Ken Burns in iMovie on the iPhone

Good day everyone,
Would anyone know if when iMovie on the iPhone if you can disable the Ken Burns effect? I would like my pics not to move but stay exactly where the previous one was.
Thanks for your help!!!

You can't disable it, however if the start and end positions are the same, then effectively no Ken Burns is applied. Hope that makes sense!

When I go to create a new project in imovie using the iPhone 5, I am not able to see any of my video clips or photos that are saved on the device.

When you move or copy the compound clips with their events into an external drive all the events should be there. Not clear on why you want to move them into a single event. You can drag and drop from one event to another.
Why are you using compound clips? You can simply copy the project from each machine with used media onto the external drive and that should do it.

  • Trying to add a pause after Ken Burns effect to hold the photo

I am trying to set a pause to my still photos after using the Ken Burns effect.  So it starts zoomed in on an area of the photo and pulls out and then I want it to hold for a few seconds so you can see the full photo.   Any suggestions?  I can't find anything anywhere???

    1) copy the photo with the Ken Burns effect
    2) place the copy after the original photo
    3) edit the copy, reverse the order of the Ken Burns effect using the arrows next to the word "Start" so the end point is now the start point, change "Ken Burns" effect to "Crop", and change the duration of the copy
If you want the pause at the beginning
    - place the copy before the original photo
    - edit the copy by just changing the "Ken Burns" effect to a "Crop"  (i.e., crop using the start point),and change the duration of the copy
If you have a "pause, ken burns effect, pause" don't use a transition after the 1st pause and before the 2nd pause.
With a group picture, you can simulate a real Ken Burns effect with
transition, pause, zoom in, pause, [pan, pause] ... [pan, pause,] zoom out, pause, transition

  • IMovie on the iPhone

I have been trying to use iMovie on my iPhone 4, however many of my videos that I have on my iPhone (via iPhoto) are not available to be imported into to iMovie. I am wondering if this is based on a specific codec or the fact that these were not shot on my iPhone.
All the videos were encoded using Sorenson Squeeze 6.0 using various different codecs including Sorenson MPEG-4 Pro, Sorenson H.264, Main Concepts H.264. The bitrates and resolution are all within an acceptable range especially given the capabilities of the iPhone 4, I am working with a series of videos (about 40 of them) all encoded at 448x336 (4X3) with a bitrate of 360kbps. Yet when I go into iMovie to import a video, it does not show up in the list of videos. I cannot figure out for the life of me how to use any videos that were not recorded by my iphone, in iMovie on my iPhone.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it true that if the iPhone didnt record it that I cannot use it in iMovie? None of these videos have DRMs they are all videos I personally recorded using devices other than my iPhone. Any help that someone can offer would be wonderful! Thanks

  • Exporting still photos with Ken Burns from iMovie to Keynote

I am new to the Mac and have no experience of iMovie. I am putting together a slide lecture that uses photos and graphics to promote a coffee-table book on conservation issues. The presentation will use manual advance and will be shown to public audiences on large screens. The quality of the projected image is very important so I will be using a high quality Canon projector with a resolution of 1400x1050.
Some images are of landscapes and I want to use the Ken Burns effect that is available in iPhoto and iMovie but, for some unknown reason, not in Keynote. I posted this first with the Keynote Discussion Forum and was advised to move the photos from iPhoto to iMovie, apply the Ken Burns effect in iMovie, and then export to Keynote via Quicktime. My question is, if I do this, will my Ken Burns landscapes retain the same size and quality of projected image as the rest of my Keynote presentation? My impression is that using this process I may lose quality, but I hope I'm wrong. Please advise.

Some background: Importing photos with the Ken Burns checkbox ON causes iMovie to render a video clip from the photo. That's an entirely different process than importing the photo as a "still" image. Unfortunately, Ken Burns and several other rendering routines are vulnerable to factors that sometimes cause them to fail. The disk format can cause failure, third-party software, inadequate video cards and the like. The factors often have nothing to do with iMovie itself.
The same problems can occur when rendering other kinds of clips too, such as themes and special effects. (Ken Burn gets the bad rep because it's where the problems usually occur for users.)
Some of the items you listed in your Library/QuickTime folder are third-party products. There may be others too in the other folders mentioned in the link I posted earlier, so be sure to look in those too. And in iMovie plug-in folders.
Sometimes necessary items are missing that should exist. One I've seen mentioned here occasionally is the QuartzComposer.component, which should reside in your System/Library/QuickTime folder. If it's not there that might cause the problems you see.
Installing/reinstalling the QuickTime 7.1.6 might help. I've seen reports of problems going away after that update. Repeating the update won't hurt.
Have you tried creating a new user account and running iMovie as that user? If iMovie runs okay as that user that suggests a software conflict when you are the user. Unfortunately, if the software is installed in places where it applies to all users it will cause problems for the new user too.
I'd keep trying to find some software component causing trouble for QuickTime/iMovie. It's clear some third-party components have been installed; there might be others. Perhaps stuff related to AVI?

  • How to add audio to iMovie on the iphone?

The speak recorder on the iphone is ok to record audio. But how do I get those recordings into imovie on iphone? Its the latest imovie (2.0?) on iOS7 on iphone 5.
    Thanks for any help
    Erland

Thanks for looking into this. I am probably unclear here...
What I hope to do is to get audio recording fra the that speach recorder app that comes with iOS. The recordings can only be exported through mail, messages and dropped with Airdrop.
Hmm maybe with itunes in some way.
I would like to use speach recorder and then import that audio into imovie, not the audio effects that are with imovie.

  • 10.1 - transform or ken burns don't work the same

What happened here? I've done this hundreds of times. I import a still image from photoshop. I drag it to the timeline, and hit the crop button, then ken burns, and immediately the start and end green/red boxes, adjust, hit done, and that's it.
Now, when I drag the clip to the timeline, and hit, say Transform, nothing happens. The photoshop file I happen to be placing is about twice the size, so all I see is a giant portion of the still.  Same with Ken burns. I hit crop, and then Ken Burns, and nothing happens. The giant middle of the image just sits there.
Am I missing something? What happened? I did a google search on Ken Burns + 10.1, and aside from a new feature, I see nothing about the basic functionality having changed.
I'm completely stuck and can't edit anything without this.
    Help!

You need to select the clip and have the vertical white ponter over the clip for the red and green boxes to appear.
You can use the Scale slider in the Transform section of the video effects to reduce the size of the image to fit the window.

  • Ken Burns Effect  - select "outside" the image

I have some photos that are too tight and need to zoom out more. I am okay with having black areas.
Is there a way to select the crop square beyond the border of the images?

There is no way to do this within iMovie. You will need to use a photo editor such as photoshop to add the black space. You can do this with iPhoto, using an Automator action "Pad Photos".

  • How can I turn off the ken burns effect on iMovie? If I crop the picture it still persists!

I cannot turn off ken burns on iMovie for the life of me! Everyone is telling me to fit the photo or stop it, which I have done. However, when cropped the ken burns effect is still there in full force!!! What can I do to turn off this dreadful effect?

  • I have an older version of imovie.  After I change the photos using the Ken Burns effect and save them, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' to change the zoom, the picture appears black and I can't change the zoom?

I have a five year old version of imovie that generally works fine.  However, when I add a photo using the 'Ken Burns' effect then save the movie, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' the picture appears black and I cannot change the zoom.  Any suggestions?

Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support
Let us know how that works for you.

  • Ken Burns Effects Don't Work in iMovie HD (I've Tried Everything)

    Version:
    OS X 10.4.10
    iMovie 6
    *Hardware 1:*
PowerMac G4 Dual 500 Mhz, 1GB RAM, Internal 40GB HDD and Internal 320 GB HDD
    *Hardware 2:*
PowerBook G4 500 Mhz, 512MB RAM, Internal 20 GB HDD
    Problem:
This problem occurs on both of my G4 Macs. In iMovie HD, I imported a JPEG from iPhoto with Ken Burns Effects on. The still photo appeared properly in the Clip Viewer initially, but appeared as a black screen in the iMovie Monitor. Once the imported photo with the Ken Burns Effects completed rendering, the clip in the Clip Viewer turned white and appeared as a white screen in the iMovie Monitor. I have tried almost everything I read about in these forums in search of a resolution.
    *Resolutions that Failed:*
    1. The photo is definitely a .jpg
    2. Tried importing the actual .jpg file as well as importing from iPhoto.
    3. QuickTime and all other Software updates have been applied and are running on the most current release.
    4. Repaired disk permissions.
    5. Created, saved and manipulated the iMovie file in the standard Movie Folder on my main internal hard drive. (i.e. – I'm not saving to an external HDD)
    6. Created, saved and manipulated the iMovie file in the standard Movie Folder on my secondary internal hard drive. (i.e. – I'm not saving to an external HDD)
    7. Deleted the 'mac.imovie.plist' file and created a new one.
    8. Attempted to do apply the effects logged on as a different user.
    9. Saved file, restarted machine and reopened numerous times but the problem persists.
    10. Tried a lower resolution photo and the problem persists.
    11. Attempted to import all the photos I planned to use, added transitions to all of the clips and rendered completely. Saved the file, restarted the machine and reopened the file with no change to the blank clips.
    12. The iMovie trash emptying issue did nothing to help.
    *Additional Notes:*
    1. The problem is confined to the Ken Burns Effects in iMovie. I am able to work with true video clips without incident.
    2. Ken Burns Effects operate properly in iPhoto 6 using the slideshow functionality.
    3. I would use iPhoto, but it seems like it would be easier to line up specific sections of an audio track with certain Ken Burns Effects in iMovie. (i.e. – a crescendo at the 16 second mark of the audio track coincides with the end of a 'zoom' on a photo, transition from second 16-17 second mark, new photo at the 17 second mark and pan left to right from 17 second mark to the 25 second mark.) Point is that it lines up precisely with the markers on the audio track, which seems far easier to do in iMovie than iPhoto.
    4. Please help me, I'm going nuts troubleshooting this bug! I can't find any resolution that works.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hmmm. You seem to have tried, without success, most if not all of the methods of resolving a Ken Burns black screen issue.
Some thoughts that have occurred to me:
    1. Perhaps your G4 500mhz Mac is not fast enough. I think that the minimum spec for iLife '06 is 733mhz. Might have nothing to do with this problem, but I just mention it.
    2. Are the sizes of your images too large, as can happen with some of these new high def cameras? iMovie has trouble working with very large images.
    3. Do you have any 3rd pary plug-ins, particularly in Quick Time, that could be causing a conflict?
    4. Do you have enough disk space for the project to operate?
    5. Have you done a recent Quick Time update? Some users have reported a problem with that.
    6. From your post, it appears that you have continuously worked within the same iMovie file that exhibits the Ken Burns problem. If this is true, try creating a new iMovie project and experimenting with a few clips to see if the problem persists in the new project.
Ken Burns issues can be very frustrating. I think that you will need to keep trying things until something works. Wish I could be more help, but perhaps some of the tech experts on this forum will have some workable suggestions.
There is an application called Photo to Movie that reputedly has a far better Ken Burns type of effect. If you can't resolve your problem, you might try downloading that app. I believe that it offers a demo download.
    Good luck.

  • Imovie 10 modify ken burns

The new version of iMovie is driving me CRAZY. I had a project nearly completed before the upgrade, now the Ken Burns effect on every photo has been modified. Worst of all, when I try to modify them now, they seem to be "locked." When I click on the Ken Burns Effect for a photo, it highlights the Start and End frames, but I can't change them. Is there no way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

YES! This solved the problem with the fixed/locked ken burns settings.
Changing the OS X system language to ENGLISH makes it possible to edit ken burns settings.
Still, this is a bug and it needs a fix.

  • Can I turn off the Ken Burns effect from all stills at once?

I am using iMovie 09.  I am creating a slideshow.  I want to turn off the Ken Burns effect from all stills.  Is there a way to do this in one operation?
    Mary Lou

Yes. Select one still. Open the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool on the middle Toolbar. Set it to FIT (for letterboxing) or to CROP (for it to fill the screen, but cut off the top and bottom). This will turn off Ken Burns.
Now select the photo you just adjusted and EDIT/COPY (or Command-C).
Now click EDIT/SELECT ALL (or Command-A) to select all photos.
Finally, click EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS/CROP ADJUSTMENTS to apply to all photos.

  • Selecting photo then clicking "Fit" does NOT turn off the Ken Burns effect.

Trying to wean from iMovieHD.  I'm having trouble mastering what seems to be more limited Ken Burns effect functionality in iMovie11.   I don't seem to have the range, say, left-to-right, as I did in either iPhoto or in iMovie HD.
So, I figured for now I'd turn off the Ken Burns effect on all the stills in this project.  I've tried selecting one photo, getting into the Fit/Crop/KB effect viewer, then clicking Fit, then Done.  But the photo keeps the KB effect that had been applied to it.
I tried changing all photos in Preferences and that didn't change anything either.
Hopefully I'm just missing something?  Thanks for any help, everybody...

Nevermind.  Got it.  As I'd hoped, user error.
