Keeps importing videos every synch
Since I updated to iPhone OS 4.1 Windows Photo Gallery treats all the old videos on the iPhone as new at synch time and wants to import them all again. I let it do it once but then it still wanted to do it next synch, and does so every time, after two separate imports it still wants to import the videos.
Apple tech support is no help even though this behaviour started only at 4.1. I've tweaked setting in Windows Photo Gallery to no avail. Only videos keep getting reimported, not photos.
I'm in a bind because I can only refuse the importation as a whole, and when I actually do have new pictures to import I won't be able to without reimporting the videos.
Another odd thing. When I let it import duplicates, the icon for the .mov file on the duplicates does not display a preview thumbnail as the original imports do.
The Camera Roll is for temporary storage as with any other digital camera and as with any other digital camera, photos/videos can be deleted from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete. If you want any of the recently imported items available on your iPhone for viewing, the photos and/or videos can be transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync/transfer process. This will also help keep the time it takes to update your iPhone's backup to a minimum when syncing your iPhone to iTunes.

Not sure why this changed with 4.1 with Windows Photos Gallery but this has more to do or everything to do with the application used for the import. With iPhoto on my Mac, if I don't delete photos and/or videos from my iPhone's Camera Roll after the import process is complete, if I select Import All with a following import all will be imported again with a warning that some of the items have already been imported and will be duplicated - what do I want to do with the duplicates - use the existing or replace the existing that was already imported - I can go though this prompt for each duplicate or there is an option to apply to all duplicates with my selection for the first duplicate. After the import process is complete, there is a prompt to delete the imported items from the Camera Roll which is provided after importing photos or videos from any digital camera.

IPhoto keeps importing videos even after saying "No"
A while back I connected my still digital camera which contained a few videos along with my photos. After importing I deleted almost all my photos and none of my videos, I wanted to leave some of the photos and the videos on the camera.
Now when I import photos from my camera it asks if I want to import duplicates, I select "No", and "Apply to all". This works for the photos but not the videos, it keeps importing duplicate videos into iPhoto.
Is that correct, shouldn't it not if I select No? Or does that not apply to the videos? If that's not correct is there a setting I can change to fix that?
If that's how it is would upgrading to iLife '08 fix that?

WesleyiPhoto 6 was not good about respecting that choice when importing from a different volume. I've seen less reports about the issue in later versions. As iPhoto 6 has not been updated since 06, I would not hold out hope of a fix for that version.

Mac keeps freezing when trying to import video
When I try to import video to my i5 iMac 21.5" it gets to about 5 seconds and then freezes the copying file tab has been on the screen constant now for 2 days, it plays all the video directly from disk but I am trying to put them on an external HDD which is formatted as per the reccomendations. This is happening virtually everytime I try and copy any files including to the local drive. Also whilst Im on the subject I installed a printer and for some reason it keeps dropping the printer so I have to install it every time I want to use the printer. Both the HDD and printer are compatible with apple mac and all the files as I said earlier run from CD/DVD. Im running OSX Lion and apart from the files I am trying to import and the printer software its a vanilla build.
Try trashing iMovie preferences. They are in your home library>preferences.

Like the title says...
I can't upload or import videos from my iphoto library, into final cut pro x. When i click, IMPORT MEDIA in FCP, It lists 'iPhoto Library' as GRAY, and will not let me select it. I need the videos out of there. I have tried every way I can think of.
I have also tried from the iphoto side, to export the videos or share them to final cut. I have had no luck.
I have tried to drag and drop indidual video clips from iphoto to fcp, and the programs simply do not respond to each other
I can see in the OLDER version of final cut pro x, where it has IMPORT FILES as an option, it was possible. I see this on forums and youtube videos of the older versions.
However, the newer version that i have, does not have IMPORT 'FILES' as an option, it is simply all lumped together as IMPORT 'MEDIA'

So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...

using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?

I keep getting the message "macintosh hd disc full" when I try to edit or import video. How can I make room?
You can go to Applications, Utilities, Activiy Monitor to see just how much space is available. To free space you need to remove files that take a lot of space, things like videos, photos, music. Get an external hard drive, OWC http://www.macsales.com has a good selection, and move material off the internal drive.

Premiere Elements 7 keeps crashing when trying to import video from webcam, can i fix it? :s
I'm running it on my Sony Vaio laptop I got as a desktop replacement, specs aren't a problem, it runs perfectly with anything I do except for when I try to import video footage from my webcam under Get Media From.. Webcam or WDM Device. Every time I try, it just crashes. The webcam is built into the laptop and works just fine on any other program.
Any help would be very much appreciatedWelcome to the forum.
What is the format of those Webcam files?
Also, along with the format, it would be useful to know the CODEC used by the capture software. The great, free utility, G-Spot, should be able to give you that info. Here's look at the G-Spot screen, w/ an AV file loaded:

iphoto 9.5.1 will not import videos with .mpg extension from my pictures folder and keep getting a OSStatus error-54. Is there a way I can import such videos to the iphone library? Pls help.
This is what that error means:

Software lock on file; Not a subscriber [permissions error on file open]
Download and launch BatChmod. Put the videos into a subfolder and drag that folder containing the video files into the Batchmod window. Make sure you are the owner and have R,W, X access as well as the group. Everyone will have R only.
Check the Change ownership and privileges, Unlock and Apply to enclosed boxes and then click on the Apply button. When done try importing the files again.

Recently purchased a Sony A99 and when i try to import video to I movie 08 it keeps crashing, anyway to fix?
RegrdsI'm not familiar with either your camera or iMovie 8 but you have a very recent camera and a very old version of iMovie so i'm not too surprinsed that there are incompatiibility problems.
What format are the video files from your camera? (If its AVCHD I'm not sure this wasn't even invented when iMovie 8 came out.)
Are you are trying to import directly from the camera into iMovie?
You may have to copy the directory from your camera to your hard disk with the finder and then convert the clips into a format accepted by iMovie 8.
What Mac do you have?
If you can I would advise updating to iMovie 9 - this requires iLife '11 and Snow Leopard or later (and for AVCHD a Core2Duo processor or later)

Importing Video stops at 19:56 every time
I'm having trouble importing video into iMovieHD. It will import in chunks of 19 minutes and 56 seconds and then stop importing. It's got to be some setting that I've got on, but I can't seem to locate it. Anu suggestions?
Thanks!btw3000, what you describe is not typical, which suggests the problem may be with the video itself, not with iMovie or your disk.
Does the import stop at the same spot on the tape each time? If so, that suggests a defect in the tape. If could be a flaw in the tape, or a break in shooting the video, where user error introduced a few seconds of "dead" time. iMovie watches for that, which normally signals the end of the recording.
Does it work okay with other tapes?
If the import stops at IRREGULAR intervals, or the image shows defects, that might suggest dirty tape heads. Try a tape head cleaning tape.
When troubleshooting a problem like this, it sometimes helps to shoot 30 minutes or so on a new, unused tape. (But after using a head-cleaning tape.) Just let the camera record traffic or something. The video content will tell you whether everything is working. If the traffic suddenly stops with no brake lights coming on, the import failed.
If the traffic tape imports okay, the problem is not with iMovie, your computer, or your FireWire connection. That rules out a ton of potential problems, so it's a good test to do.

I am looking for a map app that will allow me to place pins where my clients offices are on a map and keep them save every time I open the app. Does anyone out there know of an app that will do this?

While all you want is just to place pins, realize that Motion has so much more. All kinds of effects and they can be really customized. Maybe put their street address, contact name, and phone number by the pin?

If you're using the map for, say, deliveries, and use an iPad, what you could do is have a general map of the area imported into Motion, create the pins and whatever, then save (share?) it to the iPad.

I'm trying to make GIFs from videos but every time I try importing 'Video Frames to Layers', it keeps telling me I need to download QuickTime 7.1 or higher! So I downloaded it and it DOESN'T DETECT that I downloaded it! So I decided to enable the codec in QuickTime to Photoshop, THAT DOESN'T WORK EITHER! So I uninstalled it and reinstalled QuickTime and IT STILL DOESN'T WORK!
WHAT THE HELL? WHY WON'T THIS WORK??? AAAAGGGHHHHH!!!!!!Something is blocking the qtserver32.exe and dynamiclinkmanager.exe on your system. These auxiliary components are required to provide access to QT features. turn off your virus scanner, check your firewall etc.

Problems with importing video tape into iMovie '08
I'm using a canopus advc 110 to import video tapes from a vhs recorder into iMovie. BUT, the process often stops after only a few minutes when I still have a long way to go. I'd like to be able to leave it to work for 20-minute chunks (longer if possible, but I think that's about the limit), but it keeps stopping after a few minutes. When I come back in the room, it keeps trying to import (time in upper right corner keeps going) but had quit earlier according to time on the lower center of the iMovie screen. This is adding to my frustration and time, which is limited. Any suggestions??
The canopus advc 110 will work IF you have a perfect tape.
Look at the Grassvalley ADVC300 it has the ability to compensate for bad tapes. The ADVC300 is for anyone who wants to do editing and is concerned about quality of color and speed, for the novice it is an incredible gizmo that will restore VHS tapes to a state close to the original fixing midtones, highlights and shadows on the fly. Not only can you simply convert analog to digital you can actually manipulate the signal going in (if you want to).
A bit pricey bit it WORKS.
I would use iMovie 06 with iDVD 08/09.
iMovie 08 and 09 uses 'single field processing' meaning every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. iMovie 06 uses ALL of the image to form the video.
Your workflow is editing DV clips and making DVDs, so iMovie 06 is better suited. Your movie will arrive at iDVD in DV format, which is an ideal match for making a DVD: same resolution, same pixels aspect ratio, and original quality. If you share your movie from iMovie 09, it gets re-rendered at 640x480 or less, and then iDVD upscales it back to 720x480. The end result is obviously not as good.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09 is a "lossless" combination.
iMovie 09 is a wonderful programs assuming that you're using it for what it was designed to do, assemble videos to share on the Internet.
