Kensington trackball v1.1.2 - 4th button - Expert Mouse

has anyone found a way to get the 4th button working with Trackball Works?
Seems I can always get both Right buttons, but only one of the Left buttons unless I use both as Click.  Kind of a waste.

  • 2 New iMac 1.83's  - 4th button on mouse acting bizzare on both computers!

I just brought home and set up 2 brand new 17" iMacs, 1.83 intel based. I have had to turn off the 4th button on both of these computers because the 4th button (side "pinch" buttons on the mouse) randomly act as if someone is pressing them - even when I just move the cursor across the screen or sometimes when the mouse is setting still. Both computers do this although one is worse than the other.
    Any others experiencing this?
Is it the mouse? A system problem?
    Any help would be appreciated

It's almost certainly not a problem with the Macs. I've had the same problem with both of my wired Mighty Mouses on both my PowerBook and my Intel iMac. It's the mouse, not the computer. Interestingly, my wireless Mighty Mouse seems to have much better side buttons which don't trigger randomly.

  • Using Automator to change Kensington Trackball Settings

    Hi All,
I have several shared company computers, all have the Expert Kensington Trackball Mouse. The computer in question is an Intel Mac Pro running Leopard. I have 2 sets of users that need to use the rig and both sets of users prefer different settings to the Kensington Mouse (I only need 2 separate profiles, not 4). Kensington does not provide software to quickly switch user profiles. The simplest solution is to create different users for the computer, but that is not an option here. We've been trying to use Automator to script the changes quickly between mouse profiles, but while using the 'Watch Me Do' (none of us are particularly experienced with Automator) feature, we are able to set the bottom two mouse buttons, but the top 2 buttons result in the error message "This operation cannot be performed". The Kensington settings are in System Preferences, and have several drop-down menus and text boxes. There must be a better way to do this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I have a similar problem with the ultra sensitive trackpad with the "Clicking, Dragging, Drag lock" checked in Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse. I'm always turning them on and off depending on which application I am using.
My problem is that when I record a series of actions in Automator, the resulting action list has no text behind the action for the mouse click for the Clicking checkbox. Its as though it doesn't even know that its there. All of the other actions show up.
Got any ideas on how to fill that void or another workflow that would do the same thing ? I think that running the workflow again would turn it back on as the actions are identical.

  • Will Kensington Trackball work with Leopard?

At a local users group meeting one of the members said that he could not get his Kensington mice and trackballs to work under OS 10.5. I have the Expert Mouse (trackball w/ turbo ring). Does anyone have experience with these devices working or not working under Leopard? Thank you!

    Yes.
I've got a Kensington Turbo Mouse Pro (trackball with 4 large buttons around the ball and 6 small programable buttons above the ball near the cable) that was working fine in Tiger.
I upgraded to Leopard and it wasn't working right, so I downloaded a new copy of their driver (I think it was dated 2006). It wasn't special for Leopard, but I thought I'd try it.
Not only did it work, but my button preferences survived and it's working as well as it did with Tiger. All of my buttons are programmed for keystrokes and they work well in what ever program I'm running.

  • Use Kensington trackball mouse to control motors

    Hello experts,
I am writing a Labview program using a Kensington expert trackball mouse to control two motors. Here is the mouse that I am using :
    http://www.kensington.com/kensington/us/us/p/1444/K64325/expert-mouse%C2%AE.aspx
I would like to use the motion of the trackball to rotate the first motor: when I move the trackball left (or right), the motor will rotate left (or right); and the motion of the scroll ring (left/right) to control the second motor (left/ right). Besides, I would like to use the four click buttons as different ON/OFF buttons.
I do not want to use the trackball as a mouse, it means that I do not want the cursor of my computer moves when I move the trackball/rotate the scrolling ring!
So is there any solution that make only Labview "see" the trackball mouse motion, so that I can control my motors, without affecting the cursor function/position  of the computer?
    Thank you for your help.

I haven't done something like this myself, but like Bob said, once you plug the mouse in, Windows automatically recognizes it as a mouse. You might want to read these on how you can prevent that from happening and get the data yourself. If I understand correctly, you will need to parse and interpet all the raw data yourself:

  • Kensington Expert Mouse Pro (64213) with FCP 5

I was looking into buying the Kensington Expert Mouse Pro to use with Final Cut Pro 5. Does anyone know if you are able to program the 6 buttons on the top of the mouse as hotkeys for different tools within FCP? Thanks for your help!

    Curtis,
I've been using the Expert Mouse for a very long time now. All 4 buttons, the click wheel button and the 6 up top are all customizable.
I have the 6 top button programed to do functions in FCP that require multiple keystrokes, like audio video transition, clear in and out, etc.
The mouse uses the Kensington software that is avalable in the OS System Prefs once installed.

  • Please suggest substitute for kensington trackball

Kensington has apparently abandoned their expert mouse trackball (4 programmable
keys and a ring surrounding a trackball) - it still works for Lion but you can't set
functions such as "print" and "save" so it is basically useless. Contacting them
is impossible - I've gotten 3 different answers.
What would you suggest that would have this functionality?

Before you give up on your Kensington trackball, have you tried their Trackball Works 1.1 driver?
    http://www.kensington.com/kensington/us/us/s/1550/softwaredrivers.aspx
It works with Lion and gives you many of those types of commands; at least it does with the SlimBlade. I don't have the Expert Mouse any more to try.
    Regards.

  • Kensington expert mouse for Lion

For those, such as myself, who love the Kensington Expert Mouse (with 4 tabs about the trackball), Kensington
told me today an update will be available in 2 weeks to make it compatible with Lion.

  • Alternatives to Kensington Trackball?

I've been a hardcore Kensington Trackball user for many years, most recently using the Expert Mouse.
Unfortunately, the Kensington driver software is getting less and less robust on Apple.
I've tried alternative drivers -- SteerMouse does not allow chording and USB Overdrive does not recognize the Kensington device.
Has anyone found a trackball that is comparable to the Kensington?
    Thanks!

Follow sberman's Apple Store link and check out the Logitech TrackMan Marble. I've been using them for years and turned friends on to them; now they wonder how they did without them. While the Logitech comes with software, none is necessary to access quite a few features, and I'd just as soon have as few third party drivers running as possible.

  • Kensington Expert Mouse problem

I've tried the old MouseWorks v3r1 and it doesn't detect my Expert Mouse.
I uninstalled in and prefs it leaves behind and installed Trackball works 1.
It won't let me program and key with a modifier. It seems to default to having at least 2 "click" keys.
Has anyone else this problem and or a workaround?

I also have had some problem using Mouseworks 3.0 and Kensington Mice (various models) under Mac OS 10.4.6 and 10.6.7.  In a recent exchange (earlier this week) of support message with Kensington their rep indicated, and I quote:
"We are sorry to inform you that the feature to zoom with the scroll wheel is disabled on Mac OS. We regret to inform you that the feature is not available in MouseWorks as well. Be advised, we would like to inform you that the MouseWorks is not compatible with your operation system."
I wrote back that, in fact, it does work on my Mac, except for the Universal Access Zoom with Scroll Wheel feature. I also asked if the plan on upgrading Mouseworks.  This was their second answer:
Thank you for contacting Kensington Technical Support.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. We regret to inform you that Kensington has no plans to update MouseWorks for Mac OS 10.6 and no other drivers are compatible to program the scroll wheel to zoom.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to you."
My solution - Junk Kensington and go buy a Microsoft (for Mac). or Logitech. They both work fine on all our Macs (we have four of them) and are fully programmable with those other drivers (as long as you buy the right models)

I really need to be able to set the "4th button" to be the equivalent of the "enter" ("return") bar.

I guess I could live with setting any button in that fashion.

  • Installing a Kensington Expert Mouse Pro

I have installed a Kensington Expert Mouse Pro, MouseWorks 2.9 in the USB 2.0 port. By power on the system starts ( in verbose mode) "IOUSBF Family has trouble in enumatering the plugged USB device". When the sysem has started, unplugging and replugging the USB adapter, the mouse is recognized. Also rebooting (no power off), the mouse remains recognized. But power off and restarting: the mouse could only be recognized as described above. It is to remark, that I habe Bluetooth (keyboard) installed.
Kensington could not help me, it seems to be a problem of the OS X (the same problem was seen under 10.4.3 and MouseWorks 2.89
Has anyone a suggestion to help?

I have had the same problem both with the wireless Kensington Expert Mouse Pro and wired Turbo Mouse Pro. I communicated with Kensington for over a year with this problem. They sent me a new wired Turbo Mouse Pro, offered to reimburse me for the cost and finally tech support said they would escalate the problem and get back to me. After many months and going to management they offered to send me the wireless Expert Mouse. I wrote and said don't waste your time and money if it will not work. They said that it would and sent it. The problem remains. Apple Tech Support after reviewing the problem told me that it's a Kensington problem that they need to address. Kensington treated me well in sending product and offering reimbursement which I fully appreciated. But it seems that the Tech representatives were not aware of the problem and caused me a lot of wasted time with their "fixes". Since I use a wireless Apple keyboard My fix is...I have plugged the Expert Mouse into the keyboard slot of my previous wired keyboard (which is plugged in the USB port of my iMac) and placed it out of sight.
