Kernal panic using pro tools 8.0.1
Hello, I own a Power Mac G5 that was upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. I use it for Pro Tools with the most updated version for Power PC which is 8.0.1 Cannot update to a higher version since they are for Intel based processors. My issue is I keep getting Kernal Panic on a constant basis. Ive done a Disk Repair & it continues. I was told by Apple to simply reinstall all software from scratch using Leopard. Im hessitant since I would have to reinstall numerous programs & updates, thx.
Kernel panics are the result of failing hardware, corrupt system files or incompatible system files.
Troubleshooting is tedious at best, and the process of elimination is key.
Strip ALL third party items from your machine, internally and externally.
With only a wired USB mouse, wired USB keyboard and monitor (if it has a hub, disconnect all devices) does the machine run properly or do kernel panics occur?
If no panic, add one third party device and test, and so on......
IF a panic occurs, test the RAM with Rember or Memtest, and test the system with the Apple Hardware Test from your original software discs.
If errors occur, reseat RAM, graphics card and any PCI cards and retest.
If all tests are clean with no errors, reinstall all of your software, updating in increments, testing as you go.

How can I use Pro Tools with Fire Wire interface and Fire Wire external HD
If Mac Book Pro has only one Fire Wire jack and I want to use Pro Tools with an M Audio 1814 Firewire interface and an external Fire Wire HD how do I get around the fact that the Mac Book Pro has only one fire wire jack?
Pro Tools says that they DO NOT recommend using USB 2 Hard Drives as recording drives.
If I plug my External HD into the back of the 1814 it is way too slow to use, plus, I don't know why, Pro Tools is telling me that my External HD is "not a valid audio volume". It is a MAC OS Extended (Journaled) external Firewire HD (G-TECH G-DRIVE)

Message was edited by: MezclaYou could consider getting a firewire hub or get an expresscard 34 adapter with a firewire port.
I personally use a Belkin Expresscard adapter that gives me an extra firewire port as well as two extra USB 2.0 ports.
Good luck. -
I would like to share midi tracks with my friend who uses Pro Tools on a PC. Is this possible? How do we send each other tracks? Will we be able to make changes to the tracks and send them back?
It looks like it depends which G5, OS, & which Avid HW you have, but according to these sites, v6.9 to v7.4 maybe...

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping that someone can help me out with a kernel problem that I've been having on my late 2012 iMac.
Twice in the past week while doing some audio editing I've had a kernel panic. I've pasted the log at the bottom, but just for clarity, I have an iLok, Lacie little big disk, and a freeagent USB hard drive attached. There is also a focusrite interface hooked up through a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter.
I appreciate any help that is available here.
Thanks in advance!

FireWire Device: SAFFIRE_PRO_24, Focusrite, 400mbit_speedThe hostile iLok device and the accompanying PACE software are designed to cripple your computer so you can't do anything the software publisher doesn't want you to do, such as upgrading your operating system without also paying for a new version of Pro Tools.
One of the prices you pay for using the products of a hostile developer is system instability. In this case, there may be a conflict between PACE and the Saffire driver. I suggest you back up all data and uninstall both according to the developers' instructions. Reboot and see whether there's an improvement. If there is, reinstall one or the other and test again.
If you find that Pro Tools is causing the panics, the ideal solution is to get rid of it and use the products of a competitor that doesn't think it has the right to cripple your computer. If that's not an option, you'll have to live within the constraints that Digidesign imposes on you. Set up a machine as a dedicated Pro Tools workstation. Don't install any other software on that machine or use it for anything else. -
HT4718 after upgrading to Mavericks, i can't use Pro Tools ***
after upgrading to Mavericks, i can't use my pro tools, and none of my iTunes files are there. what the ****? I want to revert back to snow leopard.
PLEASE ADVISE!!!! I'm in a panic!!
I was very happy with Snow Leopard, and then I tried to get an app to design my Christmas cards. The computer told me, i had to upgrade to Mavericks to use it.
Now everything is a complete disaster!I was not prompted to make a clone, so i dont have one. I downloaded an upgrade of pro tools that is alleged to work with mavericks, but it does not.
I can't find any of my music files, iTunes downloads, documents, etc... But, all the software i purchased to work within pro tools is there. Im so confused.
Im PC, i have never downloaded an upgrade that made all my files disappear. This is totally unacceptable. -

It's the discrete GPU that causes the problems because it is defective. Using integrated graphics simply means you won't see the same graphics performance as you would normally see when the system would switch to the faster GPU. Don't try any high speed gaming. -
Using Pro Tools 6.8.1 on MacBook Pro. Please Help!
Hi,
I bought an 'M-Box 2' many years ago that came with Pro Tools LE 6.8.1. I recently have been wanting to use my M-Box 2 on my new computer. How should I go about getting the upgrades for this to work on my MacBook Pro? Should I install this old version (6.8.1) on my computer and then download the upgrade from Digidesign?
Thank you!i got it. I fixed it by setting Time Zone in automatically in both iphone and MBC
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
Enable "Set Automatically".
Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct.
do the same in the iphone and it will work -
Kernal panics using Unity Web Player in FireFox
Hi all,
We are developing a Unity Wep Player application and every now and again we get a kernal panic when running it in FireFox. It only happens on one of our older Macs. Its a Mac Book Pro 7.1. I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and could shed any light on the issue. I have logged the kernal panic details below.
Cheers,

com.apple.kec.corecrypto 1.0That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Kernal Panic MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
Hi Guys,
I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), and very frequently I have been having to shutdown my computer because of a system problem. When I restart I get this message. Is there any indication if this is a software problem or hardware? Thank you so much!!!!

Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are experiencing issues with your MacBook Pro unexpectedly restarting (kernel panic). The following resource provides information on Kernal Panics, as well as troubleshooting steps for recurring kernel panics:

Kernal panic macbook pro 2012, 10.8.5
Hello everyone
I have been browsing through the community about kernal panics, and it appears that the kernal log is used in diagnosing the problem, so I will paste the rmost recent one below. I have not done any recent updating or installation of new software. It has only happened three times 1@11/19 and 2@11/23. But since I'm not familiar with them I want to be on top of this.
I was running Firefox, Chrome and PhotoshopCS3 at time of crashes. Additionally, I've had a problem with my Time Machine back up drive diconnecting itself regularly. My hard drive was replaced by Apple under warranty this summer. The first 2 panic logs , line 6 read exactly the same and this one was different, and since I know ram may be a hardware issure with keran;l panics, I thought it noteworthy

Is it safe to download OS Maverick if I am wanting to use Pro Tools 10?
I have heard about issues with using the OS Maverick and not being able to run Pro Tools, but have not gotten a concrete answer.
Is Pro Tools 10 able to run properly on OS Maverick or should I stick with Mountain Lion until a patch comes out to fix the problem? It looks like ProTools 11.0.3 supports OS X Mavericks:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/troubleshooting/Mac-OS-10-9-support-for-Media -Composer-Pro-Tools-Sibelius
As for older or other versions, you'd need to check with Avid. -
Hi there,

Anyone use Pro Tools with OS 10.5 G4?
Is there a better music forum? First post -- just back to Mac... Thanks to all
The developers have forums here:
http://www.avid.com/US/support/find-support/category/forums
There are plenty of music folk (including me sometimes) who hang out around here in the GarageBand and Logic Pro forums (click the "Discussions" link in "Apple.com > Support > Discussions" above), but that's not going to be a lot of help with Pro Tools, I imagine. -
I've heard rumours that Pro Tools might run on Leopard even though it's not supported!
Has anyone tried it out or heard that it might work?ya.. it's a bit of racket: i had to buy 7.4 because I had LE7 and was told it wouldn't run on a universal binary system. but i'm gonna be abit PO'd if they make me purchase whatever upgrade they release for Leopard. Spoke to one of apple's certified testers and he said that digidesign is ALWAYS the last to get it together with appl's upgrades. the beta version of leopard was released to vendors 18 months ago. oh well... gotta make a living; can't risk a protools meltdown!

Logic 8 Export Audio to Video using Pro Tools HD hardware
Hello everyone,
I am having problems with the "Export Audio to Video" Function in Logic 8. Logic will go through the export process just fine, but when I open the export elsewhere with logic closed there is no audio. The video plays fine. I have read that this function was broken in logic 7, and doesn't work with intel based macs. BUT, I am using logic 8 with a Power PC. One thing that might have an effect on this is we are not using the standard core audio driver. We are using our digidesign HD Hardware(Sync I/O, two 192 I/O's) for recording and playback. I set this in the audio prefs by choosing DAE as our audio driver. Im guessing this has something to do with the audio not bouncing out, or bouncing out to some weird unknown location and I cant find it. we have figured out a work around, but its time consuming and not so accurate. if anyone has any ideas please let me know!!!!!!
thanks.......Well, I can't find it. I remember he said it was working fine under PT 7.3.1.
I assume it would work under Core Audio using the Digi hardware, just not the DAE or DTDM features. If you're new to Logic then the Core Audio will be enough to get you up and running.
Just from reading the manual the DTDM features don't seem to be any different than earlier versions. I was hoping for more surround support, but I guess I won't really know until I test it what is and is not possible. Currently I run ProTools on a MacPro and Logic on a G5 and link them with MTC, and I can always keep this approach if I find it's more flexible.
