Kernal Panic iMac 8,1
Have had a kernal panic issue with this machine since it was purchased. Apple has replaced the motherboard, HD, graphics card and display, run every hardware test imaginable, but the panics persist. Panics are now they are down to once or twice a week. The screen randomly either freezes or goes dark and requires powering off and restarting. A real pain to my productivity! Running OSX 10.8.2 with no periferals connected. Here is the latest panic report from this morning.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Uninstall or disable LogMeIn. Might also see if there's an update.
For this possible culprit kernel extension, it is not necessary to completely uninstall the parent program.
(Note: disabling a kext this way may not always work as it may refuse to cooperate, but this is usually effective. The worst that will happen is you'll get a message saying it won't work.)
You can temporarily uninstall any .kext, which may be causing the problem, by doing the following: Open Terminal in Applications>Utilties and copy/paste
sudo kextunload
Important, leave a space after kextunload
Next, navigate to the /System/Library/ and select Extensions. Inside that folder, find the related .kext in question, which you should drag into the Terminal window. (After dragging it in, the file will stay where it belongs in its original location.) This will automatically fill the Terminal window with the name and path to the file.
This is an example only of what the full command will then look like; it will not necessarily be found on your computer.
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/PaceSupportFamily.kext/
Hit return. If you have never used the sudo prefix before, you will get a warning, which you can disregard. Then enter your admin password, which you won't see on the screen as you type it in and hit return. Wait for the $ sign prompt to reappear, which will indicate the extension has been unloaded. Then just close the window.
This will have the effect of disabling the program. If it fails to be the source of the problem, to reload/enable it, substitute kextload for kextunload, using the above procedure.
Other than that, have a look at this article on resolving kernel panics. Faulty RAM is a frequent cause.

Kernal Panic - iMac G5 - 10.3
Hi,
On my iMac G5, running panther I get this
When using Apple Mail sometimes when I open it the screen goes fuzzy and after a minute or so a kernal panic occurs. When I reboot all my mail is set to unread!
Any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks a lot
TomWelcome To Discussions Hi Tom!
Is this OS X Kernel Panic, what is happening?
Exactly which model iMac G5 is it
Which version of OS X is installed?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
What peripherals do you have connected to the iMac?
Is there any consistency as to when it happens. For example, when you are using certain programs or applications?
Are there any programs or applications, that are set to load at Startup?
What happened shortly before this issue originated.
Did you make any changes, like upgrading the system, update or install any applications or programs, new hardware or peripherals, etc?
Have there been any unusual occurences, like freezes, crashes, power outages, etc?
Are you able to startup from the system install disc to run Repair Disk?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, on the Menubar at the top of the screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu for Panther, or Utilities for Tiger.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number. Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.
8.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
9.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
10.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
11.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.
Post the results.

Kernal Panic: iMac 2011: Please help.
Hi, everyone,
A few months ago, a friend's iMac started to crash during random events. Sometimes while on Facebook, sometimes while just surfing the Internet, and sometimes just word processing. I wrote about it in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19560212?ac_cid=op123456#19560212
He brought it to Apple Genius at Apple Store here in town. The Genius ran it through a series of hardware checks and a stress test and couldn't recreate the issue. His only advice was "to shut down once in a while."
Sure enough, the panics continued to happen, always for a different reason. I finally suggested to my friend after some tests from the above thread, to do a Erase and Install of the operating system. This seemed to have fix the issue, but sure enough, the panics resurfaced. Yesterday, the machine had four panics in one day. At this point, I think my friend should take it back to the Apple Store, speak with a Genius and ask them to review all these logs. Basically, making sure he doesn't leave the store until they agree to take a real look at the computer. At this point, he has 10 to 12 crash logs. Here is the latest one:
Any advice would be appreciated.

Mavericks + Reboot/kernal panics when Mini DVI to DVI adapter plugged in to 2008 iMac
Hi, i'm encountering a problem with my brothers iMac from 2008. We are attempting to add a 2560x1440p external monitor. When I first plugged in the cable, along with the Mini DVI/DVI adapter, the computer reboot, went to the grey screen, and then said "Your computer restarted because of an error, press any key to reboot" type message, then does it again. I tried plugging in just the adapter, and got no kernal panic, so it's only when info/power is transmitted through the cable.
I googled it extensively but couldn't find any solution nor even a hint of a solutiion. I suspect it might be the graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2400), but I don't know. A few years ago we connected a 720p TV using a MiniDVi/HDMI adapter, and it worked, but the resolution sucked and it was more of an experiment.
I should add we installed Mavericks yesterday if it makes any difference. I also asked the seller and and he confirmed the adapter was a DVI-D, which is what the external monitor requires. Here is the Problem Report given after removal of adapter and reboot. Thanks for any help.

24" iMac refurb - kernal panic after apple logo
I received a refurbished 24" C2D iMac on Friday and it seemed to be in perfect condition. Everything worked, and all of the updates were applied.
Upon returning to the office on Monday, there was a kernal panic when awakening it. It also consistently panics at the blue screen before "Loading Mac OS X..." and after the gray apple logo screen.
Starting in safe mode works fine. Starting from CD works fine.
I have wiped the drive and reloaded OS X 10.4.7, with no change, and have updated to 10.4.8 and all the latest updates (including airport 2007_002), with no change.
Apple Hardware Test from the install CD shows that everything checks out ok. The hard drive also passed all tests. I have tried each RAM module separately.
The panic.log file indicates that there may be an issue with the video card:
"invalid frame pointer" and
"Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependecies):
com.apple.GeForce(4.3.8)@0x2c0e6000"
Is there anything I can to single out the video card? Should I just put it back in the box and return it?First, I'd check this to see if the firmware is actually updated:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imacefifirmwareupdate11.html
If not, read the read-me information available. It may be that upon restart you didn't hold down the button long enough for the indicator light to start flashing, which is the beginning of the actual installation (separate matter from the download). Remember that AirPort is an application, and preferably should be turned off post-download, pre-installation, for installation to be trouble-free. -
After install of Mavericks, it looks like my system kernal panics and just sits there. I tried waiting over two nights. Tried reinstalling twice, booting ro the repair partition and repairs permissions/drive/verify , with no problems. Tried reseting PVRAM(or whateverit called). Recovery partition now has Mavericks as OS. Im running a iMac i3 27 inch circa 2011. Any ideas? Can still bootcamp into windows.
Thank youbhadotia wrote:Anyway's the file downloaded from dell to update the partition for Studio 1555 is corrupted (checksums don't match). My partition still doesn't boot. I'm working to fix this and will update my post when I'm done.
The file seems to create the CD/DVD/Image and USB just fine. So I used this only to create a CD image which I then wrote on a blank CD which seems to work fine. Also, I played around a bit and had some partial success in booting the partition. I've updated my original opening post with the new findings.
Whew!! what a waste of time! Never want to do all of this again .

IMac 2008 won't move past apple logo after kernal panics
HELP! My iMac has become quite the problem child. It's early 2008, and in 2011 the hard drive crashed...now I'm getting a stream of kernal panics. I thought it was insufficient memory so after I finally got it to boot up after a kernal panic - I cleared out a bunch of videos and freed up like 75% of my 500GB drive. SO I thought I was in the clear...then the screen saver came on and apparently that triggered something and it locked up. Did a reboot and got another panic. I've tried command + R to go into recovery mode and it won't get that far - not even sure if command + R will work on the early 2008. I am running Lion, not sure exactly what version since it won't power up.
My husband is ready to be done with apple altogether but I'm not ready to part yet. Anyone have any ideas?OH and I tried to run the Apple Protection CD and it just spits it out. The only thing I have plugged in is the power cord and the keyboard.

Boot up iMac Intel. Kernal Panic can't boot up computer??
I'm fixing my friend iMac Intel first generation Dual Core 32 bit.
Not the lastest one. Since I know more of him with macs.
My friend trip off the power cord of his imac by accident one morning and when
he put the cord back in to the imac to power up.
Is stuck on the loading screen apple logo with a kernal panic and can't get no where.
In the background there is text like in the terminal with saying Apple CPU Power Management Debugger.
How do I resolve this problemHi Frank
Reset the SMC exactly as described in the article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
It could be that the cord or surge protector was damaged, try using a different power cord and a different surge protector.

IMac Rebooting - Kernal Panic Problem
Hi, I am hoping somebody can shed some light on a situation that has been occuring with my iMac. I am running OS X 10.8.2 4GB RAM, 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. If there are any other details I can provide I will be happy to do so.
I get an involuntary (meaning the iMac just does this without warning) reboot, usually while running a video file which has become more persistent since it started a few months ago. I have re-installed my OS which hasn't helped. If anyone can give me an idea of what might be going on that would be great. Thanks in advance! Here are the details of the Kernal Panic:

I am removing LCC and Little Snitch. Are we doing this to see if I can get AHT to run or to see if it stops the kernel panics? Thanks for your help.
Also, on a side note. I have been browsing these (and other) forums for a while at times when I've needed to figure other problems out or out of curiosity. I don't ever remember seeing reports of these kernel panics before the release of Mouintain Lion. Now the forums seems to be littered with them. Is this something that is exclusive to or at least a lot more common when running Moutain Lion? Just curious. -
My iMac G5 is unpredictably experiencing a kernal panic. I can not resolve the problem. The Apple Genius guys on Chestnut SF tell me it's not a hardware problem, but I'm not sure. I re-installed Leopard. It still happens. Sometimes at login. Sometimes after sleep. Sometimes at random times. It's driving me nuts (particularly since I had a circuit board failure on my other G5 requiring a new purchase 2 months ago). So I'm batting 0 for 2 right now.
Here's the log. Any suggestions?

Regardless, if the Chestnut Geniuses are so confident it isn't a hardware issue, perhaps it's time to give the Stonestown or Union Square Geniuses a try. -
IMac experiencing kernal panic. What hardware could be at fault?
My 21 inch iMac running Snow leopard with a 1.83 Ghz processor is not functioning properly. I purchased the computer used from a local university and after a few months of running Leopard it displayed the gray kernal panic screen that says "you need to restart your computer". I wiped the hard drive and did a fresh instal of Leopard and upgraded to Snow Leopard. Computer ran fine for a month or so and is now malfunctioning again.
Symptoms are:
1. Programs crashing - spontaneous crashing during use or occasionally complete failure to open a program before it quits. Restarting the computer usually fixes this problem
2. Hardware (iSight camera and airport card) not recognized. Restarting the computer sometimes fixes this problem.
3. Boot failure - either sits at the screen with the apple logo and spinning wheel or gets stuck at the first blue screen.
4. Computer has not yet displayed a kernal panic screen since reinstalling the OS
Any ideas for what hardware/software might be at fault or a course of action to further diagnose the problem? Local IT department just gave me the run-around.Thanks everyone. Here is the most recent entry in the DiagnosticReports folder:

Mid2010 imac running Mavericks, reoccuring kernal panic
Can someone help me look into the problem? It's been troubling me for a while. Thanks a lot!
The kernal panic issue had been with my imac since before I updated to Mavericks. Things I tried:
1. Safe mode. Seems okay. Didn't manage to replicate kernal panic.
2. repaire disk permission and disk in recovery mode
3. reset NVRAM
4. Reseated RAM and also tried new RAM later
Mostly I used the imac to watch video. So almost all kernal panic happened during my watching video. Sometimes kernal panic happened again and again if I restarted imac right after a panic.
The diagnosis reports I got is like this:

Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

Why do I keep getting Kernal Panic warnings to restart my new iMac that is running Lion? This is happening as often as 2 times a week. Never happened with any of my other Apples or Macs and I have been using them since the 1980s.

Intel iMac, modem & Kernal Panics!?!
Any update on the Kernal panics when trying to use the external Apple modem with the new Intel iMac?
Hello,
I experience pretty much the same problems as you. my specs: IMAc G5, 1.8 MHz, 512 MB, 1.5 years old (but not first generation).
I had more memory, and airport extreme installed for all the time. since 2 weeks , things go crazy with exactly the same diagnostics as yours, which is a "kernel panic". This seems to be related with bad memory, incompatible third-party soft- or hardware. I would hate to pay so much money for a thing which is only 1.5 years old, thus i'm still looking whether i can locate the problem and solve it. It looks to me as if it is caused by some software settings, not failure of hardware. It occurs at startup or wake-up... but it is not reproducible.
if you found a remedy, please tell me.
thanks, Thomas
