Keeps Ejecting PC Disk & Apps Sometimes Cover Desktop on Launchpad

Hi. I'm loving OS X Lion and I like the gesture to bring up Launchpad and I can't wait for all apps to have fullscreen abilities so you could just swipe between apps. I still believe the gestures that Lion replaced specifically the reverse scrolling and on finger swipe is only intuitive if you're actually using a multitouch screen like maybe an angel adjustable multitouch iMac or multitouch Cinema Display which hopefully will be come out in the near future (with option to use the usual keyboard, mouse, trackpad) but I'm kept it on default, maybe it'll grow on me and may actually be more intuitive even for the desktop. I also can't wait for all apps to use Versions. I do hope they change their theme, the colors are too subdued. It's a subdued Aqua. Launchpad's metallic icon is good. I think Apple should change the theme to "subdued Aqua" to anodized aluminum to give icons and UI elements more distinction. Sometimes the color is too subdued, you think it's been click or is not available.
After upgrading to Lion though, sometimes the apps in Launchpad would cover the Desktop on top. I'm not sure if it's because my apps is always maximized (not really in fullscreen mode) or it's a glitch or a bug. If it's not a glitch, what's the solution for this?
Also, I'm not sure if it's Windows on Boot Camp or Lion but my PC DVD keeps ejecting itself which it hadn't done before. Any solution for this as well?
Thank you in advance.

have a macbook.  Whenever I put a disk into the disk drives it keeps ejecting the disk after 2 secs.  How can I fix this?  Thanks

I am also having a similar issue. I used Adobe Lightroom and my whole display goes black. Even my laptop screen and the lights on the keyboard go black. I can still hear the fan running, so I assume it is just the display. This is my first Mac and I have had nothing but issues. I think I am going back to Windows after this.

  • My computer keeps ejecting my disks. What's wrong?

I bought a new computer game and when I put the disk in, it makes the sounds as if its loading the disk, however, nothing happens and it just ejects the disk. I had a disk in last night and it worked just fine. Usually if this happens, it fixes itself after a couple tries. Any help?

Make sure the new computer game meets the Mac OS X Mountain Lion v10.8 requirements.
You can probably find that information from the game manufacture's website.
Just because the game is new doesn't necessarily mean it's v10.8 compatible.
Open a Finder window then press Command + Q on your keyboard to access Finder > Preferrences > General
Make sure:  CDs, DVDs, and iPods  is selected.

  • Trying to back up with time machine for first time. It keeps ejecting the disk a few minutes in. Any ideas?

I am using a WD My Passport to try and do a time machine backup for the first time, on my iMac desktop.
the first couopleo of times I did it, it was really slow and then crashed after a few mins. I started again as if it was a new external harddrive and some home it tarted a bit faster, getitng to aboyt 6GB of the 280GB within 10 mins and then crashed again. All I see is that it is no longer working and a message pops up saying 'Disk was not ejected properly', even though I havent touched it.
Am I doing soemthing wrong or have I got a dodgy external disk?

  • Firewire 800 keeps ejecting my disk

Thought it was a fluke, but it keeps happening. My LaCie drive keeps disconnecting and I get an error message that it was improperly disconnected. I've tried two different firewire cables. I'm not touching the cord. It just suddenly loses the connection. Is it possible that I have a bad firewire port? I just bought the MacBook today. Should I return it for a replacement?

    Hi,
I am encountering a similar eject disk problem. When attempting to clone (with CCC) iMac's internal HD to external firewire 800 connected HD, the cloning stops fairly quickly and Firewire HD is ejected with an error message stating disk has not been properly ejected. The result is that the cloning partition becomes corrupted and can't be repaired by disk utility.
Since I am using a quad interface HD NewerTech Voyager Q ''toaster'' for internal drives, I managed to make a functional clone the iMac HD with usb connection.
But if I attempt to boot with firewire connection the corruption problem is recreated > Backup screwed.
I was wondering if my firewire port could be dead ? I tried multiple times formatting the HD and start the process again but firewire connection and cloning leads to failure at each trial.
Any idea ? (Note: everything in my setup seems up to date)

  • Mac keeps ejecting game disk

I bought X-plane 10 and when ever I insert the disk my Mac doesn't recognise it and just ejects it straight away.
The game requirements are: Intel processor, Mac OS X 10.6 or later, Dual core CPU 2GHz+ with 4GB RAM.
My Mac has: Version 10.9.1, 3.06 GHz Intel core duo, 4GB 1067 MHz RAM.
Should this game work on my computer? Is there anything I can do to make it work?
    Thanks.
    -Ryder.

Check with the develope to see if the app is designed to run with Mavericks! Even though it says it compatible with 10.6.x or later it simply might not be.

  • My mac book keeps ejecting my disk

how can i stop my mac bok from ejecting disk?

Often cleaning the DVD lens will make it functional.  Use a DVD lens cleaning disk.
Occasionally using a different brand of disk will solve the issue.  Verbatim seems to be the best in that regard.
    Ciao.
The last resort is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.

  • Please help! 1TB SSHD drive in my optical bay keeps ejecting itself.

I recently purchased a 13in macbook (non-retina, build 13e28), 500gb HD with the optical drive running the latest version of Mavericks 10.9.4.  I decided to install a Samsung SSD (120gb) along with a 1TB Seagate SSHD (a hybrid SSD).  My intention is to use the SSD for startup and for all my apps and to use the SSHD for storage of my music.  I have all my music from my 2008 macbook in an external disk and while I was transferring all my files (music, movies, pictures, documents, & downloads) the SSHD ejected on its own and I was prompted with a small window that said "Disk Not Ejected Properly - Eject "SSHD" before disconnecting or turning it off".
I've rebooted several times and even re-installed the OS on my SSD to see if that would fix anything.  I also verified/repaired disk/permissions on the SSHD and it still keeps ejecting the disk within 2 minutes of re-booting.
Can someone please help me resolve this?  Thank you!

Check the specs for storage of your macbook. It probably can only handle up to 750 GB.

  • Superdrive keeps ejecting disk on Mavericks sign on.

I've just installed a fresh copy of Mavericks and have a strange problem.
My Apple Mac Pro "Eight Core" 2.4 (2010/Westmere) boots up fine until it gets to the Mavericks sign on screen and if there is a disk inside the superdrive then ejects it. I have 1 superdrive and a MCE Blu-Ray drive and both behave in the same manner.
So, I booted up from my old LM and it doesnt do it, I cant ever recall my Mac doing this in LM, Lion or SL, Leopard.
My Mavericks install has various software installed on it and thought it may be one of the apps playing up and causing the disk to eject. I formated a new drive and installed Maverick on it and it still ejected the disk.
So, software ruled out! I set about resetting my NVRAM & PRAM still didn't cure it.
Booted up in Safe Mode and still the same.
Ran Apple Hardware Test (AHT) no problems found.
Ran pernissions repair and still keeps doing it.
I know the simplest thing would be not to have a disk inside the drive but it's little things like this that eeeeerrrrrr!!!!!! you know what I mean!
I'm out of ideas, anyone else have this problem? and help?

  • Mac Keep Ejects Installation Media, Hard disk is empty, How to install OSX

I installed Ubuntu in my Mac Mini, Later my apple wireless keyboards pairing is not working and to pair i need to have OS X installed, since no osx installed, to boot i used to press the option key. So now I formated linux, now my hard disk is empty no partition or nothing. But the problem is my mac mini keeps ejecting OS X installation media (original dvd set came with mac mini) but I can boot from ubuntu live cd. How can I solve this problem. Some one told me to reset my pram, but I was unable to do it. Pressing Command Option P R does nothing. Please help me out. without my machine working I'm like a dead man.

Yeah I managed to get one, and tried c key to boot from the disk. It doesn't work. The current status of my machine is. My hard drive is clean (unpartitioned space, I formated it). Still Mac Ejects OS X installation media which came with the mac mini, But I can boot using Ubuntu,Solaris, etc disks and I can install them. How can I install OS X in this situation. Since I'm doing my PG course in Computer Science, the system is an urgent stuff for me.. Please help me out.
And why mac is ejecting the actual original installation media even when it's taking all other disks ?? I tried two different disks to make sure if it's the trouble of the disk, but that's not the case. I only ejects OS X disks and ejects all OSX Disks (i tried tiger disk, and leopard disk)

You have entirely too little free space on the boot drive, for best performance it's best to have hard drives only 50% filled max and never more than 80% filled.
See Storage Drive here and reduce some space also make a seperate bootable clone backup of all your data BEFORE upgrading
    Most commonly used backup methods
see here for how to find your disk space
    Why is my computer slow?
If you upgrade and it doesn't go right or slows the machine down you might need to erase and install, which all your programs will have to be reinstalled from original sources and files from backup.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If you can't do this, then hire a local PC/Mac specialist.
Do not upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 on that older machine, it will slow down and you will lose all your PPC based programs.
Leave the Lions for a brand new machine with a SSD drive.

  • My MBP keeps ejecting my install disks!

I thought I'd make backup copies of my SL disks, but the Machine keeps ejecting them. It reads other disks just fine, including the Tiger install disks off an iMac.
The SL disks will read fine in the iMac, but the MBP doesn't want them!
And once I've solved that, how do I copy them? On the iMac I keep getting the installer if I click on the disk icon.

The SL disks are DL DD DVD's. Perhaps your optical drive is having problems reading those. Take it to an Apple store or AASP.
How to Make a Non-Commercial DVD copy of MAC OS X
    Making a DVD Image:

Step 1. Insert the retail Mac OS X Install DVD into your drive.

Step 2. Launch Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities).

Step 3. In Disk Utility, you will notice a white pane on the left hand side. In the pane, select the Mac OS X Install DVD by clicking on it once.

Step 4. Click New Image on the Disk Utility toolbar.

Step 5. A dialog box will appear. Give the new image a name. I used 'Mac OS X Install DVD'. Select the destination where you wish to save it. Leave Image Format at Compressed (default) and Encryption at None (default).

Step 6. Click Save to begin creating the image.

Step 7. Once your image has been created DO NOT mount it. Leave the image alone and proceed to the next section.

Burning the Image:

Step 1. Launch Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities).

Step 2. Click Burn on the Disk Utility toolbar (upper left).

Step 3. Navigate to where you saved the DVD image created in the previous section. Click on the image file, then click the Burn button. Do not drag and drop the image file into Disk Utility during this step.

Step4. Insert a DVD when prompted and proceed to Burn it. (use good quality media).

  • Since installing OS 10.8 keep getting "This disk was not ejected properly" messages. Why?

Since I installed Mountain Lion (OS 10.8) on my Mac Book Pro (early 2011), I keep getting "This disk was not ejected properly" messages. No yet sure what I do preceeding this occurence. Anyone else have this problem?

I am one of those who had experienced this kind of problem.  My former Time Machine disk used to automatically eject itself when my iMac sleeps, hence upon waking up my iMac. i always get the error message that the disk was not properly ejected.
From what I was able to gather from my experience, until the time that I found a workable solution, I think I can say that the problem is most probably caused by the incompatibility of certain external drives with how the iMac operates when on sleep and upon waking up.  Some external drives are just not able to cope with how the iMac tries to remount a connected disk after it wakes up from sleep.  There are just some external drives that cannot continue to be mounted after the iMac wakes from sleep.  There are just some external drives that are not responsive enough. In other words, the existence of the problem lies with the type of external drive you are using.
My former Time Machine disk, the problematic one, was an Imation M300 Apollo 1 TB external disk.  It unmounts everytime my iMac went to sleep, but does not remount after waking up the iMac.  The disk will continue to be unmounted until I physically remove its USB connector and replug it in the iMac.
I replaced my former Time Machine disk with my current one, a Transcend Storejet 1 TB.  And the problem went away.  The Transcend disk continue to be mounted after the iMac is woken up even from the longest of sleep.  I have even the energy saving option "put the hard disk to sleep..." checked.  The Transcend disk comes with a Y cable, i.e. it has two USB connectors, but I only connect the one for both data and power--and it still remains mounted even after waking the iMac from sleep.
The sad realization, however, is that since there are only some external drives that are not able to work with the iMac, no matter how many those some may seem to be, it will be highly unlikely for Apple to itself fix this kind of a problem.
I, therefore, make the following recommendations:
    1.  Check first if your problematic disk has a firmware upgrade available.  In some cases, the firmware upgrade may be enough to make the disk more responsive to the iMac waking up.
    2.  If there is no firmware upgrade available, check if your power/data USB cable is properly working.
    3.  If your power/data USB cable is in order, and the problem still persists, I think it is inevitable that you have to replace the problematic disk with a newer one that could respond well with the iMac's wake/sleep operation.  With what disk will you replace your problematic one?  I can only recommend from my personal experience the Transcend disk I mentioned earlier.  You may also search this forum on other brands of disks that may also work.
    Regards.
