Kenwood Car Stereo iPod Interface

I have a Kenwood Car Stereo head unit and their iPod interface (KDC4531W and KCA IP500 respectively) which work really well.
Tonight I had to hard reset the iPod (via Menu and Play) to get the system to recognise the iPod following stopping and starting the car. The head unit displayed E-60 as the error code. I'm sure this isn't a deep sleep problem, unless the timer is set at less than an hour...
Following the reset it all worked OK...
Anyone else seen this? Anyone know what caused it?
(I've just downloaded iTunes 6 and am using iPod Software 3.1 in the iPod)
Thanks
Rob

Thanks Paul - at least I know its not me...
I'm going to try reformatting & syncing my iPod to see if that works.
I assume the IP500 will work with the new ipods - it certainly works with our Mini and 4G one. Suggest you email Kenwood support, they're really helpful!

  • TS3581 CAN YOU CONNECT A SHUFFLE (gen4) TO A KENWOOD CAR STEREO USING THE SHUFFLE USB CABLE ?

    HELLO TO ALL
ABIGMAC1 HERE! GOOD DAY TO ALL
JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD ANSWER THIS
CAN YOU CONNECT A SHUFFLE (gen4) TO A KENWOOD CAR STEREO USING THE SHUFFLE USB CABLE ?
I CAN USE AN AUX  3.5 TO 3.5 BUT NO WAY TO READ THE LIBRARY. PLEASE HELP ME!
    THANK-YOU

Check the documentation for the car audio system for device compatibility.  A shuffle may not be compatible.
If the car audio system is able to use a regular USB flash drive connected to the USB port, you should just get an 8GB USB flash drive for $5-10, load it with your "car songs" and leave it connected to the car audio system, instead of constantly connecting and disconnecting an iPod.
If the car audio system has an aux. audio input mini-stereo jack, you can get something like this
    http://www.amazon.com/Monster-iCable-Player-Auxiliary-Input/dp/B002AR5XIK
and connect your shuffle's headphones jack to the car audio system.  You can then use your shuffle to play through the car audio system.

Anyone from apple want to chime in? Anyone out there who has tried this? I emailed Kenwood but m guess is that they will not know.

  • IPhone 6 with iOs 8 and Kenwood car stereo

My new iPhone 6 (using iOs 8) will not work with my Kenwood car stereo correctly.  It says the bluetooth is connected and tries to place a call but the calls are not connecting to the stereo.  Is anyone else having this trouble and know how to fix it?
I tried forgetting the device (the stereo) and re-pairing, which caused the phone to randomly try to connect to nothing through the stereo.
    Any ideas?

Does your stereo have a USB port, and if so, have you tried to connect via USB?
I'm having issues even with the USB on my Kenwood.  Check out this post:  iPhone 6 won't play with Kenwood stereo USB port. Help !!

  • Kenwood Car stereo lost bluetooth connection

I have a kenwood car stereo and it never consistantly connects to my blue tooth phone.  I will get HF Disconect and then it will never conect again.  I have tried to delete my phone and re pair it but that doesn't work.  I am not sure how to get my phone and the stereo to connect once it seems to have lost the pairing.

Please reference your manual for instructions on pairing your phone with the HU...

  • Kenwood car stereo won't recognize ipod classic

Purchased my first Ipod, (ipod classic). Works great on its own. Connects to Kenwood KDC MP532U car stereo through USB port. However, stereo states "no music". Can this be fixed, or did I just waste my $$ on Ipod?

Search for Kenwood on this forum, there are a number of suggested fixes.
First of all, you should be able to get a firmware update for your stereo from the Kenwood website. Check your model on the Kenwood website.
Also, make sure you upgrade to 1.1.1 - this appears to solve a number of problems in connecting to non-Apple hardware.
    I hope that helps.

  • Ipod as N/A Device for Kenwood Car Stereo

Hello everyboy, first poster here .
In September I bought my first Ipod: a classic Ipod 80 gb. I've never have a problem listening to music and so on and I was really happy with it.
Some days ago I bought a new Kenwood's car stereo with USB port. When I plug my Ipod to the car stereo it does not acknowledge it and the display says "N/A device". The icon in the Ipod seems in charge but the stereo do not see the music for the Ipod.
At first I thought that it was because of the car stereo but it's not true. I tried with the different ipods of my friends and there were no problem at all.
Itunes and Firmware are upgraded to the latest version.
My question is: what should I do? Just buy a new Ipod and sell my old one on Ebay :D?

I want to add some information: the model of my car stereo is a Kenwood KDC-W5041UA and it has the "Made for Ipod" logo, so it should not have compatibility issue based on Ipod model.
I've tried all the routine procedures (reinstall, reboot and so on) before I've written here but they do not work.

  • Panasonic Car Stereo - iPod problem

I've been using my video iPod with my Panasonic car stereo via the CA-DC300U cable. (The receiver has a terrible iPod interface, but that's another point.) Until recently, it's worked perfectly. Now, for no obvious reason, the stereo won't always recognize the iPod (sometimes fixable if I unplug the cable and plug it back in) and it has stopped charging the iPod. It won't recognize the iPod at all if the battery is drained. The iPod works great with my Macbook, so I don't think it's the iPod. But this problem seems to have started about the time of my most recent software update. Anybody have any thoughts or similar problems?

Hello. I have the same problem for two weeks.
My player of DVD for the car does not recognize my Ipod even if reset both.
That I can do in the matter?
The DVD accepts other Ipods so the problem is come from that.

  • Will 3G contacts sync with Kenwood Car Stereo?

I recently purchased a Kenwood DNX7140 car stereo for my vehicle. I am trying to sync my iPhone contacts/address book into the phone book on the stereo. The Kenwood directions are very vague and direct me to the cellphone manual. I have a iPhone 3G v3.1.3. Does anyone know if it is possible to sync my contacts via Bluetooth, and if so how? Also, the number keypad on the stereo to manually enter a phone number is grayed out and not accessible, I can't figure out what I'm missing! Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

  • Car stereo - iPod hookup help

I just bought a new car and I'm wanting to put a new stereo in it. I want to make sure I get the right one for me. I want to be able to hook up my iPod to the stereo. But there's so many different choices like: 1.) aux outlet 2.) direct hook up (where you put the iPod directly into a iPod slot on the stereo) 3.) USB port...And I'm sure there are many others. Could someone help and really explain in detail all the different types of iPod hook ups for car stereos? And which do you recommend? Thank You!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Here are the differences:
Aux - not digital sound, doesn't charge iPod, can't control iPod on the stereo.
USB - not only can use iPod, but other USB storage devices (thumb drive, portable hard drives). Usually gives you full control of the player on the unit and can charge the unit. Some units have a USB jack in the front of the unit.
iPod direct hook up - similar to USB but only for iPod. Only found from the back of any unit that needs to be run out from somewhere else.
Best thing to do with the units that do USB is take your iPod with you and plug them into the units that have front USB jacks and see the controls.
Keep in mind, this around the time that new models start to come out, so you may want to wait for a month or so to see the new units that will be available. A lot of the new units that will be coming out will be less expensive for USB and/or iPod controls.
    Hope this helps.

  • Kenwood KCA-iP500 ipod interface and 120Gb,160Gb iPod

    Hello!
Who managed to solve a problem with connection iPod classic (120Gb or 160Gb) to Kenwood KCA IP500 for full work and IPOD charging?
Who can explain me in detail?
I read at this forum that people have some problems but they didn't find the solution of these problems.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/6567734#6567734
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1323641?start=15&tstart=0
    Now I am using Kenwood W8534 + KCA IP500 + iPod Video 5.5g 80Gb.
    This works very well.
But I want to buy 120Gb or 160Gb Ipod classic.
    PS.
I can't replace firmware in HU Kenwood W8534 because it haven't USB.
    Thanks!

I'm glad to see these issues are still getting airtime in these forums; less impressed to see that Apple still don't seem to have nailed this one down 100%.
For what it's worth the performance I'm seeing with my 1.1.2 Classic and the iP500 is more or less consistent, and useable, but frustrating. The (very) occasional random Eject problem I can deal with, but the very frequent refusal to charge is still annoying in the extreme. Sometimes the charging icon appears, but most times it doesn't.
For short journeys to and from work I don't even worry about this (20-30 minutes on the battery isn't the end of the world) but for longer journeys I have to remember to check whether the iPod is charging every time I stop and re-start the car's engine. I've taken to removing and re-inserting the dock connector several times with the ignition on until the lightning bolt logo appears, which works but probably isn't doing the physical connectors much good.
I like Ian's theory that the problems are to do with the handshake and/or logo download during initial connection. Because the Classic doesn't make use of the low-resolution monochrome Kenwood logo I'd forgotten the download even took place. The fact that a quick removal/reinsertion of the connector can sometimes goose the thing into charging may back this theory up; perhaps if the iPod isn't given enough time to flush its memory it doens't bother trying to re-negotiate the connection but just 'sees' the power connection straight away?
All guesswork of course, but with zero feedback from Apple, guesswork is all we have to go on.
I've never let my battery run down completely (and the iPod is never left in the car overnight) so I've yet to witness the complete refusal to connect that Ian describes, but it sounds frustrating in the extreme.
Let's hope 1.1.3 can put to rest the last of these issues.

  • My iPhone 5 stopped playing on my Kenwood car stereo after an update?

I have an older truck that I purchased from an individual who had upgraded the stereo to a Kenwood.
I was able to hook up my phone with a USB cord - my previous 3GS, and my current 5 and play my music through the receiver.
During one of the updates - Maybe to 7.0 - I lost the ability to maniplulate the music via the stereo control - the controls on the radio.  Now, it just says "READING" and never works at all.
I've tried a network reset, to no effect - and I must say, the iPhone 5 is pretty danged finicky when hooking up the USB cord in general.  I bought a couple of NON-Apple cords from ATT, and I have to plug and unplug it a few times to get the connection to take.  I have the original USB cord that came with the phone, and IT takes some plug-and-unplug tries to get it to connect sometimes.
Any bug fixes from the Apple wizards?

Start by ensuring there is no lint or fluff in the lightning socket (solves most problems of this description )
If squeeky clean then restore as new and start again ,multiple updates on updates can have this effect

  • Palm, please fix phone use through car stereos!

I'd been loving using the pre as a hands free device when taking my calls hooked up to the car sound system out of the headphone jack. 1.3.5 broke this, and I was hoping 1.4 would re-engauge it. No dice.
Palm, please-- many of us use this feature (check out precentral and everythingpre). It's also a matter of safety-- in many states (here in California as you well know) it's illegal to use the phone without an earpiece. As many of us use the phone for tunes in the car, fumbling to put on an earpiece and disconnect the audio cord when a call comes in is more dangerous than just pressing a button on an already-connected phone.
We know it wasn't the best quality, with some bounceback to the caller, but it sure was a nice feature and if you're going up against iPhones, my wife's iPhone can still do this just fine.
    Please bring it back.

kiltedtim: that is not good news...
I have a Kenwood car stereo that I plug my iphone 4s into via USB. Stereo interface was working great for 9 months. After updating to 6.1.1 it is has become wonky. Main problem is I cannot access playlists through stereo anymore. Rather, I can select them but the stereo then indicates "No Music."  So I have to select playlists on the iphone to play from them. I can still select all music or specific artists/albums through stereo interface. Also had some difficulty finding way through podcasts using the stereo interface.

  • Since IOS7 update, my car stereo will not communicate with my Iphone 4

Ok, I have had Kenwood car stereos with bluetooth connection since they came out with it and I have never had a problem.  Now I am so mad, I am ready to throw my phone out the window.  I can plug into usb or stream music bluetooth and it plays just like it always has.  It even lists the name of the song and artist while the song plays.  My problem is that since the update, I can no longer skip songs or dial by voice.  I called Kenwood and they say that I am not alone.  Their phones have been ringing constantly with disgruntled Iphone users.  Do I need to buy a new phone or can Apple fix the problem?  As I see it, this is dangerous because you literally have to pick up your phone, swipe the screen once to unlock, then swipe again to go to music playing, then pick the song you want to listen to which now shows up as like 20 tiny thumbnails (android copy?).  How am I supposed to drive safely when I have to do this?  Before I could just put Itunes on shuffle and tap the next button on my remote to skip songs without ever taking my eyes off the road.  Also, before IOS7 I could hit the voicecall button and dial by saying the name of the person I wanted to call.  Now I have to unlock the phone and go through the whole dangerous process of finding the contact and dialing.  Is there a fix in the works Apple?  Please advise.  Thanks

If your phone supports Siri (a 4 doesn't), you _should_ be able to  hold down the home button until she is ready then say call XXX. Of course, that is only a stopgap. I have no idea why Apple has to break things to advance their OS. I'm not happy about many of the stunts they pull these days. The only other suggestion I have is to delete the pair between devices and pair them again. There's a slight chance it may work. Otherwise, one of the companies is going to have to release an update to fix it. Maybe kenwoodusa.com already has. Have you checked?

  • Music volume gets low when iPod connected to an iPod interface?

    hi,
i have a 4th generation ipod, when i connect the ipod to the ipod interface in my car the volume gets very low.....
i have tried connecting my ipod in others cars with ipod interface, its the same issue with the others system also....
but it works good when connected with aux.
please help me find a solution....
    thank you

This is normal - cant adjust the volume from the iPod if we connect it via dock (the bottom of the iPod). If you would like to adjust the volume with the wheel of the iPod, then you should plug your iPod via its earphone jack - of course, different cable i.e. minijack to RCA audio cable
