Kenton MIDI to CV converter

Dear Logic users,
I have recently bought a Kenton MIDI to CV converter in the hope of syncing up my Roland 101 to Logic.
I have no idea how to get this process started (as there is no information in the Kenton manual about DAW interfaces), and would appreciate anyones help.
Can anyone please explain:
1) What settings I need to make on the Kenton( ie. clock divide ration etc)
2) What settings I need to make in Logic (ie. Sync Mode Internal, Destination all ports etc)
3) Do I create a loop of notes on an Instrument track in Logicto send to the 101? Do I need to set up a new track in Logic onto which I record the sound of the 101?
Any assistance would be great!
Kind Regards,
Mr Rock

the Kenton manual makes no reference to DAW interfaces.
Why would it?
MIDI to CV convertors do one thing - receive MIDI data (notes, controllers etc) from their MIDI IN, and output corresponding analog control voltages at their various outputs, for controlling analog devices.
There is no specific functionality reserved for DAWS at all.
You connent a spare MIDI out from your computer to the Kenton, and in Logic treat it the same as any other MIDI instrument to play back MIDI data to it. Perhaps you don't know how to use the environment in Logic to setup a MIDI instrument, if you don't have any other MIDI hardware?
You connect up the various analog outputs of the Kenton to your synth in the way described in the manual (at least CV (=pitch) and Trigger/Gate (note on/off, and possibly others if your synth/device supports other things like filter cutoff control etc)
Now, when you send a MIDI note to the Kenton, the SH101 should play it. Regardless of whether than MIDI note comes from a Logic sequence, a MIDI keyboard, or a MIDI-retrofitted African Nose Flute...

  • MIDI to Mp3 converter?

I can not find an MIDI to MP3 converter that works for the Mac OS X! I have googled a million different things, and none of them work. I tried ilovemp3 and it keeps saying page not found every time I try to download it. Please tell me a FREE program I could use! Thanks!

I realize this post in a few months old, but for future reference you can convert a MIDI to Mp3 (or AAC) using the method below.
    1. Add the midi files to iTunes.
    2. Set the importing preferences to MP3 and configure bit rate etc.
    3. Select all of the midi files and choose "Convert to MP3" from the Advanced menu. (or right client and the option is there).

  • I need a midi to mp3 converter...

where can i find a free one for mac OSX leopard (10.5.1) ?

You could be right and you can give it a try but it does say this on the Audacity site:
*FAQ - Why can’t I play MIDI files?*
Sorry, Audacity cannot play, edit, or convert MIDI files. It can only display them visually (for comparison with recorded sounds). We might add MIDI editing to a future version of Audacity, but for now Audacity is focused on sampled audio (like WAV files).

  • I can't Convert midi files into any other format

A few months ago, I was able to convert midi files into mp3 when one day, I updated iTunes using software update. Ever since the updates I had for my Mac it still hasn't work.
It has this error that won't allow me to convert. I talked to my friend wrldwzrd89 who is one of my friends and he said that it is because Apple had a piece of data missing allowing midis to be converted to mp3, or any other format.
Is this true or do you know the solution?

I can't tell you the exact reason why it doesn't work, but there is an article about this problem and a solution if you have QuickTime Pro:
iTunes: MIDI files cannot be converted in iTunes 6.0.3 and 6.0.4
Not the last sentence in the article. That usually means they're working on a fix.
No guarantee that it will be fixed in the next version however. We'll have to wait and see.
    Hope this helps.

  • Macbook no longer recognizes my midi keyboard

Hello folks. I'm having this problem where my macbook no longer recognizes my midi keyboard (M-Audio Radium 61.) I've had it working fine in the past through this midi to usb converter, and now the usb converter still lights up and shows data flowing when I have it plugged in, but for some reason the computer just doesn't seem to see it. The macbook also doesn't see this aggregate device I had working the other day too. But it sees other aggregate devices that are made up of the same outboard audio interfaces I have. Sunday was the first time I had my whole setup working with the keyboard running into Reason, out to Ardour via Jackpilot and out through my audio interface via the aggregate device (which is actually just made up of the inputs and outputs of my M-Audio FastTrack Pro because for some reason the computer sees them as separate devices... different point of contention...) Anyway, so now today was the first time I tried to set it all up the same way again since Sunday and I can't get them working. Any thoughts?

  • Can't get MIDI output running

    Hi there,
I was trying to run Guitar Pro 5 through wine. When I couldn't  manage to get sound output, I realized that I don't have any MIDI output at all (i.e. the problem is not wine-specific).
So I checked on http://www.midi-howto.com/ and tried ot follow the tutorial there. I probably should have the necessary alsa packages - but acutally there is no 'alsa-drivers' on the Arch-repositoriers and I could not compile the latest drivers from the alsa website. But as wav-sound is working fine, I assume that I have the drivers I need.
I made all entries at the /etc/modules.conf that the alsa website proposed for my soundcard (Intel OnBoard chipset using intel8x0m). Then I tried to modprobe the following modules by hand:
    snd-seq
    snd-seq-midi
    snd-seq-midi-event
This creates the device files /dev/sound/sequencer[1,2] and the corresponding symlinks /dev/sequencer[1,2] but when a programm tries to use them or when i try to 'cat' them I always just get
    /dev/sound/sequencer: No such device
Does anybody have an idea where the probleme originates and how I might solve it?

if the onboard soundchip is not able to play midi (most onboard sound hardware can't play midi) you have to use a midi-to-wav converter like Timidity++
    edit:
I see you are from Germany, so have a look at the german wiki

  • Itunes 10.7 not playing MIDI files

ITunes 10.7 is not playing midi files (.mid).  I often play MIDI files and convert them to MP3 files using iTunes. Has Apple stopped supporting playing and converting MIDI files in iTunes?
When I try to open a MIDI file in Quicktime 10.2, it also does not play MIDI files. I do get a message that Quicktime 7 is required to play midi files.
I sure hope this is changed in future updates of  iTiunes and Quicktime.
    Tom R.

I don't think this is the complete picture...  I have tried importing midi files into iTunes 10.7 on three different computers, and it worked on one, not the other two.  The differentiating factor? Seems to be the operating system:  it worked on the one with Snow Leopard but not on the ones with Mountain Lion.  I don't have a computer with Lion to test on, unfortunately.  This might be an actual bug, or temporary omission, from the build for Mountain Lion.  Worth filing a bug report, anyway - since it's free and the more people report it the higher priority we might hope it gets?  http://bugreport.apple.com/

  • No signal from a Roland SPD-8 drum midi controller

    Hello!
I've just purchased a Roland SPD-8 drum MIDI controller. It's quite old, so I've had to get the MIDI to USB converter to connect it, but my computer is picking it up.
No matter what I try, I can't get a signal from it in Logic Pro X. I have a USB MIDI keyboard which works perfectly after being plugged in, but this is one's impossible! I'm lost. What are the correct settings for this? What have I missed??

Spotlight doesn's search Library folders, maybe that's why you don't find anything. Take a look at these two folders and remove anything that you don't need (i.e. remove anything that you don't know - in a basic setup, there should be nothing in there):

    HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

  • Hi Hat MIDI issues - (EZ)

    Hey,
I am using Logic 8 and:
I recently bought a Roland TD12 kit and i also have EZ drummer installed, I bought an Edirol UM-2EX MIDI to USB converter, everything works fine but i have 1 or 2 little issues,
    1) the hi hats seem to stay the same half open sound. Even when i press on the hi hat pedal to close the hats, they sound the same
    2) my floor tom rim has turned itself strangely into a muted crash
Ive tried resetting the drum kit and looking on the module itself and i think it must be logic that doesnt like the hi hat, something to do with the CC??? i have no idea..
any tips or advice would make my day,
    thank you
    Stephan

Is this using the EZD standard kit? In the piano roll, have you compared what's coming in from your TD12 with the MIDI layout of whatever kit you're using? Your H/H in the Rock kit, for example, start at C3 (#s 60-65) and others at #21-26
Have you tried dragging in some stock loops with H/H variations? Do the hats appear correctly then? If so, you might have to check your Roland pad assignments.
I'm guessing that this isn't a Logic issue, but a TD12 > Edirol > EZD > Logic mapping issue, but you might get more useful help here:
    http://www.toontrack.com/forum/tt.aspx?forumid=32
as I know that there are EZD and Superior users using TD12 and TD20 set ups who can help more.

  • Bouncing MIDI and Audio together to MP3, etc...

I searched all over and come here as a last resort...
I have a composition with one MIDI track and two audio tracks. I like the way it sounds. I "bounce" everything to MP3 (or any format) but the MIDI does not come with it. I read in one answer here that I need to SOLO the track and BOUNCE it. That produced a file that does not play sound (a flat line) when I click on it.
Another problem in the chain is that the file I bounce in, lets say MP3 or AAIF, etc... is grayed-out when I try to import it back into the song (following the advice of bounce midi and import back in audio form). Should the MP3 format be open to importing in as an audio track?
This seems like the most fundamental thing to do - create a song from a combination of sources (audio, MIDI, etc...) that you can share with people.
How do I get the MIDI track to BOUNCE along with it's audio counterparts, into an MP3, etc... ?
Thank you very much, in advance, for any help.
    Jim

    Thanks, Rob.
Not to belabor your generosity in giving your time to these forums, but, in the interest of solving my perhaps narrow and idiosyncratic requirements - would it be possible/practical to export the MIDI track(s), convert them to audio with the a third-party product and then re-import the audio (MP3, WAV, etc...) to an audio track?
Sorry to be obtuse here. Thanks, again.

  • Spending hours trying to turn on an Arpeggio?

    Ok seriously. What gives here?
I have been trying for a few hours to get the arpeggiators in Logic's environment window to work and am about to gouge my eyes out with a usb dongle. The Logic manual entry on using the arpeggio is a joke. It only says to click arpeggiator->new and tells what the parameters do. That's it! Hahaha
My goals are very simple in concept.
    1. Have a separate arpeggiator for each of my 5 synthesizers.
    2. Set a key command to toggle on and off the arpeggio for whichever midi track is selected in the arrange window.
    3. Have the notes that the arpeggios produce be recorded as midi events in real time down in the good ol' piano roll.
If I need to change parameters, I'll just go into the environment window and do it there. No big deal.
Please take a look at the screenshot in the link below and help me get from where I am so far to where I need to be. Or if what I have is all wrong, please be so kind as to let me know.
    A bit about my setup...
Two of my synths have built-in midi and are connected to port 1 and port 3 on my AMT8. The other three are connected to a Kenton midi-to-cv/gate converter. The Kenton converter assigns midi channels to the cv/gate outputs, and is connected to port 2 on the AMT8.
    http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8842/logicarpeggiatorenviron.png
Even if you can't help me, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read this.

At the risk of proposing something too simple, what I usually suggest is to put the arpeggiator in the *clicks and ports layer* and attach it to a cable switcher. That way, all you have to do is click on the cable switcher to toggle between arpeggiator and non-arpeggiator modes, and you don't have to futz with making an arpeggiator for every synth:
(Here's the stupid simple way--without the switcher--just to be totally clear)
Open the environment, choose the "click and ports" layer, select "new" and then, arpeggiator. Next, the cable that normally goes from "*Input notes*" into "*input view*" --drag that to the arpeggiator, then drag a cable from the arp to the "input view". Now, when you hit the play or record button, you can just hold down keys on your keyboard and the arpeggiator will do its thing and the arpeggiated notes will be recorded.
To have the switcher option, you would put a switcher *New > Fader > Specials > Cable Switcher* in between the *Input Notes* and the Arpeggiator, then drag a new cable from one of the other switch positions straight to the Input View (bypassing the Arp). Clicking the switcher will toggle between the arp and the bypass.
Since you're using external synths, you can use the "external instrument" option on your software instrument track and the midi from the arpeggiator will trigger your external gear as well as be recorded.

  • How to use Alesis synthesizer with GarageBand

I have a Alesis QS6.1 64 voice expandable synthesizer. I have purchase a MIDI to USB converter cable and attached the synthesizer to my Power Mac G5 system that is running Mac OS X 10.5.5.
The Audio MIDI Setup program on the Macintosh indicates that it successfully identifies the MIDI device.
I want to be able to use the synthesizer to record in GarageBand. However, when I open GarageBand v2.0.2 and play the synthesizer sound comes out of the synthesizer speaker and nothing happens on the computer. There is no indication that GarageBand is responding at all to the synthesizer.
What is needed so that the synthesizer keyboard will work with GarageBand?
