Kerberos / GSSAPI authentication not working in Mail.app

I am using Kerberos with a Debian server on which is running the MIT KDC, Cyrus imapd, and sendmail. I have been using Kerberos authentication with Mail.app in this environment for some time, under Tiger. I just upgraded to Leopard, and it no longer works. The problem is simple: the Mail.app IMAP conversation goes like this:

Mail.app simply sends an empty GSSAPI message. This problem does not appear to be in the Kerberos libraries or endemic to Apple's apps in general, since Kerberos authentication still works in both SSH and WebDAV. This appears to be a Mail.app bug.

Have you found any work around? I'm having exactly the same problem.
As you say, kerberos in general seems okay -- not only does GSSAPI work fine for other programs, it even works correctly for ThunderBird running under 10.5. Meanwhile Mail.app doesn't even try to fetch service tickets, nor does it use them if something else already has.
I've tried everything I can think of -- using the real A/PTR hostname instead of the CNAME, adding a user with a principal name that matches my username, hard-coding kerberos settings into the config file rather than relying on DNS -- but nothing makes Mail.app even try to use GSSAPI for IMAP or SMTP.

It doesn't add the email and name in the Address Book (now called Contact).

I've got the same issue in the console. I didn't notice the keyboard shortcut not working but that's happening to me as well.
I've gone gone through and repaired the disk and disk permissions. Still no luck.
Hopefully someone has a fix.

Outgoing Mail not working with Mail.app in 10.5.7

I am helping my mom set up her email accounts on her new macbook laptop. It has 10.5.7
I have tried setting up two different email accounts in mail.app, one is a roadrunner webmail account, and the other is a gmail account. For the roadrunner account, I followed their instructions, which can be seen here: http://help.rr.com/HMSFaqs/eOSXmail.aspx
With the gmail account, mail.app was able to do the setup itself from the email address and password.
I know that the account information is partially correct because with both the accounts they were able to correctly download email onto the computer into mail.app. But both accounts have not been able to successfully send an email.
I can provide any other information about the settings used in the outgoing server or advanced information if it would be helpful.

This is so strange. The exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Suddenly, on my Mac and my PC, I was no longer able to SEND email. I am able to receive email...just not send. I too am a Comcast customer. I contacted Comcast and they, of course, said the problem had to do with the servers that my email client is trying to access and that it had nothing to do with them. We then set up my Comcast.net email account (which I never use) and it worked fine (sending and receiving).
So, I switched my other accounts to use Comcast's smtp server and that worked on the Mac only. I can now send email on my Mac but not on my PC.
This leads me to believe that it is not something wrong with my email client (since I have the problem on both my Mac and PC) but instead, something is up with Comcast.
I checked and it turns out that Comcast just implemented a new Acceptable Use Policy which specifically implements a NEW traffic management policy. This was JUST implemented this month. So, I am getting the sneaking suspicion that Comcast is somehow denying me access to those SMTP servers and I have to use their SMTP server instead.
Does this make any sense to anyone???? I am at a total loss here.

Search not working in Mail app

I am on a 3.2 ghz intel core i3 iMac 27in from 2010. I'm on 10.7.5 which I recently upgraded maybe a couple months ago from 10.7.2. Mail version 5.3.
For a while now, (and I honestly can't remember if it coincided with the recent upgrade), I have not been able to search my emails which is a huge inconvenience. For example, when I know an email came to me 2 weeks ago with the subject line 'invoice' and I go to type 'invoice' in the mail search box, it comes up with 0 results. Nothing. I know there are probably 30 emails in my mailbox that include that word and nothing comes up. The only thing that does come up is if I search for people, and even then it doesn't come up with everyone, maybe just people in my address book, so if a new email came in from someone and i search their name, that doesn't come up, but if I search my mom's email name, that comes up fine.
This is incredibly annoying and makes no sense why this would just start happening. I have a lot of emails in my inbox and need to search often for old ones. And strangly, the search function works on my phone and seems to work when I connect remotely (my main email I use is icloud).
I have looked at other similar threads and tried using Onyx to reindex my email and spotlight. Didn't help. I tried removing the search box, also nothing.
Is anyone else having this problem or does anyone have a solution? I'm going a little crazy trying to figure this out and wondering why certain things like reindexing seems to work for some but not me.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

Copy and paste not working in Mail app on my iPod Touch 32GB

I have an iPod Touch and cannot copy or paste anything in the Mail application. I have no problem copying or pasting in other applications. Unfortunately, being able to copy and paste into/from Mail is probably one of the most important things that I need to do on my Touch.
I don't know if this means anything, but I do notice that the tiny progress indicator, just to the right of the WiFi indicator on the top left of the screen, never stops spinning when I'm in Mail.
I have a 32GB 3rd-generation Touch which is not jail broken, if that even makes sense for a non-iPhone (I've seen this problem mentioned regarding jail broken iPhones).
By the way, I can SELECT text (or position the cursor) with the magnifying glass, no probem. It just never pops up the copy/paste bubble thingy.
Thank you for any advice. This is a real bummer in what otherwise has been a downright ethereal experience with my new Touch.
(I don't know what ethereal means either, but you get my drift.)

Genius I'm certainly not but I'm glad it worked.
FYI, a Reset is a common troubleshooting step for may iPod/iPhone software issues. I generally Reset my iPhone once/week or so, whether I think it needs it or not.

Authenticated RSS broken in Mail.app

regular RSS works fine.
Authenticated RSS from pbwiki works fine in Safari, but does NOT work in Mail.app
It seems to be generally unstable: sometimes it is able to authenticate and create a keychain entry (and then fails to retrieve the feed), other times it cannot even authenticate...
Any ideas?

Unfortunately RSS feeds do not synchronize. Hopefully Apple will add this in the future. It seems as though this would be fairly simple to include so I'm optimistic that it will eventually show up. Hopefully sooner rather than later!

Mail is not working. The app opens because I see a light on under "Mail" in the dock.

Mail is not working. The app opens because I see a light on under "Mail" in the dock, and I see the menu at the top of my screen, but I don't see the app itself or any windows. It is like it is running in the background, but I can't see it. Everthing is subdued when I click on the choices up in the menu. I have tried "Force Quit" and then re-opening the mail app several times, and have rebooted my notebook twice. What is weird is that this started right after I changed my password in a browser (it is a gmail account). I went into the System Preferences on my MacBook and changed my password there as well, so it should be setup properly to open. I am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5. Any help anyone can provide is much appreciated.

Sound alerts not working in Mail and Ichat apps since upgrade to 10.4.9

I just noticed my Sound alets not working in Mail and Ichat apps since upgrade to 10.4.9.
I'm using soundsticks which is playing sounds thru quicktime, itunes, etc but my alert sounds for getting new emails and IM messages is not working. I get the quick "white flash" on the screen instead. I checked the prefs on both apps and it is set to give me the alert sound, I can even test it in the ichat pref when I change the new message alert sound it will play it thru my speakers but when I get a new message in either app it just gives me the white flash.
I'm read that it can be an issue of not having the balance in the system sound pref set the middle, so I checked that, restarted, all that but still no luck.
I really like the sound alert features because I can be in another part of my house, turn the sound way up and I'll know when one of my clients is trying to reach me but now I can't do that.
Any ideas?

Can't sign in using any 3rd party email client with my iCloud account on any Mac. Tried every settings, My iCloud only works with Mail.app

Can't sign in using any 3rd party email client with my iCloud account on any Mac or any other Mac. My iCloud will only work with Mail.app. All the clients I tried work perfectly well as long as I sign in with somebody else's iCloud account. But mine won't work no matter the client (Postbox, Unibox, Airmail...) and no matter the computer.
I can access my account on iCloud.com, but I can't use email clients without getting error messages prompting me to check my password or login.
I was able to use those clients in the past but a couple of months ago I got logged out of Airmail and the issue started just like that!
I tried every possible mail server settings including the following:
IMAP information for the incoming mail server
Server name: imap.mail.me.com
SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
Port: 993
Username: The name part of your iCloud email address (for example, emilyparker, not [email protected])
Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP information for the outgoing mail server
Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
Port: 587
SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: Your full iCloud email address (for example, [email protected], not emilyparker)
Password: Your iCloud password

Those are the correct settings, and they work with any email client that supports Imap.
Try again.

My "update all" buton will not work in the app store. It gives me a message saying there is not enough storage to update.. I know i have storage left on the phone. I even bought more icloud storage. Any ideas??? Please help??? thanks

Try deleting the old backup.
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the device name and on the resulting screen, scroll down and tap on Delete Backup.

How can I update the "Last Saved" time of individual notes in the Mail app

I have about 30 notes in my Mail app, which I conveniently sync to my iPhone via iTunes.
Problem is, the iPhone only sorts by modification date, whereas I want them sorted alphabetically.
If I knew where the individual notes files were located on the Mac, I could write a simple shell script to sort them and then touch the files to update the modification date.
I look in user/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Notes.mbox, but the individual notes files don't appear accessible.
Does anyone have any idea how I can accomplish what I'm after?

The wish list only works on apps you have to pay for. To get it tap the icon of the app you want to save. After it opens at the upper right corner is a box with a arrow. Tap that then tap add to wish list list in the box that opens.
