Kernal panic as iTunes "Get Info" commanded

While trying to fill in some of the info of imported music tags in Itunes library, a Kernal Panic is initiated instead. What is the work around for this? I have already corrected Permissions and performed disk repairs. Besides, exporting & importing from another software to fill out the info, is there a trick I'm missing. And, while on the subject of info, why can't the Year and Track number columns be edited by clicking on them as the Name or Album can be right there on the window?

It may have to do with the limitations of the id3 tag capability/capacity. Go to http://id3.org/ to learn more about id3 tags.
You can make suggestions from the iTunes dropdown menu 'Provide iTunes Feedback'.

  • No "Open in 32-bit mode" check box in iTunes "Get info"

When I try to run iTunes the error message.  "To run iTunes in 64-bit mode, select the iTunes application in the Finder, choose the “Get Info” command in the File menu, and uncheck the “Open in 32-bit mode” checkbox in the iTunes Info window."
I have just updated to 10.9

After long phone call with apple support the thing that seemed to work was:
    make a new user.
Copying the itunes app from the new user’s Application folder to the shared folder.
Then open up your old user account and copy it over the old itunes app.
hope it works for you too

Could not save Preferences because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to ensure the file is unlocked and you have permission to access the file. If the problem persists, save the document to a different file or duplicate it in the Finder.

I cannot find the next and previous button in iTunes get info menu?
Is there anyone that has also experienced this problem that can help me please
I have the lates version of Itunes

I have managed to figure out how to solve this problem, after looking around I saw a lot of people kept saying makesure it is list view however this still did not work, I found the only way for me get these buttons back was to change the Movie to a TV Show and only then did the "Next" and "Previous" button appear. Right Click> Get Info > Options > Media Kind and then Select TV Show, this is extremely inconvienent but the only way that I found that has worked so far.
Hope this works for you too!!

  • 'Get Info' command locks up iTunes 8.2

Whenever I use the command 'Get Info' (which I do often), iTunes locks up. Doesn't matter if I use the mouse, keyboard shortcut or the menu command, iTunes will lock up.
Any suggestions out there? It's getting very frustrating.

    Hi Jim,
Try removing any 3rd-party iTunes plug-ins or add-ons as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA22611
If the issue persists, try reinstalling iTunes as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224

  • "Get info" (command I) shortcut not working

When using Finder (MacBookPro 10.5.5), if I try to use the keyboard shortcut of command-I to get info on a file, it doesn't work. Nothing happens.
If I go through the menu, then it works fine. Other shortcuts, like open (command-O) still work.
I've added this shortcut under system preferences, but that hasn't helped.
Option-Command-I and control-command-I will bring up the info window.
Note, this is not for itunes--I've seen that plenty of people are having problems with "get info" there.

Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. If not, there's corruption/conflict in the original account. If so, then it's system-wide and installing the latest COMBO update, repairing permissions, and restarting should fix it. If not, report back for more detailed steps.

  • Help! Strange things happen when I use Get Info command

Hi, I have updated iTunes for 7.7.1, and since then a strange thing happen: whenever I pick a Smart Playlist, select a song and use the Command-I, the Get Info screen appears for a few seconds, and then the "Cancel" button is highlighted, as if I had clicked on it, and the screen is closed.
Funny thing is that I am not clicking the "Cancel" button, but it happens automatically after a few seconds, and only with songs in the Smart Playlists. I haven't found a thing about it at the Discussion forums, can anyone help?

In iTunes, right click on the file and Get Info.
Make sure it is marked Remember Playback Position.

  • ITunes "get info" respond time is slow

As a person who edits tagging info very often, the slow respond time when I click on "get info" is annoying me.
It used to respond immediately, but now I have to wait 2~3 seconds to get the "get info" window up.
I recently switched my computer from Windows Vista to Windows 8, and installed the latest version of iTunes (11.1.4.62, 64 bit version)
This slow respond time did not occur on my previous computer, so could this be a problem with my computer? Is there a way to fix it then?
I tried re-installing iTunes, but that did not solve the problem.

It doesn't look like this has been fixed -- in fact, it appears to have become worse.  Now, if I'm in an iTunes window and I pull up "Get Info" on a track, the window comes up and I can edit, but when I press the "Next" button, focus reverts back to the iTunes window, leaving the Info widow hanging there without focus.  If I want to add track numbers to a CD that was ripped without them, I have to keep clicking on the info window to restore focus after each change.
    What's the problem here, iTunes??

  • Making edits to iTunes 'get info'

I would like to know how I can go about making edits to my album info on the iMac (ie. genres, title, year, album art, etc) and they can actually stay permanently - when I do the edits - they stay for a bit and then a few days will go by and then they are back to the original settings - so, I ask, how do I make the changes in the 'get info' tab permanently

Yes, others are seeing this. Something in purchased media (I am pretty sure this has only happened with purchased media) is periodically checking back with the iTunes Store and resetting the tags in the iTunes library file but not in the actual media files (metadata are stored in both).  I haven't seen a truly systematic diagnosis of the issue (I use an old iTunes and have no iTunes account so I can't test anything myself).  There are temporary workarounds but tags will still revert after a time.
2014 discussion about edited tags for Store purchases reverting to originals - https://discussions.apple.com/message/26077896#26077896 - edited tags are still present in the media file but revert to the originals in the iTunes library file.  Workaround is to refresh tags so media file tags are re-read and used in library file.

Send feedback to Apple about this so they know it is an issue they need to investigate:

Don't expect an immediate solution but maybe the next time they update the software it may be resolved.

  • Album art added via Itunes 'Get Info' not updating on iPhone 5

Im wanting to use Itunes specifically to add album artwork to my music which is managed manually. With the previous itunes version, it was a case of dragging and dropping a jpeg into the bottom left corner and hey presto! However, now...nothing.
Ive confirmed all manner of things/issues explained after "research" on the net. So far nothing has worked out. Ive confirmed that the artwork is jpeg (even tried png) and also that its not locked under any specific permissions in Windows 7.
To illustrate the annoyance of it, i can use a third party program to add the album art to an mp3 (prior to it being synced onto the iphone) and it will show up perfectly then! Now, you may be wondering 'why not just do that? problem solved'. Not quite. Windows is annoying to say the least especially with album artwork. Its all fine adding the artwork to mp3 files, but it then adds hidden artwork files in the folders themselves.
As i said before, i was able to do it manually with the previous itunes version but now im out of ideas. The 'Get Info' tab then onto 'Artwork' in itunes is where im trying to update the files. I can load them there, they will show on the files under itunes, but not on the iphone. As i manage my music manually ive also attempted to remove all tracks, re-sync and try and add again; nothing.
Any ideas would be much appreciated. Granted this can only be really described as an annoyance, but its annoying nonetheless.
    Peace

...all music that is on the iphone has been merely dragged and dropped from a generic windows folder.
Dragging music files directly from Windows and dropping onto the device?  I have no idea how that is even possible, but right there you're deviating from the intended design -- iTunes is meant to be the intermediary.
Are you suggesting that i first update the music in the itunes library and then drag & drop to the iphone? In a way, not manually manage the music?
Yes, that IS what what I'm suggesting, and that is what manually managing means in the iTunes world.  It is a media manager for your devices, and if you're bypassing it then its no wonder you're struggling.  It sounds like you're coming from a mp3 player perspective, and like it or not, that's not how i-devices work.
I'm sorry to say, but if you try to force things another way it will be a rocky relationship to say the least.

  • Command line version of finder's get info command

I am trying to find which version of MS Office 2008 is installed on a bunch of machines. On one machine, I can just do a get info on the MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework, but I don't want to have to touch every machine.
Does anyone know of a way to get this info using the command line?
Ideally, I would like to use ARD's send unix command to grab this info from a lot of machines, then run install the .mpkg on the machines that aren't the latest version...
    Thanks in advance

Maybe not. According to the defaults man page:
WARNING: The defaults command will be changed in an upcoming
major release to only operate on preferences domains. General
plist manipulation utilities will be folded into a different
    command-line program.
They say there will be an upgrade path, but I can't imagine it being named "PlistBuddy". That sounds way too much like some programmer named it. They need something more professional. plutil is already taken, but maybe it could be enhanced. plmanip maybe.

  • ITunes Get Info prompts missing

    OS 10.9.5, iTunes 12.01.
How do I get the year filled in on new videos?
The new "Get Info" doesn't have a prompt on new files for the year - and the "add fields" is grayed out:
Here's a "Get Info" from last week that does have the year field:
The release dates on EVERYTHING are totally messed up ... I can just make that column go away ... but the year thing seems like I'm missing something.

I figured it out! ... Change the file to a "Home Video" under Options in the Get Info tabs ... the Year prompt come up then! ... Then switch back to TV after fixing the year and it's all set :-)
