Kensington 70W AC/DC adapter?

I just got a new 70W Kensington AC/DC adapter to use with my G4/1.67 15" Hi-Res.
It powers the computer okay and charges the battery, but I was surprised to find that when I was on battery power and the battery ran out, when I plugged the Kensington into the powerbook, I wasn't able to power up the PB: I hit the spacebar, but it didn't wake from sleep; I then hit the power button, which would normally wake it from Safe Sleep, but nothing happened. The PB just wouldn't power up.
I had to reconnect the original Apple AC adapter, and then it woke from Safe Sleep.
Anyone else ever seen this? Is it a problem with the Kensington adapter?
Does the PB need to recognize that an Apple adapter is connected, in order to wake from Safe Sleep?
Weird, yet good to know. If I had been out of town with only the Kensington adapter, I would've been in big trouble.
Also, if you're using the Kensington and you can't let the battery run all the way down to zero, and let the PB go to sleep, your batteries won't retain their capacity as long.

I don't think it's timing. It's not a one-time thing. I have now verified this problem 3 different times.
I have never had the slightest problem waking the PB from Safe Sleep using the Apple 65W adapter: it has worked flawlessly 100% of the time for 10 months now. I always let the PB go into Safe Sleep in order to fully drain the charge on the battery, which I believe also helps the batteries maintain their original capacity over time.
I have had the Kensington 70W adapter for 10 days now and I have tried to wake the PB from Safe Sleep on 3 different occasions, but it does not work. After the PB goes into Safe Sleep, I plug the Kensington into it and try to wake the PB first from Sleep (no go) and then from Safe Sleep (no go). I have to plug the Apple 65W adapter in and the PB wakes from Safe Sleep without a hitch.
I have contacted Kensginton but haven't heard from them yet. The 70W adapter seems to work fine the rest of the time.

Does anyone know if I can use a micro-usb bluetooth adapter on the Apple TV (2nd Gen) to pair bluetooth devices?
    Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-K33902US-Bluetooth-Micro-Adapter/dp/B000YA1XU2
Or is this unlikely to work?

no. the appletv is a device, not a host.

  • Using 3 monitors on the HP 700-327c

    greetings,
We need to use 3 monitors on our HP 700-327c with Win 7,64 bit OS.  What do i need to do to make this happen.
    Thanks in advance,
    LCF

    From the specs:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04291966&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
    you have an integrated graphic.
Have you already tried to use both slots you have?
If you don't have high requirements for monitor settings you can try one of these for a third monitor:
    http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/100-U2-UV19-TR.pdf
    http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Universal-Multi-Display-Adapter-Black/dp/B002F9NSMQ/ref=pd_cp_e_1
They will use your current graphics device.
Else you can search for an additional graphics card which supports 3 monitors and doesn't need more than a 300W psu.
The integrated graphic will be disabled then, so you need three ports!

  • Wanting to use multiple monitors on HP hpe210Y w-DVI-I and HDMI. Audio: 5.1 Surround

I have a HP Elite hpe210y with only two outputs of which are: 1) DVI-I and 2) HDMI. My  situation is that I have 2 new HP Monitors with VGA Cables. I have an adapter for DVI-I to VGA and also VGA to Dual VGA. I do NOT want the monitors to work as Duplicates however. I want the second monitor to be an extension. I am also interested in getting even 2 more monitors in teh near future for a total of 4.
Is there some way I can get two monitors to work off one DVI-I ?
Will I be able to upgrade to up to 4 monitors?
Is there a part I need?
Wanted to mention that my OS is Win7 Home Premium 64 bit. I use IE9, Chrome and Firefox
I would of never bought this from Best Buy if I had known in advance that there was just the one regular output. I see they have one called a Phoenix which I may look into.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

    >Is there some way I can get two monitors to work off one DVI-I ?
I've not yet seen a solution for that.
You can use a hdmi2vga adapter for the second port.
    >Will I be able to upgrade to up to 4 monitors?
    >Is there a part I need?
you can try one of these:
    http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/100-U2-UV19-TR.pdf
    http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Universal-Multi-Display-Adapter-Black/dp/B002F9NSMQ/ref=pd_cp_e_1
    http://aluratek.com/usb-2-0-high-resolution-vga-adapter
They will use your current graphics device.
If you are looking for a new solution - I've read about DisplayPort version 1.2 that can do 'daisy-chain connection' with multiple monitors. But this you have to 'google' yourself.

  • Charging my iPhone in a different country

I will be traveling to South Africa and will be taking my iphone and ipad with me. For what itʻs worth I will also be taking my MBP.
I have the adapter so I can plug my MBP into the wall to charge it up. I am assured that the computer is modulated for use in any country and using the adapter will not fry it to kingdom come.
    Here is my question:
I found this device: http://us.kensington.com/html/13926.html (Kensington Travel Plug Adapter). It will allow me to plug my USB devices into any wall outlet for charging.
While the packaging doesnʻt specifically say that itʻs good for use in South Africa, Kensington Tech Support says that if the prongs line up, itʻs usable. (I read somewhere that SA uses the same wiring as some European countries...I just canʻt remember which ones.)
What I am concerned about, however, is whether using the device will fry my iphone/ipad. Are these Apple devices modulated for use in other countries? The Kensington device is an adapter only, it will not convert nor modulate the power coming from the wall outlet.
Or am I just safer plugging both into my computer for recharging?

The supplied iphone charger is a world charger that will work anywhere with the proper adapters. Apple sells such here:

  • ThinkPad Bluetooth Laser Mouse won't reconnect

    Hello,
I have a ThinkPad R500 running Windows 7, and am using a ThinkPad Laser Bluetooth Mouse. I also have a Kensington Micro USB Bluetooth adapter.
Previously this combination worked great.  Mouse worked fine and would stay paired with laptop, even after putting the computer into sleep mode (or if the mouse turned off after a period of inactivity).
Within the last few days, however, I have found that the mouse will lose its Bluetooth connection to the laptop whenever the computer goes into sleep mode (or after a long period of inactivity).  The only way to fix this (that I have found) is to remove the mouse from the Bluetooth devices, and then re-add the device.
I have updated drivers all around.  I have also seen the often-recommended solution on other message boards that I should go into Device Manager and, under the Power Management tab for the appropriate Bluetooth radio, uncheck the checkbox for "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power."  However, I do not have a Power Management tab for my bluetooth radio.  (I am using the Generic Bluetooth Radio provided with Microsoft Windows.)
Any help on this is much appreciated!  I am willing to buy a new Bluetooth adapter if need be, although I don't see why that should be necessary -- as mentioned, the entire setup described here was working perfectly as recently as last week.
    Thank you!
    Craig

I have the same problem. The mice work fine mostly with host system regardless to operation system(XP/W7/Ubuntu), but the scroll doesn't work in vmware. I don't think it is related to virtual system because any other mouse work fine in the same virtual OS. I think Lenovo should to investigate it and change the behavior of scroll wheel because it seems to be different to other mouse. I like the feature that the scroll wheel is working in current window where the pointer is, but maybe the feature cause the problem, the scroll wheel is out of work in vmware.

  • Setting up 2 External Displays

    Hello.
I have 2 24 inch external displays both with DVi connections. I have an early MacBook Pro from August 2007. There's only one DVi output on the MacBook.
What do I need to allow me to use these external displays with the MacBook Pro. I would like the setup to be the MacBook Pro in the middle of the 2 monitors.
Is there a tutorial? What extra hardware will I need to buy?
    Is it even possible?

In order to add a 2nd ext. display you'll need something like this: http://nexus404.com/Blog/2008/06/04/kensington-usb-dual-monitor-adapter-dvi-usb- monitor-adapter-up-to-six-screens-on-offer-via-usb-connections/
I'm using that mentioned Kensington adapter myself - works just fine.

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard for Windows Vista

I recently bought an Apple Wireless Keyboard and a Kensington micro USB Bluetooth adapter for my Windows Vista laptop. The initial steps to configure the keyboard were straightforward and I did not run into any problems. Within a few hours after setting things up, I ran into the following problems:
    a) The Apple Wireless Keyboard would disconnect randomly, sometimes mid-typing.
    b) After functioning normally, a key (usually 'f') kept repeating.
The only way to solve both problems was to hold the power button on the side of the keyboard for a few seconds until the power light turned off. Then I had to hold down the power button again to turn it back on and it would automatically reconnect. The keyboard would work fine for a few minutes, only to have the same problems return later. The problems seemed to occur more frequently when I left the keyboard alone and did not use it for a few minutes.
    The Solution
I become quite frustrated and was on the verge of returning the keyboard. As a final effort to fix things, I removed the Bluetooth drivers and reinstalled newer drivers. Here's how I did this:
    1) Go to Start > Control Panel (Classic View) > Keyboard.
    2) In the keyboard menu, select the 'Hardware' tab and select 'HID Keyboard Device'.
    3) Click 'Properties' and then select 'Change Settings' and click 'Continue' at the security prompt.
    4) Select uninstall.
    5) Go back to the Control Panel and go to 'Programs and Features'. Locate the program you installed with your Bluetooth adapter. (Mine was Toshiba Bluetooth Stack. If your computer has built-in Bluetooth, you can probably skip this step.)
    6) Uninstall the Bluetooth program.
    7) Restart the computer.
Hopefully by this point, Windows will prompt you by saying that it has discovered new hardware and is installing the software for it. It should then display a Bluetooth icon in the notification area (bottom-right by clock). Right-click it and select add new device or view connected devices. Then simply run through the steps to connect your keyboard. Make sure you turn on the keyboard before you run through the setup.
After going through this procedure, I have not had any problems. The repeatings keys and disconnections have both subsided. Before playing around with the drivers, I suggest copying the drivers to a safe location or creating a Restore Point so you can always revert your changes.
    Hope everything works out!

    Hello,
I am having the exact problem you were having. Is it possible to apply Apple's new firmware update to the keyboard and have it function with the PC? I called the Applestore, and the sales rep told me that the keyboard did not save the firmware on the keyboard itself. Is this true?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Using bluetooth headset causes OSX to freeze regularly

I'm having problems using my Bluetooth Plantronics P590 headset. It causes OSX to become unstable. I've been using it for 2 days, and had about 4 crashes (OSX locking up) during that time. When I use the headset, lots of times my bluetooth Mighty Mouse becomes jittery (annoying but not more than that, and solvable by turning the mouse off and on). However, sometimes it just completely freezes my machine (the screen turns grey and a message appears in several languages saying I need to restart my computer by holding the power button). The last log sent to Apple looks like this:
    Tue May 20 09:09:06 2008

When using the headset in combination with Skype, there are outgoing audio troubles (see http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=137331). I do feel though that that is a Skype problem, because I can record audio fine using Audacity. I just thought I'd mention it here as it might be important.
So basically the problem seems to be that using the bluetooth headset compromises the stability of OSX. I am using two more bluetooth devices (Mighty Mouse + wireless Apple keyboard).
I am now using my USB headset again and things work as expected, lockups do not appear anymore so it really seems to be related to the bluetooth headset.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Same problem, I'm using a Kensington 33348 USB Bluetooth adapter and a Cardo S2 Headset. Have been using the Kensington for over 6 months with other devices now and then. Just paired the S2 headset today and have had two kernel panics when listening to music. Not Good. So I wonder if the problem is the Kensington, the Cardo, or OS X Bluetooth.

My PB adapter totally broke on me and I am living in Korea without applecare this is my cheapest option:

my question is if the 70w will work with my PB since my current adapter is 65w...

I haven't looked at the URL but, if the plug and voltage output are right, you'll be OK.

Camera connection kit for ipad 2. Can this kit be used with ipad air and if so what adapter(s) are required please

You can try the 30 pin to lightning adapter but I'm not sure if that'll work. So if you get it to experiment, make sure you can return it. Apple does sell a SD to lightning adapter for the newer devices. So that should be a sure bet. The main downside is that your 30 pin camera kit came with both USB and SD for 29 and now the USB adapter is 19 and the SD adapter 29, so more expensive.
You may want to look into third party adapters, but make sure you use a reputable manufacturer (ie not a cheap no-name off amazon) because iOS7 brought with it software that looks for a signed chip in the adapter. And a chip is 'signed' when a company gets apple's permission to make accessories. I would suggest sticking with companies like Belkin, Kensington and Targus. They seem to be of a better reputation when making things and would have a signed chip.

  • 3rd Party Power Adapter that works properly?

My original Apple power adapter has failed like many others do prematurely - the cord breaks down where it enters the block. I bought a 3rd party adapter from ebay (a Delta electronics one, in white and wearing official Apple markings) Although it is a 65w, when my 15" PB battery flattened, and went to sleep, the power adapter failed to start it up again until the battery had had chance to recharge some. So, this adapter is no good, and is going back to the seller. Does anyone know of a cheaper (Apple's own is ridiculously expensive at nearly £60) adapter that really does work with the PowerBook? By "work" I mean will it start up the machine from flat-battery-induced sleep.
Many thanks - if not, it looks like I'll have to pay for another Apple-Short-Life Charger!
    Cheers

I have used three different adaptors, other than Apple's. Unless you are lucky, I suspect you will get what you pay for. Try:
    http://www.psaparts.co.uk/ (1)
http://www.laptopshop.co.uk (2) I addition I have used Kensingtons fancy brick. Note they have adaptors for aircraft etc so make sure you get the right one.
I have just got and started using a 90W device from "(2)" I like having the spare power and that you can buy extra tips. For 90W and changeable tips (only one supplied as standard) the basic price of £45 plus VAT seems OK. They have smaller power devices.
The adaptor from "(1)" also has spare capacity and kept a Titanium (I know it needs less) alive for days. I have never had to start from a completely dead battery but the power is there with both.
The best supply I have is a Sagem powering my fax. It has been on for two years. I am reconciled to all these supplementary heating devices. My fridge does the same.

  • Which car adapter for PB 17 ?

I am looking for a car adapter for a Powerbook 1.5 17". One model that is readily available in my area is the Targus Car Air, a universal laptop model with 70W output. It does also work as a main power adapter, which would be good if the original fails on the move. But it is sold through the PC shops and there is no mention of older Apple plugs. Anyone knows, or has another model to suggest? Would 70W be okay with an added external USB powered drive? Thanks!

go to wal-mart and to the auto section. In the same aisle as the car stereos you will see some ipod accessories that are not in the electronics section. They will tell you on the package which one is for your ipod. You can probably go to walmart.com and look it up too.

  • Airplane Adapter for MacBook Pro?

Does anyone make an airplane power adapter for the Macbook yet? I have read elsewhere, because of the magsafe adapter, that none of them will fit? Anyone know the answer to this question?

I wrote to iGo and Kensington. Neither currently make one although they "are looking into it". No ETA was given. I couldn't find one from anyone else. Posters on other threads suggest a power converter. There is a potential issue with these because of the MBP power requirements. I guess that would also be an issue for the adapters. Anyway I haven't seen any posts where someone had actually used a power converter with a MBP. I'd rather spend money on an extra battery than take a chance on a power converter not working.
I have 24 hrs of flying for a vacation in June, I hope there is a solution before I leave.

  • MacBookPro power adapter for UK and Europe

I am going to be spending a semester in the UK and was wondering where I could find a adapter for my power cable.

Apple sells a World Travel Adapter Kit for many countries, and a less expensive Kensington adapter kit. But you could also use any cheap UK plug adapter you find. You should make sure you have a grounded UK adapter as well as ungrounded.
You only need a plug adapter. You don't need a transformer, because the MacBook Pro power supply is compatible from 100V (USA) all the way to 240V (Europe). It should say "100-240V" in the tiny print on your power supply.
