Kernal panic after installing LR3- now after re-install,no privileges

imac
2.4 gHz
300 HDD
3G ram
I installed Lightroom 3 and in 64 bit mode it crashed the system with 'kernal panic'.
Managed to get it working in 32 bit (slowly) but was advised to re-install 10.5.8 as I was getting ACL found but not expected errors when I tried to repair permissions.
I re-installed but now find I have no administrator privileges - so can't do any updates etc;
managed to do: Installer>Utilities>reset password - but it still says password is wrong.
I also had used Time Machine to back up my system : when I tried to restore, the restore button is greyed out - I can select on various items, but that is as far as I can get.
Am at my wits end - don't see why the re-install has caused this problem

If all else fails, you can reinstall Snow Leopard using the same installer disc you used to install it originally (or your grey system discs if your Mac came with Snow Leopard installed). This will not erase your user files but you will have to update the OS & Apple-supplied apps after the installation. This isn't as painful as it sounds if you use the Software Update app immediately following the first normal restart after the installation completes. Software Update is smart enough to pick the most appropriate update(s) to get your Mac back to the latest software, including automatically picking the Combo version of the OS updater if the installed version is more than one minor version behind the latest one.
In fact, given how slow a Time Machine restore can be, if you have a fast high speed Internet connection this could take less time & effort on your part than doing the TM restore. Plus, it guarantees that you get the latest versions of everything & that they are all properly linked.

  • Kernal Panic on hard drive sleep after upgrade to OS X 10.7.5 Macbook Pro 2012

After I installed the update to OS X 10.7.5, there is a kernal panic whenever my hard drive goes to sleep. I have reinstalled the OS, reset the NVRAM, run permissions and disk repair from internet recovery mode and am still having the problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply and the advice.
I was not able to get the machince to boot into Safe Mode. The progress bar stopped at arounf 25% and would not move.
I did go ahead and delete the software you mentioned as a way of troubleshoting the initial problem, with no sucess.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • VMM Agent Installation Issues (Was previously installed fine, now refuses to install (ends prematurely)

The VMM agent was installed on two Hyper-V host servers just fine (they were then removed temporarily from SCVMM), but trying to add the servers back into SCVMM it insisted the versions of the agents on the two hosts were unsupported (even though it
installed them) so it requested they were removed before retrying, after removing the agents it now refuses to install them and suggests installing them locally. Installing them on the local host manually just causes the installation to end prematurely.
    The firewall is completely disabled
    UAC is turned off
I have also tried running from elevated cmd using msiexec /I
    Any ideas??

    Hi,
Please refer below as it has some useful troubleshooting steps that might help you.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275
As you have tried from an elevated cmd, have you tried restarting Add Host job in VMM as the last step?
    http://networkerslog.blogspot.com/2013/07/unable-to-add-hyper-v-host-due-to.html
You can use PowerShell to reassociate the Host.

Let me know of any development.

  • IMac Clean install and now won't install Lion 10.7.5

My mid 2007 iMac was haveing trouble connecting to the internet via a browser and I took it into the Genius Bar and their only suggestion was to do a clean install and then see what happens.  I wiped the computer and tried a clean install.  It wouldn't install OS X 10.7 Lion (which this computer was previously running). I took it back into the Genius Bar and they had to install 10.6 Snow Leopard.  And now it won't upgrade to Lion (that it used to run till it started having problems).
    What's going on?
Now, 3 weeks later, on our other mid 2007 iMac is starting to have the same issues.
Is there something wrong with the OS?  I go to network diagnostics and it says it is connecting to the internet just fine.  But it won't connect via a browser or do software updates.
I go to Airport Utilities and it wants me to forget the AirPort Extreme.  Exact thing happened on the other iMac and I couldn't ever recover (or discover) the Extreme.
    Help !!!!!!!!

You mean 2011 or do you mean Mountain Lion? Lion came out in mid 2011 and ML in 2012. And yes, 7,1 is the model identifier. Here is something I found on running the current OS:
    From this site:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-2-duo-2.0-20-inch-alu minum-specs.html
    Did you try recovery?
Not sure if your machine would be able to qualify for the recovery disk assistant (since yours would need the assistant to create a recovery partition)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433
If that works, you should try using the recovery option (hit Command + Option + R during restart) to connect to Apple's servers and reinstall Lion.

  • Un-installed Facebook, now cannot re-install

    Hello all,
So my facebook wasn't sending my notifications at all but the options in it were highlighted to send them.  So I decided to uninstall it, no big deal, I can just reinstall it.  Wrong....
I uninstalled it, and then went back to install it, but the "Re-install" button wasn't there.  All the other apps I had uninstalled had that button but the facebook and I have no idea how to get it back.  Any tips??

  • Photosmart C7280 was installed & working - now will not install - URGENT solution needed

All in one was working fine. Is on Network. Dell Workstation is wired and so is all in one. Other computers are laptops - wireless working fine.  For an unexplained reason the software on the Dell stopped working - fax, scan, etc. But it would print but gave error messages.  So I uninstalled it and downloaded the latest software from theHP website.  First time trid to install - error message in the checking process - second part and uninstalled and did a check of the hP site but timed out. rebooted. Tried again after downloading from HP again. THis time it got to the install stage but once again an error. repeat process and this time downloaded a solution. Followed the steps in the solution - msconfig including firewall, rebooting, etc. Unsuccessful again.  Now have no printer on Dell and need to have it working as I have assessment taskc due on weekend and can't print them.  Need solution to solve this issue.

When you said you try to download it from the website. Did you click INSTALL on the driver or did you download and save it first on your computer? You may want to try and download and save it on the desktop. Once download is complete, manually start the installation by double clicking it on your desktop.
Aside from that, try to install just the drivers?
So when you're installing the driver/software, it will give you a screen where you can check the box for the user license agreement right? and above that is a 4 link that would say: Internet Connection Usage, Select a software (can't remember the rest of the two options) Click on the internet connection usage and choose the following options:
-First question: NO, I'll do it myself
    -Second question: NO, thank you
-Press OK to go back to the main screen
This time, click on the SELECT A SOFTWARE TO INSTALL
-Uncheck everything. except the very top of the list which is grayed out; That's the driver of the printer
-There might be other software installed on your pc already that would say "already installed" you can ignore that since it will be grayed out. You need to uncheck those things that you can uncheck.
-Click Ok to go back to main screen.
    -Proceed with the installation.
I hope that works for you.

  • Cannot open Photoshop: get error: To open "Adobe Photoshop CS5.app," you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?  However installing Java SE 6 runtime does not fix nor does installing Oracle Java SE 7. Adobe says Apple is problem.

Searching the internet for solutions to this and some discussion with Adobe.
Adobe say Photoshop does not use java so it should not be asking for a java runtime.
The question is how can I stop Photoshop asking to install java since Photoshop does not need or use Java to run?
Found various links that might be helpful:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/58203/mountain-lion-with-java -7-only/58841#58841,
Work around for app that asks fo SE 6 when SE 7 is installed

Known Issues with Adobe Software on OS X Lion
    Adobe's Installing Java SE 6

However as I have Oracle Java SE 7 installed and SE 6  is deprecated and no longer supported for security reasons.
Apple is actually responsible for Java 6's security. They take Oracle's code and do whatever is needed to make it compatible with Apple's OS. Java 6 is still getting security updates from Apple. Versions 6 and 7 can also exist on the same drive. They won't interfere with each other.
Also I am assured in no uncertain terms by Chris Cox over at Adobe that Photoshop CS 5 does not use java at all and that the java error message  and so called dependency is just an error on the part of Apple.
I did find a topic where Chris stated that for CS6, which I know is true. I've installed CS6 (and CC) on a newly formatted drive in Mountain Lion, and neither made any mention of requiring Java. Could have sworn CS5.5 and earlier did you Java for a few functions. Though I likely only assumed that since that version and earlier always causes a prompt to install Java if it isn't already on the drive.
So is there any way to run Photoshop with SE 7 only installed or even better with no java installed?
It doesn't really matter much if Java is installed. Java 6 should put an app in the Utilities folder by the name of Java Preferences. Open that, and you can completely disable it by undoing the check boxes.
Perhaps there is a way to make OS X stop thinking it needs java SE 6 to run Photoshop CS 5.
Apple would have to make a change to the OS itself. It's a not a user accessible setting.

  • My password has changed whilst installing lion now cant finish install?

My password has changed so i cant install Lion help
i have tried my mobilme password and changed that and re-entered it to no avail

So the question remains:  How to install from a local copy?
    There is no easy way.
If your Mac came with Lion preinstalled, your options are:
    1. Make a bootable clone immediately (before adding any apps or other files). Keep that for emergency purposes.
    2. Make a second bootable clone whenever there are major changes (and with all your apps and files installed).
    3. Purchase the USB stick from Apple for $69.
    4. You cannot purchase or download Lion from MAS (except with/through your internet recovery option) because you did not purchase Lion there in the first place (unless you were to completely erase your hard drive and then purchase/download Lion from MAS and then copy/save the installer to a safe place).
    shldr2thewheel:
discs are becomming a thing of the past
I don't believe that is going to happen quite as quickly as Apple hopes it will.
P.S. I give up on the formatting - three tries: your name shows up fine in the reply window and then gets messed up......

  • After Kernal Panic can't see Time Machine Drive

I have a usb iSub speaker.
Apparently it is NOT compatible with Leopard but I have been following certain threads with interest as I hate to sell it just yet.
Yesterday there was a post that said if you go into Audio MIDI Setup and change some settings, then change them back- your iSub will work!
Well when I was in the Audio MIDI Setup utility I experienced a kernal panic (first since using Leopard)
After that I was not able to boot past the Grey Apple Screen.
I even left it overnight and it would not start.
I finally reverted to my old Tiger backup external drive- I booted to that, then started my Tiger DVD,
I ran Disk Utility, then Repaired permissions and I am back up and running.
My Time Machine hard drive is not showing on my desktop though! (I have 2 external drives- one is my old Tiger cloned back up with SuperDuper- the other is my TimeMacine backup)
I tried looking for it with DiskUtility but it is not seeing it either.
Any advice would be helpful at this point.
One other thing...it seems to be writing....the case the hard drive is in has lights on it and it is blinking..and I can hear it slightly.

    Hello:
If I were you (and I am not), I would bundle up the repaired computer and your Time Machine drive and take it in and ask the Apple person to bring it back to life.  IMHO, that should have been done the first time.
    Barry

  • Kernal panic with install disk

    Hello.
I've successfully used my SL install disk to launch Utilities on my G5 and switch Firmware Password on, so I know that the DVD is OK - it's the Apple original. When I try on my MBP, the boot repeatedly stalls on the gray Apple screen then gives me a kernal panic message to switch off. The install disk mounts OK when I've booted from the HD but won't restart from the disk. They are both running SL 10.6.7 with everything up to date. The MBP works fine in every other respect but I can't set a firmware password on it.
    Thanks.

2 yr old Imac with 8 gig memory. SN 10.6.8.
Cannot boot computer. Get the above kernal panic. Occurs on safe mode boot, boot from DVD, as well as standard boot.
Everything was fine until I tried booting from the SN DVD. Then the kernal panic started. It occurs after the apple is displayed on the screen.

After install of Mavericks, it looks like my system kernal panics and just sits there. I tried waiting over two nights. The file seems to create the CD/DVD/Image and USB just fine. So I used this only to create a CD image which I then wrote on a blank CD which seems to work fine. Also, I played around a bit and had some partial success in booting the partition. I've updated my original opening post with the new findings.
Whew!! what a waste of time! Never want to do all of this again .

  • Kernal panic after failed Leopard install

Was upgrading a MacMini from the installed 10.4 system to 10.5. The install reported a problem reading the DVD during the first phase of the install (when the DVD and platform was being analyzed) and before any install started.
Rather than removing the DVD, I went ahead and ran the install a second time, this time hitting SKIP during the first phase. This move the install to the actual install which tried to start but stopped after less than a minute again reporting a problem reading the DVD.
Since I wasn't sure how to eject the DVD from within the installer, I decided to boot using the 10.4 installed system. Within seconds (just after the apple logo was displayed) there was a kernal panic. A complete shutdown and reboot of the Mini failed to solve the problem and the panic occurred again at the same location in startup.
I got help on how to remove the DVD and, sure enough, it did have a water spot which I cleaned and re-ran the 10.5 install which was successful. I'm able to boot the new system with any panic.
I ran a repair disk just to make sure there wasn't some other problem that might have been unrelated to the failed install but no errors (other than a couple APL not found messages) were found.
My intent is to migrate from a G4, now also running 10.5 but this experience has left me a little concerned that there may be a problem on the Mini that may not have been resolved through the successful Leopard install.
Are there other tests or utilities I can run to get more comfortable that the panic is gone before I do the migrate?
    Thanks
    Tom

Use the Apple Hardware Test program that shipped with the machine and then follow up with running Rember. Once that's done, install Leopard and migrate from the G4, make a bootable backup/clone of the new installation, and then apply any subsequent updates.

  • Freezing & Kernal Panics even after an erase/install!!!

I have a Macbook Book Pro 17 inch, 2.4ghz processor intel core 2 duo, 4gb ram bought in around June 2007.
Recently my computer started acting up randomly, it started to freeze up where everything didn't respond but I could still move my mouse around. But in the end i would have to do a force shut down.
Then after that, while it is in the gray loading screen, it starts to do a kernal panic message where the grey screen drops down, BUT the grey screen freezes up mid way while its dropping and i have to do a hard reset again! Sometimes the kernal panic will make it all the way down the page, but most of the time it won't.
So I decided to FSCK my harddrive and then that allowed me to log in and save off everything so I can just perform a whole new fresh erase and install.
After the fresh reinstall, I started loading all my applications today, but while I was in the middle of installing the final cut pro studio 2, it froze. Now it is starting to continue the pattern for freezing randomly when Im either surfing the web or using quicktime, etc.
I can't figure out what is going on.
The only thing I can think of is that it could be my external harddrive causing problems?
    or
some crappy 3rd party software I installed?
    or
faulty hardware - ie. ram issues? i dunno.
If anybody has a solution or something! that would be great.
The apps I loaded were basic apps like Final Cut studio 2, Adobe Creative Suite cs3, Microsoft Office 2008, logic pro 8, ilife 06, iwork 06.
Other non traditional ones (3rd party etc) would be
Adium, firefox, Cyberduck, Garmin webupdater, Tascam 144 Audio interface, auto tune 5, flip4mac, iAlertU, InsomniaX, itoner, SwapMyDock, Transmission, and You Control Tunes.
I hope this information helps. Thanks for hearing me out!

Please... take a look at this topic:

Until yesterday I was with the same problem.
In advance I'll tell you to run Apple Hardware test tool...
Put your Leopard DVD and boot with the "D" key pressed... and see what you get.
    Good luck!

    Hi-
I would consider the problem to possibly be incompatibility with Leopard.
The seller states 10.2/10.3/10.4 "and above", but does this include 10.5x? Leopard is not specifically mentioned. "And above" could mean up to 10.4.11.......
If you have a drive with OS 10.4x on it, try booting to that volume with the card.
If it works, then it's an OS incompatibility.
If it doesn't, then the card is the problem.
Biggest problem, is it looks like some generic brand. Not knowing the maker really makes trouble shooting difficult.
    Is is a Broadcom chipset?
While generic Broadcom chipset cards worked well up through 10.4.11, Leopard seems to have "broken" that generic support that was previously enjoyed, for at least some of those chips. Seems to be an "era" related thing......
If the chipset is Atheros, the previously successful Orangeware driver also doesn't work in Leopard.
