Kernal Panics when booting Install DVD on new MacBook Pro

First off, let me say that I know that Apple does not officially support OS X Server on their portable machines.
With that out of the way, I have been trying to install Server (the Universal Edition, of course) on the new Santa Rosa MBP that I got last weekend. The Installer DVD will kernal panic when trying to start up the machine. So I took it to my job, where we have a Mac Mini with a Core Solo processor. The Install DVD for 10.4 server boots the mini up just fine. So I put the MBP into target disk mode, and installed server on a partion I had made on the internet MBP disk when I first got it. So the installer has 10.4.7 on it, which I thought might be causing the problem. So with the Mini booted off the MBP partion, I updated the Server install to 10.4.10 and all the other updates. I then restarted the MBP, held down the option key, selected the server partion to boot up from, and the machine still kernal paniced while still booting up (It never gets past the gray Apple Screen with the spinning wheel.
Now I had hoped that the firmware update released today might help with the problem, but when I try to run that installer, it says that the firmware is not needed on my laptop. So I guess they had already installed it at the factory, even though it was not yet publicly availible.
I have looked at the kernal panic logs on the non server version of 10.4 that the machine boots after the kernal panic (when I boot back into server, using the Mini as the boot machine, there is no kernal panic logs), and I have always found the same thing, it looks like something to do with the video driver is causng the problem. The first item that is always in the backtrace is:
com.apple.NVDAResman(4.5.6)@0x500c4000
So I guess I am just wondering if anyone else out there, with a new SR MBP, has has similar problems trying to run server on their new machines?

The method you must use is outlined here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302960
Best of luck.

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

  • HT4796 Can Windows 7 be installed on my new MacBook Pro, through my network connection?  The disc would be in my Windows desktop.

Can Windows 7 be installed on my new MacBook Pro, through my network connection?  The disc would be in my Windows desktop.

I wouldn't recommend installing through a network connection.
    For a Virtual Machine:
If you have the Win 7 media (DVD), use an app like PowerISO or MagicISO to make an ISO file of the install disc and use that.
    For BootCamp:
Use the original install media and BootCamp Assistant, to install from your DVD Drive.

Where can I download a macbook pro install dvd for my Macbook pro 2.2 because i lost mine...

I don't think you can actually download the install DVD. If you call Apple they can send you the install DVD for a nominal fee +S&H. You will need to provide them with the serial number for your Mac to see if it's registered to you.

I lost my  install dvd for my Macbook pro 17" 2.53 i5. How can I get that?

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee.
You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html  Another resource:  International Support Phone #s.

  • Adobe CS4 Indesign plugins missing when installed on brand new MacBook Pro. How can I get these missing plugins? Indd. files will not open

    Please Help!
Adobe Chat doesnt deal with old products
Apple Genius Bar says to talk to Adobe.
HAD a 2008 MacBook Pro with Adobe CS4 installed
now have a brand new MacBook Pro (and used my time machine to back up from my old mac) and when trying to open InDesign files - gives a list of plugins that are missing and will not open the document.
I'm a graphic designer- so this is not an option..
    Please Help!

You can install Adobe Programs ONLY from the originals installer which is provided from Adobe. Time Machine (which is a form of migration) will not result in working Adobe programs. As Bob said, use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, which is also working for CS versions, to wipe out everything from Adobe and start with a clean installing.
I am not sure, if CS4 is running on Maverick, at least it is not supported officially, your are here alone. It might be so that you have to upgrade your software to a later version.

  • Trying to install PS4 on new MacBook Pro. I have already installed PS 3 extended.  When PS4 asked for my PS3  serial number will not accept # on back of my PS3 case?

I have PS3 and PS4 installed on Mac 27", but when I try to install PS4 on my new MacBook Pro will not accept Serial # on my PS3 Extended case.  Even though I have PS3 Extended installed!!  Tried Serial # with and without dash, but neither works.  Had both installed also on my MacBook Air OK but I wiped intend installed new OS.  Not clear why PS4 not accept PS3 Serial # despite the fact that PS3 Extended already installed with the correct Serial #.

Photoshop 3 and Photoshop 4 for the Mac were released in the 1990s before Mac OSX and will only run natively on the Classic Mac OS (OS 9.x or older). They may run under emulation in "Classic Mode" on a PPC Mac up until OSX 10.4. They will not run on any Mac with an Intel processor nor with OSX 10.5 or newer. Same with Photoshop 5 and Photoshop 6.
Photoshop 7 came with both Classic and OSX versions, but will only run on a PPC-based Mac, or an Intel Mac up to OSX 10.6.x with the Rosetta emulator
    Now, to clarify the naming of versions;
    Photoshop CS = "Photoshop 8.x"
    Photoshop CS2 = "Photoshop 9.x"
PS CS and CS2 came as OSX versions only and will only run on a PPC-based Mac, or an Intel Mac up to OSX 10.6.x with the Rosetta emulator
    Photoshop CS3 = "Photoshop 10.x"
    Photoshop CS4 = "Photoshop 11.x"
PS CS3 and CS3 came as OSX versions but run on either a PPC-based Mac up to OSX10.6.x with the Rosetta emulator or an Intel-based Mac, at least up to Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.x (the latest I have tried personally)
As for upgrades, you can go back about (3) revisions to use the old SN for an install; e.g. a PS 7 SN can be upgraded to PS CS3 (10.x) but not to PS CS4 (11.x). So, there is no way PS 3 could be upgraded directly to PS CS4 (11.x)

  • Can't do a fresh install on my new MacBook Pro

I just got a new MacBook Pro and after setting it up, transferring no files, I decide that I actually would have liked to restore Leopard from my Time Machine back up. I try to do this via the Migration Assistant, but it's not working properly and it's taking up way more space on my HD than it should.
So I decide to try and reinstall Leopard and start over. Only I can't. When I insert the Leopard installation DVD and double click on "Install Leopard", it restarts, but it's just stuck on a grey screen. If I hold down alt while booting I'm asked to choice between my Macintosh HD and the installation DVD, but when I choose the DVD, it starts spinning, but stops after a while and the computer is frozen. I can't delete what's on my HD from Disk Utility either.
How do I get rid of what's on my HD and get a chance to install a fresh Leopard?
This is driving me crazy, hope you can help me!
    Thanks

Thanks a lot both. The thing was that I couldn't find any DVDs that belonged to my new computer, so I just used my old Leopard DVD thinking that it didn't matter which one I used anyway. When you said it did
matter, however, I looked a little closer and found two DVDs in my new computer's box. I'm doing a clean installation as we speak.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Can't create boot camp partition on new macbook pro

Hi all. Having an odd issue installing boot camp on my 2011 Macbook Pro. When I try and create a partition it gives me the following error message:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved."
It goes on to tell me that I need to reformat my drive and try again. Seems a little extreme and even worse, I'm wondering if this will work considering that I still have over 600GB of free space available on my drive. Thought I'd post here and see if anyone has had a similar issue before harassing support.

If you look at the pdf guide in Boot Camp Assistant, step one is to backup. Common sense before altering, installing new OS, and should be required of anyone even if just updating Mac OS.
Now, having fragmented space: Apple never considers defragging free space and says Mac OS X defrags some files, and that having more than 25% free should not impact Mac OS performance.
So I think that covers Apple support for their own OS.
When you install updates, applications and such, the patches are compressed, expanded, space is fragmented, and some vendors often choose to write their updates to the far end of the drive in order to leave high access for other portions.
the best and perhaps only way to move files is to boot from another hard drive, rather than pick yourself up by your own bootstraps and try to shuffle files.
I would never recommend using only built in tools. I don't advise Apple DU First Aid as the sole utility for maintenance and repairs for Mac HFS file system. nor would I use TimeMachine alone. They are free and there and better than nothing.
Create a bootable backup clone of Mac OS for one.
    Repair your internal drive.
Try using Boot Camp Assistant; or iDefrag; or Paragon CampTune (yes, it can be used to install Windows partition as well as resize partitions now or later if needed). Does a better job.
The use of x86 Intel cpus opened up new possibilities. Some unintended or not foreseen I guess too. A competition challenge to see who could install Windows on a Mac first and easiest took place in 2006. Apple came in later with their beta. but Boot Camp Assistant has always been a weak, lame, partitioning tool.
Macs and users using gparted and other tools? and try to stop the hand-holding concept? unlikely.
A better tool? there should be, and not only that, it really needs to just be rolled into Disk utilty as one more feature and tab along with other tools - so integrated and if you want to create, resize, remove an MBR slice and Windows partition, you can.
Paragon lets you create a partition, and also they have their own NTFS driver so you don't need to format BOOTCAMP (MSDOS/FAT32) during the install phase later.
Of course installing Windows in a VM doesn't have all the trouble of dual boot native install and given RAM and processor resources, can be more than functional enough for many.
With Windows 7 you can install and have a Windows-only computer, remove all traces of Mac OS (and boot OS X off 2nd drive, either with two SSD + hard drive or eSATA or Intel 'Bolt' interface as well as FW800.

  • When should I purchase a new Macbook Pro?

I bought my current regular Macbook in March 2008.
The current specs on it is follows:
    2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
80GB Storage (32 GB free currently)
The only problems I have with it: I have a small crack on the side where the apple logo is. I covered it up, no other issues with it. Also, I have had issues with the spinning wheel when I run Safari, but I now just use Google Chrome and no issues! I run Onyx about once a week to get it cleaned and verify/repair permissions.
It still runs fine. Not as fast as when I first got it, probably because I only have about 32GB of storage left. I am just wondering when I should purchase a Macbook Pro? I am not too familiar with my current Macbook life expectancy.
    Thank you!
p.s. My Applecare warranty has been up for 2 months

That is entirely dependent on your usage and needs. Friends who only use their laptops for email, Web, etc. are known to keep their Mac laptops for up to seven years, because you don't need much performance to do those things.
I use mine for graphics, so after a few years it can't keep up with the newest application upgrades. Therefore I replace mine sooner. But I still tend to keep mine for 3 to 5 years. My current MacBook Pro is the same age as yours. It is in excellent shape, and for my purposes the speed is still very good, so I will not spend money on a new MacBook Pro now. I installed a bigger faster hard drive (only $70), upgraded the RAM a while ago, and bought a new battery, because I think this machine still has another 1 to 2 years left in it.
On the other hand, if your job depended on the fast processing of HD video or raw photo files, you should upgrade to a Core i7 MacBook Pro right now. For those jobs, a new Mac might not last 2 years.

  • How do I install on my new macbook pro retina without a cd drive?

I got Photoshop Elements 10 for Christmas and now I just finally got my new Macbook Pro retina that doesn't have a cd/dvd drive so now I don't know how to install it?? Help please!!

Either Copy the content of the DVD on a USB drive and then install or Download the trial from Adobe.com website and use the serial number on the Box to serialize it.

  • LP8 won't install on my new macbook pro (ver 10.8.4).

I purchased LP8 a couple years ago, installed it on my desktop, then purchased and installed the upgrade to LP9 when that came out. (My desktop is the only computer that I've installed LP on).
I just bought a new Macbook Pro running OS X (ver. 10.8.4), however, when I tried installing LP8, the macbook wouldn't install b/c the program was too old and is therefore incompatible.
I don't have to purchase an entire new set of LP in order to get it on my new laptop, do I? I still have plenty of those LP ugrade coupons left, so I don't want to re-purchase the DAW.
    Thanks...

Sorry, but when Logic Pro 8 was released (2007) 10.5 was the most current OS X version. We are now at 10.8 and that OS doesn't support some of the old applications anymore. 6 years have passed since.

  • Can't install CS4 on new MacBook Pro

I'm trying to install CS4 on a brand-new MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.3. The Setup doesn't even start. I get an error message: "Setup cannot be opened because of a problem." It says that Setup won't work with this version of Mac OS X.
In the Terminal details, there is the following error:
    Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/asneu.framework/Versions/A/asneu
    Referenced from: Users/...
    Reason: image not found
I get the same error whether I double-click on the Setup.app or do Open Package Contents > Contents > MacOS > Setup.exe.
I have researched this error and found that other people have had the issue when the setup process is 90% through, but I can't even get mine to start. I've tried using the CleanScript app from Adobe, but since I don't have another version of Creative Suite on this brand-spankin-new computer, there's nothing to clean or uninstall. I've also tried creating another admin login to install from that, but to no avail.
    Any help out there?

the error says library not found. Somehow the install program does not execute properly. It might be a problem of the disc. If you have a second computer or an external Drive try to install from there and see if the same error occurs. If it does, then it must be the CDs. If not then we have to investigate further.
