Keeps corrupting

I created site with iWeb. Now iWeb won't launch. I followed some of the suggestions here to deal with it, but eventually just deleted the domain file altogether. What am I doing that causes this to corrupt every time. I'm using tiff images. I had this same problem on iMac. I'm doing this on my new MBA. Same problem: create domain, next day, can never open iWeb again. Any suggestions?

It could have been a bad cache file and/or preference file. Try the following:
1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.
If you have a copy of the domain file with your site on it get it back and see if you can open and edit it.
Also heed Alancito's suggestion regarding tiff files and use jpegs instead. That will help make the site faster loading in browsers.

  • Long document with table keeps corrupting

I have a file that is around 300 pages containg a continous table - text only, roughly 13,000 rows that keeps corrupting.
The first file corrupted, so we rebuilt it and when the second one was just about complete, InDesign crashed and now the file will not open... it opens a blank screen but gets a never ending spinny beach ball.
The file also contains nested master pages (total of 2 masters) moved from a book that this file will eventually become a part of.
My question, is the table simply too large for Indesign to handle - (this I find unlikely since I've done similar work many times before) or are the master pages causing an issue or should this file be part of the book before starting it rather than adding it after its finished?
Any thoughts would be appreciated, before we rebuild for the 3rd time. I just want to be cautious to not do anything that might corrupt the book...
    Thanks

Are you patched all the way to 7.0.4?
13000 rows of pasted text. Wow.
Not that it helps at this point, but I'd start doing save as more often, and to a new name so you have some backup versions if it goes south again. An export to .idml (see Remove minor corruption by exporting) if you can get anythign to open certainly won't hurt, either.

  • Mail service keeps corrupting.

    Hello all,
My mail service keeps corrupting on my PowerMac running Mac OS X 10.3 Server.
I have reinstalled my server 3 times due to this problem.
Any one else having the same problem?
    any solutions?
    Thanks,
    Chris

In addition to Alex's request for logs, and more info- I would point out that you are TWO major revs behind. I bet the downtime is worth more than the 499 upgrade (the 10 user limit applies only to filesharing). Give tiger or 10.5.1 a try.
It rarely makes sense to troubleshoot something thats already been fixed by Apple.

  • Mac Mail in 10.6.8 keeps corrupting

My mac mail keeps corrupting and I keep running my disk utilities to fix the preferences which helps for a day or so the back to weird stuff, where when typing characters jump around or it won't let me type at all, then can't send the message after battling through it. Had to shut off one of my mail boxes because it could connect to the server and would just keep spinning. Tried to reistall Snow Leopard and it helped for a couple of days then back to same old. Also rebuilt the boxes.
What should I do to get my mail functioning again?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    Any improvement?

  • Windows keeps corrupting WU stores

I'm not sure if somebody else had this problem before, but for me this keeps happening every couple of weeks. It happened for the third time recently.
Out of the blue on shutdown Windows says that it's installing updates with the typical counter of percent complete going up. This is weird for a couple of reasons. First, no new updates were available. Second, the updates are configured to be confirmed, so
they cannot be applied automatically. I have confirmed in the update history that indeed no update was installed at that time.
So, on the next startup Windows finishes installing fictional updates again with the typical counter going up until it reaches 100% and then the message is displayed that Windows Update Cleanup is taking place (or something to that tune - I don't remember the
exact message). This step takes considerable time, I'd say at least 15 minutes with heavy disk I/O. Then when I'm finally able to login the CPU spikes with TrustedInstaller hogging one CPU core. When TrustedInstaller finally is done with its thing (a long
time, 2 hours or so) I get a pop up balloon saying that new updates are available. The problem is the "new" updates are quite old and I'm positive that they were installed before. Previously it was .NET framework fixpak or something like that, and
this time they are some security updates, one of them even dating back to 2012. If I let the updates to be applied the same set of updates will be displayed again and again. There is no way of getting out of this vicious cycle.
Obviously, Windows Update stores keep getting corrupt, but my question is why Windows keeps doing this to itself?
The Windows application error log has lots of informational events 1001 WindowsWcpOtherFailure3 pointing to Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation:: DirectRegistryProvider::SysOpenKey API call (I assume). There are more details in those events, but I don't think
those details are very relevant here.
Is there a way to restore just the WU stores from backup? What I've been doing so far was to restore the whole partition from the latest image (taken monthly) and then restore all the user data from backups, but this is extremely tedious and time consuming
process, and it seems to be only a temporary fix, as like I said this keeps happening every couple of weeks and there is no reason to believe that it won't happen again.
I'd appreciate all the suggestions as to why is this happening and how to fix the issue without resorting to complete partition restore and then restoring the user data.

    Hi Andy,
Thanks for suggestions. I've already the latest update agent installed on my system. I've reset the WU components, but that didn't help. I'm getting error 80070002 (most of the time) and occasionally errors 80080005 and 80244010. When I checked the WindowsUpdateClient
log that you pointed me to I noticed the same error 80070002 first appearing on 1/25. That's about the time the corruption happened. Before that date there were only informational entries, no errors.
I ran System Update Readiness Tool and this is the log file:

I also found DeepClean.log, which is I believe what Windows did to itself to break WU. It's way too big to paste the content here.
I believe that error 80070002 has nothing to do with temporary update files, because deleting them (part of the WU component reset) doesn't help. I did this several times. I need to somehow restore the missing packages/components listed in the log file.
    Where are they normally stored?
    Thanks.

  • .cab files keep corrupting in Windows XP

    Hi all,
I'm 3 days into trying to install CS3 onto an Xp system so, if you can help me resolve this, you're a genius in my book.  :-)   I keep getting .cab file corruption errors.  I think I've tried just about every trick I could find here in the forums (e.g., copying the disc's contents first to the hard drive, creating a new user account, using CS3 clean script and MS uninstall script, updating MS Installer, and all that jazz).
I eventually tried installing it on a different PC (Vista) and it installed fine there.  I confirmed with 7-Zip's "Test Archive" feature on that system that the cab files on the disc were indeed fine and then copied all the setup files onto a flashdrive and brought that over to the Xp system.  Strangely, no luck...it seems the .cab files get corrupted even on the flashdrive once they are added to the Xp system.  About the only I haven't tried is updating to Xp SP3 (which I'm hesitant to do as I don't want to risk messing up my other programs that work fine with SP2, especially when I don't even know it will fix it).  I read where one guy with a home network installed it using the CD-ROM from one system to install it onto the other system that he was having the install trouble with.  He seemed to believe the problem was a combo hardware/software issue.  I'm thinking of trying this but will need to get it setup.  Do both PCs need to be running the same version of Windows?  Any other possible fixes?

What Flash drives have you tried? Could well be that someting goes wrong when the files get written to them. Still, since it seems you started out with the original discs on the system, that doesn't seem to be the problem. More likely some security tool is scanning the files and damaging or Windows' own DEP has for some reason been set for cabinet files. So I'd definitely look into that. the version of Windows shouldn't matter. CS3 was developed at the high times of XP, so it primarily was made for that andjust the otehr way around, Vista compatibility is the bare minimum required.

  • I was told at the apple store to open a new I-Tunes library and transfer the music from the old library to the new.  He thinks there is a problem with the old library as it keeps corrupting the i-pod.  Any ideas on how???

Was told by the person at the APple store today to open new library on I-tunes - he felt the current library has something wrong and that opening a new library and transferring the music to there would perhaps prevent the ipod from becoming corrupt.   Any ideas how to do this???

Need more info, if you want better response.
What do you mean by corrupting the iPod?
What is wrong with your iPod?
Which version of iTunes are you using?
What is the iPod software  version as shown in the iTunes summary page?

  • Why does iPhoto keep corrupting my images?

For the past year, iPhoto 11 has been tremendously buggy on my early 2011 15" MacBook Pro.  It started under Lion and has continued apace under Mountain Lion.  It first started going haywire and crashing every time I tried opening it after any premature removals or disk use of my camera card in July 2011.  After starting in safe mode and having to rebuild my library several times, it seemed to settle down, and would generally work as long as I restarted the computer after a crash.  However, many of my photos ceased to show up properly--either they wouldn't be there at all, or the pictures and/or their thumbnails would be rotated the wrong way, sometimes with the display dimensions reversed so they appeared improperly squashed or stretched.  This issue mostly affected photos from c. 2001-2005, which I'd brought over from my iMac to save space on the older desktop computer.  (The iMac is backed up with my Time Capsule, but I haven't yet tried to see how that works within iPhoto, nor from my MBP.)
In the past few months, both before and after the installation of Mountain Lion and some updates to iPhoto itself, iPhoto has been acting strangely again.  Whether or not there's any "misuse" of a camera card that precipitates iPhoto's misbehavior, it's often been saying that thumbnails are corrupt and need to be rebuilt, but instead of fixing them it makes even more of them look worse than they did before.  Especially annoying, it seems to have permanently squashed, stretched, and/or rotated most of the images I'd chosen as Event preview images--i.e., it's done the most damage to a lot of the best pictures in each event, and it's been hitting a lot of the more recent photos than the first set of bugs did.  In addition, it quits itself spontaneously at least once per day, and gives an error message when it does so.
I used to love iPhoto, but its behavior lately, and the way it's been corrupting or failing to properly display thousands of my pictures, have been frustrating beyond words.  Has anyone else had problems similar to mine with iPhoto lately?  I really wish I'd never "upgraded" to the current version, because the new functions shouldn't come at the expense of losing or having to manually rebuild and tweak thousands of photos.  Can anyone recommend a solution to stop this from happening further, and to get things back to normal?
    Regards,
    Brian Green

    Where is your Library stored?
What rebuild did you do? iPhoto's own?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Quite often iWeb will not start up and I am forced to quit it. If I delete the prefs all is well.

  • Bootcamp OSX partition keeps corrupting

I have a client that I have set up a Bootcamp system for with Mountain Lion/Win7.  This is a mid 2011 MB Pro 13", Core 2duo, 8GB RAM, 720 GB HD.  I set it up for him and the first night switching from Windows to OSX with the "option" key method at restart.  When selecting the OSX partition it started to boot then shut down.  I worked on the phone several hours with him and couldn't figure it out.
I picked up the MB Pro and reinstalled Mountain Lion and got it working again.  One week has passed and he just let me know that OSX will not boot again.
What could be the issue here?  HD failure is my first thought?  Any ideas would be most helpful.  Thanks in advance!

It could be a drive hardware failure, or it could be other factors.  If the user is using the standard Windows 7 backup software, they could be corrupting their own MacOS partition by performing a test backup/restore.  If you or they have loaded drivers to give them write access to their HFS+ partitions, they could be doing many different things to corrupt the partition.  Using any windows based partitioning tools or drive maintenance tool might also be corrupting the drive. There are a very few windows based tools which actively support working with Mac HFS+ volumes, so using anything other than those could be the source of corruption.

  • Why does iMovie keep corrupting? Must reinstall after every use.

Everytime I use iMovie to create a project, and then quit once I have finished the session, and then go back to it, the icon just bounces once and iMovie fails to open. The application corrupts and I have no idea why ... its not like I'm doing something wrong with it, just transferring my home videos onto DVD, but I swear everytime I quit it corrupts. Its very infuriating. Can someone suggest a reason why perhaps?

There are two common reasons for this:
    A) The project you worked on is corrupt. This may happen when you empty iMovie's trash. So NEVER empty iMovie's trash.
    B) The iMovie preference file is corrupt. This happens from time to time, but not every time you open iMovie. Delete the file: com.apple.imovie3.plist
(Yes, that's the name for both iMovie 3 and 4)

  • Library keeps corrupting - very frustrating

I'm running the latest versions of SL and iTunes on a 27" iMac. Library is held on an external Drobo running the latest firmware. Solution has been stable for 18 months+ until this started happening this week.
3 times in the last week, the iTunes library file has corrupted. So when I startup iTunes, I get the message that its importing "itunes library.xml". When complete, I am left with a library which has about 20% of total items in it. All movies, podcasts and tv shows aren't showing, so I have to re-add each folder to iTunes to get it to pick them up. Much of my music is also not showing and when I do get everything in, its lost a lot of cover art and has media types incorrectly classified.
The machine and Drobo are powered down properly each night, nothing is just switched off while in the middle of something. I've repaired all volumes with disk utility.
Any idea what could be causing this or what I could do to rectify it please?
I'm also unsure if there's an easy way to backup a few files meaning i can restore the library if this happens again, as so far, each one I try to replace, iTunes seems to initialise it as a new library.
    Thanks,
    Mike.

    I've got the same issues.
    Drobo S. OS X 10.7.2. iTunes 10.5
iTunes will not open at all or opens and says iTunes file is damaged and will rebuild. I've tried everything I can think of to do. Repairs, permissions, checks, boot in safe mode, etc. and nothing works.
I'm rebuilding the iTunes file again to see what happens. There is nothing about this in Drobo support.
Anybody coming up with any new info?

  • Keeps corrupting disk partition, even new disk

After 6.5 reliable years, my Macbook Pro (mid-2007 model 3,1) failed to boot, just freezing at the white screen (in Mtn. Lion) even when the shift is held down for "safe boot". Although Disk Utility and Apple Hardware Test found nothing wrong with the hard drive, I replaced it along with the battery with brand new ones. Since then, no matter what OS X version I load (10.6.8, 10.8, Mavericks), the same problem occurs without warning after 2 or 3 weeks of normal use.
Disk Warrior finds one or two damaged, seemingly non-crucial files each time, but their removal does not correct things. I partitioned the disk last time, and loaded Snow Leopard onto both so I would have a spare. Also fixed permissions. But sure enough, after a couple of weeks the partition most used is not openable while the other one still operates beautifully, no twirling beach balls or anything. But I know it's living on borrowed time.
Can a logic board crap out after years pass and permanently corrupt a disk partition while leaving the rest intact? Could a failing PRAM battery do something like this?

Could be that your new disk is also borked, but I would try getting a new SATA cable in the meantime.
    Good luck!

  • Tracker Indexing: Database Keeps Corrupting!?

    Hi,
I am trying to use the tracker indexing, but after running for a while (with or without reboots in between) the miner- and storage-processes still operate, but tracker-search will yield no more results. This is independent of the search term, i have some filenames i check just to know whether it still works or not. Usually it stops after a few days (or about 12h of uptime.....which unfortunately not always translates to several days....). Till this happenes, searching works perfectly.
We are talking about a new Arch 64bit installation, just the mounted drives contain "old" documents. All drives are ext4 formatted, the drive with the index is an SSD with ext4 and noatime, discard as additional mount params. I use e17 as window manager; it has a "start gnome services at startup" option which allows to include tracker. But also when launching tracker-control -s manually i eventually end up with this corruption (if this is the correct term - i call it that because once the search failed i never managed to get it back to work).
All the folders chosen for indexing are subfolders of my home and owned by my user - though there are mutiple drives mounted here. But again: The searches work perfectly for a while.
There is plenty of space left on the drive to allow for further growth of the database. I have no clue how large the database file in ~/.cache/tracker is allowed to become (or what is reasonable). Last time i checked it was 2.2 Gb large, then search stopped working. I have not checked yet if it always dies at this db size.
I checked /var/log and /tmp/tracker-USERNAME for logs or error messages, but theres nothing related. I have no clue where else to look or what might be the cause for this problem. Unfortunately naming the program "tracker" doesnt really help me trying to google for answers (the irony of the tracker bug bugtracker...). Maybe someone has a hint on what I am doing wrong?
    Sorry for the textflood,
    MC.

I had to create a new Access database and move data from the old database into the new one to resolve this issue. Apparently something in the original Access Database file was corrupt.

  • My Itunes Just updated to 10.7.0.21 library and keeps corrupting and removing my library constantly

OK I don't know what is going on with my PC but it has some serious issues it would seem. Important sidenote: I've had some major issues with the 10.7.0.27 update and iTunes.
A few days before installing 10.7.0.27, I opened iTunes and all of my music and playlists were gone. Frustrating, but I keep all my music filed on an external hard drive so I was able to import all of music. I couldn't get back my playlists but that wasn't the end of the world.
I noticed in my iTunes folder (G:/My MUSIC > ITUNES) that there is a file called "iTunes Library (Damaged)" along with my current "iTunes Library.itl". I presume the 'damaged' library is the one where my playlists reside but due to some fault I can no longer access them?
Can I make use of the 'damanged library' and perhaps restore things to how they were? If I cannot use the damaged library then can I delete it?
I checked the 'Previous iTunes Library' but the only library in there is the one from the first day of purchase (so it's empty).
iTunes does seem to be very buggy for me at the moment. Would deleting preferences etc be a good idea at this point? So many issues I Just Want To Be able To Use my Library without having to constantly have to import my thousands of songs over a series of many hours every time i open my itunes.
    Any Help Would be Appreciated.
