Kensington Expert Mouse problem

I've tried the old MouseWorks v3r1 and it doesn't detect my Expert Mouse.
I uninstalled in and prefs it leaves behind and installed Trackball works 1.
It won't let me program and key with a modifier. It seems to default to having at least 2 "click" keys.
Has anyone else this problem and or a workaround?

I also have had some problem using Mouseworks 3.0 and Kensington Mice (various models) under Mac OS 10.4.6 and 10.6.7.  In a recent exchange (earlier this week) of support message with Kensington their rep indicated, and I quote:
"We are sorry to inform you that the feature to zoom with the scroll wheel is disabled on Mac OS. We regret to inform you that the feature is not available in MouseWorks as well. Be advised, we would like to inform you that the MouseWorks is not compatible with your operation system."
I wrote back that, in fact, it does work on my Mac, except for the Universal Access Zoom with Scroll Wheel feature. I also asked if the plan on upgrading Mouseworks.  This was their second answer:
Thank you for contacting Kensington Technical Support.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. We regret to inform you that Kensington has no plans to update MouseWorks for Mac OS 10.6 and no other drivers are compatible to program the scroll wheel to zoom.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to you."
My solution - Junk Kensington and go buy a Microsoft (for Mac). or Logitech. They both work fine on all our Macs (we have four of them) and are fully programmable with those other drivers (as long as you buy the right models)

  • Installing a Kensington Expert Mouse Pro

I have installed a Kensington Expert Mouse Pro, MouseWorks 2.9 in the USB 2.0 port. By power on the system starts ( in verbose mode) "IOUSBF Family has trouble in enumatering the plugged USB device". When the sysem has started, unplugging and replugging the USB adapter, the mouse is recognized. Also rebooting (no power off), the mouse remains recognized. But power off and restarting: the mouse could only be recognized as described above. It is to remark, that I habe Bluetooth (keyboard) installed.
Kensington could not help me, it seems to be a problem of the OS X (the same problem was seen under 10.4.3 and MouseWorks 2.89
Has anyone a suggestion to help?

I have had the same problem both with the wireless Kensington Expert Mouse Pro and wired Turbo Mouse Pro. I communicated with Kensington for over a year with this problem. They sent me a new wired Turbo Mouse Pro, offered to reimburse me for the cost and finally tech support said they would escalate the problem and get back to me. After many months and going to management they offered to send me the wireless Expert Mouse. I wrote and said don't waste your time and money if it will not work. They said that it would and sent it. The problem remains. Apple Tech Support after reviewing the problem told me that it's a Kensington problem that they need to address. Kensington treated me well in sending product and offering reimbursement which I fully appreciated. But it seems that the Tech representatives were not aware of the problem and caused me a lot of wasted time with their "fixes". Since I use a wireless Apple keyboard My fix is...I have plugged the Expert Mouse into the keyboard slot of my previous wired keyboard (which is plugged in the USB port of my iMac) and placed it out of sight.

  • Kensington Expert Mouse Pro (64213) with FCP 5

I was looking into buying the Kensington Expert Mouse Pro to use with Final Cut Pro 5. Does anyone know if you are able to program the 6 buttons on the top of the mouse as hotkeys for different tools within FCP? Thanks for your help!

    Curtis,
I've been using the Expert Mouse for a very long time now. All 4 buttons, the click wheel button and the 6 up top are all customizable.
I have the 6 top button programed to do functions in FCP that require multiple keystrokes, like audio video transition, clear in and out, etc.
The mouse uses the Kensington software that is avalable in the OS System Prefs once installed.

For those, such as myself, who love the Kensington Expert Mouse (with 4 tabs about the trackball), Kensington

  • Kensington Bluetooth Mouse Problem With 10.4.3

After updating to 10.4.3, which updated bluetooth from 1.6 to 1.66, Kensington Mouseworks 2.8 no longer works with any of my Kensington bluetooth mice. A Kensington USB mouse works fine.
Neither Apple nor Kensington was able to resolve this. Any ideas how to fix this until Kensington updates their drivers ?

    Original message was to Kensington:
I can set up my device - discoverable - pairing and so on, but cannot get to the settings - fast, slow, scrolling, chording, etc. As a matter of fact when I select mouseworks under my system prefrences I get a window saying that there are no Kensington pointing devices found, but yet I'm using the device. The tracking speed of the cursor is uncontrollable at times. I am running OSX 10.4.3. Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I render this mouse to have a mind of it's own and not too useful to me.
    Their reply:
Thank you for contacting Kensington Technical Support.
As per the latest update from the concerned department, it has been observed that there are few compatibility issues between Mouseworks software and Bluetooth mouse on Mac OS X 10.4.3. Unfortunately, you are facing the same issue.
However, it has been proved that the issue is not with Kensington software and Apple is working towards releasing a patch for this.
Any solutions to date would be of great help.

  • Kensington expert mouse Trackball

I have used these things, back when they were called Turbo Mouse, for years. I have one on this Macbook Pro, and one on my old G5.
Several years ago Kensington really dumbed down the driver software for the Trackball. I was told by their suppor that they were going to revamp it so that it worked as before.
I just left their website and saw that the Trackball Works software is no longer available for Macintosh, and in the reviews I saw a comment that said that it no longer worked except for the newest Macs.
So does that mean that Apple has developed something to run this 4 button, highly (in the old days) programmable device?
    Thank you
    DN

What OSX are we speaking of?
One way to tell is to plug it into that Mac, open Mouse prefs & see how many buttons show & choices.
USB Overdrive might be an option also if they still make it.

  • How can I get software to operate a Kensington Expert Mouse K64325

I recently bought the trackball from Amazon , and it was delivered without the software . Attempts to find a download from Kensington are unsuccessful and a link provided by Kensington customer service is at accoblobstorageus which Safari cannot access . Any suggestions ?

Try downloading TrackballWorks 1.1 from MacUpdate:
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/36130/kensington-trackballworks
That version should work with Mac OS X 10.5.8.

  • Kensington Expert Mouse (Trackball) Button Configuration

I'm trying to set up my trackball mouse. Most of the buttons etc. work out of the box, but I need to make a couple of tweaks.
I've spent ages trawling the net and the arch wiki  and I simply can't get my head around this. Especially with the new xorg changes and most of the docs now being out of date.
The mouse has 4 buttons + a scroll wheel.  I've managed to map them using xev:
    Bottom Left Button: 1
    Top Left Button: 2
    Bottom Right Button: 3
    Top Right Button: 8
    Scroll up: 4
    Scroll down: 5
At the moment 1 is a left click and 3 is a right click.  Button 8 seems to be "back" and button 2 seems to be middle click. The scroll wheel works as expected.
What I want is for button 2 to be a double left click and button 8 to be a right click.  Can anyone help me figure this out?

I've figured out how to do the double click thing :-) Here it is for anyone else interested:
    1) Run xev and move your mouse pointer into the white square.  Now click the button you wish to map to a double click.
    2) Make a mental note of which button number xev reveals that mouse button to be - in my case, the top left button is button 8
    3) install xbindkeys and xautomation - the latter can be found in AUR
    4) run:
    xbindkeys --defaults > /home/your-user-name/.xbindkeysrc
replacing "your-user-name" with (obviously) your user name
    5) add the following at the bottom, replacing Y withthe number you made a note of in step 2
    "/usr/bin/xte 'mouseclick 1' 'mouseclick 1' &"
    b:Y + Release
    and save
    6) run
    xbindkeys -n -v
to check if there are any errors in your config file
    7) If that has all worked then you need to configure xbindkeys to run at X startup - the method will vary depending on you DE/WM - I use fluxbox and so simply added
    xbindkeys &
    to my ~/.fluxbox/startup file
    Hope that helps!

  • Anyone using Kensington Expert Mouse or unorthodox methods?

    Shown here:
    http://www.connectreviews.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/kensington_expertmou se.jpg
I use left and right bottom as normal left and right on any other mouse but for top left i set to Razor Blade and i can then make cut with lower left and top right selects the footage between cut whereas both top together deletes the selected footage. Seems pretty fast, took awhile to get used to trackball but now works out fine.
Also, i set my arrow keys (comma and period) up to go single frame because they are right above space bar (PLAY).
Anyone else have tips, keyboard shortcuts or secrets to spill?

I use a Contour Shuttle Pro V2 and have set up buttons to cut and delete, in addition to other useful functions.
Its well to remember though you should be fluent in the standard key commands of FCP before you create a proprietary method if you are required to edit on someone else's kit from time to time.
Otherwise it's entirely up to you how you edit . . whatever works for you.

  • Use Kensington trackball mouse to control motors

    Hello experts,
I am writing a Labview program using a Kensington expert trackball mouse to control two motors. Here is the mouse that I am using :
    http://www.kensington.com/kensington/us/us/p/1444/K64325/expert-mouse%C2%AE.aspx
I would like to use the motion of the trackball to rotate the first motor: when I move the trackball left (or right), the motor will rotate left (or right); and the motion of the scroll ring (left/right) to control the second motor (left/ right). Besides, I would like to use the four click buttons as different ON/OFF buttons.
I do not want to use the trackball as a mouse, it means that I do not want the cursor of my computer moves when I move the trackball/rotate the scrolling ring!
So is there any solution that make only Labview "see" the trackball mouse motion, so that I can control my motors, without affecting the cursor function/position  of the computer?
    Thank you for your help.

I haven't done something like this myself, but like Bob said, once you plug the mouse in, Windows automatically recognizes it as a mouse. You might want to read these on how you can prevent that from happening and get the data yourself. If I understand correctly, you will need to parse and interpet all the raw data yourself:

  • Strange Mousing Problems

My iBook is normally used in the following manner: a LaCie External HD, Kensington Mouse & Apple Keyboard connected through my Kensington Notebook Extension Dock with Stand. Well yesterday I removed my peripherals and the dock stand so I could use my iBook in the other room.
Later when I placed my iBook back into the stand the mouse stopped double clicking. I can't double click on anything and this includes single words to edit them.
And suddenly my DVD/CD drive wont reboot with DiskWarrior in it. I can see DiskWarrior on my desk top but I can't get the darn computer to start with DiskWarrior.
So now I can't do any disk repair. Although I do have Onyx so I used it to optimize and rebuild my HD.
I tried resetting the PMU and that didn't work. I also replaced my mouse with a different one and that didn't change things. My keyboard appears to be working fine.
I have recently done a complete wipe of my HD, August 12, 2006, and a clean install of Tiger and then the installed my other software. The DVD/CD drive worked just fine during my reinstall and afterwards when I defragged and then optimized my HD.

This is the report I received after running DiskWarrior:
    Disk: "The HD"
Repaired the Total File Count of the Volume Information
Repaired the Available Disk Space of the Volume Information
    Location: "Desktop"
    File: "1f5_data"

    File: "cf#hYlvB"
Detected Overlapping Contents, this file will be relocated AFTER replacing the directory
    Location: "The HD/Users/RKROSSI/Library/Preferences/"
    Explanations:
Overlapping Contents: Overlapping files are files that occupy portions of the disk already occupied by another file. These files will be relocated after replacing the directory. You must inspect these files to determine which of them had been overwritten and damaged. Be aware that opening damaged files can cause the computer to crash.
Volume Information: Every disk has information that describes its contents. Repairs prevent problems such as wasted disk space and applications not functioning properly.
Would these overlapping problems be caused by blessing a HD?
After running DiskWarrior the mousing problems still exist.
I tried taking the mouse and keyboard off the Kensington Dock Stand and plugging it directly into the computer but the problem still exists. I can right click without problems though.
I wonder if this could be something with the trackpad preferences? I did change them when I removed the devices to use the iBook. Is there some way to discard those preferences?

  • MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR, Mouse problem & Video off problem solved!!!

I find the following information that I collected very interesting at the very least...
    Here goes...
The video off problem that I was having was directly linked to the mouse. Here, let me explain the video off problem. In the BIOS Have the Standby mode set to S3. The problem occurred when I started windows, then went into standby, then started back up, then restarted the computer, the monitor would act as if it were in sleep mode, or rather there was no signal being sent to the monitor. Well the odd way I fixed that is by plugging in a standard 2 button PS/2 mouse. Also this fixed the issue with the mouse sometimes not working in windows.
    Here is how I tested.
    Logitech MX700 Cordless Optical Mouse, PS/2 & USB= failed.
Logitech iFeel Optical Mouse, USB= failed.
Microsoft Cordless Ball Mouse, PS/2= failed.
Standard Artec (Cheapy brand) Ball Mouse (With no wheel), PS/2= All issues fixed, and passed.
When I said failed I do not mean they didn't work, I mean they sometimes didn't work and also caused the Video off problem after restarting the computer.
Obviously it isn't the ports (PS/2 or USB) that are the problem, it is more like the mouse itself, and the amount of buttons in particular. As you can see above the only mouse that works correctly is the one that only has 2 buttons, the rest has 3 or more buttons along with a Wheel. The MX700 has 8 buttons + wheel, WOW!
Anyways I figure out it was the mouse, and not the memory.
Obviously MSI needs to make a patch for this mouse problem.
I'm still having a hard time believing that the mouse caused the video not to work, but it is true! I spend well over 5 hours testing this crap. Every time with the mice with more then 3 buttons it messed up, and every time with the 2 button old fashion mouse it worked flawlessly!
MSI, get to work on a new BIOS to fix this mess!!!  :]

LOL, that isn't what I'm talking about.
There seems to be a problem with my motherboard accepting mice with more then 2 buttons. It works the first time, but if you restart the computer, the video goes off. If you have both installed, it still messed up.

  • Mouse Problems Since 10.6.8 Update

Since I applied the OS X 10.6.8 update to my MacBook, I have started to have very annoying mouse problems.  Sometimes the mouse gets stuck on a window or icon as if I am dragging it.  More often, the left mouse button stops doing anything and the right mouse button starts acting like the left mouse button.  At the same time, the mouse is often incapable of clicking on a highlighted button.  Safari often seems to be open when this happens.
I have tried two different wireless mice and, most recently, a basic corded mouse.  I have also tried both USB ports with the corded mouse.
Has anyone else seen this and figured out how to fix the problem?
