put ur old one back in but replace some letters with caps and numbers
i got them same thing when i updated mine to the new version

I have an old iPhone 4 that finally stopped working.  I have an unlimited data plan and want to keep it.  When I called customer service, I was told like in the past that if you purchase the new phone at full price, you can keep your old plan.  However, after some time on the phone i was told by the csr and supervisor that their system is not allowing them to complete the transaction without changing to a limited data plan.  I was told to try going to a store and buy the phone.  Same thing happened.  Has Verizon changed something and not told their employees?

Seems like people having this problem are those coming from a phone that doesn't have a nano SIM card...so when Verizon issues them one they end up changing their plan. No clue why this keeps happening but stay on top of them. As long as you initiated the request for your plan to be reinstated within the 14 day time frame they should put it back. Interested in seeing how this plays out. There is still one phone in my house that hasn't been upgraded (an iPhone 4). I'm hoping when we do upgrade it at full retail they won't mess with her unlimited data plan

  • Keeping my old number/ WHO CAN I COMPLAIN TO?

I am a long term & loyal BT customer--21 years at one address in one part of Harrow Middx & recently moved to another part of Harrow.
It took ages to get a line`sorted and as we were decorating the new house, we took a new line, new infinity so we can get sky installed when we move and were told by the engineer that taking old number to new house will only require informing operator on 150.
When we were ready to move and requested new number, we were again told YES it can be done BUT we had to close and cancel the previous account, free up the number AND then request it and it will be done. This then took a week.
Now we are being told that it cant be BECAUSE each is in a DIFFERENT EXCHANGE--KENTON or PINNER.
We have been told by engineers that it is possible'as all they do is swich the call to the new number, but operators, based in INDIA tell us that the exchanges don't link to each other.
Does anyone have any ideas of how we can move forward??
Can anyone suggest where I can complain??
the 150 operator say manager is busy--will call you tomorrow--The manager did call & say exactly the same--but the note on their record will show we have been told it is possible & we were encouaged to cancel previous number to release it for use at new house.
Thank you in advance for any help

  • Keep your old music on ipod

i find it hard to keep me old music on my ipod when my computer is crash and i need to reboot my laptop. can someone tell me how to save my music so i dont lose them when i reload the software. coz i keep getting the message (new ipod is plug and do u want to syn and if so that will delete your music and replace them with the music in your itune. please help me.

    Hi Joe!
I want to give my ipod to someone else with all my music on it. When they synch on thier computer, will itunes erase whatever is on the ipod as that music isn't in their copy of itunes?
Yes, iTunes' default settings are, when you connect an iPod to the computer, to automatically sync with the iPod, and replace all of its contents with that of the current iTunes library.
If you are still owning and using this music in your own house, however, then giving a copy of this music (presumably copyrighted) to someone else (again, presumably living in a different house) through your iPod would be illegal.
Again, this would only apply if you were still using the music on your own computer, and if the songs were copyrighted (most music, if not all, on a record label is copyrighted).
Is this what is happening, or am I missing something here?

  • Keeping my old number?

Recently changed from BT to another provider (big mistake) They,O2, cancelled my contract and cut off my home phone by mistake! They tell me i cannot have my old number back which i have had for 30+ years. Is this true? Surely they can request a number if they know it exists and not being used by anyone?

Sorry, there is nothing anyone can do here, you will have to take the issue up with O2.
If you transfer to BT, then you are supposed to be able to take you number with you.

  • Re: Keeping my old number/ WHO CAN I COMPLAIN TO?

    Dear Sir
Please accept this as a formal letter of complaint.
I joined BT 6 to 8 weeks ago, and since then I have been trying my best to get my Virgin Number  ported from Virgin Media to BT. I have been in contact with BT on numerous occasions, being passed from pillar to post. At the beginning I was told that BT can’t request the number form Virgin, as the number was still active. I was told to cancel the number with Virgin, and once the line is disconnected by Virgin Media (VM), I should contact BT, who will then contact Virgin Media, and have the number ported over. I therefore, in good faith gave VM my 30 day notice, and then last week contacted BT (VOL012-********) and I was told that the port will take place this Monday gone. As this did not happen I contacted BT again (VOL012-********)  and spoke to Krishna who informs me that the number port can’t happen as the number is not with-in BT range (whatever that means). He apologised but I wanted to speak to a Manager. I was told that I will get a call back with-in 4 hours, but no call received.
Having spoken to OFCOM I am told that the porting should happen, and I have been asked to refer you to OFCOM’s General Condition 18. – Number Portability.
Please note that I have had this number for 25 years, and I really want to keep this number – *********. Please therefore take urgent steps for this number to be ported from VM to BT. VM have told me that BT have made no request for the number to be ported. Is that true? I am also curious that during one phone call with BT I was told that as the number originally is a BT number, the number will automatically come back to BT, once VM disconnect my phone line. Your comments on this would be very much appreciated.
    Yours sincerely

I have similar problem but have kept my number but BT have got wrong phone number on my account. When I speak to call centre in India they say I can't have it changed because it's allocated already. I keep telling them of course it is because I have got it. They say they will ring me on a certain day but never do. Then send me a text on my mobile to say sorry we missed you we will ring two days time. I think they are ringing the number on my account instead of my actual original number.

  • Why when a contact chacnges phone numbers does my iphone4 keep their old number as well

my friends change their numbers, whey when i try to change them in my iphone4 do the old numbers show up as other?this is very iritating as some contactacts hace 5 numbers with the same name. and adding symbols is out of the question because it confuses other people whom try yo use my phone.

You need to restore your phone as a new device and NOT restore anything from backup.

  • Can I keep old number if I purchase an iphone?

Hello I am new to the iphone world. I presently have a nextel and am looking to make the switch. Can I keep my old number? Also how do I transfer all the info in my chip to an iphone?
    Thanks.

You can port your number over from Nextel to ATT.
You will need to transfer your data to Addressbook on your Mac to save your contact list. Calendar info will be sent to iCal and pics should be transferred to iPhoto. When you sync the iPhone, it will get your contact info out of Addressbook.

  • Maybe moving/ Can I keep my old landline number?

Does anyone know what the parameters are when you move and if you can still keep your old landline phone number?

For a typical land line service, you can keep your number if you are moving within the area served by the same central office.  To know for sure, you need to ask Verizon.
Another option is to port your number to a VoIP provider before you move.  Then, you can use it anywhere that has interenet.  However, you won't be able to port it back to traditional phone company unless you happen to live in the area the phone number first came from.
Some options for VoIP service include Google Voice, Vonage, ooma, and Nettalk.  There are plenty of other options, too.
    Good Luck.

  • How long should it take to get my old number back ...

I moved house 4 working days ago. New house is on same exchange as old, sa asked to keep my old number.
The order is apparently in two parts:
    1) Cease line at old address - done on day "1"
    2) Connect new line at new address - engineers "cancelled" on Day 1. No reasons given on the order and I wasn't contacted to tell me all had gone to a ball of chalk..... I'd have been none the wiser had I not bothered to check.
Over the weekend I spoke with various people, leading to a new order for a new line, to be installed on day "4" (today). It wasn't possible to pull my old number out of the allocatable pool (presumably (good!) it was still allocated to the cancelled order?) The engineers were "asked" in a note on the order to move my old number back onto the line.
This line is now up and running on a temporary number.
As my O2 broadband reconnection is waiting till I have a line with a stable number on it and I am keen to get it back asap, how long should I have to wait? Is there anything that could happen that will sabotage getting my number back and what should I do to prevent this?
    Jon

I am with you on this and am very interested also as to the answer.
I was originally with BT, then moved to Sky as I wanted Sky TV, and thought it best to get the complete package. They never once mentioned, "oh by the way if you move home you lose your number". I think they should highlight this, and then watch there customer base drop.
Anyways, that aside. I have decided to come back to BT, and BT have created a new number at my new address, and when the line is activated I have to call to get a renumber and hope that the number I want hasn't been taken.
i presume by law Sky have to put the number back into the pool, and therefore should be able to get BT to get it back. Fingers crossed.
What reasons could there be that they cant get the number back.

  • I've just got an iphone 4, with a new sim - although iam keeping the same number, my iphone keeps displaying no service??

ive just got an iphone and new sim, im keeping my old number, ive registered my iphone on my p.c but my old phone and number is still active, whilst my iphone keeps displaying a "no service" where the signal bars should be. I think there is a problem with the sim - does anyone know for sure??

Sounds like your new sim is not activated. Call your carrier, they will need the sim number on your new sim. It's a 20 digit number on the back of the sim.

  • Can I use my old number for the new iPhone 5?

I have an ordinary O2 SIM card that in would like to use for the new iPhone 5, I would love to keep my old number because it would be too much hassle with a new number, is this possible?

Sure, go to an O2 store or an Apple store.

  • Why do some of my friends see me under my new iPhone number still when I kept my old number from my other phone?

I recently got an iPhone 5, and wanted to keep my old number from my HTC Wildfire S, so I had a tech person at the T-Mobile store (my service carrier ist-mobile) configure that for me. Under general settings, it lists my old number as the number for my new phone, but some of my friends see me as the iPhone number that was equipped with my iPhone. I've deduced that it might just be other iPhone users having this issue because my friends with other phones, like the Galaxy S for example, still see my as my old number and know its me. What could be causing this issue? And how can I alleviate it? Any help is appreciated!

Oh and I have checked that my iMessage is sending and receiving as my old number and it is.
