Kernal Panic - Video related?
Hey everybody, I am running OSX 10.7.5 on my MB404LL Macbook. I've only owned the machine for a few weeks but I am getting a kernal panic once or twice a week when I open the computer from sleep. I ran the thorough Apple hardware test (took about an hour) which returned no errors. I have even ran a fresh install of Lion last week to see if the issue was from a previous time machine restore. Here's the crash log which mentions the graphics card driver:

Kernal panic (graphics related?) and laptop death
After 5.5 years, I had my first kernal panic this morning. My powerbook G4 12" now seems to only startup if an external monitor is connected to it. The "status indicator" light on the lid release on the front does not light up when the laptop is running, but does pulse when it is put into sleep mode. I was getting a kernal panic every time I removed the second display, but it finally kept working this time.
Anyone have any suggestions? Should I try to dig out my OS install disks? Kernal panic logic pasted below:

DapWelcome to the Apple discussions.
I would get out the original OS X disks that came with the system, and run the Apple hardware test. Kernel panics are usually, but not always, caused by hardware, with memory the leading cause. -
Kernal Panic (possible related to vram)
Hi.
Hope someone can help me with this - the last couple of days my PB 12" 1.5ghz has been acting up - giving me the ghosted screen with "please restart" in 4 languages aka kernel panics.
First i ran the hardware test and it came up with a Vram error "2NYD / 2 / 4: 2122" - anyone know what this means ?
The panic log shows the following :

Anyone got any ideas on what is wrong ? And how to fix it ?All your kernel panic log entries point to Airport. Could be a bad Airport card, a card that isn't properly seated or installed, or a problem with the installed Airport software. Nothing in the panic logs mention or point to VRAM.
If AHT reported an error then you will need to take the computer to an Apple service center for diagnosis and possible repair.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)
The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values. -
Kernal panic, possibly Bluetooth related?
I keep getting this kernal panic when my Macbook wakes from sleep. It always happens when I first wake it, and before the panic the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar is X'd out. Any idea what the problem might be, before I make the trip to the Apple Store?

MacBook Pro kernal panic caused by video card
I have a mid 2010 MBP running 10.8.4 since upgrading I have had several kernal panics. I think it is a screen redraw issue. I do have and external monitor but it also happens with it disconnected.

Can I get opinions and possible corrections?
ThanksHello Carroll,
I was researching what might be causing the issue you describe here and found a great article for isolating and troubleshooting Kernel Panics named OS X: About kernel panics found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3742.
For OS X Lion and earlier, follow these steps:
Press and hold the Power button for several seconds to turn off your Mac.
Turn on your Mac.
As soon as your Mac starts up, hold down the Shift key to start up with a Safe Boot into Safe Mode. Note: If you are using a third-party external keyboard and cannot start with a Safe Boot, try using an Apple keyboard instead.
If your Mac has another kernel panic starting up, or while in Safe Mode, go to the "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" section below.
If your Mac starts up without a kernel panic after a Safe Boot, restart by choosing Apple menu () > Restart…, then let it start up normally.
Important: If the Mac has another kernel panic within a few weeks, refer to the "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" section below.
Note: If the hardware and software on the Mac checks out as OK, yet recurring kernel panics still occur, it is possible that something on the network is sending the Mac malformed network packets. In these situations, check the devices on the network. Make sure the router's firmware is up-to-date, and that the router is functioning. Refer to the router's manufacturer for service and support.
If the Safe Boot does not resolve the issue then there is a section toward the bottom labeled Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic that I would recommend using to further isolate and troubleshoot the Kernel Panics.
All the best,

Kernal Panic Report: Magic Mouse? Help, please
hello, i am in need of some help understanding what is causing my mac to shut down. i thought i read somewhere that the first line in the kotex is what probably cause the kernal panic. here is the report. i was thinking is it this:
com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch 75.15
any help would be great. i have already performed a clean install to fix some other issues i was having with apps cause the system to crash and the finder freezing. what is weird, also, is avast and intego virus protectors have caused the system to crash. i deleted them and it got better. last night i tried to deleted all of the intego app/files using cleanbymac app uninstaller because the download did not come with an uninstaller. i dont think the uninstall was complete because i kept getting notification that netbarrierd and virusbarriern or d were still running. i could not even force quit them. i when in the apps packages and put it in the trash and uninstalled as much as i could. the crash report no longer says virusbarrier in the beginning. anyone have any ideas with this crash report. do i need a new driver for the magic mouse? i could not find an updage for it on apples site last night. last, i also read from apple that kernal panics are software related. i have already ran a thorough test on my hardware and it passed with flying colors. it was not the quick test either. it took an hour.
super thanks,
brian

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Kernal panic/wont boot :
Hello All,
I am experiencing a Kernal Panic problem out of nowhere.
The panic message comes up immediately when I turn the computer on and will not go past the message. It just gives my a panic code and then promps me to turn the computer off.
The computer will boot up fine in Safe Boot though. While in Safe Boot, I have repaired permissions in Disk Utility, as well as cancelled all programs that load at Boot Up.
My system is a Macbook Pro (Sandy Rose model) running Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6), In not running any 3rd party external connections. Only thing i have pluged to the MBP is the power cable.
I do have the log of the panic message/crash if anyone can decipher what it says and what I can do to resolve this it would be of great help!
Thanks:

I've had previous problem before with the video card, its acually a recall on my particular model's GForce card that Apple fixed but the problem came back.
Apple has a 90 day warranty on all repairs. If you are having the exact same issue that was previously repaired by Apple AND have the repair paperwork or your case number, you should call Customer Relations and tell them your predicament.
I don't have the disc that originally came with the Mac unfortunately.
Why not? You need them to troubleshoot. Replacement System Discs can be obtained from Apple's Customer Support - US (800) 767-2775 for a nominal fee. You'll need to have the model and serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html -
MacPro Randomly Restarts with Black Screen, Kernal Panic
Please help...
I have a Mac Pro 4,1 Early 2009 running OS10.9.5. In Feb'14 I installed a new graphics card, NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Mac. Lately, though, for about the past two months, my computer has suddenly restarted in the middle of a task. It restarts with a black screen. I'd then have to hard-restart my computer to bring my monitor back to life. When the Mac finishes starting up, I am greeted with what I understand to be a Kernal Panic report. This problem has been occurring more frequently now, which is prompting this post.
Typically, I've noticed that the restarting/crash would occur when I am doing video related things that seem to tax the system. So much so that my first thought was that my system was overheating? Yesterday, I observed that the crash occurred when playing video in a web browser, and it happened each time I tried transferring 30GB from a USB source to an external harddrive.
I performed a Hardware Test, short and extended, and everything came back as normal. I also uninstalled CUDA Drivers, but to no avail.
Then, I decided to remove the Quadro 4000 video card and put back in the original video card, a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120. My system has since been working well, as I was able to successfully transfer the 30GB that previously caused the system to crash.
So my question: Is my NVIDIA Quadro 4000 video card dead? Or, are the Kernal Panics a result of bad software, meaning I should reinstall the OS? What should I do next, as I need the Quadro card for it's cuda power in video editing?
Thanks for the help!
Here are some Kernal Panic reports from yesterday...

Once the hexadecimal Addresses are edited out, it is easier to see that the problem was related to the display card. NVRM is the NVIDIA Display RAM on the card. It appears to have failed. This is not an issue with the Driver, but with the card.
Replacing that card with an old one and having the symptoms disappear supports that evidence. -
Kernal panics and graphics issues
I have a 2008 MacBook Pro. Over the last few weeks I've been getting strange graphics issues. At first every other vertical line would go black and make the display unreadable. That happened occasionally for a few days then would snap out of it and go back to normal. The problem got worse, where the whole screen would shift colors, turning either a certain color like blue or green. Then it started to cycle through the colors and would flicker like a bad MTv music video from the 1980s. Eventually the display would always come back to normal, but I'm never sure for how long.
Lately I've received a few kernal panics, which I think are related to this issue. I've extracted the relevant logs below. My hunch is that my graphics card is going bad, but I've never had that happen on a computer before. Is this a known issue, is there anything I can do about it (replace / upgrade the card?)
Thanks.

Mini DVI to DVI monitor Kernal Panic
I have a 20" iMac Intel Core Duo, mini DVI to DVI-D adapter, cable, and Princeton 17" DVI-D monitor. When I hook up the monitor to the iMac I immediately receive a Kernal Panic. If I restart, it also results in a Kernal Panic. It does not matter if the monitor is on or off. No monitor, no Kernal Panic. The monitor does work with a VGA adapter on a mini mac and on a G4 PowerBook. I don't have a mini DVI to VGA adapter for the iMac, so have not tried that yet. But I'd much rather have it work with DVI. Any suggestions?
did you try running a repair disk, to see if it is software related?? you could also try pram reset. (apple-option-p-r at start up, and hold til you get two sets of chimes). you could also unplug power from power supply at back of mac mini and plug it back in after a few minutes. if none of these things worked, i would contact the manufacturer of the monitor.

24" iMac refurb - kernal panic after apple logo
I received a refurbished 24" C2D iMac on Friday and it seemed to be in perfect condition. Everything worked, and all of the updates were applied.
Upon returning to the office on Monday, there was a kernal panic when awakening it. It also consistently panics at the blue screen before "Loading Mac OS X..." and after the gray apple logo screen.
Starting in safe mode works fine. Starting from CD works fine.
I have wiped the drive and reloaded OS X 10.4.7, with no change, and have updated to 10.4.8 and all the latest updates (including airport 2007_002), with no change.
Apple Hardware Test from the install CD shows that everything checks out ok. The hard drive also passed all tests. I have tried each RAM module separately.
The panic.log file indicates that there may be an issue with the video card:
"invalid frame pointer" and
"Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependecies):
com.apple.GeForce(4.3.8)@0x2c0e6000"
Is there anything I can to single out the video card? Should I just put it back in the box and return it?First, I'd check this to see if the firmware is actually updated:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imacefifirmwareupdate11.html
If not, read the read-me information available. It may be that upon restart you didn't hold down the button long enough for the indicator light to start flashing, which is the beginning of the actual installation (separate matter from the download). Remember that AirPort is an application, and preferably should be turned off post-download, pre-installation, for installation to be trouble-free. -
Can anyone help me interpret this kernal panic report? My iMac has been freezing up and shutting down on me lately.
Thank you.

Second Kernal Panic in 2 days: Snow Leopard 10.6.8-Macbook Pro
Hi,
I have just had my second kernal panic in 2 days. Both times I was just surfing the web using firefox with a few tabs open. The panics happened after a day or so of the Huawei dongle I use to connect to the internet falling into a glass of water (dried out completely before using again), so I am wondering (hoping) if that may be the cause.
I am using an early 2011 Macbook Pro. The only times I have had problems in the past was when trying to use Paragon to delete trash via HTFS external HDs, and ditched trying to use that particualr driver a long time ago.
Here is the log:

Kernal Panic with OS 10.4.6 install
Repeated attempts to install OS 10.4.6 over 10.2.8 each time resulted in kernal panic. Despite restarting from outboard Firewire HD and using Disk Repair to correct permissions and repair the Macintosh HD, no joy followed. TechTool Deluxe 3.0.3 reported no HD problems. Taking the CPU to the MAC Store resulted in a successful install by the technician who repaired permissions and severe directory damage. Happily, I reconnected all previous cables at home, started up the MAC, and immediately noted the return of kernal panic or, finally, the MAC Blue Screen of Death. Disconnecting the SCSI cable (connected to Adaptec SCSI Card 2906) from an Iomega Zip Drive resolved the problem. I should have known that the SCSI device could be the cause of this problem, but I missed seeing the other reports in the Installation & Setup section when searching the terms “kernal panic.”
Entering “SCSI” as a search term does produce numerous messages regarding incompatibility problems, such as this long chain, “No luck getting Adaptec 2906 SCSI card to work.”
PowerMac 867 MHz Mac OS X (10.4.6) RAM: 256MH then >> 768 MH nowJ.Michael:
Kernel panics are usually hardware based. If you have recently installed RAM or a peripheral your problem may be related to that piece of hardware.
Check out Dr. Smoke's Resolving Kernel Panics and see if there are any clues for you in it.
Good luck.
cornelius -
I get a lot of gray screens of death on my MacBook Pro ever since I went to OS 10.8. Never had issues with the 10.6 versions and now miss those days. The kernal panics seem to occur most frequently just waking it up from sleep, regardless of where i am or what is attached to it. I can't help but wonder if it is a problem with the video drivers under 10.8.x.
I get these daily, so here is the log that gets sent to Apple, but I'm not really sure anyone looks at them. Perhaps they would if other people experienced the problem too, but perhaps I'm in the vast minority.

If so, or even if they don't, you should take your MBP into an Apple Store or Apple Certified Service center along with a printout of that article. They will test it to see if it is that problem and replace the logic board for free up to three years from date of purchase. That time is likely close or already passed.
