My dad gave me his iphone because his O2 contract ran out i have put my O2 sim card in it but it just says No Service. What should i do?

Call your carrier and let them know you have an iPhone. Many, if not most carriers, require you have a plan provisioned specifically for the iPhone, including a data plan. If you don't have an account that's set up properly, you may not get service at all until they fix that.

The phone has a 1 year warranty. If it is defective, or has failed within the warranty period, and it was not physically damaged, hacked, or jailbroken, Apple will replace it under warranty.
If it is outside of the 1 year warranty, then you can get an out of warranty replacement from Apple for US$149 (for an iPhone 4).
Where things stand between you and your cellular carrier is not a concern to Apple.

It's the phone, well possibly the firmware on the phone.ots of people have this issue. I have O2 send three sim cards, run network diagnostics, send an engineer to check the nearest three mobile masts and everything was deemed to be running very well.
The only option I am left with, and O2 strongly recommended this, was to phone Apple Care and arrangement an appointment at the nearest Apple Store. After just three minutes on the phone the Apple employee had arrangement a phone replacement and he said the staff will not bother even asking questions apart from requesting identification which is pretty good... But worrying all the same. They were really quick to offer a replacement, I wonder if they are aware of a faulty batch or something.
I have your issue and I know how frustrating it can be, four bar 3G one minute and No Service the next. Have you had the equally annoying late SMS text arrivals yet?

Text messages are sent via the cellular network, not wi-fi. Only iMessages are sent via wi-fi. Unless you have roaming turned on for the phone, or you have an unlocked phone that you installed a local SIM, you would continue to see No Service. That reflects your cellular carrier service. Connecting to wi-fi has no bearing on your cellular service, which is what displays on the status bar of the phone near the signal bars (circles/dots).

I have had an iphone2,iphone3gs and now i have the iphone 4s for about 8 weeks,first my battery got extremely hot and then i had to regularly reset the network settings to get a decent edge or 3G connection.
now since i have had the phone it has jumped between edge and 3G to the point of me wanting to throw it against a wall,but the last week i have had the phone jump between between no service and edge signal(mostly no service)so here is a list of everything i have done but its still not working:
1)reset network settings
2)reset entire phone from general settings
3)hard reset from pressing home and lock button simultaneously
4)loaded new ios5.1
5)fooled around with every possible setting putting it on and off checking for signal
6)and no,its not my sim,its a brand new microsim.
i got some signal this morning when i put the 3G off(because you can now do that with new ios5.1) long enough to download an app from the i store(i had to because when i tried to open up an app from my home screen it doesnt open,looks like its about to open then just closes itself immediately.
does anyone else have these problems,im frustrated with this,im a looooong time apple and mac user but im getting fedup right now,istores are also clueless...

i am in south africa and currently on the mtn network,network is fine as no one else is experiencing internet problems.
also currently after doing everything i could think of,my iphone 4s is now just saying searching constantly....no service whatsoever no matter what i do.

TS4429 In top left hand corner my phone keeps saying no service and then swapping to searching

I have had a new screen fitted on my Iphone and now the sim card not working, in top left corner it keeps just from No Service to Searching, can anyone help. Phone is now out of guarntee so apple not able to help.

Seems whomever replaced the screen damaged the device. Take it back to them and demand they either correct the issue or replace your iPhone with a functional iPhone.

I just got it today and did all i need to do. Since I'm using my old sim, i apparently had to call my carrier and tell them my IMEI # and stuff. I just did a while ago, told them the correct IMEI #, and they said they activated it or something. But the "No service" thing is still right there. I told them about that and they said that Apple gave me a wrong SIM or something, but I don't know if they'll do that since I bought it from the aunthentic one. I tried restarting it and restoring, but it wouldn't work. Help anyone?
Also, I think I'll go to the Apple store ASAP, should I still make an appointment or can I just walk in?

4s Keep saying "No Service" when out of state

On a recent trip to Houston from Florida, my phone kept giving me "No Service" when I got off the plane.
I kept fiddling with settings and rebooting and it finally connected. What could have caused that?
I travel a lot for business and need the phone to work 100% of the time...

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you have no service on the iPhone. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. There is one step you did not mention trying that i think is worth trying.
If you see No Service in the status bar of your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
Remove the SIM card. If the SIM card is damaged, worn, or bent, or if it's too big or small for the SIM tray, contact your carrier for a new one. Then reinsert the SIM card.

I got an iPhone 4 for my birthday yesterday and when we went to activate it, we turned it off after like it said to, and I turned it on about two hours later and it keeps saying 'No Service'. It connects to wifi but doesn't pick up any service. Help!?

Also, I know there is service at my house (it's not the location) because my mom has the same phone and hers works just fine. Did I maybe turn it on too soon? And if so, how can I fix this problem? DESPERATE.

it seems like it hasn't registered with your carrier yet? try a hard reset, LOCK+home button until it shuts down and restarts, see if that helps any, please post back

Verizon iphone 5 keeps saying no service, help please!

my aunt gave me her Verizon iphone 5, so i poped in a tmobile pre paid nano sim card and it worked for two days then out of no where it said no service and its been like this for a month. i tried refilling but nothing worked. please help!!!!

You can try and re-set the network settings and see if that helps. If not, you may want to restore it.
If there's a problem with the SIM, you need to take it to T-Mobile. We can't do anything about it. If they verify that the SIM is good, or give you a replacement and it still doesn't work, then make an appointment at the genius bar and have them look at it.
