Kensington Pocket Presenter Remote Works in Hub, not in iBook- Why?

Very peculiar behavior from this device. When I plug it directly into the USB port on my 14" G4 iBook it doesn't work (red light stays on, no response). I discovered quite by accident that it will work just fine if I plug it into a 4-port mini-USB hub. I sometimes, but not always, get the "Can't recognize your Keyboard" dialog box when I plug in the Kensington receiver, but if I just ignore it and close it, everything works. I know it isn't a power problem - it works even when I disconnect the hub's external power supply an use it as a bus-powered hub.
Since it works this way, it is only a minor inconvenience to bring the hub with me when I use it, but I am curious if anyone else has had a similar problem or has any insights into it.

Perhaps I was not clear above. The hub can be externally powered, but the Pocket Presenter works in it whether it is externally powered or not.
In any case, to add to the confusion, about an hour ago I did the classic "One Experiment Too Many". Earlier I had tried restarting the Power Book and repairing the disk permissions to try to solve the problem. It didn't. This time, however, I shut down the computer, plugged the Pocket Presenter receiver into one of the iBook's USB ports, and restarted. It booted up just fine and the Pocket Presenter worked normally. In fact, it now seems to have "healed" itself. I can now plug it into the iBook's USB port directly, even after shutting down and restarting without the receiver in place, without problems. Maybe the restart with the PP receiver in place "reset" the PP receiver somehow? This doesn't seem very plausible, but who knows? Perhaps I'll try burning incense and sacrificing a chicken next time and see if that works, although I have been told that this is effective only on Windows machines.

  • Flash Remoting Works Locally But Not On The Server

    Hello,
    I have a flash file that connects to an asp.net page. The
    aspx page queries a databse and returns a set of records to flash.
    Flash reads in those records and processes those records. Locally,
    this works fine. However, on the server, nothing happends. I spoke
    with tech support at hosting company and they tell me everything is
    installed for Flash Remoting.
    Here is the code thats on the server:
    import mx.remoting.NetServices;
    import mx.remoting.NetDebug;
    mx.remoting.debug.NetDebug.initialize();
    //CONSTRUCTOR
    var inited:Boolean = false;
    if(!inited){
    inited = true;
    NetServices.setDefaultGatewayUrl("
    http://63.134.251.243/gateway.aspx");
    var gatewayConn
    bject = NetServices.createGatewayConnection();
    gatewayConn.setDebugID( "Gateway Connection" );
    var SQLQueryToolService
    bject = gatewayConn.getService("matthewlemke", this
    function SQLQueryToolAction(){
    SQLQueryToolService.test("SELECT * FROM flashImages");
    function test_Result(result){
    trace(result);
    _root.abc.text = result.toString();
    SQLQueryToolAction();
    Here is the code locally:
    import mx.remoting.NetServices;
    import mx.remoting.NetDebug;
    mx.remoting.debug.NetDebug.initialize();
    //CONSTRUCTOR
    var inited:Boolean = false;

    SQLQueryToolService.test("SELECT * FROM flashImages");
    function test_Result(result){

    SQLQueryToolAction();
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vic

    I am having the exact same problem. My remoting application
    works fine on my laptop as long
    as the url for the gateway reads
    http://localhost/remotingData/gateway.aspx,
    but if I change
    it to the name of my machine and attempt to run the swf I
    keep getting a NetConnection.call.badversion error in the
    netconnection debugger. If I attempt to connect through IE it just
    sits with no reply.
    Is there some kind of permission thing going on here?

  • Wireless presentation remote not working on G4 10.4

    I've successfully moved my PPT presentation to keynote, but my remote doesn't work. Its light stays on yellow/red when put into the USB port. A query said to go to security and change the infared ability, but I don't have any mention of this on my security portion. I could really use the help as I fly to Jacksonville in two days...and don't want to be glued to my spacebar. Thanks.

    Luis -
    Thank you for responding; I just this minute returned from my local Best Buy; the Mac guru there assisted me, and I found that I had to plug in the remote first, then turn on the iBook. It then recognized it as a keyboard, and we configured it from there. It's now working! Thank you again.

  • IPhone 4+Remote+Component Cable+TV=Not Working

    Hello all, I am writing to get some help getting my accessories to work together for my iPhone 4. I use an Apple Component AV Cable to hook my iPhone4 up to the front of my older TV (red/yellow/white) to view my videos on my TV. This works but I wanted to get the apple remote so I could control the volume and play from the couch. When I bought it, the page was different, but it said it was compatible with the iPhone 4, so I got it.
    Well, it didn't work. Not with just my previous set up and with nothing I have tried since. When I plugged the cables in and tried to use the remote, it didn't operate the iphone, though the video was playing on the tv as usual. I assume the iPhone doesn't have an infrared receiver? So then, I got my hub's Dock, which has an infrared on the front, and on the back, an s-video female connection, the flat narrow port for the usual apple cables (which my Apple Compnent set plugs into as well), and a Line Out. I tried inserting the Apple Component AV Cable, which has the usual apple connector and the red/yellow/white cables. The remote works with the iphone now, but the video won't play on the TV, even though it says it is. It's like the signal isn't going through the dock to the connector. Do I need a different dock, a different cable? Something else?
    All I have open to connect to the TV is the Component red/yellow/white.
    Any ideas? Thank you so much!
    Gina

    Whoops, I always get the type of connection messed up. Sorry. I still have the right connections in any case. I have red/yellow/white on the tv and red/yellow/white apple cable. The set up works just fine. I get color video and audio and it looks great. My problems started when I tried getting the remote to work with it.
    Like I said, if I use the dock in the setup, the remote works on the iphone but the tv does not play the video. If I take out the dock, the tv plays the video, but the remote does not work the iphone.
    Does anyone have any ideas, please?
    Thanks,
    Gina

  • Does the Apple Remote work with Keynote '08 to make presentations with?

    The subject pretty much asks the question, but I'll repeat it here again:
    Does the Apple Remote work with Keynote '08 to make presentations with?

    Although it does not provide the same abilities as a "professional" clicker it does do the job. For example your computer still has to be in front of you, or you need to be pointing at it. Steve Jobs does not use an Apple remote as his clicker, but as a easy solution, it does the job.

  • I just bought a 13" macbook pro retina display. I need to run films and presentations remotely. Does RemoteHD work on a machine without an IR sensor, or does anybody know what would work?

    I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro and I have just bought a 13" macbook pro retina display. I need to run films and presentations remotely., i.e not sitting at the computer.
    Does RemoteHD work on a machine without a built in IR sensor, or does anybody know what would work?

    I can't vouch for this as I've never tried one, but I think this does what you're after.

  • CHECKED "Disable Remote Control Infrared Received" not working

    Hi,
    I have an iMac and an Apple TV in the same room. I want the remote for the AppleTV to stop controlling the iMac.
    Yes, I have already checked the box in System Preferences/Security & Privacy/General/Advanced.
    Yes I have clicked OK and closed the lock to prevent further changes.
    But the remote STILL CONTROLS the iMac. Its annoying.
    On another discussion forum, a user mentioned a file called "/Library/Preferences/com.apple.driver.AppleIRController.plist" which my computer in fact does not have. Does anyone know, with Mountain Lion 10.8.4, should I still have this file?
    Any other ideas what might be causing this?
    The remote works and is paired with the AppleTV. But its still changing the iMac.
    Any help would be much appreciated!
    Many thanks,
    ponderosa_74

    Sorry to ask, but did you Unpair the Remote when you disabled the IR receiver...?

  • USB Mouse on Hub not working after upgrade to Snow Leopard

    Recently upgraded Macbook Pro from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Had a mouse and external HD attached to Mac via a USB Hub. After upgrade, HD is recognized and works fine (use it with Time Machine). Mouse will not work through hub, but is recognized by the system. Mouse is a simple wired USB device and functions fine (works when connected directly to the Mac).
    Any idea what might be wrong or what needs to be done to allow the mouse to work again?

    Yes it is a powered hub.

  • FPN SP12: Remote Delta Linking does not work

    We have two portals, both running NW70 SP12.  The Producer portal is a BI portal, the consumer is a plain EP.  SSO has been implemented, and the consumer has been registered on the producer.  Remote Role Assignment works, and content from remote roles is visible on the consumer.  The producer portal object is called BI_Portal, and the consumer portal object is called EP_Portal.
    While RRA is working, Remote Delta Linking is not.
    I can browse the producer PCD from the consumer and copy the selected iView to the consumer PCD.  I can then take the copied iView and place it in a role.  Once I grant the consumer role to a user, the item then shows up in the navigation structure.  However, when clicking on the iView, I get the following error in the Producer log file:
    com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntimeException: Unexpected error - Unable to get IView: fpn:EP_Portal/pcd:portal_content/ca.company.fld_comp/ca.company.fld_projects/ca.company.fld_fed_con/ca.company.rl_loc_fed_con/fld_my_work/fld_loc_fed_con/ca.company.iv_sd_org:Uql7CRb%2FAHAgS69lwbBcoA%3D%3D:1:
    Now, this error appears on the producer portal - why is the path fpn:EP_Portal in there?  I think what's happening is that the wrong fpn object is being placed in the iView object, so when the request hits the producer portal, the portal runtime can't find the object since the object fpn:EP_Portal doesn't exist.Or, perhaps I don't understand what the fpn: locator is supposed to mean.
    If you use the PCD Inspector, the iView attribute FpnLocator is what contains the fpn:EP_Portal/ string.  I've tried modifying it to point at the local portal, but that doesn't work either.
    Anyone else at this service pack level get RDL working?

    I'm a bit confused:
    EP_Portal is the name I entered for the consumer portal when I registered with the producer.  So, when I go the producer portal, EP_Portal is listed as one of the consumers.  Therefore, EP_Portal is the name of the consumer, as seen on the producer.
    And, where do I specify the P4 port?  There is not property for the consumer PCD entry - the only port number I can specify is the external network port, which is in this case 52000 (for the BI Portal).
    The only other port number I can set is in the URL of the Consumer.  The web dispatcher is running on the consumer, so the url does not specify a port number.
    Are you saying that this URL should point at the P4 port on the consumer?

  • 865 - Remote works in HiFi but not w/ Media Center III. Girder??

    First of all, kudos to all of you for supporting each other in getting the MEGA to operate as intended. I have a couple questions maybe you can help me with:
    Does anyone know of a quick fix for re-associating the bundled remote with Media Center III? Mine worked initially, but when I loaded the drivers for the remote bundled with my MSI Personal Cinema FX-5200 card it stopped operating in Media Center III. The remote works in HiFi mode without a hitch, but not at all in PC mode.
    Also, can the Girder software be used to program other remotes controls, like the one that came with my Personal Cinema card (NVidia remote, USB interface)? It is a much better remote than the MSI remote and would be a great replacement. I looked in the plug-ins on the girder website an could not find any related to the Personal Cinema product.
    thanks for your help!!

    Akumaisme,
    I don't know about an independent karaoke function, but MSI has included a separate program for the radio part on the drivers disc: MSI Radio. Installing this program enables you to use the same functions of the radio in PC-mode as you can in Hifi-mode, without the need to install MCIII.
    As far as Girder is concerned, maybe this will explain things: Girder is used to "catch" the commands (button strokes) from your remote  receiver and (if neccessary) divert them to other programs. For this you need two things: a working pair of remote and receiver, and a Girder plugin that is written for the specific type of receiver.
    So should you choose to be able to use the MSI remote (which I believe is not the case) with other programs than MCIII, you need the Girder plugin written by Nathan  (see Sticky at the top of this forum).
    I think you want to use the second option: a different (third party) remote.  First of all, you most likely won't be able to use this remote with the built-in MEGA receiver.  You'll need the receiver of your Personal Cinema card. Then you'll have to take a look at the Girder site / forum whether there is a plugin available for this Personal Cinema card, good chance there is. After installation, you then only need to configure Girder with the proper plugin AND need to learn it to divert the button strokes of your Personal Cinema remote to the MCIII application.
    I hope you'll find this information useful.
    Greetz,
    JaDi.

  • The LOG file \work\dev_jcontrol is not present

    The LOG file \work\dev_jcontrol is not present; even thou I have restarted the server:
    stopsap
    startsap <j2ee_instanse>
    Any idea?

    Hi,
    cluster ID is just combination of below parameters:
    In our case, my source system (ABC) was refreshed from another system (XYZ) recently
    so while installing target system ( DEF), I changed the source system details from ABC to XYZ in below file and retried the
    SAPinst screen. System copy has got completed successfully.
    Open the file <installation directory>/jmt/cluster_id_switch.properties and edit the line
    src.ci.sid=
    src.ci.instance.number=
    src.ci.instance.name=
    src.ci.host=
    If in your case source system is not refreshed recently; You may try with functional host name or OS host name etc. details for above parameters.
    If this does not work check details of "SAP Note 966752 - Java system copy problems with the Java
    Migration Toolkit" which says almost the same thing but I could not get that as the statements related to
    box number are bit confusing and contradictory.
    Cheers !!!

  • Apple remote won't work with Keynote + "not enough RAM" error

    Of course it works with Keynote 6.0 ('13), but not Keynote 5.3. It also works with iTunes and volume during Keynot '13 but will not advance the slide/animation.
    Anyone else have the same problem?
    Also, ever since Mavericks update, sometimes my Keynotes will not play due to an error that says I have insufficient RAM. Even if I close all other apps. Sometimes when I quit the app and restart it, it will work?
    Anyone else? Fixes?

    Solution: Deleted Keynote '13 and the remote works with '09 again.
    Hmmm...
    We'll see if the "not enough RAM" error pops up anymore.

  • [AS3] EventDispatcher works locally but not remotely

    Hi,
    I am very new to Action Script and have the following
    problem. I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
    I have a small video player app. I have added the FLVPlayback
    component to the stage and set some properties via action script
    (AS 3)
    I then instantiate a class to go and retrieve some XML,
    register an eventListener to wait for the XML to be loaded and once
    the event has fired, load the FLV file (just hard coded at the
    moment) into the FLVPlayback object.
    This works when testing in the Flash IDE but not when I
    publish the movie to my webserver. I have tried commenting out the
    player.load() and just adding a textfield and again this works
    locally but not when I publish to the webserver. I have included
    some code snippets below.
    Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?
    Any pointers much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Martin

    Hi,
    I found the problem if anyone has the same issue. I was
    passing some FlashVars in incorrectly using the
    AC_RunActiveContent.js that comes with Flash. I have switched to
    swfobject and all is well.
    thanks

  • How can you run keynote presentations remotely on new MacBookPro with retina display?

    I have the new mac book pro with retina display, very nice. I present keynote slide presentations using the Apple remote, the small white one. However, this doesn't work on the new mac book pro. No IR port, I am told.
    OK, no IR port, but surely there is another way to run a slide presentation remotely. I mean that is how presentations are conducted. So, who knows of plan B which would allow me to give presentations separated from my computer?
    Thanks

    Install Windows either with BootCamp or virtualization software
