Keithley 236 SMU and Keithley 2182

Hi
I am new in labview and I would like to measure voltage from Keithley 2182 triggered from Keithley 236 SMU in delta mode.
I did not see any command for delta mode in Keithley 236 SMU. So I don`t know how to send two opposite current and read in the Nanovoltmeter.
Is there any simple vi. for this operation
Thanks
Ser.

Hello 454,
Have you downloaded the LabVIEW drivers from Keithley's website?
http://www.keithley.com/support
I took a look at what's available and there are triggering examples in the .llb files.

  • 1073807202 error in Keithley 2401 SMU

    Every one.
I am using Labview 2012. I am trying to interface Keithley 2401 SMU with laptop via Keithley-GPIB KUSB 488B. When I am trying to run the program, it is indicating error 1073807202. I have reinstalled all the labview software, NI-VISA (latest), drivers and 2401 library files, but the problem remain as the same.
Can any one hepl me. I need to fix this problem as soon as possible as I need this for my research purpose.
Also can u suggest me the SOP (Standard operating procedure) sequence for installing labview, NI-VISA and instrument driver.
    Thanking you
    Avishek Das

The error is probably due to your use of a Keithley controller instead of one from NI. Have you checked with them about using their hardware? How does the controller show up in MAX?

  • Keithley 236 with C#

    Dear all,
We would like to develop a software with the Keithley Measure Unit Model 236, C#, National Instruments Gpib interface and Measurement Studio 8.0.1.
Do you have experience how this can be realised? I could only find examples and drivers for LabView.
    Thanks in advanced.
    Best regards.

    Hi agent,
I could only find LabVIEW drivers for your unit as well. So if there is no C-API for it, you have three choices in my opinion:
    -  using our NI-488.2 + VISA drivers to write an instrument-driver for the Keithley 236 yourself
    -  converting the LabVIEW-driver to a dll, which you can call in C#.
For the conversion you need LabVIEW + LabVIEW Application Builder for building the DLL
This would be the quickest and most convenient way. Do you own LabVIEW ?
    -  requesting a driver at www.ni.com/idnet
Since there is no C-API at this time, there are no respective examples on the web. But there are general VISA-Examples
for C# coming with the NI-VISA driver. So you just have to install it.

  • Hi, can someone help me how can i connected my multimeter to my pc with rs232, because my computer can´t recognize the device, i mean the multimeter, is a multimeter keithley serie 2400, and i already downloaded all the drivers for labview even the VISA

hi, can someone help me how can i connected my multimeter to my pc with rs232, because my computer can´t recognize the device, i mean the multimeter, is a multimeter keithley serie 2400, and i already downloaded all the drivers for labview even the VISA

    Marco,
    Here are some suggestions:
    1) Check the manual the Keithley manual to see how to configure the RS-232.
On some models you need set Factory defaults to USER and turn on the RS-232.
Also there may be a setting for SCPI which you want on (probably on by default).
    2) On your PC - open Device Manager. See if a COM port exists and is functional.
You must get this working before continuing.
You can set the COM port parameters by right clicking and selecting Properties.
(On some PCs the onboard ports can be disabled in the BIOS)
    3) If step two was OK, open MAX (Measurement and Automation eXplorer).
On the left side, click on Devices and Hardware.
        Click on Serial and Parallel.
Go to the COM port you found in Device Manager.
        Open a VISA Test Panel.
Now I don't have one I can look at right now, so this is general idea:
Configure the COM port to match the Keithley settings (should be OK if step 2 worked)
Go to the (I think) Input Output tab (you want to send a command)
The command string input should already have a *IDN? entered, if not, type it in.
Click on the Query button to send the command and check the response.
If you get an ID string back (Company name, Model, FW Version ...) then it works.
(Disregard an error saying it did not get enough charcters back.)
    I hope this helps,
    steve

  • Keithley kusb-488A and Labview

    Hi,
I'm using a keithley GPIB kusb-488A to control a keithley 487 Picoammeter, and I'm having some problems with it interaction with labview.
I'm using LabVIEW 2010 and the GPIB driver from Keithley (version 9.2).
When I run the program "GPIB Diagnostic", everything is ok, but when I try to run my program it don't write the voltage in the device. It seems to read ok, but write wrong. I don't understand why, because this program runs ok in another computer in a older version of labview and GPIB driver.
    Thanks for all your help,

  • PPC G5 quad will not start up after resetting SMU AND PRAM

    Hi folks
I been having issues with my G5,  where it would freeze up unexpectedly and then the fans would come on full tilt.
I received some advice about resetting the SMU and the PRAM.
Now my mac dose not get past the grey screen.  I have to hard drives attaches one has OS 10.4.11 the other has Leopard.
Odd thing about the Pram is I never got the mac to re-chime.
Also I was advised at the apple store to disconnect power for 30 sec and then hold the power button on for 20 sec after the restarting. I heard an odd tone and then the fans came on.
Btw this model does have the SMU button which I pressed when the power was off.
As the unit will not run with the fans removed.
    Any suggestions?
    Much appreciated
12 gig of ram in the 8 slots.  All FireWire , Ethernet  and USB disconnected

There is a battery that makes the PRAM work.  You may need to replace the battery.
You may also need to limit your RAM to two 1 GB modules, making sure they are made for the PowerMac G5 of your machine's age.  Not all 533 MHz PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM. will work with the machine, it has to be specifically made by the age of the Mac model, and Mac model name according to the vendor.  Thus if you have a Quad Core Mac from 2005, that's what you need to buy RAM for.  Do not buy 533 Mhz PC2-4200 RAM just because it says it is that.
http://www.crucial.com/ and http://www.macsales.com/ specify the model and age of Mac in their store.
Others may too, but do not have ValueRAM or non-lifetime warranty RAM.
Lastly, your model may have liquid coolent that has run out or gotten old, making it not boot.  If unsure where it is, ask an authorized service center.  Some have leaks and won't boot at all.

  • Labview and Keithley 2425 SourceMeter

    Hi,
I was wondering if LabView can run test on the Keithley 2425 SourceMeter without me touching the sourcemeter?  Can I change the varibles such as the voltages I sweep as well as the compliance current through LabView? Is the there an option to choose 2 wire or 4 wire sense testing in LabView?  Also I have a PCMCIA-GPIB card and I already have the 2425 communicating with LabTracer 2.0.  I was wondering if LabView can pretty much do the same as LabTracer and more?

    Hi Matt,
for all things mentioned by you you only have to open the manual of your sourcemeter, there's a whole chapter on commands to program the meter. You simply have to send the right command the the sourcemeter..
Or you search in the instrument driver network (IDN) for some drivers ready to use: IDN and K2425...

  • NI GPIB card and Keithley 181 nanovoltmeter

I'm trying to control a Keithley 181 nanovoltmeter via a NI GPIB (AT-GPIB/TNT).
If I scan for instruments in Measurement and Automation, none of the devices
connected are found. However, if I go into Interactive control, use IBDEV
    with
the meter turned off, then turn the meter on I can set into remote and it
    works
(as long as I alternate IBRD and IBWRT). But I can't find a way of getting
    it
under control in any other way so I can't use it in LabView.
Anyone have any ideas. I've always had problems with 181s using a variety
    of languages.
    Cheers
    paul

    Hi,
There shouldn't be any interaction between the two GPIB drivers. The NI interfaces will use NI-488.2, wil the Keithley interfaces will use their low-level device driver. Each driver will manage the their own hardware.
In LabVIEW, you will use the NI-488.2 Vis to communicate with the NI interface. The Keithley driver has to install their own driver interface VIs.
The only problem is you want to use VISA for both interfaces. I don't know if there is a Keithley implementation of VISA, but there can nly be one installed in the system. The NI_VISA driver will allow you to control the NI interface, but not the Keithley interface. You can still use the Keithley interface using the low-level driver.
Finally, here is a knowledge base I found that has
some information that may be useful to you Using a Keithley PC488 GPIB Interface with LabVIEW
    Hope this helps.

  • Labview drivers for Keithley 181 nanovoltmeter and Lakeshore DR-91C temp controller

    Hi,
I am looking for labview GPIB drivers for the following instruments.
    1. Keithley 181 nanovoltmeter
    2. Lakeshore DR-91C temperature controller
I will greatly appreciate information about the above.
    Sincerely,
    A.V. Mahajan

    Hello,
I just searched the web for both of these and was unable to find anything...I found a CVI driver for the Keithley 181 on the NI website, but I doubt it would be a simple conversion with the "Convert CVI Instrument Driver" utility in LabVIEW...it certainly wouldn't hurt to try, however. Anyway, I guess about the only option you have at this point is to contact the manufacturers of those devices and see if they have any un-published drivers...perhaps they're not supported, but it's better than nothing.
Good luck in your search. Have a good day.

  • LabView and Keithley PC488-Card

    Hi,
I hope somebody can solve my problem: I have a Keithley PC<>488
GPIB-Interface installed and want to get it work with LabView. There are
compatibility-drivers shipped with the interface, but they don't work.
The driver is installed, but I can't communicate (through LabView) with
    the PC488.
My System runs under Windows NT. I can exclude hardware conflicts,
because under DOS (test programs that come with pc488) communication
    works.
    Thanks,

    Hi Michael
I have had the same problem.
My keithley card is an old XT slot card
This card is a CEC card .
    On http://www.cec488.com/gpibupgd.htm you
    can download the driver to
    simulate an NI-Gpib card.
Than you must install the driver with ADD new Hardware , Find Capital
    Equipment Corp. etc.
    THe LAbview GPIB.vi works fine.

  • Keithley 6430

    Good Day,
Does anyone know how to use the instrument drivers of the above mentioned instrument?
I am currently trying to replace Keithley 236 Sourcemeter with Keithley 6430 sourcemeter. However, inside the LABview programme that i am using, I am experiencing difficulty in replacing the K 236's VIs with those of K 6430.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

    Hello,
Generally instrument drivers have the following major categories:
initialize/open, configure operation, perform measurement, utility functions, close
If you don't have a driver, then you'll need to program using an API which will interface your instrument; this requires that you have knowledge of the commands that the instrument understands; the instrument manual and the manufacturer are really the only place to obtain such information.  Many instruments respond to common commands, such as *idn?, *tst?, and *rst, (which perform an instrument query, self test, and reset respectively).  Usually a question mark being sent implies that the instrument will reply, which means you'll want to read after you write the command.
If you are only looking for a subset of the instrument's functionality, you should be able to program using an interface API (such as VISA) fairly easily.  Of course if you have the driver, that will be easier and faster.  Note that the above "major categories" are generally in the order in which they are called in a given program.
Feel free to repost if you have further questions, and we'll try to help you further!

  • Does signalexpress support keithley 2400 series source meter?

I am a stranger to labview, but willing to use Labview signalexpress 2.5 to realize data acquisition from keithley 2000 multimeter and keithley 2410c source meter.
After installation of drivers for 2000 and 2410 download from NI.com, I was able to choose the driver of keithley 2000 from signalexpress at the device setup, and It work well for data acquisition. However when I duplicate the same process for keithley 2410c, the driver installed was not availabe for selection. There are a few of drivers for 2400 series at NI.com, I downloaded the file of 16M for labview. Is it available for labview signalexpress?
By the way, both device were availbe in the GPIB (from the MAX, tests passed ) with different GPIB address.
    Thanks for your help~

    Lynn,
If memory serves me correctly this is possible.
The easiest way I got it working was to first get it all ticking along ok in their Lua based IDE, then once the script was working perfectly I just used LV to send the script as text to the instrument over GPIB. Worked a treat.
