Hi,
If your USB internet stick has a micro SD in it, try the USB internet stick without it and check whether stability improves.   The Panic report  indicates a loading of a filesystem extension just before the panic.

  • Unresolved kernal trap

My eMac had been running well and doing as it should. Within the past few weeks it has started to freeze up with the screen shadowed and a message appearing in the center saying "Your computer needs to be restarted. Hold down the power button for a few seconds or press restart."
When I restart it asks if I want to send a report, which I always do. The report begins with the words "Unresolved kernal trap" followed by code. Once in a while it alters and begins with the word "Panic" followed by code.
It seems to be doing it more and more, now two or three times a day. It sometimes happens when I am in the middle of something and it gets very irritating.
Any suggestions as to what's causing it would be appreciated.

In addition to checking your eMac serial number against those in eMac Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues, see if the eMac's logs give any clues whether the problem might be with some third-party background process: Refer to What’s a kernel panic? for info on where to find the logs. Since eMacs running 10.5 are fairly rare, if you need help interpreting the logs, you can post excerpts from the logs in the Leopard forums to reach a large knowledgeable audience.

  • Kernal trap crash with sleep mode

    Hi,
After installing the newest OSX my mac crashes randomly when being opened after having been on sleep mode for some time.
Here's the problem report - can someone please explain to me what the problem is and how to fix it, thanks!
I find it strange that it doesn't crash everytime... a kernal trap is a kernal trap, right (whatever a kernal trap might be, anyway)!?
    Help is greatly appreciated!

OK, I'll try that. I'll disconnect the soundcard and try putting it to sleep and wakening it again.
It's getting late in Denmark and I have to get up early to go to work. My next post will be around the same time tomorrow.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Unresolved Kernal Trap OSX 10.4.11...HELP!

The Mac Pro I've been using in the studio keeps having a kernal panic and shutting down to the black screen where I must hold down the power button to restart. Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc (the AHT is on the Install/Restore DVD that came with your Mac)? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

  • Unresolved kernal trap - can anyone decipher?

Following is the info after a forced restart. I don't know how to interpret this but am looking for advice from anyone that can. I suspect bad RAM although it checks out ok. I get numerous cursor hangs and occassional white on black text overlayed on screen (kernal panics?) many times while the machine is basically idle as ws the case in the example below. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

    my comments to Apple:
Had a VNC connection going to a local iMac running 10.4.8 (17" G4 USB 2.0)
Had actually stepped away for supper and the PB was not really doing anything other than idling. When I came back to it, found the restart message.
I also have random hangs and occassional white on black screen overwrites with errors requiring restart.
    Suspect bad RAM?

One week now with the Samsung RAM - no cursor freezes or kernal panics, and like others have indicated, the unit is running somewhat cooler as noted by temperature monitor.

  • Unresolved Kernal Trap-Hardware or Software issue?!?!

I could really use some advice here. My PowerBook G4 is driving me crazy. For the past 8 months, it has these "fits" where I either get the Grey Screen of Death or the kernel panic messages all down the left side of the screen.
I've reloaded my OS three times and the issue seems to go away for a while, and then one day it goes off again.
    Noticeable situations:
Computer is cold (it's in my office in the basement) after sitting all day... it's been asleep... I open the screen and boom... crash.
Airport is trying to reconnect with my local network after the computer has been sleeping for a while. (Where I've left the screen up but used the "sleep" command.)
    Attempts to resolve:
After trying everything under the sun I know of, I thought there might be a RAM issue after reading some posts here in the discussion forum. I ran Apple Hardware Tester to find there was an issue with one of my RAM chips which upon further research suggested that it might not be seated all the way (hence the intermittent crash). So I opened up my PowerBook, switched the RAM chips around and that seemed to solve the issue (for a while). Oh, and the RAM passed all AHT tests afterward.
    Question:
Is it possible that the heating/cooling cycle over the years has caused the RAM sockets to become "unstable"? Things seem to work pretty reliably when the computer is warmed up.
Here is the report from my last crash:

    Good post.
    Things to try;
    1) disconnect all third part hardware and try the sleep function
    2) reset the power manager
    3) use terminal and type in reset-vram
    reset-all
    4) what I suspect, where did you buy the ram? remove any third party ram and just use what came with the powerbook
    5) the hardware test is not going to tell you if the ram is not compatible, it can make mistakes and say its ok when if fact it is not. Although more or less if it does say its a problem then it is a problem but just don't rely on its final word.

That doesn't look like the entire kernel panic log, but I agree with OGELTHORPE in that you should delete the parallels.virtualsound startup item. It look as if you had Parallels Desktop installed at one time, but - somehow - tried to delete all of it, but didn't succeed.
That's not the current version of the Parallels virtual sound kext, anyway.

  • G4 kernal panic... now nothing!?....

I have a G4 that was running 10.5 at the time. My wife started it up and she got the usual kernal panic that gives the power button on the screen at start up and says to reboot. She did so and got the same message. I tried a couple times but still couldn't get it to reboot. I tried zapping the PRAM, unpluggining it over night, wouldn't start up even under safe boot, when i tried to do fsck on it it got about halfway through the dos looking text and then froze up, I even tried disk warrior and it said that my directory is too far gone to be fixed. I then tried reinstalling the software and it took me forever to get it to do it without crashing... finally I had it reinstalled and i started it up and fixed my wife's email etc...... and I shut it down. The next day.... kernal panic again... I still can't do any of the checks... and it is driving me crazy....
    Any ideas?!?!?!
    Marc

    Tried the ram.... still panicking
Put a new PRAM battery in.... still panicking
This is what I got the second time trying to restart if anyone knows code....

I have no clue what all that means except my Firewire is working, which nothing was connected to it, lol
The only thing connected to the computer at the time was the monitor.... no keypboard, internet or printer.... nothing but the monitor.

    Hello,
During the installation of the update containing 10.9.3, iTunes 11.2, and Digital Camera Raw Update 5.05 I received a problem report listing a kernal trap.
The installation process took a very long time but finally it did restart and the Problem report came up. 10.9.3 is on the computer and so far it is behaving normally. I don't know the significanse of the report. Is there something I should do? The report follows: Thanks! Mot

About a half hour Kyle, and then it restarted on its own, and I got the "kernal trap" message. So far no problems that I can detect. Wait until someone with a bit more knowledge looks at this thread and gives you a recommendation.

  • Unresolved Kernel trap

For the last several months I've been experiencing the Kernal trap when starting up. This doesn't happen every time. I have Disk Warrior but don't know if that would help correct the problem. However, when I start up in DW, using the "option" or "C" key, I experience the Kernal trap so I can't run the DW utility.
I have seen many posts on this subject, but I haven't found a step by step approach to possibly correcting the problem. Can someone lead me through this or guide me to the post that would explain the best approach. Thanks!

If you are referring to Kernel Panics, they are often cause by faulty RAM. Try swapping out your RAM, and use Rember to check it.
Dr Smoke's Resolving Kernel Panics has some good in formnation as well.

  • Unresolved Kernel Trap - can't restart after reinstalling OS

hi, i just zeroed out one partition on my G5 after backing up the files to another partition. i wanted to reinstall a clean OS. i wasn't able to install from the CD in the G5 - kept getting a weird broken apple logo and the computer fan would start to rev. - so i reinstalled from the original discs but had to do so from my iMac G5 with the G5 connected as a FW drive. here the install went fine and i was even able to boot from the newly installed OS as well as the backuped up system from my iMac G5.
however the problem starts when i disconnect the G5 and reboot it. the OS starts to load, i see the apple logo but then a dark grey screen descends and i am told i must restart the computer. the text on the screen says "Unresolved Kernal Trap (cpu 0)" followed by more info that i don't understand.
i can't seem to boot. i checked the prermissions by hooking back up in FW mode to the iMac and apparently there were some issues which disc utility resolved. still i can't restart the G5.
the hardware configuration i have is identical to what i had when the unit arrived a year ago.
can anyone please offer me a solution?
    thx

Hello I am having a very similar problem. I am running a G5 with two drives.I haven't used the drive the computer came with as I transferred the drive from an older g5 into the #2 slot and have been working from that.(OSX Tiger upgraded from Panther)
I purchased some new software so decided to do a clean install on the newer drive (Purchased with OSX Tiger installed.)
I cannot find my original install CD's which came with the machine(I know I'm an idiot) so I tried the install from my Tiger CD.Every time I tried to restart with the CD I got the unresolved Kernel disaster described above.Luckily I managed to boot up the computer on the old drive by resetting the PRAM as I started up.
I called the local Apple shop and he advised creating a disc image of the CD and from that navigating to System/installation/packages/OSinstall.mpkg and installing from there. I had a little trouble figuring out how to create a disc image from the CD so navigated to the above installer within the CD itself, opened the installer which then proceeded to successfully install the OS on the erased drive."I'm saved" I yell! BUT when I try to boot up the newly installed OS I get the same unresolved kernel thingo.
But wait there's more, now I can't boot up at all,not even using the PRAM trick.
Remember I don't have the Discs that came with the machine to boot up with.
    Am I totally screwed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers
    Brandon

  • Kernal panic upon waking

Hello Apple pros! My iBook G3 running 10.4.8 works flawlessly as long as I don't put it to sleep. If it sleeps, say overnight, I get a kernal panic as soon as I open the lid. I have to restart by holding the power button down. It restarts fine. I have tried MacJanitor, Cocktail, Techtool Deluxe, Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, re-install the OS from the original disk. There are no peripherals attached to the machine. Disk Warrior told me the first time that I ran it that my original directory was too damaged to replace with a new one. I ran it again and it created a new directory that I was able to use as a replacement. This started all of a sudden for no apparent reason and it doesn't do it all of the time. I updated to Tiger back in July with no problems. I am only using 70% of my disk space and I have 640 mb of ram. The logs all start off with "unresolved kernal trap(cpu 0): 0x300 - data access DAR=..." Should I head off to the Genius Bar or can I resolve this issue myself? Is this a hardware or software issue?
iBook G3 14 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   MacBook Intel core duo

Have you tried resetting the PMU? The PMU (Power Management Unit) has control over sleep issues, so resetting it may help.
If that doesn't help (and it may not), try removing the extra RAM, and see if that stops the kernel panics. RAM which has failed is one of the most common causes of kernel panics. If RAM turns out to be the problem, many vendors have a lifetime warranty on RAM.

  • Trap error on new MBP

I've bought a new 17" MacBook Pro (lucky me) and used the migration tool to move my apps and user directory from my old MBP. I then updated the software so that everything is now current. I have a problem with daily kernal traps, always as safari is reloading a page. Of course I didn't get this error before. I notice that I have a string of incorrect Java permissions that Disc Utility won't fix, even from the install disc. I'm currently using Chrome to try to isolate the problem to Safari. To be sure I'll also try using safari from another user account to see if it's confined to preferences on my user account
    If the trap doesn't recur:
should I uninstall and reinstall Safari? If so how do I completely uninstall it?
    What else should I do?

If you didn't follow the steps in Best Practices and Setup new Mac, then consider starting over. As for the permissions stuff, see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12685330#12685330

  • 2007 Mac Pro will not boot, even in safe mode

    Hello,
I have a Mac Pro purchased in 2007 that had been working well up until a few months ago.  I had trouble with Microsoft Word 2008 repeatedly crashing; I repaired the hard disk and moved up to Word 2011, and the problem seemed to resolve.
Yesterday, the machine crashed, and I am not able to start it up, even in safe mode.  I have tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM, removed and cleaned the graphics card (NVIDIA 7300 GT), and removed the 3rd party RAM I installed at least 2 years ago.
When booting to the internal hard drive, the Apple logo will show, then a blue screen followed by a gray screen with a frozen cursor.  When I boot to an external hard drive or the OSX Leopard install DVD, the screen flickers like below:
When I tried to boot in safe mode while holding shift + command + V, the safe boot froze after reading:
panic (cpu 2 caller 0x2abf6a): kernal trap at 0x0029a4bc, type 14= page fault, registries:
[4 lines of 2-3 letter acronyms and numbers]
    Error code: 0x00000000
I am thinking of buying a new graphics card (ATI Radeon 5700), but I want to be sure (as much as possible) that will solve the problem I am having.  Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Cheryl

    replace the system drive
    always clone your system
yes dump the 7300 if you plan to keep using it and use Lion
A clean install would be nice start, on say 120GB SSD or something too
And 2x2GB FBDIMM set is $30 if you need a set
AHT is on your OEM DVD from 20007
dust, temps and air flow is also important

  • Cannot boot computer past apple logo, text is displayed saying aDebugger called panic ?

    Hello
I have been having issues booting up an iMac computer, it doesn't get past the apple logo before prodcuing text and a greyed out screen that refers to 'Panics', 'double Panics', kernal traps, deBuggers?
Not sure where to even begin really.
It does the same when I try to boot in safe mode.
Any ideas, can some one show me where to begin?
    cheers
    Matthew Trott

Post the last KP report. Step one is to boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). Also,  See
