It's possible you may have some bad RAM - with the computer should be a Applecare diagnostics disc, you can boot from that and run some tests or call Applecare to have them walk through it with you.
I just recently had some bad memory that led to some system crashes and kernel panics, I think that to be the most likley cause. Applecare might be able to help run other tests as well - and I think you can call them 24x7 if I remember right.
If it is something simple like memory Apple will ship tuff out to you and you can ship back the damaged part (or of course you can take it to an Apple store).

  • Import an additional Aperture library to Photos?

I successfully upgraded and imported my iPhoto library to the new Photos app.
I have an other, Aperture, library as well.
    How do I import that?
If I try via the Import dialog from the file menu, the Aperture library is greyed out.
If I drag and drop the Aperture library onto the Photos app, it asks me if I want to switch libraries.
What is going to happen to my already imported photos if I switch?
How do I consolidate my previous Aperture library into my existing Photos library?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
    J

If I drag and drop the Aperture library onto the Photos app, it asks me if I want to switch libraries.
What is going to happen to my already imported photos if I switch?
When you switch, Photos will create an additional library and you can switch back and forth between libraries. To switch libraries, hold down the alt/options key while launching Photos.
If you have several libraries, you have to decide which library should be the System Photo Library. Only the System Photo Library can upload to iCloud and is visible in the media Browser for Desktop/Screensaver, other applications.  You enable a library as System Photo Library in the Photos Preferences > General.
A second library can be convenient, if you do not want to upload all photos to iCloud Drive because of lack of storage on the synced devices. You could have one small library, that syncs with iCloud, and another large library for the photos you d not need in iCloud.

  • How do I import a large Aperture library from an external disk?

I have a large Aperture library, about 110GB of photos, it currently resides on an external USB3 drive for space reasons.  I'd like to migrate this into Photos, but every time I try I get an error: "There is not enough disk space to migrate your library. It is estimated that you need at least 21GB of additional free space."
From finder, if I get info on my Mac's main drive, it says I have 297.51 GB available, and on disk, my Aperture library is 105.8 GB.  There is almost 3x as much space available as I should need!?  And after the first time I tried this I freed up an additional 30 GB of space and still received the same message, still claiming to need 21 GB of space.
My drive has FileVault enabled, would that matter?

I experienced the exact same problem. I have a iPhoto Library in another volume (or partition) with very small free space, while main/system partition (Macintosh HD) has big enough free space.
Turned out, the one that should have big free space is the volume/partition that contains original iPhoto Library (to import from), not the system partition. So, I freed up some space, reopen Photos app (while holding Alt key), and select the iPhoto Library to import. It works!

  • Aperture Library Importer name is not unique error

When importing my archival Aperture library into Lightroom I get the error "name is not unique:" and then the name that is not unique.
In my case the name in question isn't a project within Aperture but a Facebook album posted long ago using photos from Aperture. I haven't had my Facebook account linked to Aperture in a long time, but Lightroom throws this error now.
The published album shows up nowhere in my Aperture library. The Console app shows "1/2/15 5:22:06.979 PM Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5[13255]: Oops! An untagged string (name is not unique: In Which There Is A Flying Train_1) got thrown far enough that we display it to the user. This shouldn't happen."
One of the other Aperture libraries I imported also used to have my Facebook account on it, but it also does not have that anymore and the published albums were removed.
How can I get around this and successfully import my library?

I get the same message and then after name is not unique it says:  iPhone.  were you able to find out what the issue is?

  • Problems importing iPhoto to Aperture 3 - Insufficient Disk Space

I have just purchased A3, and am trying to import my iPhoto library into Aperture. The iPhoto library is 57Gb, and I am importing to an external HDD that has 660Gb free. I am importing into my aperture library, following the process described in the guide.
Each time I try this, the import goes into error, saying I have no space to import the library to.
The error message is as follows, "*Insufficient Disk Space* - There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library Volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least an additional -2147483647MB of Space"

I downloaded the trial version, and loaded it up onto my new 27" iMac, running Snow Leopard in 64 bit mode, with 600 GB free on the hard drive. I tried to import iPhoto - same error, same "insufficient disk space amount". Yah, my library is about 60 GB, not 2000 GB!
I did two things: First, I opened iPhoto from the finder by holding Option+Command, then in the resulting box, told it to rebuild the thumbnails. It chugged along for a while. After it was done I quit iPhoto. I then opened Aperture 3 trial, and imported the library. Same issue.
However, I tried it again - this time, I told it to save the photos in a folder - "Photos" it says - rather than in the Aperture library file. Tada! Works like a charm.
The import is still going after quite a while - slurping down all the CPU and RAM my iMac can provide while doing it - but it's working!

  • What is the best way to copy aperture library on to external hard drive? I am getting a message that say's "There was an error opening the database. The library could not be opened because the file system of the library's volume is unsupported".

What is the best way to copy aperture library on to external hard drive? I am getting a message that say's "There was an error opening the database. The library could not be opened because the file system of the library's volume is unsupported". What does that mean? I am trying to drag libraries (with metadata) to external HD...wondering what the best way to do that is?

Hi Shane.  Not much in the way of thoughts - - but fwiw:
    How is the drive attached?
Can you open large files on the drive with other programs?
Are you running any drive compression or acceleration programs (some drives arrive with these installed)?
Can you reformat the drive and try again?
    Hi Kirby,
I attached the UltraMax Plus with a USB cable. The UltraMax powers the cable so power is not an issue. I can open other files. Also, there is 500GB of files on the drive so I cannot re-format it. Although, I noted I could import the entire Aperture Library. However, I do not want to create a duplicate on my machine because that would be defeating the purpose of the external drive.
    Thanks,

  • Aperture Library Volume

I am having a problem with my Aperture library volume showing full. My library is on an external drive (1TB) with over 500 gig available. Would someone be able to tell me why this keeps coming up....thanks

    Dave,
what exactly are your import settings?
Look at the "Aperture Library " brick in the "Import Settings" panel:  How is the "Store Files" drop down menu set - to "In the Aperture Library" or differently?
And are you actually importing into your Aperture library on your external drive, or have you accicentally opened a new library on the system volume?  (This can easily happen, if your drive is accidentally dismounted, while Aperture is using the Library. Then it simply creates a new one).
To make sure you are using the correct library, lauch Aperture by double clicking the Library.

  • Photo preview blank when browsing Aperture Library from iPhoto

    Hello to everyone,
I need to import in iPhoto some photo of my Aperture's Library, but when I open it from iPhoto I can see all the pictures exept the lastest that I've imported in the Aperture Library (that have been taken with a Canon EOS 550D with RAW format): I see a blank icon (that can I select and import in my iPhoto library) instead its preview.
In Aperture the Canon EOS 550D RAW format works correctly, but I can't see the preview of the image in the browser under iPhoto.
Can anyone help me solving this problem?
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (with all the updates) and the lastest versione of both iPhoto and Aperture.
    Thanks.
    Andrea

    Hi Terence,
thanks for the reply, but I've already regenerated all my previous (the entire library), but with no success.. I still continue to see a blank icon browsing the Aperture Library from iPhoto.
But I see that each time I enter in Aperture, it alway restart processing library (but only for some photos).. when it finish that process, I close Aperture and when I enter in it again, it restart processing the same photos.. again and again and again
    Any other suggestion?
    Regards.

  • Get old Aperture library into iPhoto without need to upgrade Aperture first?

I've my photo libraries in an old Aperture format. I didn't upgrade to Aperture 3, because I didn't get a new Mac until recently. Now with Yosemite my old Aperture app can't be installed anymore (neither old iPhoto). So I've not an old Aperture library file which I'd like to import into the new iPhoto, but I get the dialog that I've to upgrade to Aperture 3 first.
Do I really have to purchase a $80 upgrade to get my pictures out of an old version of Aperture? I'd upgrade to Aperture 3 and continue using it if it wasn't already announced to be discontinued soon. But what to do until the new Photo.app is available some time in 2015, plus who knows whether the announced "will be able to import Aperture libraries" isn't also limited to Aperture 3+ versions?
You see my pickle?! I can't run old Aperture on Yosemite, I can't import my old Aperture library into the new iPhoto and Photo.app isn't available yet. What to do?
The option to run an old OS X via VMWare, import Aperture to old iPhoto and then upgrade to new iPhoto also seems a bit much work.
What I am looking for would essentially be a "Import Aperture 2 library into (new) iPhoto" script/tool/converter.
    Thanks,
    -H

    Crrect - as I said
you can get the original photos out by copying the masters folder and importing to iPhoto
And yes there is no good solution for switching from a outdated software package to a different up to date one - Aperture or pretty much any other software - iPhoto will update all old iPhoto libraries and Aperture will update all old Aperture libraries but iPhoto will not update old Apertue libraries nor will Aperture update old iPhoto libraries

  • I have mistakenly saved some files to my aperture library

I generally save to a series of portable drives. but I imported a bunch of jobs by mistake to my aperture library and it has made the library file pretty huge.
is there a way to delete files that are mistakenly saved to the aperture library?
I've scoured the manual but can't seem to figure out how out to fix my mistake.

The easiest way to do this is to set up a Smart Album. When the Smart Settings appear click on the top right hand corner on the + sign, select "file status" and a file status line with a pull down menu item will appear at the bottom of the Smart Settings dialog window. You can then select to have managed files shown (those in your Aperture Library) or referenced shown (referenced files not in the library) or missing files. I have these albums always displayed in my Aperture library so I know what is referenced and what is not. Sometimes the import selects the Aperture library for reasons I don't know. If you want these albums at the top of the stack I insert a space before the name and name them either referenced, managed or missing. Then follow the prior post to relocate your master images. Hope this helps.

  • My aperture library will not open after restoring my whole computer after a kernal panic.  I can not get the Aperture troubleshooting menu to open...any help?

My aperture library will not open after restoring my whole computer after a kernal panic.  I can not get the Aperture troubleshooting menu to open...any help?

    Leonie,
Fisrt let me thank you for your reply and assistance!  So here is the problem with so more detail...I was not sure I was going to get any replies ; )
I restored from a time machine back up.
    History of Failure:
I was trying to launch Aperture when the kernal panic occured.  My computer had been closed, and asleep and the battery was dead.  I plugged in charger and it was restoring/waking up after being asleep/shutting down from dead battery.  I launched Aperture from the dock and as soon as it opened the kernal panic occured.  After that the computer would not turn on.  It would try to boot then it would shut off.  I even tried to safe boot to no avail.  I went to the Apple store and they told me that the only thing I could do was restore whole computer from back up.  So thats what I did.
Since then my previous aperture library: "2011" will not open.  I have created a new aperture library "2012", and it runs fine.  I have added new photos for about the past month...no problems.
When I launch aperture with 2012 library then try to switch libraries, I get the following prompt: "The selected library is from an older version of Aperture and requires a relaunch to switch."  I choose "Relaunch" and I get the following warning prompt: "There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Library 20111.aplibrary”."  The only option is "Quit"
    Both libraries are version 3.2.3
    Computer stats: 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, OS X 10.6.8
I have tried to launch aperture troubleshooting by holding option+command from both the aperture icon and from the library file, neither will launch the troubleshooting feature.
I am ok with computers, but not a whiz (mechanical engineer)...to me it seems as though there is a corrupt path or file or some sort of "check" that is failing, becuase the failure occurs so fast after trying to launch aperture. Maybe that doesn't make any sense but just a thought.
I hope that you may be able to provide some insight.  Thank you again for you time and I hope that you have a nice day!
    Mike

  • 10.6.7 + Aperture 3.1.1 = Kernal Panic - Help Please!

Since upgrading to 10.6.7 I've had two kernal panics when using Aperture. The following is the KP report. Any thoughts on what's happening?
FWIW, I've also been having freezes in one of my user accounts that seem pretty random.
    Thanks.

  • Will fonts created in an earlier form (Pages/Word) show up when imported?

    Hi,
If i create a form in Pages/Word with eg: Century Gothic or Gill Sans and would like to import that form to Adobe Acrobat Pro to continue my form before saving it as an editable .pdf. Will the Fonts be the same then?
    /Sten

Hello - I have the same problem with embedding images to send to windows users.  I can see images if I email my self, but I use a Mac Mini.  When Windows users open the email, they are reduced to attachments to open.
Frustrating, if you find an answer, please share.  I just sent in request to support community.
    Thank you - Jonathan

  • How do I import images created in earlier versions of Aperture and saved to DVD as an Aperture library into Aperture 3.2.1?

When I insert the DVD into my MacPro the disk appears as though it is blank, with the little 'burn' icon in the top right
When I insert the DVD into my macbook it shows the full Aperture library structure and when I allow file sharing between the machines the MacPro can also recognises the files
I suspect I am making a basic error somewhere as the images are clearly all there.  This doesnt just occur for one DVD, I have dozens that are all perfroming in the same way when I try to import files created in an earlier version of Aperture back into the version I am now using, 3.2.1
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    Reiss.

To get the old library into Aperture it will need to be upgrade. To do this you will need to copy the library off the DVD onto our HD and then open Aperture on this library. Aperture should then upgrade the library to the latest version.

  • Do Not Import Duplicates (former PC /user/)

I about to set down and go through the Aperture Tutes.
However, can anyone advise as to whether it is a good idea to check the box to not import duplicates from my iPhoto Library or whether there may be a better way to manually delete these once they are in the program? I used Duplicate Annhilator at one point while in iPhoto but I am not sure I got it to work correctly.
I am moving from PC which means that the import into iPhoto was not very pretty and I had to do a lot of moving around to get images that had basically been in tens of different folders to sit in one single Album and in some cases there may be an image that should in fact show up in more than one or two Albums (even though I know this is not very good form).
While I would very much like to avoid having duplicates in the original database I would also like to avoid a scenario where I know I had a photo in the database but I cannot find it because the Do Not Import Duplicates option deleted the dupe from an Album it /should/ be in and left the original image in an Album where I would not think to look (or where I would need to search for awhile).
Any advice on helping me get further unstuck from the PC would be great.
    Thanks,
    Jon

The "Don't import Duplicates" only checks by filename (iirc -- either way, it is very limited in function). It won't help you at all in your quest to cull duplicates from your iPhoto library.
If your iPhoto Library is a mess and you import it into Aperture, your Aperture Library will also be a mess. The advantage here is that Aperture has better tools for you to use to organize and prune (and prevent making a mess in the future).
My advice is: make the import; read the first seven chapters of the [Aperture User Manual|http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual> (if you haven't yet); and create two additional libraries:
. a "practice" library containing nothing you don't mind losing (for instance, duplicates you make just for this purpose) which you use to try out everything you learn about Aperture, and
. a new empty Library for the images you capture while you are learning how to use Aperture and molding your old iPhoto mess into shape
Aperture makes it easy to switch between Libraries (and when you are ready, to merge Libraries).
Take your time. Be patient. As the carpenter says to his apprentice: +Measure twice, cut once.+
And ask more questions. You'll have plenty. Be as specific as possible.
